  1. You never pay for what is done, you pay for the years of experience, school and the machine the work is done on. If you can do the job your self why pay someone else?

  2. I pretty much agreed with the Zimmerman verdict....Like it or not Trayvon Martin was not a "child" and he was the same height and weight as Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard. He would still be alive if he hadn't doubled back around and attacked Zimmerman. Zimmerman may be a douchebag but he has a right to defend himself from unlawful violence. I agreed with the Michael Brown investigation not leading to charges being filed. The whole "hands up don't shoot" has been proven to be fantasy and the coroners report shows a pretty clear picture of what happened. I even can see how Betty Shelby was acquitted (the officer who shot Terence Crutcher in Oklahoma). But I was truly surprised (and a bit dumbfounded) at the Yanez/Castile decision. When asked why he shot Castile , Yanez said "I don't know" . Really? You DON'T know? I get it that Castile matched the description of a robbery suspect in that area. That is enough to amp up any officer about to interact with someone. And you hate to Monday morning quarterback in these situations but it just seemed that Yanez was a little TOO amped up and maybe out of his depth. Was this the first time he'd ever encountered a legally armed citizen ? In the audio he seemed like someone who just realized he had really screwed up. I'll be the first to tell you that there is very little time to make a measured decision when human reaction time can mean the difference in life and death.....but this case just seems like a cop who was maybe a little too ready to shoot saw a black guy and a gun and fear of the two together lead to a shooting that should never have happened. I'm normally going to come down on the side of "if you don't fight the police you are not likely to get shot"....but Castile by all accounts was not fighting them and it is pretty unlikely he was initiating a gunfight with his girlfriend and her 4 year old daughter in the car. This is just a sad situation all the way around. And while I feel there are far too many families of criminals protesting their hoodlum family members finally falling victim to the law of averages (and not every "gentle giant" is in fact gentle), this one seems to be a case of at a bare minimum an officer being a little too quick on the trigger and that cost a man his life. .

  3. Well, as many of y'all may have seen, a verdict was handed down the other day in this case. I did my best to stay away from the politics of it last time, but I want to state for the record that I am extremely upset at the outcome of this trial. I believe it to be yet another reminder that we have a legal system instead of a justice system. Philando Castille did not receive any justice in this matter, posthumous or otherwise. That said, that's not the reason I am reviving this thread. I want to post Colion Noir's open letter on the subject. My hope is that as a name many of y'all are familiar with, and hopefully whose work and voice y'all value, his words may find some resonance where others may find resistance because of who they are

  4. Some things have happened in the last week we need to learn from. Two corrections Officers were murdered on a prisoner transport bus in Georgia. There is video of the murders, but I have not seen it. This is all mere speculation on my part. Because the two murderers had to come through a locked gate to get to the Officers, I assume they forced their way through or somehow unlocked the gate. I’m not sure how that could happen without the Officers having time to get their guns out. So it makes me wonder...Were they thinking they weren’t justified in shooting these guys because they were unarmed. If that is the case it cost them their lives. They were justified in shooting them as obviously they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. The results support that. I just read in another post that we have a legal system not a justice system. Absolutely, I have said that several times here. Being a former Police Officer I am absolutely sure of that. I am also absolutely sure that will not change. Justice? If you come through the incident alive you will get as much justice as you can afford. A poor person with a Public defender will likely not get the same outcome as a rich person or a high profile case where the “Big Names” are involved. Otto Warmbier died this week as the result of a murder. My guess is that he was beaten as soon as he got to prison and had a traumatic brain injury. I suspect the North Koreans waited a year so as not show any evidence. But that just a WAG. The Officer that shot Philando Castile was acquitted in court. What do these three incidents have in common? Situational awareness, common sense, and legalities. You are responsible for teaching your kids how to stay alive. One of the guys at work today asked “What do you think made Otto rip down that poster?” I said I can only guess that he forgot where he was and mistakenly thought he had some rights. He certainly didn’t deserve to die over it; but he did. Was Philando Castile going for a gun? I don’t pretend to know I didn’t hear the evidence. But I’ve been in shootings and had a gun pulled on me more than once. There is no time; you act or die. In this case a jury believed that they would have believed they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. People need to know that whether it’s a cop, citizen, or armed robber, if some pulls a gun on them they have two choices, listen to exactly what the person is telling you to do and don’t make any wrong moves, or fight. There is no middle of the road; there is no time to think. Justice? We will never really know but the Officer stood trial and a jury acquitted him. I think the two corrections Officers may have taken that one or two very valuable seconds of hesitation and it cost them their lives. What would have happened had they gunned down the two unarmed convicts as they came through the gate? Well.. there would be plenty of people callings for their heads. Stay alive…. And teach your kids how to stay alive. If they are having an interaction with a cop and it goes wrong; there will be a time and a place to deal with it. Trying to deal with it right then on the street will likely end badly for them. I wish I could help kids understand traffic stops and the ramifications of DUI. They get so much bad information. Some of it coming from their parents and teachers, and a mountain of it coming from lawyers.

  5. For years I collected Mosin Nagants by arsenal and production year. I made the decision last year to get completely out of the Mosin collecting. I told myself that my shoulder would appreciate the break lol. Since I have "a little" 7.62x54r laying around I figured I needed a VEPR in 7.62x54r to use up the ammo :-) but that's for another forum. The only two bolts I have left are two Mausers. One is a Yugo K98 with beautiful wood. It's dead accurate. My other K98 is German Nazi marked Russian Capture. Its VG+ and I've never fired it. Al swastikas and waffenamps are intact. For whatever reason the Mausers are not as punishing to shoot as the Mosins. I'm concentrating these days in semi auto rifles and every time I ponder moving these last two Mausers I get them out and say "No. Can't do it." i never got into the Italian stuff and I have owned a couple of French MAS bolts through the years but they never really bit me with the bug like Mosins and Mausers.

  6. Ramjo, strangely enough I've never had an affinity for the straight pull rifles. The little Steyrs look like a monster to shoot. They hardest shooting rifle I ever bought milsurp wise was a 91/59. It hurt so bad I traded it after 5 rounds. No joke. It's the same size as an M44 or M38 but for whatever reason it kicked 3x harder.

  7. I was going to make a wisecrack about not running your boat in the parking lot... until I realized "oh bleep. He *actually* hit a car". Once a buddy and I hit a ~18" dia deadhead at over 60 MPH. It sheared the lower unit clean off the motor.

  8. Yea, I really don't see the issue. Sanction to hurt Russia financially must ultimately include weapons as I am sure it's probably right up there in the top items that we import. If Hillary was elected, it would be to hurt us, the America gun owner, not Russia.

  10. Thank you! Yes, sir! The X-Ring is without a doubt one of my favorite rifles to shoot. It is lightweight and lights out accurate. From the shooters ear, I would say that my Dead Air Mask is quieter than my Surefire. I prefer the Surefire on X-Ring to keep the overall weight down. The Surefire can weighs 3.1 ounces versus the Mask which weighs 6.6 ounces. If weight is not an issue, my vote is for the Dead Air Mask. Whereabouts in the state are you located? You are more than welcome to shoot my rifle, my friend.

  12. As a machinist I'll say it's a bargain if done right. The real quasi on is how much would it cost me to do this work to this quality? The answer is self evident then.

  18. I bit the bullet and I bought my first 74! Arsenal SLR104-UR By this time next year, I will have my rifle back from Rifle Dynamics with the following work completed. - Cut + crown barrel to 8" - Custom porting to optimally run my Dead Air Wolverine PBS-1 suppressor - Tune recoil system - Norrels Moly-Resin flat back finish - UltiMAK M13 Krink Rail - ALG AKT-EL - Bulgarian triangle stock Once I have the rifle back in my possession, I will drop a Aimpoint T2 + a Surefire M300 Scout Light into a Haley Strategic Thorntail SBR light mount. My rifle will look very similar to my friends (9minded on Instagram) RD 104UR. The key difference between our builds is a 8" barrel chop + Wolverine PBS-1 versus 9" barrel chop with a Dead Air QD mount to run his Sandman S. Aside from that, our rifles will be identical.

  19. My name is Sunfish and I'm a real Mauser-holic. Yes they kick pretty hard in 8mm with full power loads. They kick much harder in 9.3x62 and 35 Whelen and 8-06 though. This all started with a 7.7 jap as a child which was a cock on close action and pricey Norma ammo and evolved to where it is today. There were Mosin's and Enfield's and 03's along the way. My only 03 was a straight stock and I was about 11 when I would take the wheelbarrow and a can of ammo to the creek and shoot until my shoulder was green it was bruised so bad. The creek was the perfect place to learn because I could see where every shot hit without walking back and forth. I got away from the rimmed cartridges and nearly everything I have is based on the 30-06 with few exceptions. I don't get to shoot as much as I would like but I make a day of it when I go

  21. I'm all into milsurp bolt actions. It was my dad's thing and he passed it on to me. Mosin's will put a hurt on you after a while but I have a theory based on thousands of rounds. First, when surplus ammo was cheap I would go pop off 60-80 rounds or however much I brought in one session to the point I was just pulling the trigger so I didn't have to take any ammo home. That's punishing in and of itself. Second, Mosin's have a shorter stock than normal rifles. I firmly believes that makes a difference. I broke down and put a nancy pad on my main Mosin and it definitely helped in increasing that length of pull and getting an extra 20-40 rounds out of a ammo burning session. Now, an 8mm in K98 configuration with proper 196 gr surplus ammo is absolutely brutal. The heavier the bullet the more it kicks...or beats you up. Romanian surplus 8mm carries 150 gr bullets and Is a joy to shoot compared to Turkish and Yugo. While the Turkish is the hottest of the bunch, it is not "machine gun ammo". I think it's just more suited to the longer barreled Mauser the Turks made. I know the Turk stuff I have performed noticebly different in my Yugo M48 (shot was high) than Yugo and Romanian stuff. My '43 nazi stamped Mauser Oberdorf K98 has not tasted corrosive ammo since WWII and never will.

  22. the 91/30s shoot lighter than the M38,M44, M91/59 carbines. 100 rounds through any Mosin carbines in a range day will leave a mark lol. Well, the Turkish 8mm surplus ammo is hot. But it goes bang every time. Ive got Turk, Yugo mainly and some Romanian steel case stuff. These all are less punishing than the Turk. Some say the Turk was supposed to be machine gun ammo. I can believe it.

  25. I've been watching and wondering which way the fence riders would go after this horrific shooting episode. You never know, since the Liberals brainwashing has been really strong. A person could hate the feeling of helplessness in that kind of situation of desperately needing a gun and not having one and still slip on either side. It all comes down to their outlook on what a firearm is. A tool that can be used for protection of self and loved one(s) or an evil entity that should be eradicated. I've read several reports that the GOP members are wanting to protect themselves, which is a power everyone should be allowed to have of course. This leads me to one thing though. They are wanting to be exempt from DC's anti carry laws. I think that if a law exists that those in Washington feel the need to be exempted of, then it's a pretty ####ty law to start with and shouldn't be on the books at all. Sorry for the French, but that is how I feel.

  28. I use to use minnows all the time for Crappie fish untilta buddy of mine took me one time. I asked him if we were going to stop and get minnows and he said, nope, don't need any. When were got to where we were going to fish he handed me a rod already rigged and it had a Crappie tube bait on it in Black body with chartreuese tails and I no more than got it down in the brush pile before I had a big fat Crappie on. We both caught our limits in keepers in about 1 1/2 hours. Caught a bunch of fish. If they quit biting one color you switched to another. The one I caught most on was the Red Body with Chartruese tails. If you have never tried them you might want to give the a try. You can catch about 8 or 10 fish on 1 tube..............

  30. I have top-end audio/video recorders (with real time upload to the cloud) in my vehicles. When I am pulled over I politely state that the entire interaction is being recorded and uploaded. I then cooperate fully but never say more than I have to say. I have on occasion refused to answer certain questions that I thought were off base. Fortunately, I have never had any trouble and feel I have been treated fairly. Having said this, I think it is entirely possible that a black man under the same circumstances may have a higher probability of being treated differently. Any way you cut it we've got a problem that's not going to be fixed easily.

  31. Regardless of this case I think Chucks point is how do we interact with LEO's to make sure that we are seen as the good guys and don't find ourselves in the same situation. For me its about clear communication and removing any threatening behavior from my side of the transaction. If possible have my ID out and ready. Roll all the windows down if possible to make the interior of the car/passengers visable. (turn on the dome light if its dark). If the officer asks me about being armed/weapons I will tell them. If not I keep my mouth shut. If I do tell the officer that I am armed that's exactly how I say it. NOT "I have a Gun". Then I ASK the officer what they want me to do and do it. Only once was I asked to step out of the car and disarm myself. It was done professionally. I have sympathy for LEO's in general for the work they do and the danger it puts them in. They have a professional duty to protect the public and themselves. I respect that and do my level best to never make them think of me as any kind of threat. Most LEO's have treated me with similar respect in return. We may never know the actual events of this case. It doesn't look good at first blush for any number of reasons. Its a sad thing that a man lost his life. I hope that it does get figured out.
