  3. As of today, I have not used smokeless tobacco for four weeks. I had used it almost half of my 41 years on this earth, but decided it was time to quit. It has not been easy, but it has not been as difficult as I feared. I am over the physical nicotine withdrawal for a couple of weeks now, but the situational habit of having a dip in when shooting or going to gun stores or just driving is still very strong at times. I thank God, and my wife for encouraging, not nagging, me in this. If this is something you need to do, do it.

  6. My parents came in to visit today & surprised me with a gift with immense personal meaning to me. Today my mother gave me my grandfather's Remington 550-1, which he bought brand new in 1956 when she was only 4 yrs old. It's in new condition & he even kept the original hang tag from 1956. As you can see he took extreme care of everything he owned. That's how he lived every day of his life & I had a lot of respect for him. My grandfather was a veteran of WWII & served on the U.S.S. Mellette (APA-156) at Iwo Jima & Okinawa where he drove a landing craft. After the war he drove a truck for nearly 40 years before retiring & was an active member of our local American Legion, VFW, & the Shriner's until his death. He was married to my grandmother for 64 years, who is still active at the age of 95. Sorry to ramble, but he was a good man & it would take a book to describe him & his life. Sadly, he passed away Feb. of 2014 at the age of 89. This was an unexpected gift that will be cherished & eventually passed down to my children.

  7. I'm a huge Springfield Armory fan and just got an email announcing their new line of firearms. The marketing is pretty cool as well. Here's a link: https://www.defendyourlegacy.com/

  10. Oh man, those little .17s really get under your skin! I'm only looking to offload my marlin to upgrade to a .17WSM. Ballistics are spectacular compared to a .22LR, although even a gentle breeze makes 200yds seem like over 1k. Wind drift is murder with these rascals, but once you get your drops dialed in; saltines/charcoal briquettes at 200 are a blast!

  16. Doesn't bother me. XDs are I guess my main handgun platform, but I chose them because of dependability plus handling characteristics, and features that the Glock doesn't have. "Made in Croatia" was no more a detriment to me than "Made in Austria" at the time I bought my first one. And apparently unlike still lots of folks, I knew that Springfield Armory Inc. of Geneseo, IL had no real connection with the original Springfield Armory of Springfield, MA. - OS

  18. Elk and bison are two of my very favorite meats. I haven't had either in a few years though. Scratch that, I haven't had elk in close to a decade, had some ground bison maybe 5 or so years ago. Those are the kind of meals you remember for a LONG time. Tasty. Not sure how I feel about fast food takes on either ,or venison for that matter.

  19. Harwell is a simple problem to fix... just need to find somebody in her district with a last name that comes before H and primary her out... then let the democrats pickup that seat.

  20. They both looked...mediocre at best. But enough about the playing. Those uniforms were butt-ugly, for both teams. I don't know which was worst, the pukey baby blue; or the does this make my butt like big gold.

  21. If we don't demand accountability for her obvious crimes and for the vote fraud, the point is mute. Might as well just turn them in for obamacare gift cards.

  22. If you haven't seen B vs S, watch the extended version. It's much better. A bit longer, but does a better job of showing the characters and the depth of the struggles, both physically and emotionally, between them. I had few hopes for the movie, and I'm a die-hard comic movie fan. but this was more than just good, it may just have been the best Superman ever. Henry Cavell was fantastic in it. And as a pitch for his other work in The Man from Uncle was very good as well.

  24. Congrats! Every time you feel the urge put the money you would have spent on a can in a jug. By yourself some ammo or save up and buy a firearm with the money. Probably be amazed how fast that jar will fill up.

  25. The XD is not a terrible platform at all. The ergos are good and I've never had one that didn't go bang when I wanted it to. It's obviously a more complex design than, say, a Glock.. but more parts in a gun do not necessarily mean that it will be any less reliable.

  28. Good job! My fraternal grandparents used "chaw" and snuff. Remember those words? lol Neither one quite until their 70's. I was just a wee tike, but I remember the smells just about killed me. Anyway...Congratulations!

  31. I reckon not. I've had elk when I worked in Colorado many years ago and Bison. Both were very good. Only the Bison was in a restaurant though. Is elk still available in Nashville restaurants?

  35. Well if we are getting into particulars, the day I got married in Gatlinburg, that very night I was arrested in Alaska and jailed the whole time we honeymooned in Hawaii, which was 10 years after I supposedly bought $5k of electronics there. I have way more skills than I ever thought. LOL

  36. Holy shnikes! That thing looks more worn than mine! Lol! Thanks for the link, but I'm gunna pass on that one, especially at that price. :/ I am hoping to find some folks who juat have theirs in an old junk bin. I like the old Lee and have all the shellholders already. I don't really want to buy another brand's primer and then hafta get another set of shellholders, too.

  37. Thanks to divotmaker on here, I picked up an X95 this morning. Was up in the air on buying a bolt .338 gun over the past few weeks, then this little nugget popped up in the classifieds. No major mods going on it, drop in a trigger pack, pop on some optics and get a gas seal. yay.

  39. Here's proof to the Democrats that AK's can be used to shoot deer. This is an older picture of my brother and me in the early 90's when we went deer hunting. We didn't have deer rifles so we used our AK's . I had a MAADI (Egyptian AK) and my brother used a MAK90 (Chinese AK) to hunt with . My brother nailed a buck. It was a clean shot through the heart with his Chinese MAK90. His first deer and my first time gutting and butchering a deer. What an awesome time for us . It was 20 degrees when we were hunting and a few hours later it was 65 degrees. When I was butchering it , it was so warm the fat was foaming. Awesome time for us both . We aren't twins but we are very close. Just an awesome time and great food !

  41. A few recent shots.... These are from Oakes Farm in Corryton. My boys love it, lots to do and its not outrageously priced. I got a couple decent shots and a couple others that would've been great, had they been in focus. :-\ The servo mode and I weren't getting along that day. Seemed like it would hold focus exactly where I wanted until an instant before I pressed the shutter. I think I forgot to change it from evaluative to point focus, that might have helped. And from the beach a couple weeks ago....
