  1. Darn kids, got up late. Gave kid my stand so he would have the best opportunity. 45 minutes later, bang, his first deer! Nice 8 point. So his fat, old, out of shape dad helped dress it, drag it to truck, get it home then hang it in tree. I am now kicked back with cinnamon rolls the wife made and coffee. All in all a good day.

  2. My friend dropped a doe about 2 minutes before this one came in. Then 3 spikes came in and hung out for about an hour. Would have stayed longer but with the high temps we wanted to get that meat on ice. Lots of fun watching the spikes play after a successful hunt.

  3. One of the reason I bought a lathe and mill was to do fun projects. Decided that this is going to be one of my long term projects to hopefully complete over the coming year. Just ordered prints. It is for 22LR. Perfectly legal with no stamps, etc so long as you use a hand crank. No electronics or it becomes a machine gun. Using the prints from this site if anyone else is interested. http://www.gatlingguns.net/index.htm

  6. Well, after convincing my self I probably would never own one of these due to gun show sticker shock, a funny thing happened at the GB C&R listings. I bid the opening bid price and not a dollar more. Were all the Marlin fans out there asleep at their key boards? Apparently because I ended up with this fine example of what Marlin was making back in 1905. Sure, it doesn't have the much desired full crescent butt plate, the barrel joint was described as a bit loose and the poor thing has a bulge in the bore up front as so many do..... but still, the rest of the gun is totally unmolested in original fit and finish with a triple A fancy feathered crotch wood butt. At $575 + $46 to ship with insurance added, this nearly passes for a Religious experience! One major plus is the wood to metal fit. You guys have no idea how much it grinds my guts to see a stock that was sanded below the metal edge lines. Especially on a fine old early cartridge gun. The model 36 (pictured) I have came to me that way . After a thorough examination of the loose barrel shank, I have a plan to repair that and I have a older shutzen gun works .308 stainless barrel that will get turned into a liner and soldered into the 26 inch long octagon. Both of the square bolts are 30-30's & ya gotta love the 9 round capacity of the 1893. Yup, put another neat project on the back burner....

  7. As we rapidly approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I am going to challenge myself to come back to this thread each day this week and post something that I am thankful for. I hope that maybe some of you will join me in this and post about things that you are thankful for as well. Even if you can't do it every day, perhaps try to do it as often as you can this week? To start off, I am thankful for the health of my wife and children. 2017 saw the addition of another member of our family. We've had more bad experiences than good with bringing children into this world, but God has been merciful and given us a beautiful daughter and son along the way. Zeke is the newest and he is a constant reminder of how amazing and precious life is. How about you all?

  8. I went to the range yesterday morning for the first time since my surgery. It has been over seven weeks since I fired a shot. I took this old Super Blackhawk: I've been shooting close up, duelist style; that is standing, one handed, as ranges not over ten yards, and using a six inch stick-on Shoot -N-See target. I had figured a pretty bad outing, for lack of practice for so long. Much to my surprise, I didn't do too badly. Shooting at eight yards, twenty-five rounds went through the black, and left a large jagged hole. Why did I do so well? Well, I did spend considerable time dry firing. This helped keep my muscle tone and my concentration up to par, and I'm sure that dry firing practice did keep me in shape. Bob Wright

  10. I am thankful for my wife. Without her my life would be very different and not for the better. I am thankful I am finally starting to heal. It has been a slow, difficult process but I am better now than I was just a few short years ago. Even though I still have a long road ahead I am hopeful again.

  11. I'll give it a shot. I'm thankful for the positive changes in my life over the past few years. Grown up healthy responsible kids, a happy wife, good work and a new community. Any challenges I met along the way to get to this point are trivial compared to how happy I have becme in the last 5 years. Happy Thanksgiving!

  12. Ok, so in the article the school shooting was mentioned and it was stated that the bad guy doing the shooting was shot and killed by police officers. Am I missing something or are Police Officers not good guys with guns? Yea they responded after the fact but what would ahve happened had they not showed up? Same way with the Church shooting. How many more people would that maniac killed if it were not for the good guy with a gun shooting him as he exited the church and even persued him along with another good guy. There was another church 3 miles down the road. I think the guy that wrote this article has an issue wih his elevator not making it to the top floor, maybe not even leaving the basement. To reply to Brats statement! It's damn sure not the Military I served in............

  13. Hit the stand this morning. Watched a spike come in and hang around a pretty good while. He moved on to the thicket behind me, and I could hear some deer moving around back there. A little while later an 8 and a small 4 came out together from the same thicket behind me. The wind had been in my face the whole time, blowing toward that thicket. I guess my attempt at homemade cedar cover scent worked! I watched that 8 for just a bit, wasn't sure if I wanted to take him or not. But then I thought about last season and how they all went nocturnal right after opening day. So I consulted with the Texan, we came to a consensus, and he sent out a 170 grain .30-30 round by way of greeting. The 8 just dropped without ever taking a step. Not the best or biggest of deer by far, but it's meat on the table. Plus it broke the ice after letting myself get skunked last year. Now I can relax and try to find a nice buck and then some more freezer meat. Site won't let me upload a picture of it though.

  17. A spike walked up rite at 8:00 and I shot him. He ran down into a hole and it took over 20 minutes to find him because there was no blood trail that I could see. The bullet lodged a piece of the heart in the exit hole which was large. I was surprised that I saw anything as windy and warm as it was. There was a few at the locker but slow for opening day of gun. I just stepped out with my dog and it's windy again today but much cooler than yesterday. I think I'll hang out and watch the race today

  19. Let me get this straight.....government agencies refuse to comply with existing law, which is a criminal offense - so the solution is to provide financial incentives? Wtf? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
