  1. So how many times have you been to your doctor, dentist, chiropractor, or eye doc's office's waiting room only to find nothing but old lady magazines strewed about? If you're real lucky, maybe a Sports Illustrated or Road & Track?   Why not guarantee some good reading during your wait and then paying it forward by leaving a copy or two of your favorite gun magazine? I've been doing this for years.   We all have that pile laying around the house that we can't stand the thought of tossing in the garbage, yet we've read them cover to cover several times. I keep a rolling stack of such magazines in my utility closet and when I head to a doc's office, take a couple with me to slide into the pile. It's pretty fun too if you're a people watcher like me. In will walk a guy that you just know shoots cold steel, and then confirm it when he beelines right for the gun mag you put between Better Home & Gardens and the Nashville Scene.   And it's always fun if you spot a liberal who suddenly gets that "shocked look of disdain!"     So share the wealth and shoot it forward.

  2. Used pistol Manufacture year was 2000 - picked this up today and it's my first Hi-Power. I really like the bluing and there is not a scratch or blemish to be found. It appears to have been shot very little so much so that internals look new as well. Came with just one mag and I ordered another today. I don't have a trigger gauge to tell me lbs, but this trigger is very smooth and crisp and feels the 5-6 lb range. I'll post a range report next week when I can get to the range. Cheers!

  8. Great having you two out again. Love watching the brotherly competition. It was good to see everyone and having new shooters. Hope everyone enjoyed the match on this beautiful February day. We appreciate you spending your day with us. Thanks to everyone who showed up early to help with setup, it made everything go well.

  9. Get off the tourist path and explore. The Happy Meal at McDonald's cost $15 the last time we were in Zurich. Off on side streets you can get relatively large and good meals for $5 to $6. Any US franchise is expensive. Eating food Off the street carts may be romantic but learn the local phrases for stomach & diarrhea medicine ahead of time. They will not understand your humor and Google translate will make it worse. The "ugly american" who knows it all and tells them what's wrong with their country or work process Will offend the nationals and limit the positive interaction you can have. You are rich, just because you could make the trip so look for prices to increase and legal issues like drugs to not be forgiven easily. Keep copies of your passport stashed in different suitcases in case you get robbed. Current value of stolen US passport was $1000 last I checked. My experience. Your mileage may vary.

  12. First and foremost, Merry Christmas! After months of passively searching, I purchased a factory FDE SilencerCo Osprey 45 suppressor for my FN FNX 45 Tactical in FDE. I purchased the suppressor via GunBroker from BMC Tactical/Warrior Steel. After remitting my payment 45 days ago, my suppressor arrived at my preferred LGS, the Nashville Armory. The wait time officially begins as my paperwork has been submitted!

  13. He sure looks better! Their ability to physically recover is amazing. I'm sure that once he is feeling better and has energy for play that his muscle will return. His eyes look good and he's certainly relaxed in the photos. I'm sure he'll spring back quick. Thanks for the update.

  16. I went to the Green Hills theater today to watch Sicario(which was awesome), and I saw staff wanding people looking for weapons before a special viewing. I was disturbed by this and spoke to a cop there. I asked him where the signage was banning weapons from the premises? I looked everywhere and not a one sign in sight. The manager said, "I think we have one somewhere...." Yeah, that wand is gonna do a lot of good when a psycho goes out the unguarded exit door in the theater and gets weapons. Rolling my eyes at that.. The cop didn't know dick about proper signs or anything like that. I don't think he fully understood anything. I'm preaching to the choir here, but I was annoyed by it all. Just had to get it off my chest.

  17. A quick Google shows plenty of places to buy a rambler. Not sure what you mean by that. And shipping is never the hold up. Production will, but shipping in today's world isn't really a constraint for anything.

  21. I have never seen a gun mag in a doctor's office but when I was a kid in Georgia the Barber Shop my dad took me to had millions of Guns&Ammo mags. When the Barber finished up my haircut he'd always offer me a piece of bubblegum. I'd always say "can I have this gun book instead?" He'd laugh and I'd get both. Man those were the good old days. Circa 1970.

  22. 1) forget the glock. Non in the registry. All Post 86. So thats out.   2) MP5's… Get a sear. Not a registered receiver. Can swap between whatever gun you want. Even a semi auto M249. They use MP5 packs. That sear is extremely versatile.    3) M16's… Cheaper you get doesn't always mean bad quality. You can make anything run. Thats not a problem. Yes, you pay to click and go with better quality. But, again, you can make anything work.   I might have a line on a sear pack for a good price if you're ready to buy now. Just let me know. I know some people with a couple that I'm sure they would part with.

  24. I went one step farther with GP and my dentist. I offered to have a subscription delivered to them so I had something to read when I got there. Both said they had subscriptions to Guns and Ammo and another mag. They usually didn't last more than a couple of days in the waiting room.

  25. Since you are going for work I don't know how much free time you will have, but if you have some free time you are definitely going to some amazing places. In Zurich you are only 1 hour from Mt. Pilatus and Lake Lucerne. Both of which are awesome. Then in Paris don't fail to go up in the Eiffel Tower. You can see it from just about anywhere in the city. Also go to Notre Dame Cathedral (whether Catholic or not, it is amazing to read the history of the place and see all that is in there). And if you can, take a river cruise on the River Seine. It is an amazing, once in a lifetime experience (especially the night cruise and see the Eiffel Tower lit up in the dark). And of course in Munich you have to go the Hofbrauhaus Beer Hall. Founded in 1589 it is one of Munich's oldest beer halls. Have fun and soak in every moment you can.

  29.   +1 on Graycrait's first suggestion as a beginning point, then add the second if she has enough interest .  A "factory" 10-22 with Tech sights, swivels and a canvas sling has earned many shooters a rifleman patch.    The Ruger is the most popular but some people like the Marlin 795 for Appleseed.  They actually make a  factory LTR version complete w/Tech sights and sling that's available for about $200 on-line.  Either way you end up with a nice .22LR shooter for a decent investment.   One thing to keep in mind - the most accuracy needed to shoot rifleman is about 4 MOA (hit a square inch target at 25 yards).  In three of the four stages the targets are larger.  The "devil" is in shooting the required sequence of positions/targets/firing patterns within the time limits while doing the reloads. It's all about learning how to be a rifleman that can lay down effective fire rapidly not about sharpshooter/sniper accuracy.  Plus some US history for emphasis.     Plus It's a lot of fun.  I strongly suggest that you shoot both days when you go.  They are different.  You'll learn a lot but there's no room for ego.  I saw combat veterans that had to "unlearn/relearn" to improve their scoring.  Should be a great weekend with your daughter.

  30. Going west is much easier for jet lag to me.     As for tips,   Money - Call your credit/debit card companies and tell them you'll be traveling. They'll usually want the dates and countries you'll be visiting. This will help prevent them from freezing your accounts if they think it's fraudulent activity. You can order foreign currency from your bank. Having a few hundred dollars worth of Swiss Francs for pocket money when you get off the plane is nice for some food, cab fare, etc. Then you don't feel rushed to find an ATM or an over-priced currency exchange counter at the airport or train station. I wouldn't bother ordering any Euros. By the time you leave Swissyland you'll have figured out how it all works. You'll probably get hit with an ATM fee each time, so minimize that by taking out as much as you feel comfortable with. Some US banks have partnerships with foreign banks to waive ATM fees. I know Bank of America is partnered with Barclay's in the UK, BNP Parabas in France, and Deutschebank in Germany. See if your card of choice charges a foreign transaction fee in addition to the currency conversion fee. You can't avoid the conversion fee, but you can avoid the foreign transaction fee by using a card without one or by paying with cash as much as possible. You should have a 4-digit PIN on your credit/debit card. If you have a 3-digit one, change it. Some European ATMs require a 4-digit PIN. If you don't have chip-and-PIN cards yet (card with the gold chip) get them. Just ask your card issuer and they'll send you one. Magnetic stripes are all but gone in Europe. Language - Don't sweat it too much if you don't know the language. Focus on learning as much German as you can because it's easier than French (much of English is Germanic) and because German will be used in both Munich and Zurich. Then pick up a little French. Despite the stereotypes, I've found the French (even in Paris) to be accommodating as long as I don't start the conversations with a poorly pronounced "Parlay voo Eenglash?" If I try to speak French, they'll usually speak English because it's apparent that my French isn't very good, but they appreciate the effort. I've found the Berlitz "Rush Hour" audio series to be excellent for some quick conversational/travel phrases. they set it to music so it gets in your brain like an ear worm. I still remember the songs from an Italian one I listened to over-and-over-and-over again 10 years ago. Nashville Public Library has many of them, so try some for free and see what you like. Books - I love the Eyewitness Travel books from D-K publishing. Most others are lousy because you have to read too much. The Nashville library has just about all of them. McKay Books on OHB in west Nashville usually has quite a few too for cheaper prices than a bookstore or Amazon. I like the little "Top 10" versions for carrying around with me in a day bag or a pocket.

  36. I want to thank all of the great TGO members for all their help and good wishes. MrsMonkey took this all on herself and it has been a challenge. Just one look at Cooper makes it all worth while. The little pups are fuzzy and cute and I feel will find much better homes this way, but Cooper and Glam are really special. To see these two that have never know anything other than the animal shelter is amazing. Cooper is more comfortable in his crate where he feels safe than any other dog I've seen. I think it's the first time in his life he can relax. At six months glam is seeing the world for the first time outside of the shelter. I'm really proud of my wife for doing this even after I woke up with a puppy on my face. :)

It has thumb jimping and is double acid etched and has very thin red G10 liners with Andiroba (African mahogany) and African Blackwood scales with mosaic pins. It's headed to a new home in Nashville.

  45. I purposely left my first post short to add this now.   I would take that chance to engage an active shooter whether I or my family were in danger or not.  But I have a bit more training than the average gun carriers and have enough confidence in my training to feel that I would make a good decision on whether to take the shot or not.     This is not to say I am an expert door kicking Seal Team, Delta force, Ninja or anything, but I've been lucky enough to get some good training and have had the unfortunate opportunity to exchange gunfire in combat which gave me the knowledge of how I would react in certain life and death circumstances.  You would be surprised at how some react in SHTF situations, even combat vets.   But threads like this do give me something to consider, and should be considered by all of us; if you choose to engage you may just be on your own!

  46. Hell no! You are only obligate to save your family's ass and your own ass. That being said - if Jihadi John is gunning dudes down, and I am not outgunned and can get a clean shot on him without being engaged Ill do it Other than that, not my problem Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
