  1. This is kinda going to be a before and after place for me to post pics of the rifle. (Here ya go Caster) I bought a cheap, bubba'd arisaka type 99 and I have a few areas I am unsure of. The rifle itself is the 25.5" model. Any ideas what length cleaning rod I will need? The rifle is a Nagoya Arsenal rifle, with a serial ending in 950. I think it's a 5th gen. The mum is in tact and looks great. I would appreciate if anyone knows whether or not my rifle would have had the anti aircraft sights and monopod, pure novelties. The bolt smelled horrible ha, and I found that the firing pin is broke. I placed a bid for one on ebay. The rear sight is what stumps me. There is no ladder for the adjustable sliding peep sight, all that is there is a peep and then the v-notch....I suspect someone removed the ladder but I could be wrong. I also placed a bid on a stock on ebay, as the previous bubba'd stock is not to my liking. I want to add that the front sight is supposed to be pinned onto the barrel, and I think I can faintly see the circular shading of something on both sides, but it's perfectly smooth when you rub your hand across it.

  3. Garufa and I were just talking about this yesterday. I can see using stripper clips in fixed magwell guns like SKS, Garand, whatever. If they're already on them, makes sense in AR/AK, too. But can't see any gain in utility reloading them for mag fed guns unless you were having to do mag reloads under fire. Then again, high stress ain't real conducive to getting that guide spoon out and into place either, would seem to me. Seems to take me just as long to load the clips then load the mags as to just load the mags, but then I'm a mag freak and generally show up at range with all I'm gonna shoot already loaded up, so I don't need to save time just at that one venue either. - OS

  4. Because I've never been in such a situation, my opinion is nothing more than speculation. But I'd be willing to bet that serving 3-5 tours in a s*** hole where the enemy is trying to kill you every day is more likely to cause someone to "break" than a concussion. I think the fact that our troop aren't doing this type of thing more often is a true testament to just how mentally strong our men and women truly are. Although it's difficult to justify such actions, I can't help but feel sorry for this guy. I've never had to walk a single footstep in his boots, so I can't honestly say that I'd be able to handle the stress any better. This is especially true when it appears our government is doing a real s****y job at ensuring our servicemen and servicewomen are properly care for in terms of their psychological well-being.

  5. As a 30 year retired Marine (MGySgt E-9) I think everybody is making something out of nothing here. I am not about to question the judgement of a General grade combat commander. I don't the security issues he was facing nor the political environment at the time. I also don't get paid to make the decision. The general was in charge and it was his decision, I don't know enough about the place nor the time to say he was wrong.

  7. If you want to see more pix of SRM/Enlan/Navy/Ganzo, just look at the Chinese eBay vendors, even if you don't buy there ... many of them have excellent detailed pix. - OS

  8. Here's my idea, just make it voluntary for any Marine who wants to hear Pinheada's or any other of Obama's administration cronies speeches. I believe that if I had some spare time I would rather spend it doing countless other things than listening to some political pep rally. He wont be scared of them if they aren't there, of course it might be a little embarrassing to him to grand stand in front of only a few token brass.

  9. I would prefer that the Federal gov't stay out of it. If they can get a foothold saying it is okay, they can someday try to say carry is not ok. Lets the states decide it.

  10. Disarming the military in a combat zone. Brilliant! If he's that worried, stay home. There is a war with unfriendlies going on here, BTW.

  11. Would they have had to disarm for a visit from Rumsfeld?
    1 point
  12. That's a fact. And the fact that they are means that at some base level, the national leadership doesn't trust the troops. That's very damaging to morale. It doesn't BUILD trust amongst the troops, whether or not it deteriorates trust among the troops depends on the professionalism of the troops. They're Marines. They'll stay professional because they are Marines. However, as Marines, they generally have a heightened sense of purpose, and this doesn't help that. It may seem like a little thing, but the disarming is a big thing.

  13. Maybe Panetta should give his speaches somewhere else. I understand it, but it still pisses me off.

  14. Missed that one completely. Of course, I was being facetious. And Caster, you are correct. Chuck Norris is NOT in the episode because it is not a survival issue for him. In fact, he may have caused the outbreak by round house kicking someone so hard it killed them and brought them back to life; hence: undead....

  15. According to one official the decision was "stupid". THIS. An unarmed military is an oxymoron.

  16. CYA action for Major General Mark Gurganus. I understand it. However, if I were Panetta, my first order of business after learning of this would be a quick call to the Major General saying, "I want ALL my marines armed at ALL times. Especially when I'm with them!"

  17. I reuse SKS stripper clips all the time. Just the other day I loaded a PMAG with those same strippers your'e talking about and will be reusing those in the future. It's definitely faster to reload the mags from strippers and the clips are much easier to load by hand without something getting hung up. Haven't done any serious time/motion studies on the process but the clips definitely have the advantage and time-wise may actually take less time.

  18. You sound like one of the reasonable ones. I can honestly count on my two hands the RSO's that are decent guys. So yes the majority are full of attitude because you say there are 50-70 RSO's and I say of that 5-10 are decent guys and they know who they are. I speak to one of the decent guys a few times a week even though I never step foot on the range. A lot of the other RSO's are on a power trip or are just plain old idiots to the highest degree. You guys may not get paid but you do have other perks that more than make up for it. And you guys only work a day or two a month for those perks. I have been told I can't swap scopes on the back table. So I moved it to the bench at that point I was told if I wanted to work on guns I needed to do it at home. And no the range wasn't packed with people waiting. Had an RSO argue that LC brass was from Lenoir City and that is why it is so good. Another was an apparent sniper and that everyone needed to get one shot kills like he did with his 1911 "in the war". Had another build a silencer out of a soda bottle and duct tape. He mounted it on his 22 pistol and showed everyone on the line what he was doing. Then he tells everyone who had gathered that it is perfectly legal because it was just a soda bottle. And there were young kids, mid teens, there who got pretty excited about trying it themselves. There is one older RSO that all he does is grunt. He evidentally can't speak because all he ever does as he is checking weapons is swat his hand at the gun and grunt if there is a problem. He is absolutely one of the biggest jerks out there because he obviously feels he is entitled to be that way because of his orange vest and his advanced age. And yes the RSO's (yes multiple) have taken my brass on more than one occassion. I had one tell me when it hits the ground it becomes the ranges property and to leave it. So I started using a catch bag for my AR. There was nothing I could do for my 1911 except paint the brass pink after a sharpie wasn't good enough. I asked another RSO if I could shoot my suppressor there. He said he didn't know what I was talking about. I then said it was an NFA item and I got a WTF look. He then jumped on the radio and told me there were absolutely no allowed. 5 minutes later I heard the familiar pfft of someone firing a suppressor. My wife asked the RSO why he could and we couldn't. The RSO said it was because he made a copy of his paperwork up front. On the way out I asked about shooting suppressors and was told NFA items, including suppressors, were not allowed but it depends on the RSO. I was told some might allow it and some might try to seize it for the ATF. That was the last time I was at the range. And realize this isn't on one trip but dozens of trips over the course of 3-4 years. At this point I am glad I no longer go there. I understand the safety issue but you can be safe and courteous. Dolomite.

  21. Yeah but if me and you starred in a zombie flick, where would the drama and suspense be? I mean, what's entertaining about two rednecks sitting on the roof with a few thousand rounds and a half dozen rifles? Coleman cooler, a loaf of fresh bread baked in a dutch oven earlier that morning to make sandwiches out of that thin sliced deer we smoked two days ago and a twelve pack of beer chilling in a Zeer. Solar powered iPod playing the Zepplin box set. A few hours later we pack up and move to the next location. ....yes, I've thought about it many a time.

  22. This is a public range, Cherokee National Forest, unattended. He has as much right to scrounge as I do shoot. The only thing tht got me was the shot for shot brass collecting. Couldn't even get a chance to pick them up. I feel if your gonna pick brass either ask, or wait until they leave. I often don't want to pick up until I'm dive shooting and depending on how I feel may it may not pick it up. But that's my perogative.

  23. ............................................................................................................................. Honestly I cannot fathom why a company would ... keep on like this? I mean, all that was really necessary was a "That was an email that was sent by an employee that had no business doing so and apparently was having a bad day, and we apologize." but really? To go on for as many posts effectively talking down to people? We're not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but this is just silly. It is shops like yours, sir, that give all gun shops a bad name and drive sells to online vendors rather than their friendly local store. Whatever backlash you receive from this, known or unbeknownst to you, is well deserved.

  25. What you can say tho is this..We are sorry.. I am sorry for the letter that I send to you via email..It was a stupid thing to do.... I do not see anything in your responses yet that indicates that you think it was a bad choice..And you wonder why people wont step foot into your place anymore. Perhaps you need to reevaluate your business model and learn how to treat people. Man up and apologize.. simple!

  26. And the reason why I linked a competitor is to show the competitors pricing. The reason is when you tell someone that you have found it cheaper somewhere else their first question almost always is "where?" or "prove it". So I almost always provide a link if the item I am interested in is cheaper somewhere else. I do this to stop the back and forth emails that follow as well as gauge the seller before meeting them. I have even done this to people on here, some chose a new lower price and some don't. Either way it doesn't upset me because it is their choice to sell an item and for what price. And as everybody who knows me knows I try to haggle the price on almost anything. And sometimes people refuse and sometimes they accept or in most cases we meet somewhere in the middle. Dolomite

  27. A simple " This was in very bad taste. Not sure why we thought it would be good to insult a customer like this..We appologize!! " would do you a lot better than trying to backpeddle and trying to justify that response. Tulip

  28. Then what on earth could have possessed you to type that response? If someone doesn’t know how or why a local brick and mortar store would charge $147 more on a $4K rifle than the largest gun dealer on the internet, you would risk losing valuable customers by sending an email like that? It’s shameful to see this happening on this forum. I think this is childish on both your parts, unfortunately for you it could impact your sales.

  29. YOU just confirmed it by posting the complete email. The question... "Does your high end rifle have a different feature set and this one?". Your response was arrogant and insulting. Good luck getting anyone to see it any other way.

  30. OK. I got to go through the entire thread. I looked at who's on line and seen that Precision Firearms created an account today. Guess they are reading alot about customer service by the possible customers they lost.
