  3. Diagnosed myself a few weeks ago with a serious flinch. Been hitting the range x2 wk to iron things out - putting hard work into basic fundamentals - 1"dot/3yds, 2"circles/5yds. Slowly making progress with the Glock, but took a few other pistols the other day just to shoot something different/get a different result. First is with G34, then G19, then M&P 40 - really digged the M&P, even though I discounted them a long time ago, even in .40 - great shooting pistol. Might be a 2.0/5" in my future. Last pic is last trip, just the 34 - finally started getting things figured out.

  4. Ok time for our annual officially unofficial deer season thread! Archery Season opens this Saturday, September 23rd! Statewide bag limit on antlered deer is 2. Antelered deer are defined as visible antlers (not including button bucks). I think last year a spike with antlers less than 2" was considered an antlerless deer but that has now, changed. Good luck everyone. Be safe, wear your Saftey harness or dont climb and 3 points of contact when you do. Now sound off!

  8. I have seriously begun to question how many of you TGO regulars actually go to the range and shoot your guns, and how many of you just buy them to let them sit at your house. Or worse yet, how many of you just come here to talk about politics because politics and guns see to be inextricably linked to one another. So, let's have some fun related to guns. The next time you are at the range, take a photo of what you're shooting and what your targets look like. It doesn't matter what distance. You don't even have to disclose it. If you want to stand right in front of it and pull the trigger for the tightest group possible, that's fine and you don't have to tell a soul. At least you're out shooting! To start us off: This was a recent outing with one of my old faithfuls. This M&P 40 was produced in 2005 and is one of the earliest production runs of the reborn M&P line from Smith and Wesson. I have owned it since it was new and it has about 10,000 rounds on it now. It has attended six combative pistol classes and has never failed me. Not a single time. Never a failure to feed, fire or eject. I have put a seemingly endless combination of sights on it over the years but it currently wears Ameriglo Hackathorn sights. I haven't even replaced the recoil spring on it yet. No sign that I need to, either. This grouping was shot at about 15 yards and is two magazine's worth (30 rounds) of 40SW.

  9. So I bought a Bersa 83 recently. I like the feel in my hand, but I have not shot it yet. Anyone got one? What are your thoughts? For a guy that does not like .380, they keep following me home.

  10. Bandit and Brigand have resigned themselves to the fact I am bigger, stronger and more ornery than they are. They suffer through it. Bandit after four years recently walked herself to the tub and just accepted her fate. Brigand enjoys her baths. If only every dog could be a Lab. I have always bathed them while I showered, thus eliminating two birds and not getting frustrated at being soaked myself at the end. I may try this, it could possibly make the experience better for them. For what it is worth I have told my daughter since she was small there is but one fact in this world. Vae Victis. "Woe to the Conquered." Translated in modern time as the age old, and true, "Might Makes Right." For right or wrong, it is a motto I live by, and it keeps my family fed, and my dogs secure in the pack hierarchy. IMO might can be brawn, brain or guile. I use them all as it suits me.

  11. I spoiled myself a little this year. I am still using my Mathews Switchback bow, but I picked up a new 1.5 man 17 ft ladder stand, two used ladder stands, and a Millennium m100u lock on with Hawk Helium climbing sticks. Almost too much to choose from.....almost

  14. 12 gauge is probably best. Get a used single-shot Savage or something like that; they're cheap and will last you forever. I still have the one my father gave me in 1964. Many if not most of them came with a full choke, which is what you want for turkeys. Cheers, Whisper

  15. Haters gonna hate, but operators gotta operate!

  16. Its not a good idea. Turkeys are tough birds and the head/neck is very small target. You'll want a massive amount of lead headed his way to increase your odds of an ethical kill. If you use a .410, you will drastically cut your effective range and risk wounding the bird. 20 gauge can be used effectively but again, you'll limit your range. 12 gauge is what most people use and for good reason. There are plenty of cheap 12 gauges out there though.

  20. Slappy, excellent thread as always! I look forward to your posts and unparalleled wisdom! Unfortunately I will not be sitting in a stand opening morning. I have to work and it's also my wife's birthday but I'll try to get out there with the bow next week!

  21. Dang son............ Do you get sunshine at all during the day? I know BT use to complain that his Verizon would not work on Dale Hollow lake and they brag about having the best coverage. These days they all seem to brag about their coverage but I think they all have dead zones regardless of who they are. I know last time I was on 840 going to the Boro right about the race track my AT&T lost coverage for about 6 miles and then picked it back up.............Hope you find something that will work for you.................

  23. Understand completely, but I had checked the URL in the hyperlink before I posted. Probably not the right place, but there are a lot of security precautions we should all take to avoid falling victim to spoofed addresses, harmful hyperlinks, etc.

  25. Finally got my hands on a Garand. I have actually had this rifle for several months, just now posting it. I have wanted one for as long as I can remember! As far as I can tell, the receiver's SN dates it to a 1953. Unfortunately it is not a matching numbers rifle, I still thoroughly enjoy it however. I still have yet to shoot it. Overall it seems like it will be a great shooter though, the bore is in excellent shape. I do not plan on restoring or refinishing the rifle in any way. I love the way it looks with all its little character marks and imperfections. Just thought I'd share one of my current favorites in the safe with you guys!

  33. I started out carrying in a molded leather holster. I took the firearm out about 2 to 4 times a month and wiped it down with a silicone rag. Now I carry in a molded kydex holster. I take it out about 2-4 times a year and wipe everything down with a silicone rag. If the holster is pretty dirty I rinse it off in the sink. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
