  1. Hi, I rarely post, just lurk a lot and take in the info! I had been looking for a pistol in 9mm or .45 to carry in my hydration pack when riding my dirtbike. Ive got several handguns, but wanted something that wouldn't be too heavy or too nice to get banged around. I picked up a sccy cpx-1 at the Outpost earlier this week for 200 bucks and took it to the range this morning. I put 150 rounds of speer lawman 124 grain and 150 rounds of Remington umc 115 grain through it. It performed perfectly, no jams, no fte's, nothing. It was pie-plate accurate out to 10 yards, which is all I expect from it. Recoil is a little snappy but not bad . ( my 13 yo daughter shot about 50 rounds and didn't complain), I have several other high-end pistols, but this is one that suits my needs perfectly. I guess my reason for this post is Ive read pros and cons, watched videos, etc , but it far exceeded my expectations. If I only had a budget of 200 for a pistol, this would be the one.

  2. Well, I got to meet Red333 and his son yesterday and it was nice to put a face with a name. We got to spend some time together and talk some. It was a pleasure meeting them. Both are great folks for sure!

  3. I see online that it could have a front sight cover. Maybe someone pulled one off it. The barrel discoloration size lends to that too.

  5. Good info Bud. I had posted a bit about my experience with the SCCY CPX-1 in another thread. I was quite pleasantly surprised with my SCCY's reliability and "shootability", especially for such an inexpensive and light weight handgun. I actually like it's revolver-like trigger system, and being hammer fired, it's second strike capability, especially for a novice shooter, or a non-dedicate shooter as it relates to training to "run the gun". I paid $200.00 for mine as well. If I run across another at that price I'll probably grab it up.

  6. Be very careful buying knives from Amazon, check what store it comes from and research them, I have had 2 knives to sharpen over the last year that were clones, the one was a Spyderco and the second another brand,Sog I believe Both bought from them

  7. Hope you are enjoying your visit. Memphis is the most interesting city in the state. But I'm biased...I was born and raised there. So any bias I might have is based in reality.

  8. All my private firearm sales and buys are with TGOers with a lot of posts or with good iTrader feedback from members I know or who also have a lot of posts. Anything else like Craigslist gets done at the local police station, and then only after an actual telephone call. You can get a pretty good feel for most folks by a phone call. That's something you don't get with chat and email.

  9. I have gone a few times to purchase a firearm in a public place alone but it was always a TGO member in good standings. If I was meeting someone not a TGO member I never went alone but had an armed friend with me to watch everything going on.

  10. I learned today that feeder goldfish from Petsmart are cheaper than minnows. More importantly I don't have to go nearly as far out of my way to get them. I know a lot of people like to use them for catfish, not sure how they work with crappie. If you go this route just don't turn your extras lose in the lake.

  12. Anybody know much about these? A friend of mines father past and he has a few pieces, I got this before really looking it over, it's not terrible but the firing pin is out and I haven't a clue about how or if i even want to mess with it.

  13. So I picked up a sporterized Springfield 1878 Trapdoor to play around with. What was done to the end of the barrel to make that line? The plan is to use it as a single shot hunting rifle if it is accurate enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  15. I only use Vihtavuori these days, because it's about as clean as powder gets. My 300BO shooting is 99% subsonic using N120 with heavier bullets, but I have loaded some Sierra 110gr Varminters with 16gr of N110. They chrono at about 2080 fps from a 16" barrel. Cheers, Rusty

  19. US you beat me to it lol. I bought a CPX2 several weeks ago and have put 140 rounds thru it. Very satisfied for what it is. Some folks simply are not 'gun guys' or don't want to tie up a lot of money to lay on a shelf or keep on a car. I paid 206 out the door. My main interests were would it hold up and could one with weak arthritic hands manipulate it. The slide lock is large and simple and a 75 yo women worked it much better than any other auto she tried other than a 22 compact. So as of now I would recommend it for non- shooters that want an inexpensive gun. It does shoot accurately with good simple sights, long double-action only trigger with 2nd strike capability. And oh yes, great color selection

  22. My buddy took the chance, he's out of state, so second hand info He is so impressed with his first 500 rounds, that it has replaced his G19 for EDC. Ergos and trigger out of the box are excellent. Fits nearly all of his 19 holsters to boot. Pretty high praise considering he went through Sig, Glock in .45, Beretta, CZ to end up with Glock (with trigger and grip mods) in 9 for EDC. He also carries an H&K in .40 for work. I'm a CZ fan, if it's all that, I'll get me one.

  23. This is the one I purchased, it came with flat magazine plates in the box and I swapped one to take up less room in my pack. Overall very happy with it, light accurate reliable so far, easy to take down and clean, and a lifetime warranty. Didn't want to add a caliber so I wanted another 9mm.

  29. College is kind of a time to learn how to operate as a grown up - hopefully with some boundaries - and hopefully without permanent consequences. I think you've kind of answered your question. She's around people her age - and some of them are going to do stupid stuff. Your responsibility as a parent is to help the consequences of that matter less. You've clearly done a great job so far. I wonder if a conversation about defense for a college aged girl coupled with some pepper spray and a good knife wouldn't be a better option? On the firearm front I like a handgun with a lockable safe that can be bolted down. College apartments aren't the most secure places. I don't like the shotgun just because it's harder to secure.

  34. Great looking knife! Nasty little nick. I have one that does this to me on occasion as well, it's a Benchmade Balisong that is razor sharp. I have pretty much given up on carrying it as it has cut me more than anything else.....and yes I realize it's operator error

  35. I'm a fan of both cartridges. The .45 Colt has an edge due to a heavier bullet at a slightly higher velocity. Bear in mind that the .45acp was designed to be a near equal to the .45 Colt and still work in a semi-auto. The difference isn't enough to worry about. OTOH, the .45acp has the advantage of a much wider variety of factory ammo and its cheaper. My own preference is to keep the two cartridges where they belong. The acp in a semi-auto and the Colt in revolvers. I'm not a fan of hot rodding the .45 Colt. When you consider that a 250-255gr hard cast lead bullet at standard velocity will go completely through the average white tail deer, you'll see that there's really no point to it. If you want a magnum, then get a magnum. And yes, it's not advisable to be shooting .45 "Magnums" in a Smith & Wesson. It won't blow up, but it will accelerate wear on the gun. However, the Smith is tougher than most people think. If you must, you can push the .45 Colt up into the +P range without any worries.

  36. Well, that's sort of semantic thing. TICS queries NICS, so it queries everything NICs does, but it also queries gawd knows what else -- and TICS will deny your transfer for things that NICS doesn't care about. - OS

Was there about fifteen minutes and seen quite a few pulled in Hybrids 5to 12 lbs Stripers 4-5 lbs and one guy pulled in his limit of two Paddlefish and left.
