  1. Try and have a normal Saturday and someone leaves the door open... i really want to lock this one up, but I have a feeling there's still some gold yet to be found.

  2. Ahem. If I may interject a little music biz perspective? All of these services are basically criminal. They pay zilch to the creators of the content you are listening to. Where a standard BMI/ASCAP agreement would have them pay, say, $2,000,000 to be distributed to songwriters, these services pay about $20,000. They are ripping off friends of mine, and making it extremely difficult to continue to make the content you are enjoying. One particular songwriter I know had his checks fall from $100,000 + annually to $46.00. Yes, you read that correctly; $46.00. Do you want him and others like him to continue to make the music you want to hear? Then pay them, and give them the freedom to write and use their creativity. They can't do it very well when they're having to do a normal 9-5 to try to pay their bills. Don't use these services, don't file share, and don't use Google, they are in full support of music piracy. Rant done.

  3. I have friends in the tree business with a utility company. They swear by Husqvarna and the pro grade still stuff. I have a Jonesred which is a red Husqvarna and it's awesome. The key to these sallow engines I've found is avoid ethanol gas at all costs. Treat them right and they last for a very long time....

  4. Sounds like there are different kinds of protective vests, making it important to get the right one for the job. I appreciate all of you who have a job where you need one. I find it quite irritating when folks who lay their lives on the line have to pay for their own vest. They are expensive.

  5. Something about these little 100 plus year old wheel guns that is intriguing. With a working one in my hand, I often think it may well have been assembled by an old Civil War vet. Well anyway, I picked this up on GB about a year ago for about a hundred bucks. Last month I did a similar rebuild on a little 22 short called a Captain Jack. The Ranger is a good choice for a rebuild since it uses coil springs for the cylinder latch lever and cylinder locking lug. Also the hand is sprung very nicely with a strong spring arm pined into the hammer. Many of these early mouse guns used tiny leaf springs that would be a real pain to fab up since they are usually shot. As with a lot of these, I had to beat the cylinder pin out of the gun. The cylinder had about .016" end shake so the picture shows the building up of weld that will extend the length of the cylinder and I will turn the weld into a thicker bushing face. The original diameter over the cylinder pin was very thin allowing the hammer to beat the cylinder forward over the many firings. Heres the turned cylinder with a new pin made from oil hardened drill rod. Once the cylinder is fit into the frame with virtually no forward to back play, The barrel face is turned back and drilled out to .250". Then a new 22 sleeve is turned to fit and epoxied into the barrel. most any of these early guns will have the hammer and or the trigger sear wiped out as seen here. The fix is once again a build up of weld and recutting the hammer sear notches. Reshaped and the trigger spring was trimmed to lighten it up to a far more comfortable let off. After the trigger is re-timed with the action, I simply hardened it with Kasenite. The front sight was missing so I soldered in a new blade and trimmed it down to POA. The target is a 7 round cylinder string fired off hand at 6 feet. The only rounds that I would say is safe to fire in a well functioning BP mouse gun are CCI #0026 22 SHORT CB rounds. These round have no powder in them. only a primer charge. I'm always on the look out for those CCI #0026 rounds. I use them in an old Belgian Flobert type rolling block I have. You gotta love putting life back into these grand old guns! I sure do

  6. I've had this knife for a few years and pulled it out today while going through my gun safe. Since I had it out, I thought I'd share some pics of it. It is a handcrafted knife made by Ken Largin of Kelgin Fine Cutlery. It's made with a Damascus steel he had made using material from the Campo del Cielo meteorite that landed in Argentina around 5,000 years ago. The handle is reconstituted stone and springbok horn with an ammonite buttcap. There is a small piece of the meteorite in the photos next to the blade. Overall length is about 8 inches and the blade is about 3.75" long. I received it in trade for some custom sheath work, but the funny thing is that I never got around to making a sheath for it. Ah, well... Like the old saying goes, the cobbler's children have no shoes.

  10. And that makes it really easy on TN law enforcement. They don't have to memorize, or look up which states permits are OK in TN. You got a valid permit from another state, you are good to go in TN. Just like drivers licenses. That's the way it should be.

  18. Regardless of one's idea of fairness, doing the right thing for the right reasons is its own reward. Regardless of the idiocy of their governments of folks's home states, allowing folks the ability to have the means to defend themselves is the right thing to do. Just because others act a fool, does not require us to act in kind.

  19. Hah! The guy to the right of Simon McCullough ( 3rd from the left, back row) is Jamie McCormack. He's Royal Engineers, I think 18 years in & the sergeant on the front row is his Dad, who served with the Engineers in Northern Ireland & The Falklands (plus lots more I don't know of/can't remember) And the caption is wrong. W weren't air cadets, we were Cadets of the Prince of Wales own Regiment of Yorkshire, the same regiment I went on to serve with, however briefly. The little shady looking guy, second from the right, back row: I forget his name. It was David Verner.....he's now a multi-millionaire graphic artist & the kid 3rd from the left in the front row is Rob Holmes. Doing life for double murder. I had some......interesting......friends as a kid! Sorry for all the edits, memory's a funny thing! Sent from a mountain top, via telepathy.

  20. Picked this up from my FFL dealer yesterday. Scoped it today and shot a few factory rounds thru it and managed to shoot a 4.5" group at 750 yards with factory Hornady ammo.

  23. Did you get a gen3 or gen4? For me, the gen4 with no backstrap feels way better than the 3. The gen2 is my favorite, but you'd have to look for a used one to get that awesomeness

  24. I didn't buy any guns for over a year in order to save up for one. Best part is that I've been talking to my wife about the recent events and trying make up my mind between a .308 AR or an Ak47. Her response.....do whatever you want. Now that's a good wife! I missed out on a good Yugo but I did put a Wasr 10 on order.

  28. Seems to me if this is the case, then the labels shouldn't allow them to use their music. They have a choice I am guessing. I am sure it is complex, but I don't feel like I am stealing anything. This is now the way of the world. The labels will need to adapt like everyone else.

  29. I bought a husqvarna the same time I bought my house in 2014. It's cut down more trees than I can remember, took down the old deck with it, cleared trails on the acre + of woods I have. Lost count of how many tanks of gas have gone through it. It's never once faltered, starts first or second pull. It's model 240, so just one size smaller than the 435. For recreational use it's perfect. If I was doing commercial work, I'd probably invest in a stihl, but for working around the house the husqvarna is great.

  30. The software auto-saves when you are composing a public post but doesn't appear to do that for a private message. I can suggest it to the forum software authors as a possible future feature. Unfortunately no matter what time of day or night we choose to make updates, someone is going to be using the forum. There's never a "good time".

  32. I had to put my 2 cents in on this topic. I had the opportunity to handle and shoot the new Shield 45 when the S&W Rep brought one by Bud's in Sevierville and they have a real home run again with this pistol. The recoil management is greatly enhanced with the new grip texture. I would take this over the XDS 45 any day and I am long time Springfield fan.

  33. Look at the production cans. I don't know what kind of baffle design is used but the military issue Surfire SOCOM 556 suppressor is around 6" and 1.5 diameter. They have a version even shorter than that. I think 6-7" on a 556 should be sufficient with a 1.5" can.

  40. I have a Kamado Joe and my buddy has a BGE. Neither of us have taken ours in during the winter and haven't had an issue. If you go with a BGE or Kamado Joe, I highly recommend the Joetisserie. It is made by KJ, but it will fit either the normal KJ or Large BGE. This is a couple of chickens I did. Literally, best chicken I have ever had. Also, even if you don't have a KJ or BGE, the Kamado Joe charcoal is killer. I have tried others and my buddy has had his BGE for about 5 years and he agrees on the charcoal. You guys inspired me tonight. Time for a filet and asparagus.

  43. Some companies in the firearms industry will never cease to amaze me. I called RCBS this morning to inquire on a problem with my Rock Chucker and they are sending all the parts to rebuild it at no charge. I have had this press for 20 plus years. Sure would be nice if other industries would adopt this level of customer service.

  48. Old trigger holes from how it was imported are tig'd and cleaned up the mag block caused me to redo my right side sear hole so had it tig'd back up, cleaned up and redrilled Sure, I like to be creative. What's left of an AK sear I used to make the new sear for this thing. Biggest pain in the ass was the mag block. Holy crap batman... Close to 6 hours modifying it over and over again. Finally all cleaned up, mag block welded back in. No more rivets holding it in the receiver. The new trigger guard isn't here yet, along with the new stock. So I threw the old stock on and placed a grip next to it. Hoping they come tomorrow.
