  2. We had a woman show up and plead guilty which was only a $50 ticket. She stumped the courts and the attorneys when she said she wasn't going to pay it. There was nothing, not a thing, that the courts could do. They weren't going to sue her for the money. They were hoping the accused would either pay or not show up. Pleading and guilty and not paying was something they never could figure out.

  3. Added another target to my hill side. Rated for handguns up to .45. Not suppose to be used for .22 because it will not swing and could come back at the shooter and center fire rifles because too much power. http://vikingsl.com/portfolio/viking-pistol-target/ I mounted it semi permanent by driving a piece of channel 30" into the hill and bolting it on instead of using the X base. I put it at an angle so if I shoot .22 it will deflect down, seems to work. Have also pushed the limit to handgun caliber carbines and it doesn't seem to over stress anything. It is out at about 25 yards, the targets are 6" and 10" AR500. Here is a before picture.

  4. My vote is shrink the government to match the revenues. If government is providing a service folks actually value, they'd be willing to pay for it voluntarily instead of at gunpoint. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

  7. I received a phone call from K-Var two weeks ago to remind me that I had a FM VEPR 47 on layaway. I placed the Vepr on layaway when they initially launched and I completely forgot that I did. They allowed me to keep my deposit and pay off the balance. I want to thank K-Var for squaring me away when I had lost all hope of purchasing a FM Vepr at the pre-panic price of $999.99. by

  9. So I emailed Diamondback and heard back from them within hours. They do in fact have "a" wrench to fit their proprietary barrel nuts, and they do loan it at no charge to purchasers of their guns or handguards. Unfortunately, they said, they had just mailed it out today to another purchaser, so they suggested I check back in a couple of weeks. So, either Diamondback is not selling a lot of these handguards, or there are a lot of guys out there cranking away on their guns with pipe wrenches.... I'm thinking now that I will probably wait for the tool to arrive before I install this handguard. I may finish up my current build with a different handguard and just build another rifle when the barrel wrench arrives. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Cheers, Whisper

  15. What quotas? There are no quotas. They just hire twice as many cops to patrol the last week of every month.

  17. Looks like it did when I bought it pretty much. It's not a G-Tech either that I can tell. The receiver is parkerized, dust cover blue, the rest Hungarian and US parts. Nice, classic wood. Bought it from a long gone store in Knoxville in maybe 2000 or so, don't remember exactly when but it was about the time the Intracs hit the market from what I can tell.

  20. In the interest of clarity, let me say that I never meant to infer that it was for the PD budget. I know those fines are directed to the municipality's general fund. That doesn't change the purpose, just who is behind it. As an example, the DOJ report after the Ferguson riots detailed how the municipal government exerted pressure on the PD to increase ticketing to generate more revenue. Or for another, less contentious example closer to home, Piperton as previously mentioned derives a large amount of its budget from traffic violations. The two biggest giveaways that the purpose of the traffic enforcement is for revenue generation are pretty easy to spot. Does the municipality have traffic/petty fines listed as an expected revenue source in its budget. Does the municipality report the infractions to the state or does it just keep the records, and revenue to themselves or "dismiss on court costs"? Here's a great op ed on the subject from last year. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckdevore/2016/10/26/police-collected-fines-fees-and-forfeitures-how-does-your-city-rank/#6dea23525202

  23. It is only ever about the revenue. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying. Granted, they may be lying to themselves as well, but they are most definitely not in relationship with the truth on the subject. If it wasn't about revenue, then they would employ other methods to get folks to slow down. As an example, Covington employs empty squad cars posted in highly visible locales along 51. I've seen this tactic used in Dayton, OH and other municipalities before as well. You never know if the unit is empty or not, and folks slow down because of that. If the officer or detection device is not highly visible, if their presence is concealed or minimized (such as the trend in making the paint schemes less obvious so that they blend in with surrounding traffic better) then their purpose is revenue generation. Increased "public safety" is at best a byproduct, and more often just a convenient pretense.

  27. As a side note, several have posted how they tell the cop they are armed. I've never done this and don't plan to start if not required. The last thing I want during a traffic stop is to get disarmed by someone who may or may not be familiar with the gun I carry (especially since it's usually a single action auto), and the first step to getting disarmed is telling them you are armed. Sure, they can see that you have a permit if they run your license, but I've been stopped six or seven times since getting a permit and have never once been asked if I had a gun. Maybe they were in a hurry or maybe they just didn't care, but STFU has been a winning formula so far.

  28. On the other hand, a 50-60 hour work week is, unfortunately, becoming the norm in America. I know very few people with full time jobs who work only 40 hours/week any more. "More with less" and all that I guess.

  32. I like Podcasts that you learn something from listening to. My favorite is "Stuff You Should Know". You are not going to learn any life changing skills, but the topics are always interesting, and the hosts have a comical banter. If I'm in the mood for a quick listen, I'll check out BrainStuff. They are usually less than 5 minutes long each, and they give you an overview of how something works.
