  1. As Dave says, the biggest thing national reciprocity would achieve would be to take the right to create carry laws from the states and hand them to the feds. Even worse, it would open the door for Kalifornistan style regulations to be put into place in all states. Many proponents like to point at drivers' licenses and an example of how carry permits ought to work. Those folks don't seem to consider than many of the regulations that apply to automobiles, emissions, etc. that begin on the left coast are often used as models for federal regulation. Why, then, do people believe that firearms related rules would be any different? https://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/30/epa-allows-california-emissions-rules/ It is no stretch to imagine the fed - especially under an anti-gun administration - deciding, "Anyone with a valid carry permit issued by any state can legally carry in any state that has a procedure by which a private citizen can legally carry a firearm. However, in the interest of uniformity the list of 'California legal' firearms will be applied to all privately carried firearms in the country. Henceforth, only firearms on that list will be legal for sale to private individuals and any firearm that does not meet the criteria to be on this list will henceforth be illegal to carry by a private citizen." That isn't even considering the likelihood that the fed will likely decide that, since a legal permit holder will be allowed to carry in any state, the rules, regulations and requirements for carry should match up to those of the most stringent state so that state isn't being 'forced' to allow those with 'less training' or who have been 'less thoroughly vetted' to carry in their state. National reciprocity is not a boon to gun owners/legal carriers and it certainly isn't worth trading away other rights in order to achieve it.

  2. Yeah, non matching numbers bring it down even more. If you can get it for $100, that's a good price that you can feel comfortable paying. They're great, soft-shooting rifles. Plenty of No. 4 , Mk. 1's still out there too add later. For it's age it looks in pretty good shape otherwise, many WWI vintage Enfields are beat all to hell.

  5. Come October, we will be in our new home 3 years. About 9 years ago the previous owner put an addition on the back of the garage with a basement below the garage floor level. When ever there is any kind of steady rain for a couple of days, the basement floor would flood out from water seepage threw the back block wall. Apparently the builder wasn't to bright when considering water management of the foundation. The basement floor slab is poored on ledge rock so if you seal up the back wall with no footing drain..... I get what I had..... water intrusion. SO, A jack hammer was out of the question with arthritis setting in so level one is 7.62x39. After about 200 some odd rounds, I drained out a lot of the item 4 back fill. I still had to get back about 5 feet in there to where the water was seeping in with a small trench and the x39 was proving not so effective on the floor slab. So I stepped it up to some M2-AP. Its from the 50's but did a fine job. Then about 80-ish round of old M2 ball to excavate the back fill. About a dozen hang fires and equal amount of duds got me to where I wanted to be. A good flush of a garden hose left no puddles behind but a nice fast drainage. Now I don't want folks to think this is particularly a safe thing to do since a bullet frag could very well have been along with the showers of concrete chips flying out of there but I have to admit.... it was fun as all get out blasting the crap out of that slab & back fill! Time to clean the ol 03-A3 tonight 8)

  8. Technically they're my boss's uncle's guns, but he's trying to sell them for him. He doesn't really care too much what he gets from them. Said he'll sell em to me for about $100 less than what they appraise for. It's not a matching numbers gun, unfortunately. I assume that comes from the FTR mark, but I'm not terribly worried about matching numbers if I can get it for ~$100. He had several other guns, but this one would definitely come out as the cheapest (but most interesting to me). My ideal Enfield is a No.4 Mk.1, but for $100, I'll take a No.1 Mk.III with some history behind it

  9. The rear handguard and broken forearm will cost about $140 to replace if you get them from here: https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/viewcategories.asp?idCategory=62 and then it might be the devil to get all the wood to match. The forearm could be repaired if you were so inclined and had the talent to so so. Considering that and assuming it is all matching numbers with good bore condition I wouldn't pay too much more than $250 as it is, or at least try not too. That's just my opinion. But if it's the boss I would through a few extra $$ at it, you know, to promote a harmonious work environment.

  12. Before the remnants of hurricane Nate made it's way to our range, some friends and I were able to squeeze in a ATA Big 50 shoot . I didn't think about taking an action picture until we were in the process of shutting down so this is my best attempt of photographic evidence I shot today.

  17. I think it is fair to say that, back when I worked out several times a week, I had a couple of guns. Sadly, I got out of the habit, haven't really worked out in years, had a couple of serious illnesses and now my former 'guns' seem to be more along the lines of NERF launchers. Very sad.
