  4. To answer your question about zeroing at 100 vs. 200 yards, that won't buy you extra elevation adjustment (unless the zero-stop shims on your scope are artificially limiting the range of adjustability; I'm not familiar with the details on that particular model). You'll still hit the limit of adjustability at the same point. If you need more elevation adjustment than your scope will allow, then you'll need to change the scope mounting base to a higher or lower angle so that the scope gets back into its range of adjustment. The distance that you zero at is mostly just a nice reference point to base your calculations on for different distances. You can zero at 100 yards, then use your D.O.P.E. notes to calculate come-ups for further distances. Or, you could zero at 1,000 yards & use the same notes to calculate come-downs for nearer distances. Or zero anywhere in the middle. Use whatever makes the most sense to you. One caveat is that if you're using a BDC reticle & want to use the BDC markings, you'll need to zero at the distance that the BDC was designed for. Realize though, that (unless you have a very specific BDC designed just for your load) BDC reticles are by nature somewhat generic, and may or may not have the accuracy that you need for what you want to do. If you'd like some more information on long-distance shooting, look up "Ryan Cleckner NSSF" on YouTube. Ryan did a series of short videos for the NSSF on the fundamentals of long-range shooting, and they're really good. Ryan also has a book on long-range shooting that I highly recommend. You can find it on Amazon.

  6. UPDATE apparently the lawyers in Germany took care of all the paperwork as my friend received a crate of personal items at customs. After signing a pile of papers he opened the crate and the mosin was included. I haven't seen it yet but he did say the front stock has been cut off. Cool to have a wwII rifle that you know the story.

  8. Well, after two months, some very good news. I took Ellie back to the breeder with no expectations, but low and behold they went above and beyond and did the needed surgery to fix Ellie's heart murmur. I just brought her home for the second and last time. She cleared 3 different vet's with no sign of the murmur. She should lead a long, normal life with no side effects. It's pretty remarkable what they can do these days. Here she was at 8 weeks. And today at just over 4 months.

  9. Hey guys, Possibly picking up a 9mm carbine in the near future, what are your guys suggestions for a 9mm suppressor? I already have a 30 cal and 22, so it doesn't HAVE to be a multi use unit. Requirement order: 1. Hearing safe. Doesn't have to be Hollywood quiet but something in the 130db would be more than adequate. 2. Price. I already have a SBR 300blk that is scary quiet. Something 3. Size/weight/material 4. QD vs direct thread. I have used both and while a QD is nice to have, it is less important than the three above The short term plan is that this will live exclusively on the carbine. Sometime in the future I may put it on on a 9mm pistol. I haven't fully decided if I want to invest in a barrel for my g19 yet. Also, would it be better to go ahead and go with a 45cal silencer so I could run more than a .357 bullet through it? Thanks, Dallas Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. MCTS will be hosting a Defensive Carbine & Action Pistol match this Saturday at our Dickson range. I have 6 fun and challenging stages planned at a minimum of 119 rounds. Setup starts at 7:00 am with Shooters meeting at 8:45. Rounds down range at 9:00 am. Hope to see you there.

  11. While my Hustler raptor may not be a pro machine, it's already paid for its self twice. When the time comes I may buy a nicer replacement, but then again maybe not. I'll guess that it will last 5 or more years at my current usage. If the pay back is one year or less considering the cost of paying for mowing. It's a steal. I've had good luck with mine so far. YMMV

  13. I just bought a Yamaha FJR, but in the process I looked at the BMW GS bikes. I am almost 6'2" and couldn't hardly get my leg over them. It was crazy to me how tall they were. I don't know how some shorter guys ride bikes like that. I can sympathize with your issue.

  14. Guessing your gonna get into the trails with that thing. I picked up a klr650 and love the thing. It was a bit tall and I've lowered it enough for me but don't know about those tight trails the WR guys are all over. Yours is definitely light enough for a hitch hauler. If you go that route it's much easier to load by yourself.

  15. Yamaha lists the wheelbase as 53.5". Front wheel is 21". Rear wheel is 18". Half of each wheel sticks out past the "wheelbase" measurement. So we will add 10.5" for the front and 9" for the rear. That gives us a new figure of 73". I'd say you add another 5 or 6 inches for tires unless you air down and you are still well under the 80" mark. This is just a highly uneducated guess.

  17. Check in on the XT forum, I'll say Hi there... http://www.xt225.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm Ive got an '06 225 and have been very happy with it. As for hauling it, I'd guess it'll fit with the bike diagonally and steering at full lock, but the rear tire will sit on the tailgate. I doubt you'll be able to fit the bed extender around it. As long as you've got a couple straps pulling forward and down, it'll be fine. Renting or borrowing a small trailer is also a good option, I have one. The bike is light enough that you could also use a hitch hauler without much issue as well.

  18. Nice bike, good luck with the deal! I can't help you with specifics but I can tell you that a yz250 will fit in the back of a Subaru Brat with a 4'bed. Tailgate down and the bike in diagonally. I miss both of those!

  19. Caliber, like everything else, is application driven. If the manufacturers would start making a 158 gr. 357 Magnum Rimless JHP; it and a .22LR would cover all my handgun needs. Until then a .40 S&W and a .45 ACP will be required. But no, they waste their time with nonsense no one wants like .45 GAP, .357 SIG, and 10mm.

  22. My subsonic rounds are under a nickel a shot. I cast everything I shoot so the only cost I really have is the primer at $100/5000 and the ~8 grains of powder. Been working with the 300 Blackout since before it was a caliber. Have a couple of successful bullet designs with a third on the way. Newest one is a 265 grain behemoth that will feed from a magazine and is stable in anything 8 twist or faster at subsonic speeds. Get it to ~1,100 fps and it is stable in a 10 twist. It also uses about 1/4 less powder and that means your silencer has less gas to deal with so your gun is quieter. And single shot loads are magical in how quiet they are, most people think it is a misfire without ears on. The bullet was designed around the 300 Blackout rather than trying to find an off the shelf solution. We are getting 1.5 MOA groups WITHOUT load development. Several testers think they will get them to shoot MOA with a little work.

  24. I've only had to go to the one in Harriman so far, so maybe that's why, but OMG you folks have NO idea! Coming from NY, the DMV down here is a downright PLEASURE to do business with! The people speak ENGLISH! There's no urine on the floor! Processes are simple, fee's reasonable, paperwork is NOT written in 22 other languages, you don't feel like an international traveller in the waiting area, and you'll be spoken to politely and with respect! Never once had that experience in NY, you've really got it great down here, trust me! - K

  25. Oh, I agree. I have a bunch of handguns, and all my semis are 9mm. Even two of my revos will do 9mm. And two 9mm long guns. So there, that proves it, eh? - OS

  26. Nice little gun, especially for under $200. I've owned one for years. Unlike some of the small manual safety guns, the thumb safety is big enough to reliably hit every time.

  32. So, the Ruger FSB is pinned like an A2? A2 blocks are HARD to get off. I have ruined some tools with them. Can't imagine one falling off if they used taper pins, unless they just forgot to drill and pin the gun
    1 point
  33. Hardly any of that makes any sense. - this just happened to occur on the very last shot the guy took during first range session? - gas tube retaining pin is somehow just "gone"? - there's not much that is more solid than drilled FSB pins Meaning, methinks somebody tried to "customize" his rifle. I remember a guy who brought his AR to range one day when me and Dolo were there. Wouldn't fire, meaning, you couldn't pull the trigger. Swears it's brand new, just took it out of the box, hasn't done a thing to it. Oh, well, finally he mentions he did "only" change the pistol grip. Duh, okay, found selector spring up in receiver all snarled into safety/trigger, can't remember where/how the detente was found. - OS

  34. That's a good deal. The bottom has completely fallen out of the black-rifle market thanks to manufacturers betting on the wrong outcome of the 2016 Presidential election. They overstocked expecting a panic, and no one panicked when it wasn't Hillary that won. Thank God, but wow it's caused a weird ripple through the firearms industry! Of course that should make all of us contemplate just how badly we were taking a bath on AR-15 prices for the past 8 years.

  38. No I had not. Actually I had never seen one. It looks like the way they load sets them apart. They look nice, but as small as my budget is, I have to look at good guns not top shelf niche models. I am glad you guys have the cash to lay out for some of these. Hopefully some day I will. Right now, when I buy, it is to vary the depth of my stock more than for a specific gun. I am covering the basics you guys probably already have in hand. My mention on the Henry gun is an overall impression I have of Henry. They are nice guns, but all their models are expensive. Just my opinion. Like the old saying goes....it is worth about as much as teats on a boar.
    1 point
  39. The problem with Henry is that this single shot is over $400. To me that is way too much for even a nice new single shot gun. If CVA is their big competition, then they beat Henry by 50%

  40. Happy New Year, my friends! Prior to the Christmas holiday, I posted a WTB ad on various forums with hopes of finding an Egyptian military butt stock. I need it to begin the de-ban process for my recently acquired Intrac Maadi. I received a message for a complete stock set days after the Christmas holiday. The seller had six stock sets at one point. He originally set it back to use for a future project but it never materialized. Fast forward to this week, I received the stock set and my rifle is one step closer to being liberated from its post-ban configuration!
