  6. I consider myself pretty computer literate and they don’t seem to make sense to me. It appears when you post you create two separate threads. I’m usually all for change and new stuff, but I don’t like any part of the new forum software. The last version before it went to the bar with all the “read status” and “ownership” was the best. Activity in the classifieds seems to me to have really dropped off, but maybe not. I just figure it will eventually move to the next version and this will be in the past.

  10. Just picked this 1954 Colt Sistema. The Argentine Colts have an interesting history. They are generally considered the only 1911 made outside of Hartford that is still a colt. Here is some background taken from various reference books. In 1923, Argentina adopted an armaments bill that would eliminate Argentine dependency on foreign arms. Under this bill, the Argentine Congress authorized appropriations for a military modernization program and prepared the infrastructure for a domestic arms industry. In accordance with the new law, an aircraft factory was established in 1927, a munitions factory in 1933, a small steel mill in 1934, and a small arms factory in 1936, all of which were managed by Argentine army officers. In 1927, the Argentine Commission for Foreign Acquisitions negotiated a contract with Colt for the manufacture of M1911A1 .45 caliber self-loading pistols specially marked and serial numbered in a separate series, and secured a licensing agreement giving the Argentine government the right to manufacture these pistols. The agreement specified: 1) that Colt would manufacture 10,000 Colt automatic pistols, caliber .45, “Ejercito Argentino Modelo 1927,†for the Argentine Army; 2) that the complete knowledge base for future production of the pistols in Argentina, including drawings, manufacturing instructions, material specifications, tool requirements, etc., would be transferred to Argentine control; and 3) that Argentine technicians would be trained in manufacturing operations and inspection. For production of Colt 1911A1's in Argentina, Colt engineers supervised the set-up of the production equipment, which was acquired from the Fritz Werner company in Germany, a maker of arms-manufacturing machinery still in business today. From 1927 to 1942, 14,000 Sistema pistols (from “Sistema Colt,†indicating “made on the Colt system (machinery)†were produced at the Esteban de Luca Arsenal in Buenos Aires, S/N’s 10,001 – 24,000(*), the serial numbers continuing from the Hartford run. In 1941, after a decade of planning, Argentines established a large and diversified military-industrial complex under the overall supervision of the Direccion General de Fabricaciones Militares (D.G.F.M.), the “Military Manufacturing Agency.†Similar to the US Ordnance Department, the agency was run by the military and military officers managed the manufacturing plants. Among other products, this agency would eventually, through contractual agreements, oversee the production of identical copies of Colt’s M1911-A1, Browning’s Hi Power, and FN’s FAL rifle. In 1945, after construction of the state-owned Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles (F.M.A.P.), “Small Arms Factory†in Rosario, Santa Fe (250 miles from Buenos Aires), assembly of Sistemas was transferred to the new plant and another 88,494 pistols were produced through 1966. This factory was named for Domingo Matheu, a 19th century military official who was active in the early development of the nation’s arms industry. Today FMAP manufactures a wide range of small arms and ammunition and is known in the industry as “FM.†The Rosario arsenal closed in 1991 and much of its production was transferred to FMAP’s Fray Luis Beltran arsenal, about 15 miles from Rosario. Sistema Colts were manufactured in accordance with Colt's 1927 drawings. They were identical to US military M1911-A1 pistols except for 6 minor cosmetic differences, and parts were interchangeable. The differences were: a) the markings, the grips, c) a black oxide bluing, d) a sharp edge on the rear of the hammer, e) a sharp edge on the heel of the grip safety, f) indented checkering on the mainspring housing. They made these for various military, government and police agencies. The ones with the Argentine crest were made for government agencies. This on is Stamped C.F.S. That stands for Consejo Federal de Seguridad or Federal Council of Security/Safety(Federal Internal Security). Other markings include the Army, Air Force, Navy and Border Patrol. This one has the wrong grips on it. I do have a period correct set of grips on the way. Other than that it is pretty great shape. Tight fit and feels just like a Colt as it should. I gave it a good cleaning and just need to get it out to the range.

  12. I posted a video here a few years back that was really too dark to see. I shot a new one this weekend. I hope this helps some people. One more note that I should have mentioned when filming. If your pistol still has a magazine disconnect, then you will need to reinsert your magazine when pulling the trigger. Otherwise, the hammer won't move where you need it to.

  13. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/05/15/second-amendment-case-peruta-vs-california-may-be-heading-to-supreme-court.html Published May 15, 2017 FoxNews.com The Second Amendment is only 27 words, but Americans have used millions of words arguing over what it means. It guarantees “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.” But which people, what arms, and under what circumstances? Two milestone cases involving the Second Amendment that reached the Supreme Court are District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), declaring an individual has a right to own a firearm, and McDonald v. City of Chicago (2010), affirming the Second Amendment applies to state law. WHY JUSTICE GORSUCH WILL HAVE AN IMMEDIATE (AND BIG) IMPACT ON THE SUPREME COURT Now, if the Supreme Court decides to hear it, there may be a third major case in a decade: Peruta v. California. At issue is the right to keep and bear arms outside the home. The Heller case specifically applies to situations within the home. Those who have petitioned the Supreme Court to hear the case are hoping the justices will see it as a logical extension of their earlier opinions. The case arose when Edward Peruta and other gun owners who lived in or near San Diego, Calif., couldn’t get concealed-carry permits in their county. The Sheriff’s Department handles permit requests and requires “good cause” to carry a gun outside of the home. This does not mean a generalized concern for safety, but something specific, such as fear of domestic violence or a regular need to move large amounts of money. If the Supreme Court decides to hear it, there may be a third major case in a decade involving the Second Amendment. (Reuters) There were two separate lawsuits challenging the interpretation of “good cause,” but the district courts found no violation of the Second Amendment. CALIFORNIA CONCEALED WEAPON LAW TOSSED BY FED APPEALS COURT Then, in 2014, a three-judge panel on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that the policy did indeed violate the right to bear arms for self-defense. The state, however, got a new hearing in front of 11 9th Circuit judges, who decided 7-4, the restrictions for concealed-carry permits were allowable. The case has now been appealed to the Supreme Court and though the Justices have rescheduled its consideration several times, some experts feel the court is finally ready to hear Peruta. “I suspect they’re going to grant it,” said John Eastman, former law dean at Chapman University and the director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence. Eastman told Fox News, “it’s percolating all across the country.” He also feels the justices may have put it off while waiting for a full complement on the court, which they got when Neil Gorsuch was confirmed last month. Gorsuch, in fact, may be the justice to tip the opinion in one direction or the other, as previous Second Amendment cases were determined in a 5-4 ruling. According to Eugene Volokh, professor of law at University of California at Los Angeles, this case is primed for the Supreme Court, as it deals with a basic constitutional right and “the lower courts are split on the issue.” It would be a good time for the highest court to step in and settle the controversy. He also feels that while no one is sure how Gorsuch will vote, there is a “sense that he’s sympathetic to a broader view” of the Second Amendment. The case may turn on how the court frames the issue. To Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California Irvine School of Law, the legal question to be settled is whether a state like California may determine its own rules on concealed-carry permits. “The Second Amendment isn’t an absolute right,” Chemerinsky notes. Throughout British and American history, “there’s never been a right to have concealed weapons.” But Eugene Volokh believes there’s a bigger issue at stake. If the state of California, which essentially bans open carry of a gun, makes it next to impossible for a typical citizen to get a concealed-carry permit, this is “tantamount to banning” the right to bear arms “except for a few favored people.” Experts agree on one point. As Chemerinsky puts it, if Peruta is taken up, “no matter what the Supreme Court says, it will be a landmark decision.”

  14. I do not think people had to go through metal detectors to go to the BBQ competition. It is in a park so you should be legal to carry. If you go to Beale Street in the daytime, you don't have to go through metal detectors. The Gibson guitar museum is there. Go check out the lobby of the Peabody Hotel and have a snack. The zoo would be good to go to. You can also drop in the Brooks Museum by the zoo. The Pink Palace is also good to see. Bass Pro in the Pyramid has a nice observation deck that you can see all around the river area. Overton Square has some good restaurants. There are a couple good breweries in Memphis that offer tours.

  21. We used to see this when my Papaw had bees. Sometimes they would swarm and leave or sometimes he would go to someones house to cut a swarm out of a tree to bring to an empty hive. It used to be pretty common when bees were way more plentiful.

  35. That goes both ways, there are plenty of blacks that get a pass because of the perceived discrimination they may of experienced. There are many "shops" that have a large percentage of blacks, but nobody complains, but let it be the opposite and all hell breaks loose. You remember the big to-do about the grammys, or the academy awards?

  36. I got some Federal 9mm HST 147 gr +P last week...but I was recovering from knee surgery and had to wait until yesterday morning to try it out in the SCCY. I only ran 2 mags (20 rounds) of the HST as my range time was limited. The SCCY fed the 2 mags without issue. The surprising thing was it grouped 3 rounds into a small cloverleaf at 15 yards. This particular gun shoots about 6" high with the 147's at 15 yards (for me). Needless to say I'm pleased with the grouping as my shooting abilities are mediocre at best. I would prefer non-plus P ammo though. The +P HST is obviously manageable, but would be abusive to such a light gun over time. But the SCCY seems to be a pretty solid little gun for it's price point thus far. Just a FWIW and FYI.
