  1. Looking at the Colt website it was made in 1918. The brown spots on the front of the gun appear to be something like shellac and not rust.

  4. I had one like it in holster with dress linen I bought from an elderly gentleman in 1982 for $350. That was market rate at the time. My brother begged me to sell it to him so I let him have it for $350 and the condition that if he ever let it go I had first dibs to buy it back for $350. Two months later he called and said he had picked up a Colt Trooper (worth about $250 at that time). I asked what he gave for it and he said "I traded the Colt 1911 even up". I don't even miss him.

  5. Just wanted to post an update. I got back home to TN yesterday morning. No hassle at all at either airport. The folks at Southwest are always nice, and this was no different.

  6. So, I was in the market for a cheap coyote gun when this used Axis popped up. Crappy rattle-can stock, stock trigger (30lb of grit...) & factory Bushnell. Mind you, it was $200 so I'm not complaining & it came with 400 round of 50gn hollowpoints. Picked it up this morning & immediately decided it was too long &, well....normal. 12 o'clock & I get a 1hr lunch break so I figured "*%#$ it". Pulled the stock, removed the mounts & scope, whipped off the barrel, ran to a friend with a lathe, used said lathe to chop it to 16¼", turned a nice 11° crown, ran home, removed the trigger, replaced the stock spring, installed an over travel screw, polished the trigger & sear (3lb pull, zero overtravel. Didn't have time to fix the pre-travel. I'll live with it!), reinstalled it, screwed on the barrel, headspaced it, tightened everything up, scope on, stock on, loaded the mag & zeroed the thing (1½" high at 100yds, ¾"group) & STILL had time for a cheese sammich! Do THAT with your Remchester!

  9. They have been selling the 22 cans to dealers for 50 dollars. Several of those dealers have been posting on Facebook that they blew up the can with the first mag. Baffle strikes on a 22 are harder to notice. But what it boils down to is just horrible product QC. Also, the design is crap. You are stacking tolerances by screwing all of the baffles together. Its crap and its going to leave a lot of first timers frustrated and angry at the experience and they are likely to avoid NFA or at least suppressors altogether after that experience.

  10. On that front, manufacturers are already exploring additive manufacturing (3D printing) so I imagine it won't be long before plans for a disposable can make the scene.

  13. I've owned a Dan Wesson Pointman 9 and a couple of Rock Islands that shot 9mm. One RIA was a 9mm the other was a .38Super which I installed a 9mm barrel. Because the RIA 9mms work so well at the price point they come in at I would look no further unless you want one of the "mini" 1911 alloy 9mms. I found no appreciable functional difference between the >$1K DW PM9 and the RIAs.

  14. Finally found a holster that's comfortable. I tried many different types from hybrid to kydex and leather. For my build I had to settle with leather IWB. Settled on a DeSantis Cozy Partner IWB. I've been told to remove my pistol each night and let the leather dry out. And others say to remove it once a week or so and a wipe down is good? If it matters, my current carry is a S&W Shield in a DeSantis Cozy Partner. My question is: Do you remove your pistol from the holster each night?

  15. HB0040 would make the CONCEALING of a handgun without a permit illegal VS presently it is illegal to carry a firearm openly or concealed without a permit. That would put us in line with states like Kentucky and Louisiana where you can openly carry without a permit but if you choose to conceal you need a permit. SB0131 seems to be a more comprehensive bill that covers various aspects of weapons code. There are a lot of positive points in this bill. 1. Basically if you are legal to possess a firearm you can carry it openly or concealed without a permit. 2. The school weapons law is changed from prohibiting weapons at all public and private K-12 schools and colleges to just public K-12 schools. From what I'm reading private schools can stick up signs and it would still be a felony at that private school to carry, even with a permit. The change also makes the school weapons law apply just to the property owned or operated by the school....not the present mess of a situation where you can get a felony charge wherever there is a school activity say at the local park or theater. 3. The whole park weapons law is deleted. 4. Anyone can store a firearm in a vehicle parked in any location, such as school property, without worry of criminal prosecution VS situation now where you have to have a permit just to store firearms in a vehicle parked at a school or 'posted' property. 5. It looks like the 'no guns' sign law would be modified and require a local or state agency to hold public hearings before a building is posted 'no guns'. My view is these are both really good bills. I honestly would just go ahead and delete/modify the 'no guns' sign law to remove the criminal weapons charge and if I was really ambitious just totally removing the whole schools weapons law or providing an exception for people with permits on K-12 public school property. I would be concerned that if you have either constitutional or open carry w/o permit legalized, you're going to have a TON of no guns signs that could hit people with weapons charges. I'd be proactive and remove that 'no guns' sign weapons charge from the code.

  18. I'll try and get this back on track with a gun trade. At a gunshow a few years back I was trying to sell my very first handgun (Stupid, stupid, stupid) A West German Sig 226. A guy offered me a Bersa 9mm for it. Straight trade. It was all I could do to keep a straight face. I ended up selling for cash and to this day, I regret it. It wasn't in great shape but it was my very first. Ended up finding another West German 226 a few years later in better shape and equipped with Siglites for nearly the same money.

  20. Btw, while the cops and TSA were distracted by me and my novelty set of brass knuckles, the girl I was flying with got her stun gun through TSA without a hitch in her purse.

  21. I went to take a look at a used intake for sale on CL. I knew how much they were new, $110 so I figured I might get a deal. I show up and take a look. It has a few helicols in it which I don't mind if the price is right. He said he wanted $150. I said they are like $110 new. He responded with a diatribe of how he broke it in and how that cost him a lot of gas. He also said he had to buy the helicoils after he stripped the threads and those weren't cheap. I offered $50, which was more than it was worth, and boy was I glad when he refused.

  25. That's IF though. The Rebel is most likely the lowest of the low as far as quality goes. Double the price(roughly)and you have a lifetime supressor from numerous manufacturers. As to cheap and disposable, if not NFA and I can legally build, I'll have a stash of homemade supressors. Hell, I've already got 9 form 1's.

  28. That happened to me once also. I was going to the courthouse for my divorce and my lawyer walked through metal detector and I hesitated. I looked at my attorney and he knew right away what was happening. He explained to the Dupties at the gate what was going on. They just told me to take it back and lock it in my vehicle and come back in. I did and went right through....................one of those moments.

  30. My first pistol was a Sigma 9mm. Only had hunting guns before that. I thought it was fine until the Internet told me it was crap. Seriously, I didn't have anything to compare the trigger to so I didn't know. I had no problems other than that. Never malfunctioned at all. Traded up in guns later on. Later I found a smoking deal on a SD9. Didn't even know S&W had updated the series. It was a much better gun. I couldn't really fault it for anything. One of the best values out there.

  33. I'd really like to find a really good deal on a model 11/111 pre-accutrigger (or post if the price is right) and then order a Criterion and Boyds tactical. Rob, I might have to work out something with you or get instruction on trigger work if I find a pre-accutrigger. Not sure on caliber... 6mm 8 twist or 6.5mm variant maybe? First things first, I need a donor rifle.

  34. I remove my G23 frequently, sometimes daily. The biggest problem is dust bunnies. I swap between IWB and OWB depending on the daily routine. I haven't had any corrosion issues, just dust or belly button lint or whatever you want to call it. It comes from clothes like tumble weeds. Dont be too complacent with your carry piece, even if it's a Glock! Clean it!

  40. And if silencers are considered firearms then integrally suppressed pistols would be for sale. Maybe the HPA has been in the works for a while, long enough for SilencerCo's Maxim 9 to be dreamed up and produced.

  41. LOL. Same here Randall! I unholster several times a day. Done safely, appropriate backstop etc. It's free drawstroke practice. I use my carry gun as my "nightstand" gun lying beside one of my Surefire's. I have my jeans on a chair at bedside with holster, spare mags, flashlight, BOK, cellphone, BUG etc. If, God forbid, there is a fire or other emergency and I need to unass the area quickly, then I'm ready. We have 2 small yappy and territorial dogs that sleep in our bedroom. Their hearing is better than mine!

  43. I'd go ahead and do so but I'd also consider taking a duplicate or lesser used carry pistols to store at your parents house for future trips. Then you have even more of an excuse to take advantage of visits there w/o the concern of theft from baggage.
