  1. You know, if he could just filter out some of the casual commentary he could be a lot more effective. It is as though he's trying to push the more fact based voters away. And I'm not talking about alternative fact lovers or fake news victims. I'm talking about those who object when they hear from his mouth stuff that is simply false. I won more EC votes than anyone except Reagan. No you didn't. Well I meant the most of any Republican. But you didn't. Well I saw it somewhere. Why does he do that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Was Sunday gun day, so we decided to race on a dueling tree. .50 bmg vs. AK @ 100 yards It was his tree, he conceded after my first shot because, well, it sort of flipped the tree over, torqued the arm and there wasn't going to be much left after the first round In other news, whatever material these little spinners are made out of is amazing. Said it was .50 rated, I called BS. The company was right, barely even left a mark on the darn thing.

  6. This is how the conversation goes when the subject is brought up with loss prevention. "Company policy prohibits keeping firearms in the truck, but nobody here is going to search your truck. Let me repeat that, NOBODY here is going to search your truck."

  11. So, it seems a group of historians has ranked Obama as the 12th best president in history. Of course that same group of historians rank a president who pretty much single-handedly destroyed much of the Founders' vision of what the country and Constitution should be as number 1 - above even Washington and Jefferson - so I guess it isn't too surprising. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/c-span-survey-obama-12th-best-president/ar-AAn3LK0?OCID=ansmsnnews11 .

  13. I've had my current Ruger Mark II for going on 20 years and can only take a wild guess at how many rounds have gone thru this lil work horse of a pistol. All I know is that there were some summers where it saw a 550 round box of Federals EVERY single weekend. Conservatively I'd estimate it's about 5K rounds/yr, so I don't have a damn thing to complain about. You can't put that many rounds thru any gun without replacing a worb out spring here or there. I've also upgraded to a set of Hogue target grips, Volquartsen extended mag release, and FO front sight. Every other part is original. Yesterday I was indoctrinating a co-worker from CA, err, introducing a first time shooter to the wonderful world of firearms and of course the Mark II comes out first. We put about 400 rounds thru the old gal with zero issues. However, when I got home to clean it, the mainspring was stuck. It took me about 30 minutes to take it apart (this was the normal reassembly time back when I first got the gun and there weren't such thing as a YouTube video to show you how to do it right). I found that the bolt stop pin had broken just above the mainspring. The bottom part is still attached to the mainspring by the pivot pin. I'm guessing the love taps with a rubber mallet over the years to unjam the mainspring or align the bolt stop pin holes finally had their toll. I'm not whining, the replacement parts are $15 including shipping from Ruger. I just thought after all these years this thing was indestructible.

  14. That will take time, and even then, it will need to be something so big it forces the House of Representatives to vote for it. That's not happening until the approval polls for President Trump are low and the GAF factor about it starts changing in their districts.

  20. Went to a gun show today near where I live. And as we have all seen or done, people carrying guns for sale. Which I support, but this guy had a lever gun slung over his shoulder with his finger on the trigger the whole time. I'm sure they checked at the door that it was unloaded but it was unnerving to see. Anyone else ever run into this? It goes without saying I kept my eyes on him the whole time.

  26. Nowhere is there more "I thought" and "they said" than in firearm/weapons stuff, and especially firearm law. The only DOT related firearm/ammunition laws/regs you will find is in regard to hauling them as cargo. As often as has this come up on TGO, I'm surprised that any long timer here still doesn't know it, really. Um, Mikey. And yes, a hammer can indeed be considered a weapon, same as a baseball bat or tire iron, depending, right here in TN, but doesn't have anything to do with DOT or other federal law. - OS

  28. Common misconception -- totally false. Individual's firearm possession in commercial vehicles is totally up to individual state laws, and/or federal law regarding on some properties, same as possession in private vehicles. It's true that most carriers prohibit it as employment policy, including for owner operators under lease. - OS

  30. I don't think you taking it apart with a mallet had anything to do with it. That pin takes a recoil hit from the bolt body on every shot. Being a hardened part, constant battering can over time make the metal crystalline. When that happens, you get what you have there, a clean snap. They are great pistols indeed. Back in the 80's I sold a 5.5 bull barrels one to a friend of mine who was an exceptionally good shot. We used to hang bulls eye targets on a single finishing nail. I had worked the trigger on that Ruger for him and once he got the hang of it, I watched him drop 3 targets off the board by taking the nail out with one shot, off hand, open sights, 30 feet! God, I wish I could have done that with my High Standard... or with anything for that matter. Some folks just got it like that!

  33. Yeah I think you're right. And I too would have gotten my ears boxed for that. At least some people still train the young the right way. While I was there I heard a father instructing his son about this very thing. Too bad the guy with his finger on the trigger didn't hear him.

  37. I've not done any business with Home Depot in quite a few years but went to one in town today looking for a battery powered leaf blower since they had several models on sale. I'd gone to one of the Lowes stores yesterday and been disappointed at the lack of selection and no one offering to help me. Today what I later learned was one of the store managers noticed me trying to find a product in the lawn equipment section and asked me if I needed help finding a product. When I told him what I was looking for he took me straight to them, discussed product selection to me an noticed a better sale item on a better product then I was looking for and pointed it out to me. I was impressed that someone knew how to do their job. Then when he found out I was looking for a small gas grill he told me he had just what I needed and took me to a grill they weren't going to carry this season that had already been marked down to $149.00 and offered to let me have it for $100.00 if I wanted it. Then he and another employee loaded the grill and leaf blower into the back of my truck while I placed items in the cab. Needless to say I appreciated it and asked if he was a manager and confirmed I'd guessed correctly. I remember when customer service was awful at that store so I'm glad to see it doing better. I also remember when customer service was better at Lowes and hope to see it improve.

  39. My interactions at Lowe's have been negative the past few years but have been good at Home Depot. I like talking with the older guys working there and usually give me good ideas or take me right to what I'm looking for even if it isn't in their section. I made the mistake of stopping by the Lowe's on Dickerson Pk one day and needed to rent an auger and they were clueless one even tried to charge me extra for the blade until I called her out.

  44. Some striker fired systems are different. Most are a partially pre cocked striker. A couple exceptions are the P99 as previously mentioned and the XD is a true single action striker fired as opposed to the Glock. Others may be different as well.
    1 point
  45. I consider the Walther P99 a double action striker-fired handgun, as does Walther in the specs. It may not have a hammer, but it can be decocked, and the trigger pull weight and length are cut in half when it's in single action. The patent paperwork clearly shows it's supposed to be over.
    1 point
  46. Disagree with Glocks or any other striker-fired handgun being considered double-action. Lazy gun magazine scribes tried to force striker-fired handguns to fit into that box an finally gave up and resorted to calling them Striker Fired to distinguish them from SA and DA handguns. I understand where you are coming from, but it was messy back in the day when the industry tried calling them that and thankfully most folks moved past it. Then of course there are the companies that tried using the term "Safe Action" and just confused it further. Striker-fired actions are a variation on Double Action Only if you choose to look at it that way, but they lack two of the resets that are hallmarks of DAO. But hey, look at the bright side: We can add this to the things that folks can debate ad-nauseum, like: 1911 vs Glock 1911 vs Anything Glock vs Anything 9mm vs 45ACP Toilet Paper: Over or Under
