Since the initial fee is $115 and renewals are only $50 every 5 years, that would be a sweet deal if you got your permit at 21 and lived until you were at least 89.5...then you'd break even.   Edit:  89.5 years old to break even.

It seems Shields are just about selling for new money on the used market now. I'm looking forward to picking some up maybe around the $275 mark.

every time I have purchased a firearm they FFL has told the TBI the serial number as well as all my information, including my SSN. Now whether they keep it and pass it along I do not know but if I were a betting person I would bet there is a massive excel file owned by the .gov with all that information.

My 4 yr old already has a airsoft gun (plastic bbs) and he already knows you NEVER point it at a PERSON, and it stays locked in my gun safe until WE go shoot it.

I would go M&P out of those. If you want capacity I'd go with the full size. If you want light carry I would go with the shield. I once owned a 9C and while it was a fine gun I just didn't really take to it. Also APEX makes some fine trigger kits for them.   I however carry a Glock 19 and love it.

If it was about convenience, they would simply allow HCP renewals to be conducted online like they do with drivers licenses.  This is all so they can say Tennessee has a "lifetime permit system in place."  It's a rip off from a money standpoint, and it's an insult from a handgun owners standpoint.

Some here remember the fight we had over the State income tax.  It tool a lot of people, but we got it done.  These issues are won on a face to face level INSIDE Legislative Plaza.  If you you want to make a difference, you will have to show up. As long as they can count on the media to take their part and advocates do not show the numbers needed to push an issue, they win, every time.  There were 565,646 hunting license purchased last year, and 480,000 plus handgun carry permits.  There is some overlap, but folks, that is a big enough number to make them sit up and listen.  If we got 20,000 at LP on "Gun Bill Day", I bet that would make a HUGE difference.

Gee guys you have to have this all wrong. Haslam is a Republican. I have been told for the last 12 years that I can guarantee my right to keep my guns by voting for all Republicans. Don't check up on them, just follow the party line and vote for all Republicans and the problem is solved. Knowing that this is the word of the almighty (my preacher told me the same thing!) you must have it all wrong.   WAKE UP! The battle for our guns is to check out every candidate and to keep the thumb on them while in office. Both parties will hurt us in a heartbeat, as soon as they can get more power by taking our guns!

Good ones, let me leave this one. 4 old retired guys were out driving and saw a sign for a pub so they stopped and went in. There was a sign over the bar ALL DRINKS 10 cents. So they all ordered a martini and the bartender said that will be 40 cents, well the martini's were great shaken and not stirred so they ordered another round. The bartender came back and said 40 cents gents. 1 of the guys said man how in the world do you stay in business selling drinks for 10 cents? The bartender said well about 3 years ago I won the lottery for 125 million I always wanted my own bar so I set the price for all drinks wine, beer, whiskey at 10 cents. Well there was about 7 or 8 people sitting at the other end of the bar but not a single glass in front of them and 1 of the guys says hey what is the deal with those folks not drinking? The bartender replied oh they are all from Florida and they are waiting for happy hour when the drinks are half priced plus they have coupons!!

We used to have bb gun wars all the time growing up, but there are pellet guns cheaply available today that have a similar performance of a rimfire rifle. They were available then too and a few of us had one, but they weren't allowed in the fights. I do recall a few years after high school hearing that one of my former classmates had shot another in the top of his foot with a heavy duty air rifle and that the other kid was walking with a cane for some years after.    It's a shame that it only takes a few instances like this and before you know it air guns will have the same stigma as real guns in the anti crowd.

I was always taught don't point ANY gun at anything you don't plan to kill, and the first lesson that was taught to me about was my first BB/pellet gun.

Bad news there. Reminds me of the BB guns wars we had when I was a kid. No pellets allowed and only 1 pump on rifles. It's amazing no one got hurt.

I have carried a M&P and also a XDM, but then I discovered the Glock 19 and I've never looked back. But out of the two choices, if I was forced to pick, I prefer the M&P lineup.

There are a lot of us who are really wondering about the depth of the motivations behind the most recent MITM SuperFish engine that came installed on the Lenovo machines.  Just make sure you give it a good scrubbing first.   I guess that goes for pretty much all of them these days.   I just made the switch to a MacBook after 35 years of being a PC guy.  After about 3 months in the environment, I'm not sure I'll consume Windows except through a VMWare environment again.  It's nice to be able to have a fresh image, load that image, do your work and start clean again next time.  I remain a big Microsoft believer, but virtualization in your personal computing consumption has a lot going for it.

  When I made the big switch in the late 70's to 9mm, I viewed it as a whimpy caliber. I guess it was, since I was moving from .357 magnum. We viewed 380 as a BB gun that didn't have room for a spring :). Shooting somebody with one was a good way to get your ass whipped.

  It works just fine. If it were me, I'd try to find some food-grade barrels if yours aren't. I personally wouldn't want the plastic stuff leeching into my root systems. Build some stands out of 2x4 lumber and you're all set. Make the racks tall enough to put the surface of the dirt at a comfortable height. No need to bend over to weed and such if you don't have to. Be sure to drill some holes in the bottom (formerly the side) for drainage.

Like I said in my first post here. If we can sit here and post and read things that make us upset, it only takes a few minutes to write a short but sweet email to your local guy or gal representing you and making your feelings know and make sure come next election you will remember how they voted on things that you wrote them about. I wish I was smart enough to put a petition together here and begin gathering signatures and when we have enough to turn some heads in the Wagon Circle send it to them and see if we can't open a hole in the circle of wagons. Ok, just sitting around the house being lazy today and thinking about some things.   As usual, it involves sitting here on the keyboard looking at different forum and news items.    And for the life of me, I really can't remember this morning where I first saw this quote..."It's not how you start...it's how you finish."    Damn. That really hit me hard today. Think about that. There is so much in that line that it poses thousands of questions and comments for me.    I sent about an hour searching it out and reading about it.   Seems that it's mostly attributed to Carlos Zambrano, the MLB pitcher for the Chicago Cubs and the Marlins. Read about him and some of his activites and comments.   Many of them are good, but this one really hit home.   The partial quote is from a comment he made during one of his pitching career interviews. The full quote is this..."It's not how you start, it's how you finish. We have to move on. I have 30 more starts. This doesn't bother me."   I know it relates to his career and the ups and downs of his time on the mound. But it just stood out. Boldly.   "It's not how you start, it's how you finish." Such power in that line.   It is an awesome truth.   It's also a motivational line that just screams out at me today.   As I said, I've been sitting around here thinking today, sort of taking stock of my life and blessings.   I turned 63 today. Not looking for words of congratulations.   It's just another day. An event like any other.   But I saw that line and just froze up. "It's not how you start...It's how you finish." Yes, I've modified the quote to add a little more emphasis.   I'm going to attempt to keep that in my mind. I think it's one of the most inspirational lines from the mouth of a human being I've ever read.   "I's not how you start...It's how you finish."   I'm going to try to live with that in mind every day going forth.     Sorry for the length, I'm just in that mood.

I will say that they are addictive. I came from shooting and owning glocks. This being my first 1911 I really didn't know what to expect. But I do know this; I really enjoy shooting this gun! Now I'm not gonna rid the safe of my glocks. But I have a feeling that the glocks are going to have to make room for more 1911's

Great job GT.  I always enjoy seeing the knives that the guys on here make. I even save the pics and open them in another venue that lets me ZOOM in to see the awesome detail these knives posses.  LOTS of talent here. Congrats on these two knives. They are awesome.

  Once again, not elegant.  Not as elegant as handloading and hunting them with a $500 handgun.  Much more 'sporting' our way.   Though I have knocked them out of the air with my hat and stomped them, when not properly armed.   Some of my son's in-laws in Ontario think that shooting bees is unbelievably redneck and typically American.  I agree and don't want to disappoint them.

I think it would be worth losing too. And it would very beneficial, for the leadership to know the reason she lost and who caused it. Personally, I think the Republican Leadership in Nashville sees us as a necessary evil to be courted during the election and ignored the rest of the time. Its the same way the Democrats treat the African American and LGBT vote.

My wife's carry and my suit-carry is a Sig P238. Very solid weapon, and quite compact. The selling point for my wife: it is a locking breach pistol, and therefore the slide does not have to be tightly sprung -- she can manage the slide easily. It is an elegant, tight and accurate weapon.
