  1. Had to work in east tn and said well.... I'll cruise through buds to see if there was something that I could not live without. After browsing and carousing amongst a load of people, I bellied up to the counter and asked for a sig P320X5.... knowing these are nowhere to be found right now the counterman yanked one off the wall. 30 bucks more than national average price but being a Sig fanboy, I got it!!! Now the bad part.... THP has not sent me my renewed DL yet, it's been over 30 days, buds would not take the paper copy as valid ID, something about ATF not liking the paper temporary ID ,so now after putting it on layaway, I'll have to wait to pick up the X5 until I get my plastic DL in hand... Sorry had to say yay and wtf in one thread!!! Happy Father's Day! lol be home drooling staring out the window[emoji38] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. They probably realized that the cops would not take them quietly. Their fear of being shot, killed or severely beaten won out and they surrendered to the first human they saw, who would call the cops. They would then be on the ground waiting with no chance for a misunderstanding or signs of resistance. They gave up because they knew they would never get away. Completely different caliber, but when I was in the sixth grade I skipped school for a week and a half. Rode the bus in, ran for the woods, snuck back in to get on the bus and rode it home. After a while I knew there was no getting away with it. The other kids that joined me all agreed and we turned ourselves into the office and took our punishment. 7. Unless you plan to put a tracking device in it in lieu of a firearm. You could use one of the small ones you build into the wall between the studs. It would fit above the door and be secure. Something like this maybe. Might need to be slightly smaller though

  9. I'm 2 to 3 tenths slower on initial shot from holster. I practiced for a good 6 months and never really improved my time. I gave up and went back to irons for first shots and any fast repeat shots. Now, to the good part. I'm not the most accurate shooter in the world. I have good training and fundamentals but super accurate shooting is just not something that happens for me. With the red dot my shots at 25 yards and out are way better. The difference is pretty close to incredible. So for me, I'm going to keep working with it. At this point I ignore it on the draw and go to it when I have the time. That's a win in my book...

  10. When you're wrong, you're wrong... I bought my first M&P back when Smith and Wesson introduced them in 2005. It was my M&P 40 and I still have it. I was shopping for a Glock 23 when the S&W rep who was visiting Guns & Leather handed me one and asked if I had considered their new plastic-fantastic. I left with not only it but also an M&P 40 compact, and soon after added an M&P 9 compact, an M&P 9 full size, an M&P 9 Julie Goloski edition for my wife, an M&P 45 Mid-Size, and an M&P Shield 9mm. To say that I have had my share of M&Ps is maybe a slight understatement and I definitely wouldn't consider myself a Johnny Come Lately to the ownership circle given the timeline. For at least 6-8 years, my M&P 40 was my every day carry but it was eventually replaced with a Glock 19 for reasons that most of us have probably given at one point or another. "For the sake of change" is probably the most honest answer I can give anyone, but I had an assortment of other reasons waiting in the wings if I was pressed on it. Besides, the Glock 19 is arguably a very reliable and functional gun. But so is my M&P 40. Fast forward to late 2016 and the new M&P M2.0 was announced by Smith and Wesson. I admit it. I yawned. I scoffed. I publicly stated that I saw little about it that would motivate me to go back to an M&P 9mm after having had a relatively bad experience with the full-size M&P 9 that I had owned before. I was wrong. Last weekend I had the chance to shoot one. It felt better in the hand thanks to the aggressive stippling that S&W has applied to the frame and palm swells. The beaver tail was gone and suddenly it was even closer in length to my Glock 19 than the previous offerings and it felt better riding inside of my TT Gunleather inside the waistband holster without the frame protrusion digging into my chiseled, well-muscled midsection. The frame was less "flexy" at the front of the slide thanks to the change in design that extended the metal skeleton all the way forward. The front cocking serrations weren't all that big of a deal, but they weren't ridiculously ineffective either. They didn't sway me either way, but they did add a bit of flair to the expanse of boring metal forward of the ejection slot. But the trigger. Damn them, the trigger was better than I anticipated. It was smooth and clean right up to an abrupt wall, then it broke crisply and without grit. The reset was firm, tactile and audible, and the reset travel was maybe 3/16 of an inch from the terminus to reset, measured at the bottom tip of the trigger itself. The reset still isn't as forceful as a Glock 19 with OEM connector and trigger return spring, but it is right on par with the feel of a reset from a Sig P320. It honestly feels better than any Apex'd M&P that I have owned or fired. So what does a guy do when he's as wrong about a firearm as I was? Yep.

Have been shooting it in the garage. The only drawback is the trigger is a little heavy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  13. I won't really know until match day of course, but I think I fixed the 870 today. I replaced the extractor, spring, and plunger and it's running fine now. And since I pulled the barrel to work on it, I checked my slug zero once I got it good and hot. Look closely - that's two shots at 50yds from kneeling. Giggity.

  15. Most all of the dealers in the shows I went to back years ago were beginning to be booths that owned a gun store someplace and were just selling their store inventory for the same price or a bit higher than you could walk into their store and buy the firearm. Back when shows like this began it was because you could get good deals on items but that is long gone. That is why the promoters are using other products to fill empty spaces such as Jerky and Bar-B-Que Sauces and Aluminum Siding Companies. Last show I went to was January 2009 in Nashville and left empty handed cause there was no deals to be found anywhere..........JMHO

  18. I have no less than six loaded firearms in my home. No, I won't tell you where. No, none of them are locked up. That is not counting several knives and baseball bats as well. I also have a small child, well she is turning eleven very soon, in my home. I have had loaded firearms in the home since she came home. She has been raised since she was old enough to be curious exactly what they are. As soon as she was old enough to hold the weight of one (four) she was taught how to use them. There are no toy guns in my home. I didn't want that confusion. A gun is a gun. Pink, red, blue or black. It goes 'bang' and it will hurt you if used improperly. No questions. My wife quit questioning me about it many years ago when it was there in a situation, unneeded, but it calmed her to know that we were prepared. Now she accepts it, and my daughter doesn't know any different life. I grew up with a loaded gun in the home (and that exact same gun is still loaded, in my home, for my entire life) and it is as natural to me as opening the fridge and finding milk, pickles and mayonnaise. No Miracle Whip here. That doesn't mean it is the right choice for everyone. But it is the right choice for me.

  20. Flag Status Current Status: Half Staff Remains of Vietnam War Veteran to Return to Middle Tennessee William Brandon O'Kieff to be Laid to Rest After Nearly SO Years By order of the Governor, flags over the State Capitol and all State office buildings are to be lowered to half-staff in honor and memory of U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant William O’Kieff of Murfreesboro, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Vietnam War. Flags are to be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Note: Please make every effort to follow the instruction above, however, if your flag location does not have the ability to lower on Saturday, please make note to lower at the close of business on Friday and raise back to full staff at sunrise on Monday. NASHVILLE - Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant William O'Kieff of Murfreesboro, who was presumably killed on November 27, 1970 along with five other American crew members, 73 Republic of South Vietnam service members and their wives and children. O'Kieff was assigned to 19th Tactical Airlift Squadron, 315th Tactical Airlift Wing and was serving in support of the Vietnam War when the C-123K carrying the Americans and South Vietnamese passengers crashed. The Flight Engineer from Middle Tennessee was 38-years old at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash has not been determined. On December 18, 1970, a Graves Registration Team recovered approximately 34 bodies, but was only able to identify two American crewmembers. >On March 29, 1971, additional remains were discovered but individual identifications were not made and the remains were buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Between 1985 and 1988, Vietnamese refugees returned human remains and personal effects over to the U.S. Using DNA testing and anthropological analysis, the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDI L) identified O'Kieff in May, 2017. O'Kieff played football for the Tigers and graduated from Central High School in Murfreesboro before he enlisted in the Air Force. In 1958 he married Margaret Adair O'Kieff and they had two children together. Margaret passed away in 2016. "William left the football fields of Tennessee to bravely serve in the combat zones of Vietnam and gave his all in the process," Haslam said. "We join his children, Alexander and Dawn, in remembering their father's brave service and finally laying him to rest in Tennessee." "As we prepare to pay our respects and remember the ultimate sacrifice of William O'Kieff, we also want to remember the sacrifice of his family who waited nearly 50 years for this day," Grinder said. "This is a somber time of closure and gratitude for the ongoing efforts of the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory to identify our fallen heroes." "Our family is just overwhelmed with all that has happened in the short weeks of receiving this information," daughter Dawn O'Kieff said. "We never thought that we would have our father back home to us. To have him laid to rest beside our mum, and his parents and grandparents is just absolutely amazing." O'Kieffs remains will arrive at the Nashville International Airport Air Cargo Building at 963 Airport Service Road in Nashville on Friday, June 16 at 12:49 p.m. (CDT). Media planning to attend the dignified arrival will need to be staged at the Air Cargo Building by noon. Interviews with family members will not be provided during the dignified transfer of remains. Haslam has declared a day of mourning and ordered flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, June 17 in honor of Technical Sergeant O'Kieffs ultimate sacrifice. Graveside service with full military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 5350 NW Broad Street, Murfreesboro on Saturday, June 17 at 1 :00 p.m. (CDT). O'Kieff is survived by his son Alexander, daughter Dawn of Nashville and granddaughter Aislin O'Kieff of Conover, North Carolina. http://www.tn.gov/main/article/flag-status

  27. Thanks for the additional info FrankD. Having small ones, and even "non-gun" people obviously requires various options, and consideration of quick access vs security. My wife is "non-gunny" but keeps a .38 revolver in the living room with her when I am not at home. It's the firearm she's most comfortable with. Having a non-lethal or less-lethal option readily available might also be a consideration. I have OC spray near the various entrances to our home. Not setting out in the open for kids to grab, but accessible. I have very little trust in even professional grade fingerprint scanner devices. We use one at work for accessing medications. As I wash my hands dozens upon dozens of times per day, I have unreliable fingerprints... DPS had a heck of a time obtaining a set for my original State issued handgun permit back as far as 1990. I had to change to a password key-in at work as we simply couldn't make it work for me. This machine dispenses narcotics and other controlled substances and supposedly has "state of the art" scanning equipment. Many of my coworkers have to moisten their fingertips to make the device work. We also have access areas that require a numeric push button keypad and they work as long as they have electricity. I am not saying that the recommended devices are not sound choices, just cautioning you to try them under varying conditions to develop a trust level you are comfortable with. A previous instructor of mine, Bill Jeans, used to keep an 870 above his door frame when his kids were small. I did similar when my son was very young. But never slacked on the ongoing education and training with him. I guess I'm fortunate in that when I met my wife 30 years ago I carried, so she's never known anything different of me. Good luck in your decisions and please keep us posted as we can learn along with you.

  29. In all seriousness, I have thought of it, but I have little fingers around. I also thought of things like these Tactical Walls items, but budget and spouse agreement are issues there. They make a ton of options including an "Issue Box" that Is a tissue box with a false bottom for a pistol.

  30. I've been watching and wondering which way the fence riders would go after this horrific shooting episode. You never know, since the Liberals brainwashing has been really strong. A person could hate the feeling of helplessness in that kind of situation of desperately needing a gun and not having one and still slip on either side. It all comes down to their outlook on what a firearm is. A tool that can be used for protection of self and loved one(s) or an evil entity that should be eradicated. I've read several reports that the GOP members are wanting to protect themselves, which is a power everyone should be allowed to have of course. This leads me to one thing though. They are wanting to be exempt from DC's anti carry laws. I think that if a law exists that those in Washington feel the need to be exempted of, then it's a pretty ####ty law to start with and shouldn't be on the books at all. Sorry for the French, but that is how I feel.

  40. I had the chance to hold one of these this morning and watch a gentleman fire it at the range. It was nice. I think the beavertail really could have been made better if they'd have given it a slight curve upward a la most 1911's in the world, but it was otherwise a very fine specimen. He didn't seem to like the factory sights very much, but admitted it was due to his eyesight. That front blade is VERY thin.

  41. This is one of the worst non-natural scenarios. It leaves everyone alive and in place with little chance of re-supply. If the EMP is widespread, then there will be no government or military help. If the military can stay intact personnel wise, it will be fending for itself, not helping out. More than likely though, a lot of the personnel will be sent home or leave on their own. They will want to get home to family. With electronics down the brass will have just as hard of a time keeping them fed as the rest of the people. There will be waves of deaths. The first wave will be those ill and infirm that need direct medical attention or medication that they cannot get. This will be interspersed with deaths due to crime and rioting. The next wave will be more based on the struggle to secure resources. People killing people to keep or take food, water, and valued locations. The final wave will be those who die due to lack of food, water, and hygiene. There is no telling how long wave 2 and 3 will really last if the power stays off. Different areas will last longer or shorter due to population density, close food supplies, and the ability to gather, grow, or raise more food. At least in a far reaching and fast moving pandemic or zombie event, resources are left intact. This means for at least a while people can use vehicles, generators, and other electricity based items to move about or improve their condition. It also means that if the death rate is high, that there are many less people to fight over the resources. These items will run out eventually, but it gives survivors time to coordinate plans. And yes, I think about these scenarios more than I probably should. Blame the Boy Scouts that taught me to "Always be prepared".

  42. Yes the gun does fit into the IDPA box. I have check it out. For IDPA you will need to order Sig Sauer P320 17 round magazines and put Springer Precision EZ + .375" Base Pads on the magazines. When you order these base pads there is a drop down so you can indicate that the base pads are for the Sig P320 X5. The base pads are modified for the X5 magwell.

  43. Yeah. It almost makes you wonder if they are orchestrating it. Maybe the "thieves" grab stuff that will profit the owners when the insurance pays. That is pure speculation. I wonder if a store's FFL can get revoked if they do not show that they attempt to avoid it happening? I know a lady that runs a gun store and when she got hit once, she installed surveillance, added welded bars to all the windows, and puts a lot of the best stuff away in the safe each night. She even will randomly stay a night in the store to add an extra layer of deterrent. Between her lady Smith and the stainless 12GA she keeps, people would be stupid to try.
