  1. To me, the anthem is a solemn time of reflection, where focus is upon the flag and the men who have stood behind that flag over the last 200+ years. What these players are doing is bringing attention to themselves, when all attention should on the flag. It's distracting, disrespectful and just the wrong time to do your protest. Besides, they way they are doing it is stupid. Most people, myself included, really have no idea what they are protesting. I know it's about cop brutality, blah, blah, blah, but what specifically? I don't see them continuing the protest afterwards, unless it is to bring more attention to themselves in the form of boasting that nobody can tell them what to do. But beyond that, I don't see any of them actively trying to make anything better off the field. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. To me, the NFL and Team Owners are on the wrong side of this fight. NEVER go against patriotism. NEVER! You will never win. They should have nipped this in the bud a long time ago and took a stand. Even if that stand was to be neutral, by letting the players feel however they want on their own time, but not allow the disruption to the game. Instead they are backing the players, and are looking just as unpatriotic. The NFL, Owners and Players are all saying Trump is being divisive and trying to split America, but I say that it was them that have been divisive. They knew from the beginning that many Americans don't like this, but they did not care. It has been dividing us since CK did it last year, but "dammit, I'm a player and you gotta listen to me". Now Trump speaks his mind and the entire league loses their collective minds. He has just as much right to speak his mind as they do. Now, sometimes I wish he would go about things a bit differently... Calling them SOB's may not have been the best term to use, but you know what? It's what many of us think and say to like-minded friends. It's refreshing that he speaks his mind without political-correcting every sentence that he speaks. Sometimes its embarrassing, but it is refreshing. Besides, I see these players do and say way worse things than "SOB" every week. If they are that big of a P***Y that that is what offends them, perhaps they should try ballet instead of football. Lastly, the NFL itself is being horribly hypocritical here. They have fined players for wanting to do their own form of protest or issue awareness because the method took place in the form of an addition to a uniform on the field. The player that wanted to wear pink in honor of his mother with breast cancer, the player with a mental illness that wanted to wear green shoes to bring attention to mental health day, the player that wanted to wear purple cleats to bring attention to domestic violence. All of them fined or told "No you can't do that". But now the NFL says the President can't tell THEM what to do? They put the kibosh on many good forms of issue awareness, but cop bashing while kneeling over the American flag is the one they get behind? Shameful!

  2. There has been enough platitudinous malarkey written here and other places to fertilize Texas... Some of us here (...me, at least...) think this whole thing is part of a bigger issue... That issue is the Post Modern World View that seeks to de-construct everything... period... That includes government (...especially, if it's a republican form of government...), the legal system (...no one should be oppressed, questioned, or detained by brutal police, even if he resists or does something dangerous and stupid; especially if he is "a person of color"...), The Capitalist System (...It's oppressive and some folks get more than others... that aint fair...), White People (...they are the original colonialist, expansionists, oppressors ya know... All indigenous peoples are greater than them...They had a paradise before the white man came...), and lastly; its about "... I don't like the duly elected president of this country and i'll politicize everything in an attempt to make him look bad and spit on everyone of you country bumpkins who voted for him..."; and i may even spark enough civil unrest to undo everything that the 2016 election brought to the USA... We can quibble about whether Trump should have started this conflagration; but it's irrelevant... He did... On a personal basis and from a political standpoint, I think it was a masterful move that allowed him to wrap himself in the flag, tap into the disgust of most working Americans, and call out and expose for all to see the over-privileged babys of the NFL, their enablers, and cheerleaders as what they really are... A bunch of Overbearing, Selfish, Anti-Law and Order, Self-Centered Anti-everything but what they think is appropriate on all levels nitwits... It's playing the "tribal game" that the demorats love so well on his terms... A helluva idea, i think... It paints these clowns for exactly what they are... There are those here who think that somehow their freedoms have been lessened as the result of this feud... I got news; they aint... Just because some official of government (...Trump..) says somethin ya don't like on a personal basis; it doesn't follow that it smacks of "suppression of political expression" and disbandment of "The Arena of Ideas"... Far from it... It doesn't follow that their speech, no matter how heinous and distasteful to some ears, has somehow nullified the Bill of Rights and the Constitution... You enjoy the same right to "speak in the public forum" and be free of government oppression for it that you always did (...except for when the demorats were runnin things... Ask some of the right leaning groups about it that had to talk to the IRS...), no matter what Donald Trump says, and no matter who he picks a verbal slug fest with...He said his piece; they are sayin theirs... That's how it works here with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; which these narcissistic babies, and some of you here seem to think is a one way street... You need to think a bit and understand that right of "Freedom of Speech" in the Arena of Ideas extends to all citizens... Even the president... Think about that a bit... It includes, you, me, "them", even the Trumpster... The lesson here is that there are lotsa folks, some of them here, that need a civics lesson... I aint nearly as afraid of Donald Trump takin away anyone's freedoms, as i am the mindless bunch of children and the damned Democrats and Establishment Republicans takin em away... Your mileage may vary... Thus endeth the lesson... Rantin leroy, the "Free Speech for All" zealot...

  4. I'm a revolver man, have been for awhile. Many years ago it was illegal for dealers to sell handguns in Tennessee. Note it was not against the law to own one, just you couldn't buy one from a dealer here in Tennessee. But, then, here in Memphis, both Mississippi and Arkansas were so near, and mail order was in vogue at the time. In the fall of 1954 I sent off and bought a Colt New Service, well used, for the princely sum of $32.95! It was an old Canadian Mounties New Service, originally .455 caliber but reamed for .45 Colt. It was my first custom job, converted to .44 Special, S&W rear sight, Micro front, home made walnut stocks: That many moons ago. Bob Wright

  5. Well. I am back from the lets just listen to one side planning commission. I sat through and listen to several tell their lies and half truths. Even one guy that bragged owning an AR-15 and how much fun it was to cut trees down with it in his back field, then explained how we just cannot have a Gun Range here, where would the bullets go and all that lead, the guy that has a trap range on his lot but having a Professional built range in the area with safety officers is just out of the question. One lady admitted to being an NRA member. or my kids just would not be safe.... or the poor Deer's we hunt. We are thinking about going to the full board and by passing this local group. They had no interest in hearing our response on the issues. We have 500 members needing a range with over 400 on the wait list. I cannot see 12 locals overriding this if we can satisfy all the requirements. End of Rant. for now.

  6. I can't quit watching professional ball games over this because I quit watching, listening, or following professional games several years back. I became fed up with the attitude of so called professional athletes in general and lost interest. I have only watched very few collegiate games over the last few years for many of the same reasons. If I want to watch a game where the player is playing for the love of the game and competition I will go catch a high school game. The athletic talent may not be as developed but there is a heck of a lot more heart in the game. Secondly, does anybody remember the baseball strike? Yeah, how did that work out for them. People turned off to professional baseball and it still hasn't fully recovered. NASCAR and professional bass fishing boomed though. Prior to the strike you rarely ever saw a NASCAR race on TV and bass tournaments had not been televised prior to that. Networks had to fill air time thus the launch of both. Now if they want to drop the NFL and replace with, say, Women's Beach Volleyball, then I may become an avid spectator all over again. Providing they properly recognize the National Anthem.

  7. You're doing exactly what so many others are doing and, frankly, it surprises me given what I have perceived as being your level of intelligence via so many of your other writings. What I mean by "exactly what so many others are doing" is confusing, perhaps willfully, the difference between the assurance you have that the government won't forcibly deprive you of your right to free speech (the First Amendment) and the assumption that you are guaranteed the same protection from your employer and customers if you choose to exercise your freedom of speech on their time. I agree that these morons should have the right to express themselves without fear of reprisal from our government. That is guaranteed to them and is what you signed up to defend when you took your oath. BUT when these players choose do so on their employer's (the NFL and the team owners) time, and on their customers' (the fans) time... then those other parties get a say in things. The employer can choose to terminate their employment if their actions were counter to the company's ethics and values, and the customer can choose to do business elsewhere. I'm pretty sure you know this and agree with it as well. But for some reason, you chose to make the other connection.

  8. My RCBS seating dies use the same seating stem for .44 Special, .44 Magnum, and .45 Colt, so I keep the seating stems separate in a wooden box. (I have this affinity for wooden boxes) My die is already set for crimping, so in order to get the correct seating depth, I made up some inert rounds: I then run the correct dummy round up into the die, then insert the seating stem until it contacts the bullet nose. And, just for a newbie to show off, my shell holder box: Bob Wright tipoc

  10. So far I've only missed episodes 3 and maybe 4, haven't gone back to see about 4. Anyway, last night's episode addressed Kent St. I've always known about what happened there but never really seriously thought about it, much less look at that tragedy in light of currents events. What would have happened if those kids didn't scatter and stood up to the National Guard that day? What is going to happen when today's demonstrators cannot be controlled by tear gas, batons, hoses, and rubber bullets?

For this, and Driver's License, go to the old Perimeter Mall at Summer and White Station, near the Royal Furniture store. Not too well marked but the cars gathered will alert applicants. For permit renewal, its a breeze! Bob Wright

  17. Some of the old timers used a corn sheller to take the husk off. After they are dry and ready to crack sprinkle water on the dry nuts and let them sit a while before cracking with a walnut cracker and the hulls will be flexible and not shatter to bad, sometimes you can get the meat out in halves. Love black walnut ice cream and my wife makes a 4 layer black walnut cake that will tantalize your taste buds.

  19. I've got the RPR in 6.5 and love it. It's my first bolt gun, and first time shooting long range. I got the Strelock app, and the PST 6-24. I sat a friend down at the rifle who had never shot long range either and both of us were hitting a chest sized target at 630 yards with consistency. Very impressive, very fun to shoot and this will definitely take a deer on my land very soon! I hope to have my range out to 900 yards by the end of winter. Can't wait!

Hell of a guy, but he had problems later, especially after The Wall opened up in DC and he started having reunions with guys he served with. I've never felt safer in my life... in a hotel room with a bunch of amped up Marine vets, telling war stories. You could scoop up the intensity in the room with a spoon.

  32. How to Sell Your Guns When the Market is Slow September 24, 2017 This is an article that I have been tempted to write on several occasions now, but each time I questioned whether the timing was right or if the message would be welcomed and so I postponed. Recently, however, there have been quite a few threads and individual comments made about the difficulties of selling firearms during a "slow market" so I think the time is right. But First, Some History... I do not want to dwell too much on this particular point, but I do believe that it is salient to pause for a moment and observe the current political climate as it has directly influenced the state of firearms sales across the nation. Up until the last US Presidential Election in November of 2016, the firearms industry was booming because people were afraid of both who was then currently, and who might have been next, occupants of the White House. Fear of scarcity or outright prohibition of a thing absolutely drives up demand for that thing, and subsequently the cost of that thing. During the Obama Administration, we lived under the constant specter of another weapons ban and we saw supplies of certain firearms and ammunition all but dry up. What was left to be found almost always had a high price tag assigned to it. When Donald J. Trump was elected, gun owners and prospective gun owners all sighed an enormous collective sigh of relief and practically overnight the firearms industry was dumped on its head. The fear was gone. The incentive to buy was gone. Warehouses of ammunition and firearms that had been rushed to production ahead of what could have been a Hillary Clinton White House were suddenly quiet and stagnant. And so, the firearms industry did what any industry does in cases like this: It suffered. It cut costs. I dumped products at prices that were unheard of a month before. The fire sale began, and it persists to this day. Why Should You Care About Any of That? The reasons any of that is important to you are these: That tactical rifle you bought a few years ago and paid nearly $2,000 for is probably being sold new today for less than half that price. That handgun you bought last year is probably anywhere from $50-75 cheaper this year, brand new, and probably comes with twice as many extra magazines straight from the manufacturer. Today, retailers are competing against you in your role as the Seller for the same sales you are trying to make. They are able to offer brand new merchandise today for prices that would have been reasonable for you to ask for a gently used item this time last year. To snare a buyer on the secondary market in this economy, you have to distinguish yourself and what you are selling in some way that makes it more appealing to the person debating between your gun and that brand new one in the store. So, How Do You Sell in a Slow Market? I have been paying very close attention to this for the past few months and these are my observations. They are not the gospel, but they seem to be holding up under their own merit so far. As with anything, there may be exceptions to any or all of these, and if that works in your favor then I am going to be very thrilled for you. Do your research. Check the retail pricing and availability of whatever you are trying to sell. Mark your price accordingly. Understand that if you are priced too close to retail for a new item, most folks will go buy the new item instead. Also, check and see if a new version or model of whatever you are selling has just been or soon will be released. Prices on old versions almost always go down when a new version is out or is imminent. Eat The Extras. Those expensive night sights that you put on your handgun? Consider eating the cost of those. Point that out as an incentive to buy your handgun rather than the one in the store that doesn't have them. The same goes for tossing in a few extra magazines if you have them, or other small accessories. Obviously, there is a limit to how much you should be willing to eat of the cost of an item, but even then be willing to discount whatever you are adding to the "package price" so that it is compelling to a shopper. Break Up The Package. If you don't want to eat the cost of too many extras, or if the price of your package offering seems to be turning shoppers away, consider breaking apart the package and offering the core item at a cheaper price and then liquidate the accessories separately. This is expecially helpful if you have non-regulated accessories that could be sold on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc) that do not allow gun sales but do not prohibit accessories. Bigger audiences can mean quicker sales on those types of things. Understand The Impact of Modifications. This is going to hurt some feelings, but it has to be said. Modified guns are harder to sell. Think twice before you take a soldering iron (or pay someone else) to your Glock's frame to stipple it. The same goes for custom paint jobs or hydro-dipped graphics. Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder (YOU) in those things, and other people may not care for them at all. Don't be surprised if your stippled Glock with skulls and crossbones hydro dipped graphics doesn't sell quickly, or at all. Take Good Pictures. The addage that a picture is worth a thousand words is no more true than in advertising. People tend to want to see what they are buying. Take pictures of it and post them here or link to them elsewhere in your post. Ads without photos tend to be overlooked. Invest Some Time. If you post an advertisement, come back to it once a week and bump it back to the top of the "new items" search by replying to the thread. Reduce the price a little after a week or two, if you can. Be willing to engage with prospective buyers and answer questions. Entertain counter offers if you can. It takes a little time but it keeps your advertisement in front of eyeballs and that's what matters. Pull It Today and Sell It Later. Real estate brokers know that if a house has been on the market for too long, it goes "cold" and people stop looking at it. The buyers can see how long a house has been listed and assume something must be wrong with it if more than a reasonable amount of time has passed. Take a cue from that and de-list your items after a while if they don't sell. Come back later and list them again. I hope this helps you all in some way. The current environment is a buyer's market and biased against the seller, both at the retail level and on the used market. Gun stores are going out of business and folding up left and right. So are manufacturers. The ones who are surviving are relying on things other than gun sales to keep money and buyers coming through the doors. Now is the right time to buy firearms and ammo cheap and stack them deep. The political climate is guaranteed to shift again and when it does we will all find it hard to believe that we had it this good (as buyers) in days past. Above all, be patient. If you can afford not to sell a firearm right now, you might want to sit on it for another three years and see what happens with the next Presidential election. Trump has been GREAT for gun owners, but terrible for gun sellers. We might not be so lucky in the years ahead.

  33. A couple of ancillary observations... The post above should be fairly timeless and be relevant 3, 6, or even 15 years from now, but these comments are particular to the current time: AK-47/74 pattern rifles seem to be an exception to the slump in pricing and sales, especially if they were manufactured in Russia. These rifles are actually rising in cost. The past few years have seen AK and AR-15 pattern rifles completely trade places in terms of marketability and cost. Ten years ago, you would have been laughed out of town if you tried to sell an AK for more than a comparably equipped AR. These days, you can buy an AR that you'd actually want to shoot for less than $600 and that sort of money only gets you into a decent AK. Glock 19s tend to still do well on the secondary market because everyone needs one even if they don't really want one. The advent of the Generation 5 Glock 19 doesn't seem to have softened the resale value of the previous generations too much as the Gen5 hasn't had a chance to prove itself and Glock is notorious for having to fix problems with the first few batches of any new generation. The caveat to that, of course, is that modified Glocks don't always sell very quickly unless the seller prices them reasonably and in accordance to what has been done to them. Stippling and custom finishes (like Cerakote) are very polarizing and might only suit the personal taste of the seller. Revolvers, 1911s, and so-called "Brown Rifles" (hunting bolt actions, shotguns, etc.) seem to be fairly immune to the pricing slump since they were never really in the same level of demand as the tacti-cool stuff and consequently, the market was never flooded with a surplus of them. Collector guns are almost always immune to market fluctuation, which is why they are collector guns. When the rest of the firearms market is racing toward the bottom, there's an advantage to being priced at the top - especially if you can command it. Don't expect to see collectibles selling at bargain prices unless someone is really hurting for money and doesn't have a savvy friend to save them from making a hasty mistake.
