  3. So last night I had to stop and get gas in the Franklin area right off of Interstate 65 at the Marathon gas station in front of Publix off of HWY 96 "if you know where that is". I pulled up and noticed a hispanic male sitting next to the garbage dumpsters to the right of the building...looked pretty out of place so I made sure to keep an eye on him while I was pumping gas. My windows are really really dark on my truck so I can use it to my advantage when I'm on the other side of the vehicle. I can kind of use it as a shield in a way if that makes sense...I acted completely oblivious and I was even whistling a song while I was standing with my back to the drivers side of my truck while pumping gas and I did that on purpose. I was using the reflections of the pump to watch what was going on behind me. Then it got fun... The guy I was watching left where he was sitting, snuck around some pumps, and hid behind the pump that was directly behind my back probably about 10-12 feet from the passenger side of my truck...he was rounding the corner coming towards the tailgate my truck when I turned around and made eye contact with him and he went running back towards the store. I did call the Franklin Police Department and report him for being suspicious for obvious reasons...I didn't see signs of a gun or knife but thats the first time I've had somebody actually try to sneak up on me before like that. I was pretty mad about it when I got home and stayed upset through most of the night honestly. My wife actually said something that kind of made me feel a little better about it. She said something to the effect that be glad it was you and not somebody else because you usually pay attention to stuff like that when others don't. So that helped a little, but I'm still upset it happened obviously. Just thought I would share my story...always be aware of whats going on around you my friends.

  5. This may not make most peoples list, but I have a Ruger addiction and like large bore calibers. I have been looking for a Ruger No. 1 in 45-70 for some time now, but have not been able to find one locally or at a price I was willing to pay. Yesterday I found one that met both criteria that was in great shape. I have never shot a No. 1, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it has one of the best triggers I have felt. I am suspicious that it has had some trigger work done, as there is no creep and is very light. It has Ruger rings, but I am not sure what I am going to mount on it. I have an older Leupold VX-3 1.5 by 5 that would work well, but it am seriously considering getting a peep sight of some kind. Any suggestions in this area would be helpful. I am going to have to sell some other firearms to pay for this per the agreement with the wife, but I couldn't be happier. That is fuzz on the checkering from the gun case I brought it home in.

  11.   I've already said it would be a really cheap shot to let Glenn get out of this one alive, so the author agrees with me. :)   Would harken back to the chintzy cliffhanger days of the many serials where the hero or damsel faces certain doom at the end of each episode but always prevails. The writers have thus far never resorted to this or any miracle deus ex machina type stuff to save a favorite, so I really don't expect them to start now.   But of course, I've been wrong 2 or 3 times in my life. ;) ;)   - OS

  16. Absolutely incorrect. Sorry but Dot 3 / Dot 4 brake fluid is hygroscopic, it will readily absorb moisture from the air. If it's been in your car for two years or more it's often absorbed enough water to drastically reduce it's boiling point causing a spongy pedal after prolonged braking and promoting the rusting of brake components from within. Drive a car capable of boiling the fluid hard enough and you"ll change your tune after experiencing the pedal fade away when you need brakes the most. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  20. I'm always aware of my surroundings. I've been that way since my early years in the Martial Arts. That was a long time ago, but I developed the habit and it has stayed with me all this time. My wife tells our friends I've got eyes in the back of my head because of things I see sometimes. LOL. I've drilled it into her too and she does a pretty good job now. I still prod her sometimes though to get better. Congrats on being alert!! You can't defend against something you miss seeing.

  23. When I re-watched the episode, I noticed that it opened focused solely on Glen, even though they were all running, and if Glen is dead, then his last words to Rick mirrored the first time they talked via radio.  Nicholas and Glen wore very similar clothes so we can't use the visible portion of shirt as the body was torn open to know for sure to whom it belonged.   It didn't look like there was enough room under that dumpster to me, so if he survives, it would be more unbelievable than the living dead.  Now, if he got bit multiple times but got away, and he was going to die anyway, I might could suspend by belief a little.  Even if Nicholas's body was directly on top of him, there is no realistic way, short of a miracle, that he did not get bit +/- eaten.  In that last overhead scene, presumably Nicholas was directly on top of him because all the Walkers were centered on one narrow area.   Also, on my way back from the Gulf, I drove through the town where they filmed these scenes on the last episode.

  30. My right knee sometimes aches, gets weak, gives out or even briefly locks up on me. Not often but sometimes. For that reason, I sometimes carry a cane just in case I need it. I carry one at work pretty much every day because there are stairs and such and going up and down stairs is usually when my knee will fail. I have always enjoyed sort of collecting canes, anyway, and have made a couple over the years. This is the one I have been carrying at work, lately: I turned the shaft on a lathe. At first, I had intended it to be all one piece with a wooden 'knob' as the handle but changed my mind as I went along. Instead, I put the knob at the bottom as sort of a pendulum/counterbalance to help the cane swing forward better when walking and used a small horse collar hame as the handle. I never could get the hame attached to the handle tightly enough to keep it from rattling some when I would use it (it was stable but had just enough play to rattle) so I recently wrapped the part where it attaches to the shaft with paracord with an integrated wrist loop. I don't carry it specifically for self defense but (as I can't carry a firearm, etc. at work) if I had to press it into use as such I imagine it would get the job done admirably. This is another I made using a 'twisted' (had a vine growing up it) piece of dogwood that I harvested, myself. I also turned it on the lathe, a little, just to thin down the top and bottom portions of the shaft as it was too thick and would have been way too heavy to use for a cane, otherwise. I have a larger hame as the handle on it. Finally, this is one I made to take with me when I was going on a cruise. I wasn't sure if the hames on the others would pass getting on and off the ship so I turned another shaft (oak, I think, but I can't remember for sure) and carved/shaped my own variation on a Derby style handle out of cherry. The ring around the neck of the cane (covering where handle joined shaft) is copper fitting from Home Depot. It worked great on the cruise and I used it for several months afterward then one day the handle just suddenly broke at a weak spot in the actual grip part of the handle. That was a complete bummer as this may well have been my favorite of all the canes, hiking sticks and walking sticks I have made. I have a couple of other handles I am working on that may, eventually, replace the broken one if I can get the remnants of the handle off without ruining the shaft. I used a bolt and epoxy to attach it in the first place because I wanted the joint to be very strong. Well, it is strong, alright - I can't get it apart. I don't have as easy access to the lathe as I once did so I haven't made any in a while. Just thought I'd show some ideas for canes that would work well as walking aids and, I believe, could function admirably if pressed into a role of self defense device. Also, Cold Steel makes this using man-made materials made to look (sort of) like real wood: http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/91PBS/IRISH_BLACKTHORN_WALKING_STICK.aspx

  31.   Maybe....., Maybe Not.   I'm betting most folks will find that trying to control the wobble-zone while standing and using a 4x scope at the 200 yard line is easier said than done.   However, the question I have already asked using the CMP Instructor email is in regard to using variable power scopes like the ELCAN SpecterDR 1-4x.  SOCOM units are using that scope and its beginning to be found in regular units.  So its an issued optic for the service.  I haven't heard back from the CMP on that one yet.   Even if variables are approved, I don't see a lot of shooters running out and buying the ELCAN at $2K+.  However, a company like Primary Arms could developed a clone and that would be a game-changer.

  32. If Glenn's dead, then why wasn't he listed in the Memoriam of the Talking Dead when they had everyone else but him?. They have never left anyone that died off of that and how would they do it now if he did die? Say they made a mistake and put it in next weeks show? Don't say flashbacks, because Lizzie, Mika, the Governor and others were in Tyreeses flashbacks, yet was named in the Memoriam of the Talking Dead when they died.  LOL....No, he ain't dead. In another note, did anyone notice the Daryl look alike walker in the pet shop scene? It was the screen shot out of the window when the walkers first turned towards the door. My wife ran the recorder back and stopped it. It had his hairdo down to a tee. We thought it was him for a minute, but then they moved to him riding back to meet Abraham and Sasha.

  34. I finished this build back in April or May or something. Special thanks to Gordon for making my buffer less than 2 oz. I haven't ran this gun with the new Syrac gas block on it, but it has to run a little better than that cheap POS $20 adjustable gas block I had on it when I went out the range the first time. The rifle ran fine before the swap. I did modify the trigger springs to lighten up the pull, but it would not hurt if I polished the grit out of the trigger. The trigger pull is nothing to write home about, especially compared to my current project.... Anyways, if you wasted two minutes of your life taking that rot-gut excuse of a write up, you deserve a few pics to make up.

  41. My mother was a dependapotumus. After she and my father divorced she dedicated her life to playing the system and doing everything she could to keep my father in and out of court, although he had done nothing wrong. My father was a a naval officer and while he was a deadbeat in the term of humanity, he paid his child support. As an adult now, I fully understand why he was absent, my mother was as crazy as this woman this thread is about. I can't recall her holding a stable job my entire life, and she has been in and out of jail quite a bit. Unfortunately for this woman's children, I don't have much hope for them either. Of my five other siblings, I am the only one that has come out of that disaster and created some semblance of a normal life. Drug abuse, prostitution and physical abuse were things I saw daily and grew up with as 'normal and accepted.' We grew up in the trailer parks near military bases so my mother could ply her trade. Her third husband was in the Army until she managed to get him drummed out and ruined his life.   But she was always a victim.   It took me nearly twenty years after leaving home (and the foster care system) to get her out of my life. After watching most of my siblings follow directly in her path. I have a sister in prison, and she will be there for another seven years or so. I have a brother that is currently a fugitive, another sister that drank herself into oblivion and lost custody of her children and last I heard was living on the streets.   I removed myself from that life.   It is not worth the drama, and you can't fix what wants to stay broken.   My advice to the OP?   Move on, and forget any association with that woman.   If you cross her, she will make it her life to ruin you, and she has NOTHING else to do. That will be her job, and I am sure she won't mind the overtime.

  43. I've only ever done cars the old fashioned way.  In my experience the mityvac kits don't work worth a crap on cars with ABS.  They won't pull enough vacuum to move the fluid through all the ABS plumbing, particularly all the way to the back brakes.  Every time I've tried one I've had to go back and bleed them again the old fashioned way a couple days later.  They work good for motorcycles, cars not so much.

  45. Barely interested. Won't be seeing it in the theater. THIS coming from one of the biggest Star Wars fans TGO has ever had. Not bragging, just truth. Why? Disney. What did Disney do that's so bad you ask? Disney has come out and said that any and all expanded universe is no longer canon. Bull śhît!!!!!!!! I spent years reading. There are over 200 full length novels and stories that are ten fold more involved and in depth than ANYTHING Lucas ever did. Just the work Karen Traviss did with the Mandalorians and Clone troopers is massive. So they're gonna tell me that Grand Admiral Thrawn never existed unless it suits them? Eff You!! The Yusong Vong war? Jacen Solo becoming Darth Caedus? Boba Fett finding the cure for accelerated aging to save thousands of clone lives? Mandalore making a full recovery and the return of the Madalorians? Boba building the most elite and highest quality military manufacturing facility (Mandal Motors) surpassing even the Correlians for bad ass star fighters? Did Chewbacca NOT die saving Anakin Solo from a moon crashing into Serndipal ? (Okay, that would be nice) I could go on for hours and it's all for nothing? I hate you Disney. The Force is not in you.
