I work in a close office with about ~10 people which often as we work we talk about certain subjects from golf, sports, kids, spouses, and some of the others talk about alcohol escapades from years gone by to the present, etc.  Yesterday, a topic of SHTF came up, which was odd, because we as a group have never really talked about it before.  It all started when a couple of folks in the office mentioned they have to travel out of the country later this month for work, and Ebola fears was a concern (being trapped in an airplane).  I jokingly said they should bring along some gas masks.  From there the discussions really began.    A couple of women asked if I really had some gas masks after someone said that Runco would have many gas masks.  I said sure I do, one for each adult and kid in my house, and there are six of us.  Then the why, why, why, etc. started.  I started laying the groundwork as to why (I really don't have any gas masks but I could not resist the moment) and I may have embellished some of the whys as told my stories since I could tell they were at awe with my story.  One guy knew that I am into guns, and he added that Runco has enough weapons to arm a small army.  Another guy chimed in as in a BS moment, yea Runco has enough ammo to feed a small country in the Mid East (again a little BS to whip up the story), and Runco has enough food and water to stock Food City, etc, then one of the women was just fabergasted and more why, why, why.   The BS was being poured on, but her and now some of the others were losing their BS meter, and were now being serious.     Anyway as the stories unfolded I referred to my home as a compound and that me and my family could withstand a 30 to 60 day SHTF event complete with food, water, heat, plastic sheeting if need be, and of course defending the compound from looters and desperate starving people with the hoards and hoards of mean ole black guns.  A couple of the ladies said what on earth could happen in this local rural area just South of Knoxville that could ever cause me and my family to go into lock down, or even consider the thought.  At this point, I was quickly becoming the weird extremist in the room, and it appeared the BS was no where in sight.  The women and now some of the men had no clue, no thought, and were of the opinion that I was simply a nut because I was coming across as a very serious person.  Anyway I proceeded to inform them in a more serious manner that there were many "real" events that could happen in or outside Knoxville.  I referred to Katrina and the events that unfolded about that, but of course the group said that could not happen here.  I mentioned what if a 7.0 or a 8.0+ new Madrid earthquake were to happen today, even though we are ~500 miles to the East of the epicenter, history tells us that the new Madrid earthquake of 1811 and 1812 caused the church bells to ring in Massachusetts.  Surely if that were to happen that far away, we in East TN would feel something slightly more and likely causing severe damage.  I suggested that the earthquake of that magnitude could severely damage local infrastructure roads, bridges, homes, Dams, but that was not my biggest fear, but what about damage to Watts Bar Nuclear Plant which is just 30 miles from our office and my house.  Just like the Fukushima incident in Japan.  Most of the office didn't even know there was a  Nuc. plant in East TN, and when I mentioned there were two, they were blown away.  Then other crazy SHTF ideas were discussed like nuclear bombing of Oak Ridge, Magnetic Impulse bombing in the atmosphere, Fontana Dam breaking, Ebola outbreaks, major Tornadic outbreaks, etc.      Bottom line, though over 50% of discussion was BS and made with fun intentions, in the end I had everyone thinking that I was a extreme prepper (which I am not).  Later I realized that I actually had some folks (mainly the women) scared with my BS, so I had to go into damage control mode (no pun intended considering the topic).  These people were scared meaning they were scared of me as an extremist, but one did say they had never ever considered the SHTF events like I explained, and was going to talk to their husband.  Now this is the funniest or weirdest part, several hours later and many conversations later, the radio was playing in the background, I think 100.3 the Q or something, a major country music station out of Knoxville, a government public announcement came across.  It was an announcement about being prepared for a major earthquake in TN.  Can you believe that, and that was no BS.  For 5 min, you could have heard a pin needle drop!  BTW I had never heard this before, 1st time!    As I write this story at 4am in the morning with obvious insomnia occurring, have you ever experienced talking survival preparation with others, and did they have that wide eye deer in the headlight look and then did you realize they think you are weird or a nut? 

Been wanting one of these for awhile so thought I would share. This one is a .357 Magnum still in the factory box with registration, manual and NRA papers. Revolver still in the original Ruger plastic wrapping. Doesn't appear to be fired at all...............yet!!! I'm gonna have to take this one out for a range date soon.

Alright, so I actually saw 13 this morning. I pulled into the cemetery lot right at 5:00am and had 2 stand up in the headlights. The property I hunt has a right of way behind the cemetery and a dirt trail down the edge of two other peoples property for a few hundred yards. Parked and walked down the ridge and got into my climber I left out there Thursday. At 6:20 two deer came walking up to my left and a bit behind me - I could see their outline well and one of them kept standing on it's hind legs eating at branches. I had a shot, they were only at about 25 yards but it was still a bit too dark for me to feel comfortable taking the shot as I knew there was brush in that area that I could not make out. Settled back in and a few minutes later heard something walking up the ridge directly in front of me. 3 does popped over the edge and stopped at 20 yards. I let the arrow fly at 6:35 and heard the smack. At 7:00 I climbed down and found the arrow, verified blood. Sat some of my stuff down at the tree stand and slowly began trailing. I was going very slowly and looking ahead, at 7:30 I bumped her from where she bedded down - saw her right before she stood and hobbled away over the top of the next ridge. I snuck down to where she had bedded and saw a nice pool of blood,decided to wait a bit before continuing as she was moving slowly but too far ahead for a shot or me to catch up. I stood there for 5 minutes and all of a sudden heard walking behind me. I slowly turned as 5 does came walking down the ridge behind me and stopped 20 yards away feeding. I had a shot but decided I did not want to trail 2 deer. I waited another 5 minutes and slowly shifted my feet in the leaves causing them to look up and then walk off. I continued trailing, got to the top of the ridge and the 13th doe jumped up about 50 yards to my right. Another 60 yards and my doe was laying up against a tree. I finally got back to the truck about 8:20 with her. I didn't make a great shot but clipped a lung and she finally bled out. Went in in front of the shoulder and out behind the other shoulder. I kind of rushed the shot because this doe was in front and standing still but the other 2 were moving up quickly - should have waited to see where they would have moved and taken more of a broadside shot. I am going back out this afternoon and tomorrow morning, want to have 2 in the fridge before I start grinding burger. Used a Horton Pro 175 crossbow with red dot. Horton Bone Collector Carbon bolts and NAP Spitfire Edge 100gr 3 blade broad heads. I don't think anyone will mind these pics, not very graphic but this is a WARNING if someone looking over your shoulder is squeamish...

It has been 5 years( will be 6 in march 2015). I miss her everyday. But i always remember her words of wisdom. Since getting my permit i haven't been able to carry every day( mostly due to where i was working) but i do have a gun in my vehicle for when I'm off. I carry to church( even though it might not be needed, I still dont want to take a chance). Since my Fiancee has her permit and as a school teacher she can have her gun at work( just in her car), I don't worry as much, but the worry part will always be there somewhat. When you have family and loved ones you care about, you will worry about what can happen. Hence I am usually the over-prepared guy. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Noticed there are no future shows listed for the 'boro. Anyone know what's up? Maybe having issues with the owners again? This has been an on again/off again thing in the past. Hate to lose this one. Only decent show in the area.

Wives. What can you say? They will win every time. One way or another.

Yeah, I needed one because the muzzle device I picked is a 2 piece. With the shroud on it acts like a linear compensator. When it's off, it acts like a muzzle break. Without a crush washer the muzzle break was mis-timed by about 45 degrees past side-to-side. I don't open carry often but when I do I use I of the following level two retention holsters: 1) serpa: with proper training I feel this is a very safe holster. I feel the nd issues arise from people who don't put the needed training time in. The only down side I see is it does not ride very close to the body however I suppose this is not really an issue with open carry. 2) galco matrix6 holster. This holster is also level two but has a thumb release rather than the trigger finger like the serpa. I feel it rides a little closer to the body than the serpa does but does not have an adjustment for cant like the serpa. I find both to be very good holsters for open carry but in the end the serpa is my preferred of the two due to the cant adjustment.

The leather ones definitely have a break in period. I find I like leather for iwb and kydex paddle holsters for owb. You will probably just have to try some out and see what you like after carrying with it for a while.   I just realized I do currently own one holster with a retention strap; http://www.unclemikes.com/holsters/concealed-carry-holsters/super-belt-slide-holsters I bought it for $5 out of a grab box of used holsters at a gun show for my Smith 5906. Believe it or not that holster fit like a glove and I use it mainly as a truck gun, glove box or console, but have been carrying it some lately. Very comfortable and secure. I don't usually like these nylon type holsters but this one is good for what I use it for and the price was right.   If you're like me you'll have a closet full of holsters before you find the "right" one.

The bianchi "carrylock" is a fine holster. I carry a M&P 45 c every day, have carried a full sized m&p, a 40c and a full sized glock 22 all using the carrylock, I don't have one for a 92 but plan on getting one soon.

Now I have a decision to make, hunt the ridge again this afternoon or switch to the field stand and see if anything hits the pear tree. Pears have been getting ate, I just don't know when... wish I had a trail cam out there but maybe next year.

I try to avoid the subject as much as possible with anyone outside my family. Don't really want people knowing what I have or don't have, what I am prepared for or not prepared for, etc. Kind of like cc vs oc. I don't like to draw unwanted attention.

Check into Civilian Marksmanship Program Garands. Its the best deal out there for these great rifles. I made the trip to the CMP South store in Anniston, Alabama some years back and it was well worth the drive. They will loan you bore and chamber gauges so you can hand pick the one you want. I found a nice rifle that gauged out as a Service Grade, but was marked as a Field Grade due to a dirty and oil stained stock. It cleaned up very well and is a great shooter. I also got a M1 Carbine from CMP a few years ago. However, I think those are all sold out.

I have a little bit. Most folks used to think it was crazy but as of late, more and more people are coming to the realization that at a minimum we are going to have an economic crash or something that affects our entire country. There is a push by the left and the results won't be known till it's too late. Cloward piven strategy. The world is on fire and teetering on the brink. James Wesley Rawls book patriots is a great read, and as each day passes I see that scenario playing out. I'm not a prepper, I can't afford to do as would be required so I am hoping for the best. It would be difficult to be prepared for everything and who knows what's coming, one day at a time! Know your neighbors and if the shtf, at least you can pull together as a group. Get some sleep :)

I bet the .300 Blk bullet that Dolomite made would work pretty well in that application. After it's powdercoated, the diameter should be enough to size back down to .311. I've pulled bullets from steel cases in order to use the cases. If the bullet weights are similar, I do what he said, average the weights and use that. Or if I'm in a hurry, just pull the bullets and reseat a new one.

Everything weapons in Cool Springs had about every AR "small part" you could think of the time I went in there. You could buy any piece of an LPK or BCG that you needed so I would think that they would have a crush washer. I'm almost certain that I have a few spares and would be happy to give you one. The only catch is whether they are .22 or .30 cal washers. Let me know if you can't find anything close by and i'll check to see what I have.

I quite reading books many years ago and they going to the movie expecting to see anything even remotely close to the book. Now as I have gotten so old that my eyes are an issue and they don't print books In this size type  I just go see the movie or maybe not even both till in comes out on video and buy it.   One thing I will tell you about Eastwood's directing. He holds nothing back in a movie so if that piece of video was not in the book it was probably omitted from the book before publishing and Eastwood thought it should have not been and put it in. WOW sometimes being old ain't so bad. i just went and looked at the book and found out they make them in audio so might get to do both anyway...................... :up: :up:

I read the book several times and that scene is NOT in the book. If this is representative of what the rest of the movie is like ... it will be disappointing. The book stands well on its own merits, creative artistic license is not helping.

They have already mentioned an expansion in the next two years and moving there New York division down to Tennessee also. I am seeing more and more advertisements Paid for by the state of New York and  in the commercials they are almost begging companies to come their and open up shop. They are almost promising companies the keys to the state with zero taxes of any kind for the first 10 years the business is open and they are still losing businesses faster every day. They are just to ignorant to realize their liberal politicians running the state are driving off all their industry and yet they keep re-electing them. ...my first gun was given to me at age 8.  I lived in NJ/NY/CT mostly for the last 57 years.  These states are a "show cause" to obtain a pistol carry permit.  What does the application look like?  This from Westchester NY is typical:   * Proof of residency in the same location for at least 2 years * Bank reference (notorized) * $45 non-refundable application fee that is dated (all notorized references are to be within 30 days of the date of the initial applicaton) * Four personal references from un-related neighbors who have known you for at least two years - notorized * a completed application with 30 pages of questions * Interview with police * background check * finger print check * for cause hearing with a judge * Total wait time till initial determination - at least 1 year.   If you move your residence, please start over from the beginning.  95% of all carry applications in Westchester NY are denied.  I was denied several times and never did get a permit.  In Westchester NY all guns must be locked in your home.  You must have a permit to buy a handgun.  If you go to a range, the range management must check your permit against the guns you plan to shoot.    So, at age 57 NY enacted SAFE legislation in 2013 after Sandy.  This legislation outlawed the purchase of pistols with mags exceeding 7 rounds, existing guns had to have mag plugs to prevent loading more than 7 rounds, outlawed purchase of so-called assault weapons, required a gun registry for existing AWs, and requires a background check for all ammo purchases.  Police are given the data on ammo purchases and are directed by law to match up what you are buying with any permits you have.     The enactment of SAFE did it for me.  I quit my job, sold my house and moved to TN.   I obtained my carry permit within 7 days of filing the paperwork with Motor Vehicles.   FREE AT LAST!

Cheapest 12ga at walmart you can get. 8 shot, 115gr 9mm reloads and 55gr FMJ 223 reloads do it for me.

 Heroin is going through the roof. I remember around the beginning of this year I got heroin 2 or 3 times in one day. I hadn't seen heroin in several years and now it's back daily. All the opiate addicts are going to it because it is cheaper but it is causing overdoses quicker.

I thought if I stuck to just colt 1911s it would save money by not buying a lot of guns . It did not work lol
