  1. I do IT. if it is connected to a computer, it can be hacked. I have enough issues cleaning up laptops, let alone trying to get a virus to let me turn back on my lights. It has always sounded like a neat idea to me, but the security guy in me won't let me do it. I know physical locks can be overridden, but at least someone has to show up at my place to do that.

  4. Eight years for $50.00 or $200.00 for lifetime once you come up for renewal.(must wait till 6 months prior to renewal if you currently have a permit) Got to live 32 more years to make that worth while...at 63 I think I will just renew at the end of the 7 years out I am.

  5. I have a few very old ones that belonged to my dad. They are not very collectible to anyone else because he used them everyday to cut off a chew of tobacco, clean his fingernails, shorten a gas line on the old car or boat or even cut a tomato for his sandwich. They are priceless to me however.

  6. Ok, I'm a CZ fan. I've been looking at the videos and reading the reviews this morning. I guess you could say I'm hooked. Barring something really off when I find one...It will most likely come home with me.

  7. We were at the Grand Canyon and came across a bunch of cars parked off the side of the road. Come to find out there were 3 cow and 1 bull elk that people were actually approaching as close as they could get to them to get a picture. I could tell the bull was on high alert and had his eye on one guy in particular. Lucky for him a ranger saw it too and got him to back off. These creatures are huge. They can kill you with one sweep of its antlers or a swift kick. In the Gatlinburg area we also see a bear or 2 wander into town on occasion. There are those that do the same and want a picture so they get as close as they can, some with their children, not understanding the danger even a small black bear can present. God bless them.

  9. Kills me how they kept saying thirteen guns like they couldn't believe they had such a big arsenal enough to arm an army lol! Probably would have acted less about ISIS stealing a Nuke. I guess if 13 is crazy most of us could arm a small country.

  10. I have compiled the information for a DOPE card with my .22lr trainer, but I've never done this before. If someone can review my process and maybe point out any areas I didn't think of I would greatly appreciate it. I gathered data in three ways. First, I shot groups at 30, 40, 50, and 60 meters to measure the actual bullet drop from my rifle. My rifle is zeroed at 30 meters. Second, I shot 10 rounds and recorded the velocities with my chronograph. Third, I plugged the numbers I had into the ballistic calculator from the Berger Bullets website. The DOPE card it spit out seems very close to my actual observed drop. I think the only things left to do is watch out for velocity fluctuations due to temperature variations and record the effect of wind. I also checked my scope for accurate tracking by doing a box test as well as just randomly twisting the turrets and then returning it to zero. I'm pleased enough with it's performance although an upgrade is in my future. Thanks for any help. http://

  11. Since Academy is in TN, the sales tax kicks it up to 19 cents /rnd. I'v fired a lot of Wolf 9 and never had a bad round so for the money I think those 72 round Sumoi drums will get the springs wound up!

  13. Great thing about the electronic locks is when they break, they just turn into regular locks - like an escalator.

  14. Well that all comes down to how you set the automation and the underlying technology up. In my case(complete overkill) I'm running a enterprise grade firewall with cisco and ubiquiti managed switches, and managed ubiquiti APs. The internet is handled through a dual WAN router so it split multiple connections all on a battery backup. Should comcast go out, DSL will take over for the time being, should DSL go out the verizon AP is there, should the power flicker the battery backups keep my network all just humming along. All of these small details make the entire house and internet within it, which so much relies on, dramatically more reliable than the average home, which in turn makes the automation far more reliable. Only thing it's really susceptible to is a long term power outage, not that most of the automated lights and such would be any good without power anyway. Now if I hadn't gone to streaming TV, running my own home server, IP video surveillance, working from home frequently, and automating damn near everything then spending what I did on "the internet" would be a waste of time and money.

  15. Well I dug up my old thread because I have the single action itch again. I never did get one because I kind of got on a black rifle and silencer kick there for a while , but I'm better now. I'll start out with a clone in 45LC with 5.5bbl until I save up the funds for a Colt This one? https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411539902 or this one (when it's back in stock)? https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411553504/A+UBERTI+345075+EL+PATRON+5.5.45+CC

If it's a wooded park, it could be a few un-related dumps from crimes committed. or...

  19. Good post, and I didn't fully understand till just now that the renewal price has actually been cut in half. That's never even been mentioned in any of the press about this. They were still charging 12.50/year, prorated from 2 to 7 years when they first changed it to coincide with DL. Now it truly is just $50 for 8 years, or 6.25/year. Also, just noticed that the whole idea of making it coincide with DL renewal has vanished, so that was several years of wasted effort. - OS

  20. @2.ooohhh That sounds pretty cool. The automated lights and such sound convienent. Way beyond my means, but cool. Like @Ronald_55, I suspect it would become a new way for my kids and dog to make me insane. I have had a programmable thermostat for many years and it's nice and helps keep the bills down.

  22. I watched a whole group of people crowd around the base of a tree at one point in Cades Cove to look at a Black Bear cub up in the tree. No one bothered to wonder how mad mom would be when she showed up and the cub was treed. I left before she showed back up. I like all my appendages minus the teeth marks.

  23. I don't use smart locks for exterior locks, EVER, but then I don't use locks from the local hardware store either. If concerned about security you need real locks. Other wise my home is smart as can be. My thermostats swing the temp from a standby to my preference when I'm about 10 min from the house. As I pull in the drive the exterior entry lights turn on and interior light begin to turn on in succession. The home audio plays my preferred station by time of day in the living room, kitchen, and the entryway.(typically the same podcast I've been listening to on the way home). The exterior landscape lights turn on daily from 15 min before sunset to 10:30pm. The home's core is on it's own security system that is isolated, but I've greatly extended it's range with outdoor smart sensors on the home automation as a first line of defense. The smart home monitors my shed, my screened porch, my driveway for vehicles, and my exterior garage area. Upon detecting motion if the wife and I are "away" it turns on lights in the effected area and shoots me a text message. If i'm home in "armed home" mode it ignores all the interior sensors but can flash my bedside light to indicate a car pulling in the drive or motion within 6 or so feet of my garage door. When the wife and I leave in the morning the vacuums run to clean the floor typically finishing about lunchtime. If I get home and head into the theater I can tell the echo in the theater to "turn on movie" and it dims the theater wall lights, turns off the ceiling lights, powers up the projector and changes the input on the processor to the apple TV. When I'm ready for bed I simply tell the echo in the bedroom "turn on goodnight" and it will turn off all the home's interior lights and set the security mode to "armed home". One that we have really loved is that if my wife is home in bed and I come home from the hospital late it will turn on my bedside light very dim, this both gives me light to get into bed but also lets her know that I'm the one making noise at the door, b/c if the system is armed and motion is sensed before disarm it flashes at 100% bright to wake us up. Not sure what phone OS your running but here are some of the apps/sites/hardware I've found useful. IFTTT, Skylark, Alexa, Smart Home, Smart Rules, SmartThings I have used and love all of these- Smartthings hub, been with it since I left wink, absolutely better with great API support-http://a.co/3iOIuRv In wall z wave dimmers great for theater lights if already wired-http://a.co/dCzTfPf Z wave micro dimmer, I often build these into antique lamps and ceiling fan lighting kits-http://a.co/7sFg7Nx Z wave micro smart switch, I often build these into fixtures such as ceiling fans for motor control- http://a.co/at5MFSD Z wave outdoor module(great for christmas lights)-http://a.co/1yfW25T Z wave door sensor-http://a.co/80RLnTX Multi Sensors Motion/temp/luminance for monitoring spaces-http://a.co/hAJkbi8 Smart Vac to keep the place tidy-http://a.co/ivm91AQ Echo dots for voice control/interaction-http://a.co/9qdLHgS Z wave Contactor Module for large loads(electric water heater, Pool pump ect)-http://a.co/hm5DLRa I want to try this- RGB strip light ballast with zigbee radio could be really cool in the theater but reports vary from finicky to near impossible to integrate, so I haven't devoted time to it yet- http://a.co/8hNhFUc These suck, I DO NOT recommend- GE link bulbs, were great out of the box but failure rate on the 10 or so I bought is above 50% inside 18 months!-http://a.co/iFUB62m Received this as a gift, worst HA product I've played with, is essentially a running joke in our household-http://a.co/afiA4Xn Wink Hub, I had a gen 1 it was completely bricked by a botched forced firmware update, kinda soured me from their hardware-http://a.co/aMBURoQ

  25. I called a dealer that I used to work at back in AL that is unusually good at getting hard to find, high demand items. He said he would let me know as soon as he can order one. Sootch announced on Instagram that he is working on a comparison video between the PPQ and the P10c. It's intriguing to hear but he always gives glowing reviews.

  26. I can remember editing the parameters and upping my internet speeds by a whopping 50%, that took me from 4kbps to 6 kbps. I remember starting a 1 meg downloads at night so it would be done in the morning, unless someone called then you had to wait another night. I thought I was in high cotton with I got my first US Robotics 33.6 modem, invited friends over to see the awesome speeds I was getting.

  30. 22Plinkster said BLACKHAWK! is a sister company to Savage. So I guess that makes sense business wise.

  31. I wonder if BLACKHAWK!!!!!!!!!! is also owned by Vista Outdoors, the parent of Savage Arms. It would make sense to co-brand in-house. And I agree... BH is just one step up from the no-name accessories on Amazon, imho. (And yes. I admit I have bought a couple of those no-name things off Amazon. Most weren't worth the cost of their free shipping, but I do love the angled iron sights I got for $21.)

  32. ohell hit the nail on the head... Plenty of choices... For easy carry on your person; ya cant beat the flat form semiautos... i carry one all the time... For a "real gun", as my 27 year old says; ya cant beat a big frame revolver or a big glock (...20, 21...)... We got 'em all... I tend to carry the big glocks or a Ruger SA in 44 special or 45 colt if im out riding around and feel the need for a "real gun"... Remember.. The best reload is a second gun... leroy

  36. I would! I really like my TP9sa. But...I like my Walthers and CZs as well. This trinity has all but benched my Glocks. The only one I even reach for anymore is my G24 for range time.

  40. High achiever. She simply wants both. The NBC job makes the other part easier. I can dig that. Seems to be the type that at this stage, 5 mil either way wouldn't make a diff. Hell, she gave up apparently quite lucrative legal career to start over in the first place. Plus, along with numerous other women, she deposed in the Gretchen Carlson suit and encouraged others to do same, so she's likely pretty disenchanted with the overall culture at FOX. - OS

  41. I have the RCBS one, which works ok but it does leave marks on the bullet if you are not careful. Before that I used the kinetic puller, which I still use if its just one shell that didn't make the cut, they work decently enough and usually no marks left on anything.

  44. TN now allows you to carry a loaded pistol in the car without a permit. My question is why is your company requiring you to have a permit, if the state doesn't care?

  45. Don't ask, don't tell. They have no legal right to demand a copy of your HCP. If someone willingly complies, it's because honest people want to be honest. Which in this case would be dumb. Do they keep a copy of your driver's license in the event that you want to park a car on their property?
