  1. Got this in my e-mail. I liked it a lot. --------------------------- (Apparently not from the original source quoted in the e-mail I received, but rather from Ben Stein in 2005)   My confession: I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat... Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old but there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to. In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking. In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc.. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school... The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK. Then Dr. Steven Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about.. And we said okay.. Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves. Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.' Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace. Are you laughing yet? Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us. Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not, just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

  2. PM me your address, I will get it in the mail in the next few days. I don't think it should be over five dollars to ship, so don't worry. Merry Christmas!

  11. As far as the Christmas Trees go I had a long standing falling out with the manager at the local Lowes store here about 6 years ago about their sign that said in big bold letters "HOLIDAY TREES FOR SALE" I walked into the store and a clerk ask me if he could help me and I told him I was looking for a Christmas Tree. He said real of artificial and I said  real. He took me out side and pointed to the trees called Holiday Trees. I told him I didn't want a Holiday Tree, I wanted a Christmas Tree. He knew quite quickly he was in over his head so he requested a manager come and assist him. I went through the same thing with the management  and he finally told me the only Christmas Trees they have are fake and walked away with his clerk in tow. On New Years Eve I was back and there was no Holiday Trees to be found and I asked the a clerk to speak to the management. Dang if it was not the same guy. I asked him were all the Holiday Trees were at since after all New Years day was a Holiday and I wanted Holiday Tree. He just looked at me and said they were sold out and walked away. He saw me again on Easter and Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Finally he asked me just what my problem is and I said political correctness is my problem and companies that kiss Politically Corrects ass. He ask me for my name if I had an email and I gave him both. Somewhere on one of my old computers I have their letter stored and it is such a great email letter I am hoping to find it so I can post it. In the end I won the battle of the Christmas Trees in the Gallatin store that i know of. When the real trees went up for sale at the store the sign read. "CHRISTMAS TREES ON SALE." That year Lowes actually did sell out of live trees for the first time in about 5 years. None were thrown out. Walmart followed the next year here and employees in both stores began wishing people Merry Christmas again. Just a small victory but a victory none the less................jmho

  13. How is this linked back to President Obama?  That article just dropped his name as a dog whistle to piss off gun owners, which is status quo for these hack jobs.   The isn't any open investigation by the SEC, just a highly publicized request from the New York City Public Advocate (apparently that's a real job) to start one.  And it seems like a part of a multi-pronged attack since they are taking other actions to hurt S&W financially.  I doubt either gains much traction since they come from an office with no real power other than to hold press conferences and sue businesses within New York City.  The SEC has far more important matters on its plate and not enough staff to get it done, and banks don't drop accounts as big as S&W without good reason.   If I had to guess, I'd say stocks are taking a hit because of short sellers.  They looked at trends of how S&W stock does when guns are in the news, bought when San Bernardino came around, then sold after making a profit before things returned to normal.  Looking at the stock and pointing out the dates of the shootings, then the oval office address would support that.   But yeah, the President isn't even close to involved in this.

  14.   It has been rumored that Comms has a subliminal and unnatural attraction for the .40 S&W.   I don't believe it for a minute! We all know he is a major promoter of the 10mm...you know, the longer version of the .40 :ugh:   I, myself, am only manly enough for a 9mm...so I can't cast stones...perhaps one day I too can handle the 10mm ... :pleased:         eta...Comms...you know I'm kiddin' right?

  18. Chances are they are worth about $1000-1200 together. This is not woodworking or specialty pricing but true log prices. This is if you loaded them on a trailer and drove them to the mill yourself. Hauling would deduct up to $200 from the total price. Of course sourcing a mill or log buyer is the hardest part. I will look tomorrow when I'm at the office (TN Div of Forestry) and see if there are any mills in the region and you can call and see if they can help.

  21. I haven't encountered anyone yet who gets offended when I wish them a merry Christmas.  In fact, almost every service industry employee (for the big corps) will say "happy holidays" to me during this time of year, and it's been this way for at least the past 5 years.  I often respond with "merry Christmas"; not because I'm making a point to it, but because that's what I actually mean.  I'm sure I've encountered folks who don't celebrate Christmas, but none have ever acted offended that I could tell.  However, I see all the time people get offended by people saying "happy holidays".  I don't see the issue with it.  We are a diverse nation, and although the majority celebrate Christmas, not everyone does.  It just makes sense for businesses to water it down and make it non-specific, because not ALL of their customers will celebrate Christmas... like 20% of their customers.    I will say, though, not calling them Christmas trees is ridiculous.  That's what they are for.  Nobody is calling a menorah a "8 candle holder".

  24. I myself love the CZ pistols. My first carry piece was a P01. That being said, the complexities internally steered me towards something simpler. Now all I own are Glock. I am not saying it is not possible to disassemble and reassemble a CZ. I simply felt I served myself better by switching to a simpler design. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. I plan on adding a High-Power to my gun collection after the first of the year. I feel I have a good variety of guns to meet my self defense needs so that will not be the reason for this purchase. I am buying this gun with the intention of passing it down to my sons when the time comes. This will be the reason for most of my gun purchases in the future. I would like to pass on guns that have some significance in firearms history. Having spent most of my focus on Glock pistols I am not familiar with the High-Power at all. I fact I don't recall ever having laid eyes on one. I have researched the pistol and it does seem to stand out as an interesting firearm. I would appreciate any input on this gun as far as the following is concerned: 1) is this a reliable firearm 2) are there any common issues with I should know about 3) is my research correct is this an important firearm from historical perspective I appreciate any help y'all can give and any recommendations on other firearms that would be interesting pieces to pass down would be appreciated. Thanks 1. Yes 2. None that I am aware of 3. Depends on your perspective? I can tell you I purchased one a while ago for the very same reason. Its one of the earlier models and it is a classic. For me spending time with my son shooting is priceless. He is 11 now and is very capable with anything from a 22 to a 10mm. He happens to appreciate the 1911 platform as well the Highpower. He can shoot the plastic wonders as well but according to him there just not the same. I am guessing if you were interested someone might let you take one for a spin. Also if it ever comes to fruition a CMP 1911 would be hard to beat as an heirloom. Good luck.

  30. Trucks are no longer just a working man's vehicle. Now they are a status symbol. If it has 4 doors and only a 4 foot bed, it's not a truck. It's an SUV without a trunk lid. If you can't put a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in it, it's not a truck. If you are a Suburban Warrior with a LD complex, then a big expensive truck will compensate.

  31.   "Engaged in the business" of being a gunsmith, from USC:   " ... a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to engaging in such activity as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional repairs of firearms, or who occasionally fits special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms"   See my previous post for definition of "principal objective of livelihood and profit"   Can't say for sure regarding storing others' firearms if not "engaged in the business", but AFAIK it's not federally unlawful in and of itself any more than it is to keep one for a relative or friend or whatever.   - OS

  32. My wife's granddad (just turned 89 and going strong) has this but he can't remember what it is. The "pitcher" appears to be copper and about 8" tall and 3" in diameter. The "brush" is made from a fairly porous stone, but not so porous as pumice. Anyone recognize this?

  35. Since my retirement my blade doesn't get used much either.  So I went to my Tanto blade auto clipped to my pocket for protection purposes and for use when needed.  Pockets, don't carry much either.  Along with my blade, just a front pocket wallet is all.  More weight will be on the belt now, which there never was.  lol

  36. I just called Glock customer support.  I explained in probably too much detail exactly what the gun has been doing.  All he really wanted to know was the serial number and how many rounds have been through it.  He indicated that it should be able to fire any common commercial ammo and is sending a return label for me to send it in.  I will follow-up when I get it back.  Hopefully it won't take too long.

  37. Stages posted...Will have a 4th depending on time. Don't worry though, there will be plenty of shooting to be had for all that make it! There are several knock down 6" plates scattered throughout! Round count will be 73 minimum, potentially well over 100 if the plates or dueling tree get you!   Classes: Stock (stock gun, full mags) Modified (externally modified gun, full mags) Open (red dot, laser, ect, also full mags) PCC (Pistol Cal Carbine)   2 reminders: 1)This is our last match of the year, and we will resume January 6th with our weekly matches. 2) This is the donation match, so bring some new, unwrapped toys ($15 min) and shoot for $5! No worries if you forget or don't want to shop, regular match entry fee is available. They will go to a local charity providing toys for a family that wouldn't have the ability without help.   Stages: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Z2FuKZ4cVwYWJTb00yaVU5U0k/view?usp=sharing

  39. Interesting, we go pretty regularly as well.  Boo at the Zoo was the last time we were there and the sign was still up.  I know the zoo is part of Chilhowee park and there's the whole controversy about whether they can legally post the place with the new guns in parks laws.  Perhaps they've consulted with their lawyers and were advised to comply with the law.  I'd be quite surprised if they voluntarily  removed the posting given the general attitude of the Knoxville administration.
