  1. It's become a daily morning ritual for me to nuke two El Monterey breakfast burritos in the micro, anoint them with hot sauce and then sit down to blow reveille on my stomach with these tantalizing Mexican-style torpedoes. Sure, I enjoy an occasional feast of eggs and bacon with a side of flapjacks, but only when I've convinced the wife that it's her sworn duty to fix them. Besides, I'd rather wash only one microwaveable dish than to go out on cold wintery mornings to pour the grease into the ditch out back and then have to give the skillet a good scrubbing. In only two minutes and twenty-seven seconds, these egg, bacon and cheese delicacies are ready for lip service. I buy them by the 8-round sack, along with the Egg, Sausage and Cheese, or Meat Lover's variety and devote about a quarter of our refrigerator freezer to these yummy stuffed blankets. Since I've got one-third of my body's food requirements heavily invested in El Monterey, I thought it best to check up on the Ruiz family who makes these pick-me-uppers. They've been satisfying eaters like me since 1964, starting with a small mixer and Mama Ruiz's top-secret recipe in a 500 square-foot warehouse. Hard work, dedication and an uncanny ability to avoid ICE agents have kept this long tradition of wonderful south-of-the-border concoctions coming. But now to the real reason I'm posting: I checked the El Monterey employment opportunities on their website and found that the Denison, TX facility is in dire need of a Tortilla Thrower. Although no formal education is required for the job, it's not without it's demand for skills. According to the job description, the successful tortilla thrower applicant must be able to "put the tortilla onto the conveyor belt at the standard speed, according to size and weight of the product being produced." As arduous as this task sounds, bear in mind that the worker will not be responsible for consistently throwing the tortilla at high-speed conveyor belts. The Ruiz family doesn't run a sweat shop. But mere physical ability is not the only unique talent this champion of the workplace must possess. The successful employee must also "place all tortillas going in the same direction." Evidently it takes an incredibly trained eye to determine which end of a round tortilla goes in first. In addition, he (or she) must "know which side of the tortilla is the right side up." That will probably send at least 90% of the wannabes back to the street right there. But just in case a myopic pretender somehow gets through the cracks, the real professional tortilla thrower must painstakingly "remove all out-of-spec tortillas and know what an acceptable tortilla is." The deal breaker may perhaps be this last requirement. If you want to throw tortillas for Mama Ruiz, you should have one to six months of previous experience. She's not taking greenies. You might get by with an El Chico reference on your resume, but expect a rigorous training period before you start pitching for El Monterey. I'm sure You can see from these five tough requirements why Trump is adamant about keeping top tortilla throwers in this country and not allowing the Ruiz family business to move to Mexico. So, if you're in a dead end job and wondering if tortilla throwing is the challenge you need, why not give El Monterey a shot? Sure it's a big move to Denison, so you might try just commuting to Texas from Tennessee for awhile to find out if you have the right stuff for this demanding position. But remember....it's not for Eggo sissies. http://www.elmonterey.com/

  2. I am interested in this thread. I think building the room, ceiling and door is the easy part (materials), but how to apply HVAC to control the humidity along with my comfort and at the same time making sure the room is fireproof fox X amount of minutes/hours is my concern. This here is exactly what I want:

  3. Welcome to the wonderful world of gun laws in Tennessee. This vagueness is the reason I advised caution so strongly. It doesn't matter who tells you what now. You will be at the mercy of whatever government agent you come across out there in the wild. It's his interpretation and mood that's going to be the deciding factor of whether you get a "have a nice day" or a "you have the right to remain silent" or worse.

  4. There was a safe room in the basement when we moved in; cinderblock sides, poured on the floor and ceiling, but had two regular doors. Was going to seal one up and put a vault door on the other, but steel frame and security doors were cheaper and (in my opinion) just as effective in this situation since the good stuff is still in a safe anyways. Estimate for the one vault door and install was going to be $4000, then additional costs to block off the other. Two solid steel security doors with a 90 minute fire & smoke rating installed was $1700.

  5. As a quick update, all of these have shipped and the latest projected delivery on any of them is Saturday. Some of you will receive yours tomorrow (Thursday). To thank you for allowing me a few extra days to get them shipped, every one of them shipped with at least one TGO decal and one of the Shall Not Be Infringed decals.

  6. My wife and I have a contract on a home. It's a downsize one-level ranch that will be our last home...(maybe I've said that before...lol). Built in 1952, we will be doing some remodeling. The garage has been converted to a bedroom/bonus room. I'll put my safes in there for now, but we plan on building a garage. My question....has anyone built a room and used one of the 'safe' doors? Where did you find plans? Ideas? The lot is flat so it wouldn't be a basement. It would be in the garage addition. Poured concrete walls? Block walls filled with rebar and concrete? Approximate cost? Lots of questions. Any one here a contractor that has done such a thing? Pics? Thanks

  7. Started Saturday, been out of commission since Monday. Have (had?) Some deals I think I could have closed for a decent year end finish. Since there is not much that can be done to expedite the process, would you all care to pray for some healing? I don't usually subscribe to faith healing, but this really sucks.

  8. Been researching this myself- here is what i learned: There are three main vault door options: Browning and Fort Knox both make one, and you can also get a custom one from Smith Security Safes. The latter is the wider of the three and most customizable from dimensions to thickness to types of security features. Things to consider in a safe room: Make sure door swings in! Plan for hvac and think about running a drain into the room in case you want to run a dehumidifier. Also plan for electric and think about lighting plans. If the room is all concrete then i wouldn't be too worried about fireproofness [emoji106] Ask yourself - is the room just for storage or is it a "safe / panic room". If the latter you will want to think about ways to communicate with the outside world, possibly have a hidden escape route out of it? Hope this helped!

  10. I am thrilled to announce we picked up another stage sponsor! Carolina Smoke and Guns will be sponsoring Stage 5: Make the Shot When It Counts. They are donating a few Aero Precision lowers and possibly a pistol for the prize table. Be sure to visit and like their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/S2FCLLC/?hc_location=ufi or their webpage at http://starttofinishllc.com/ , thank them for their support, and give them a hard look if you're in the market for firearms, class III stuff, suppressors, holsters, accessories, or training! We still have three other stages available to be sponsored, and several obstacles. There's also some serious talk about a new obstacle that will be the most challenging yet: The Siren's song: 2/3 - 3/4 of the way through the course, when everyone is exhausted and really questioning why they do this to themselves (probably near the top of the big hill coming out of the cave), have a group of guys and pretty girls sitting around drinking beer/coffee/hot chocolate - heckling the people running by and trying their best to get them to quit. "Why are you doing this to yourself? If you'll just stop, you can sit down here, have a beer, and then we'll give you a ride back to the lodge where you can have a nice hot shower and good meal." Remember: in response to any ugly heckling including the words "fat", "slow", or "old", I've given the shooters permission and encouragement to issue a buttstroke to the offender. The whole point here is to encourage the people to quit, not to make them feel bad about themselves. What do you think???

  11. The 4" has been gone for years. That's why it's not mentioned on TWRA site. Things that are against the law are mentioned, all the things that are legal are not, except in a few cases for clarification, that's how statutory laws are written. The only proviso is "centerfire". You can go after bear with a .25 caliber 2 inch barrelled mouse gun if you like. Which would make hunting a lot more fair IMNSHO. - OS

  17. I'm with hlb14. I like multiples of carry pistols. I shoot the carry enough to exercise and force a cleaning. Run hard and put up dirty the range one. If same model there is no difference in feel or what to feed it. Seems logical to me if you shoot more than once a month. Poops and giggle pistols can be singles.

  19. The 4" barrel WAS the rule, but they did away with that a few years ago. Basically, you have to interpret the law as best you can, make an informed decision on the side of caution and be able to defend your actions logically. The safest course of action is wait until 21 and get a HCP. However, It seems clear to me that you're legal to have it in your legally owned vehicle now. It seems clear to me that you're legal to take it target shooting on private land. Camping and fishing have brought mixed interpretations, so to error on the side of caution says that law enforcement will have mixed interpretations there as well. In order to hunt hogs at all n TN you have to meet some requirements with the landowner also. I'd check into jumping through the hoops to be one of the people that can legally hunt hogs on your lease... that would give you the "incidental to hunting" argument. Otherwise, carrying a target, some ear muffs and target ammo with you when you go fishing might be your best option, lol.

  20. Good deal thanks, and thank you for the kind offer. I rarely make it that direction, but I will definately shoot you a message if I do.

  21. All those vague and conflicting answers implies there's been no significant case law to provide clear interpretation, which further implies there's been no prosecution of alleged violations, which yet further implies either there haven't been any citations issued, or there were plenty of other issues available for prosecution so they didn't bother with this.

  24. Aw, bud....while chemical preservatives may sound dangerous, let's not knock these tasty elements that appeal to today's adventurous connoisseur of frozen fast food delights. Sure, they're not for everybody's enjoyment (even though everybody eats them in one grocery commodity or another), but I personally know several junk food junkies who relish the taste of such tantalizing treats as Yellow Dye No. 5, sodium benzoate and various mouth-watering humectants. One even walks around happily chewing on assorted tantalizing flavors of xanthan gum. Consider that only 70 years ago when the food supply was pure, yet boring, the human life expectancy was a mere 45 years. Today, thanks to food preservatives, we might enjoy well over 80 years of day to day preservation while munching on a seemingly endless diet of chemical formulas. Why should health gurus recommend such idiotic menus such as a Paleolithic diet when the cavemen only lived slightly more than 30 years? But don't worry about me. The chili peppers in the Louisiana hot sauce that I lavishly spread across the burritos are guaranteed to burn out and kill each and every deadly molecule of unpronounceable additives that would normally deplete my nutritious supply of precious bodily fluids.

  25. A while back I traded some work for a 1974 '94, but then I saw a slightly newer, rougher one with a scope mount. I got it because it was a great deal (the guy swore he fired it, but the mag spring was TOTALLY missing lol). Now I can leave my nicer one is as is. I plan to use the other one when I need a brush gun. Money aside, having multiples makes life easier. Same parts, same function, and familiarity.

  26. I like to get there some day. I would like to start with 94s, but would also like to explore other Winchester lever actions and different calibers. I already have (2) 94s and one stray Marlin in the safe now. I am particularly fond of carbines.

  27. Lightweight rifles in cartridges like .243Win are handy and awesome. Lightweight rifles in cartridges like .300WM and 7mmMag are handy and brutal. Even .308 can sting a bit. I have a light little Remington 600 in .308 that felt like a really manly gun until I put a Limbsaver on it.

  35. I typically get velocities plus or minus 50 fps on my AR loads. I measure the powder on both the Chargemaster as well as an RCBS 505 beam scale. Some variation is bound to happen, and the extent to which you worry about it depends on the kind of shooting you do, and how anal you are about it I guess. And I did shoot my first chrono....it still amazes me how much it freaked everyone out at the range. Geez people, not like it was their chrono, or like it was ten thousand bucks.

  36. Of course. Which is why so many charge an outrageous fee or don't do it at all. You'd think they were all making a killing without it, too, 'cept that so many go bust over time. Obviously, no FFL must sell or transfer any gun to anyone he doesn't want to, short of a possible protected class situation. - OS

  39. After being stuck in a hospital for a while as an adult, I can only imagine how much it sucks being stuck there as a child, over the holidays, and possibly being underprivileged on top of all the other problems. Every year at Christmas I anonymously donate toys to the nearest children's hospital. This year, thanks to an awesome new store here in Fairview called "Dirt Cheap" I was able to buy over $1500 worth of new toys for $300 out of pocket. It was everything under the tree, except for a couple of wrapped presents in the back. You want something to hit you right in the feels? Try that out next year.

  42. I understand where you're coming from, except for me I'd say it's more of a strong preference for hammer-fired pistols than a dislike of striker-fired pistols. There's just something primal and satisfying to me about being able to cock and de-cock the hammer...hard to explain. That being said, I have owned several striker-fired pistols and despite my preferences, I've kept an XD-s in 45 acp and truly love it. So, it's not a hard and fast rule for me. Additionally, as CZ's self-appointed Number One Fan, I can't wait to get my hands on this P-10 and try it out.
