  1. This is an interesting read... Source: http://americansuppressorassociation.com/hearing-protection-act-language-incorporated-into-comprehensive-sportsmens-package/ Since the re-introduction of the Hearing Protection Act by Rep. Duncan and Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) in January (H.R. 367, S. 59) the American Suppressor Association (ASA) has met with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on multiple occasions to discuss technical amendments to the language. As a result, we were able to create several technical amendments that were incorporated into the current draft of the SHARE Act. These include: Sec. 1702: Removing suppressors from the National Firearms Act, subjecting them to the same instant NICS background check as long guns, and issuing a refundable tax credit to anyone who has purchased a suppressor since the HPA’s original date of introduction Sec. 1703: Ensuring that suppressors will remain legal in all 42 states where they are currently legal, after suppressors are removed from the National Firearms Act Sec. 1704: Preempting states from levying taxes or registration requirements on suppressors. However, this will not make suppressors legal in any state where state law currently prohibits them. Sec. 1705: Granting the ATF 365 days to destroy all suppressor related records from the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR) Sec. 1706: Developing a “keystone part” definition, and requiring that such keystone part is serialized on every suppressor. This will ensure that individual suppressor parts, like pistons and endcaps, will not require serialization. Sec. 1707: Imposing a 10% Pittman-Robertson excise tax on the manufacture of each new suppressor, a tax that is currently imposed on all Title I firearms “The inclusion of the Hearing Protection Act in the sportsmen’s package highlights the commitment of the Sportsmen’s Caucus to make the hunting and recreational shooting experiences safer and more enjoyable for all,” said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of the American Suppressor Association. “We know for a fact that exposure to noise from recreational firearms is one of the leading causes of hearing loss, which is why the CDC, NIOSH, and the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) have all recommended using suppressors as a tool to mitigate the danger. We look forward to working with the Sportsmen’s Caucus to make this legislation a reality.” More available at the linked source.

  2. While not professionally lead training, I feel that this falls into the category of "Knowledge" therefore I humbly share it with you. Earlier this year I made another foray into the world of the Smith & Wesson M&P series. I have owned numerous of them over the years and always liked them for not being Glocks, and the new M2.0 design piqued my interest. I've found it to be an excellent blaster, but still couldn't quite figure out why it wasn't as natural for me to shoot as other handguns are. And I *really* wanted it to be. For as long as I can remember I have opted to run the Small sized palm-swell on the M&P 9mm and .40SW as they allowed me to more easily manipulate the mag release without breaking my grip. I have also found it challenging to refrain from pulling my shots to the left (not low-left, just left) unless I paid careful attention to where my finger went on the trigger. This past weekend I made an assessment and then made a change. The assessment being: Statistics show that the vast majority of shootings involving LEO or Civilians do not involve magazine changes. The M&P 9mm carries 17+1 rounds. It is more important for immediate proper trigger-finger placement than it is to keep my grip perfect during a mag change. The Medium size palm-swell perfectly positions my trigger-finger every time. After swapping to the larger Medium palm-swell, my shots were 100% where I wanted them, every single time, immediately from a draw. Additionally, I am able to get more purchase on the grip with my support hand, aiding in what is already an incredibly flat shooting 9mm. This may seem like a trivial thing or an obvious foregone conclusion, but consider also that I have been shooting for over 30 years now, have been carrying a handgun for over 15 years, have attended numerous classes, attend the range at least twice a month (frequently more) and have used the M&P platform since it was released in the mid 2000's. NONE of this is new or even a revelation to me, but it demonstrates how we can become so myopic in our own thinking that we might disregard an obvious solution with an elementary challenge with our equipment. The M2.0 is now one of my primary carry weapons and has finally edged out my Glock 19 for regular duty. Lesson Learned: Be brave enough to experiment on the range where your life doesn't depend on it. You might discover something surprisingly simple yet extremely effective and it could save you from spending money needlessly.

  5. I also had an issue with my rounds tending to drift let of center but only a few inches. First shot was normally dead on and as I continued to go through the magazine I for some reason seemed to always drift a little left but only a few inches by the time mag was empty. Finally a buddy of mine went to the range with me one day. He taught classes on hand gun safety and HCP classes. He just stood back and watched me for about 3 magazines and finally stepped up and gave me his assessment. He said that as he watched me I was softening up my grip which was allowing the gun to pull off to the left just slightly. He went out to his truck and came back in a with a lemon squeezer 45 and had 3 mags loaded for it. He said shoot this gun because it requires you to grip the gun firmly or it won't fire. We made three more trips to the range over the next month and each time my shooting improved with both my Bersa Thunder and my Bersa Model 85 until I was about 95 tp 98% dead on with both guns at 10 to 12 yards and about 90% at 15 yards. I know that is not perfect but with my vision beginning to fade a little back then I felt far more comfortable than I once did. Just that little tweaking made a bunch of difference in my confidence level. I am looking forward to when I get my eyes fixed so I can again enjoy the range. I did go about a week ago and burn up about 5 mags and I am still good to go up to 15 yards if it came down to defending myself wearing my glasses. Just thought I would share what I have learned about problem I was having...................

  6. I purchased another Colt 6920 to stash away for a rainy day. My fiancées nightstand gun is officially complete! I sourced the last piece of the puzzle locally, which is a S3F Solutions threaded barrel. LAV RTF2 Glock 17 x AAC Ti-RANT 9

  7. Wasn't really sure where to put this so I put it here as there is also a version with a buttstock that is a rifle. I ran across a guy posting on this on RFC and between his post and the youtube, I decided I had to try one. It should be here tomorrow. It looks like you can change these full auto pretty easily. They are not firearms by law so it is perfectly legal. They come with 6 round burst and regular semi-auto by default. The gun was only $90 and i bought 40 bottles of C02 and 30000 pellets so all in I am at $160. Pretty decent price for what looks to be a lot of fun. I'll report back how it works. I am not a fan of Umarex stuff in general, but this looked fun enough to take a flyer on it.

  9. Anybody remember how we got national park carry? This is the way this bill was always going to pass. Even if this omnibus doesn't make it, the HPA will go through as a part of a different omnibus bill. It's the way of Washington.

  11. My Grandfather lived to 101 and his brother my great uncle live to be 100 and they both made moonshine back in the 30's and 40's and drank it most of their lives, both smoked home rolled cigarettes most of their lives and chewed tobacco. They grew up doing hard work operating big farms they both owned and they grew all of their own tobacco they smoked and chewed. They also ate 99% of the food they grew or raised and butchered and only bought things like sugar, meal and flour. Everything else came from their gardens or pastures. They both credited longivity to the moonshine, home grown tobacco and not eating store bought food but living off what they raised and grew.............Don't know how true that is but can't say it's not true either................

  12. Every person who took up arms in the Revolt were criminals as construed by the legitimate government of the day. All of them were considered the "right stuff" by Washington, Jefferson, Coxe and Mason, e.g. "I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for few public officials." (George Mason, 3 Elliot, Debates at 425-426) The "militia" was to be the antithesis of the "Standing Army" which to the thinking of our Founders was a dangerous thing. TN 1796 Constitution Article 11 Section 24th : That the sure and certain defence of a free people is a well-regulated militia; and as standing armies, in time of peace, are dangerous to freedom, they ought to be avoided, as far as the circumstances and safety of the community will admit, and that in all cases the military shall be in strict subordination to the civil authority. Respecting who could own arms then, Article 11 Section 26th: That the free men of this State have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defence. Nothing about background checks or non-criminals, just free men. As we are no longer free, but slavish per Article 1 Section 2nd: That, government being instituted for the common benefit, the doctrine of non-resistance against arbitrary power and oppression is absurd, slavish, and destructive to the good and happiness of mankind. We have allowed the government to institute arbitrary rules and oppress us. I have nothing but respect for our Service men and women, and our Police, but choosing that as a job should not give special Rights to bear arms, being "fit" for military service should not be, and is not a requirement to provide protection of one's home or person.

  13. I couldn't find a full auto version. Not sure that is really the case. Even the 6 shot burst is fun, but I will take it apart and "fix" it .

  14. He mentions that the full auto version is only 20-40 bucks more than the semi. After watching him disassemble this I think I would rather pay the extra for the full auto version. lol

  15. Yep. After a certain time of day. It may only be on certain days like Fri and Sat. I can't recall the exact days and times. If you're in the area before they start up the StopNFrisk, you're good to go. So be sure to bring your Jiminez Arms JA-9 with Homeboy(tm) side-mounted sites in before the deadline. To add insult to injury, you also have to pay a $10 admission fee after 10pm. Not to enter the clubs, but to enter the public street.

  16. '39-17-1322. Defenses. A person shall not be charged with or convicted of a violation under this part if the person possessed, displayed or employed a handgun in justifiable self-defense or in justifiable defense of another during the commission of a crime in which that person or the other person defended was a victim. " "Part" is all of the 13xx section. - OS

  17. People with permits shouldn't have to worry about looking for signs or any other weapons charges. That is the whole point of buying the stupid permit in the first place isn't it or so I thought? It is kind of dumb when you pay 75 bucks for a class, a little over 100 for a permit, take the time for a class, and then turn around and you are legal at Kroger but illegal here or you have to look for a sign here. Many other states have it a lot cheaper with less restrictions than what we have here.

  19. I have to disagree with a part of this. About a year ago Gallatin had some type of Fair on the Square event and they had no gun signs up everywhere and at each gate that people had to pass through to get on the square. There was also a Gallatin police officer at each gate. There was quit a few people that expressed their views about the gun signs and turned around and left. It was Street Fair they had been having for many years And last year was the first year for the signs and it had the lowest attendance since the fair began. The Street vendors were upset about the loss in revenue and they asked the promoter what he has changed and he said the only thing different was the no gun signs. I know 2 vendors that told him if he was going to do that this year they would not be attending. There was enough of a difference in attendance that the vendors were able to notice something was wrong. It is coming back again in August so waiting to see if the signs get put up again this year.

  22. The case law is coming, TFA still has a lawsuit against Knoxville, then it will be settled law. After that I doubt Nashville will force the issue.

  23. There no question that it's a park. The issue is that Nashville and its attorney have told the legislature to get bent and it's going to take case law to resolve this issue. That means someone is going to have to go to Ascend with a ticket for admission and be denied admission because of their legal firearm, or be charged with violating 39-17-1359. Then they'll need to have deep pockets to take it to trial.

  24. Yep, the Mayor of Nashville thinks pretty much like most in her party when it comes to obeying laws. You have to obey her laws but she does not have to obey the rank and file people above her that hand down laws at the state level.............JMHO

  26. This was my buddy's response. "No. ####ing. Clue. Never looked into it, and never really felt like i needed one there. I should add... Probably not worth it trying to #### with the Puerto Rican bureaucracy. If there's some sort of legal framework to get him to carry his blaster, at best it will take forever to navigate, with no one probably willing to help a gringo carry a gun in what they view as their country. At worst it'll still take forever just to be told no. My advice would be don't worry about it. Most of the island is probably safer than wherever he lives currently, and what violent crime that does exist generally isn't targeted at tourists, as it's a sure fire way to get the police all up in their ####."

  29. So when she woke up in the morning, I warned her before she left the bedroom. "I dyed the Heathen's hair purple." She just mumbled and left the room. The dye I used is semi-permanent. I didn't bleach it first, it was designed to go over the natural hair color. The wife's response was something along the lines of "... as long as it comes out by the time school starts..." I count that as a win. For the record, I am a reformed punk. I dyed my hair blue for my senior yearbook pictures (the only once that were color back in those days.) I wore my hair way past my shoulders until just a few years ago. And it has been neon blue, neon green, neon red, blonde, black, etc... At one point and time I had anything that could be pierced, pierced. 37 of them to be precise. Yes. Four times for those wondering. I am covered head to toe in tattoos. Both of my ears are currently gauged to 5/8" and those are my only piercings now. There are several here that have met me, and everyone has been awesome, but I am sure that I am not what someone expects. In short, I embrace individuality. I was thrilled when my daughter suggested dying her hair. I never pressured her toward it. Same as when she asked to get her ears pierced, at seven or eight I believe. I never mentioned or pushed for it. I just waited for her to ask. That is how she got into shooting sports. I made her play soccer for four years, and she hated it. She asked on her own to join the 4H Shooting Sports Team as soon as she was old enough. I told her that in addition to mandatory musical extra curricular activities (orchestra and band) she had to have one other one. She chose shooting sports. And she is a rock star at it. With purple hair.
