  2. Folks; I wanted to go ahead and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving as we head into the evening. This holiday some of you may be traveling. Others may be spending the weekend at home. Hopefully you find yourselves surrounded by people that you care about, whether they be friends, family, brothers in arms, or fellow emergency services crew. Whatever you're doing, I hope that you stay safe and have much to be thankful for. And since this is a firearms forum and since we think about and talk about things like this, if you are out and about this weekend... please be vigilant. As the saying goes, keep your head on a swivel if you are out at the movies, at the shopping malls, or anywhere else that there are large crowds. Watch what's going on around you and trust your instincts if something feels wrong or out of place. By all means, if you are able, carry your sidearm. And give serious thought to carrying some sort of personal first aid kit. If you've never considered the latter, maybe spend some time this weekend putting together something that would easily fit into a pocket, purse, satchel or backpack. Again, I hope you all stay safe and have time to reflect on the blessings in your own life. Hooray for the holidays and God bless. --David

  5. Back when I was growing up before moving south at age 17 we never had turkey. I was an avid hunter at a very young age and my state always had an early Goose season and I was responsible for our dinner bird and every year we ate goose. Sometime a Canada goose and sometime it was a Snow goose but goose was on our table. When we moved to the Ranch/Farm with my grand father the Thanksgiving dinner most times was a country ham out of Grandfathers smoke house with all the trimmings. Like some have mentioned my family was not much on turkey so when I had my own family it was a country with all the trimmings. Love the smell of a ham slow cooking all night in the oven. Makes the whole house smell great.............jmho

  11. My prayer tonight will be for a safe and happy Thanksgiving for everyone here and their families and for our country. I'll also be saying an additional prayer for those that are serving in the military and are away from their families keeping us safe here at home.

  12. Happy Thanksgiving to all the folks and folks families on TGO. Good advice David and thanks for another great year here on TGO. I plan on staying home with the mutt as I hate traveling on holidays. I'm sure family will stop in and see me as they always do and they always bring food. Some edible some not so much but I never tell them that. I don't want the edible stuff to stop coming...................

  14. Ugh...sometimes I hate how being responsible with money forces me to pass on a fantastic deal like this. Probably tied with that 9mm ammo deal for best value of the thread so far.

  15. PSA has posted their Black Friday optic deals. This particular one blows my skirt up. Aimpoint pro and 10 PMAGS for $432. You're getting a PRO for around $325. Hell I'd ask more my mine used If I sold it http://palmettostatearmory.com/aimpoint-pro-ten-10-magpul-pmag-30-5-56x45-magazines.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. If possible, find someone you know that reloads and get them to walk you through the basics. It will make what you are reading much more easy to understand. Barring that, or in addition to it, watch a bunch of YouTube videos of people reloading. This is just to better illustrate the process. Don't necessarily take anyone's word for what is right though. Always stick to published data. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

  17. I only deal with mutts and I do believe this gentleman is set on a "pure bred". I would strongly urge you to do your research in the process and make certain that you deal with a reputable breeder. Sadly the AKC backs a lot of puppy mills and supports them by not cracking down on them. I'd avoid any breeders out of Oklahoma and Missouri if possible because of that. Make sure you have full access to both parents and can view the whole property. Otherwise I'd stick to my recommendation of adoption. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue out of Nashville might have a golden. My local rescue only adopts to the north-east now so. All my pups went north or went to TGO members and one went to a neighbor of TDR.

  19. Opinions are great and all, but let's see some stats on constitutional carry states. No reason to speculate, since there are a number of them. I'll agree that training is always good. But, stupid kills, and it ain't always with a gun. Letting a kid get ahold of a loaded gun, and have it turn into a homicide is a special kind of stupid.

  20. Truly my favorite holiday. I hope each of you is able to enjoy the time with family and friends - either the family you were born with or the family you choose. I go into this holiday with profound gratitude for all the family and friends in my life.

  23. We'll be heading over to my parents house tomorrow after my morning deer hunt tradition with my dad. My mom's doing the turkey, dressing, eggs, gravy, beets and the whole spread....My wife's doing the banana pudding, pumpkin and chocolate pies. I'm getting hungry already! Especially after reading and seeing some of these posts. Thankful for so many things this year...

  25. Thought it was a good investment of time, travel and training. What I learned: I finished the timed drills before time was up, if I slow my roll my accuracy should likely improve. Learned some 3 yard accuracy shooting drills, can use live and dry. Should further improve my 20-30 yard shooting. Why I was a little trigger happy: After extensive dry fire in DA @6.5#, when I got to live fire in SA @ 3.5#, it was magic, that wanted to go fast. Made some new friends and Bob K is an inspiration, his stroke recovery is nothing but amazing - a testament to a commit to hard work, commitment to therapy and a positive attitude. For gear, I used my High Noon Upper Cut, a high riding AIWB. One of my favorites and a budget price point. Because of the belt loops on my pants, I couldn't position my owb mag holder where I wanted it, so I worked out of pockets, specifically my field coat with large square-cut flapped pockets. Had to slow down my reloads a bit to ensure a good grip on the fresh mag. On a side note, I test fired my M1 Carbine with new rail. Partial fail. Back to the drawing board. Consider training with Randy, he's a pretty good dude. I checked, been his client since June 2012

  28. If you've never heard of Dixie Gun Works in Union City Tennessee you may want to check them out. http://www.dixiegunworks.com/default.php?cPath=22_162_192 If your not comfortable ordering online it looks like about a 2 hour drive from your location. Now for some advice, get there early as this place is part museum and part retail so you may find yourself there longer than you think. Here is your warning, set a budget before you walk in the door as I've always walked out with stuff I never thought I wanted or needed but now I have them.

  32. For that price I'm tempted to get one and throw a conversion barrel in it. At that point it's essentially a 19 that could be switched back to .40 if ever needed.

  39. I love dogs but have had very bad luck with pure breeds. 50/50 dogs are the way to go. Short hair that doesn't shed like rain is a big plus. The best dog I have had the privilege of owning was a female that was 50% Chow 25 % Doberman and 25% German shepherd. She was about 55 lbs. and lived to be 16

  41. My youngest who's five was sitting beside me this morning while I was looking at this thread. He looked at this deer and said, "Oh man, dad. Mom and I saw that deer on the road the other day. I'm so glad your friend found it and brought it home."

  43. What's the worst that could happen....you end up quickly evacuating that big Thanksgiving meal and don't gain a bunch of weight. At least that's how I always look at the risk of a stomach virus. HBH is delicious, I would risk it all day long and twice on Thanksgiving.

  44. It will be slightly louder with the 2-1 than with the 2-2. The 2500 will have a single because contrary to popular belief 2-1 or 2-1-2 makes more power via scavenging and evening pulses than 2-2 (true dual). You won't necessarily have the rumble that a dual exhaust would have, or not what a lot of folks expect. I would think that the 18" would sound very similar in a single that a 14" would on a dual. Of course if you are changing just the muffler, sound is all it is about. There will be very little to no noticeable change anywhere else.

  46. Take your guitar to Dave Johnson at Carter Vintage in Nashville. He's an excellent luthier and worked at Gruhn for years as well. He does all my set up work. An excellent practice amp for the money are the Roland Cube amps. Excellent amps.

  47. Finally got on my laptop and was able to get the pictures uploaded. Also, pulled my card today and had several videos of this deer this week and hadn't seen him before. Pretty cool to see him. The first video I watched is in the morning while I'm in the stand and never knew he was around. The second video at 426pm is when he was coming toward my stand. So thankful for this harvest, he was a good lookin 2 1/2 year old. Nevermind, videos are too big. Maybe I'll upload them to my YouTube and post them later.
