  3. I just recommended a thunder to a friend based on what you have posted here in the past. He went and shot one and bought one on the spot. Fits his needs perfectly. Shows that everyone has different circumstances. Most important thing is to pick something you WILL carry.

  5. Along those lines I would probably go with a five shot snubbie .357. Although I occasionally carry something else, similar to 56FordGuy my 642 is what I carry 98% of the time I can carry and has been since I got it a few years back. However, when I go camping, etc. I like to have something with a little more 'oomph'. Right now that is usually either my GP100 or my Taurus Tracker in .44 Mag. but if forced to go with only one for everything I'd want a snubbie and would choose .357. For an 'everything' carry handgun I simply believe that the .38/.357 is just about the most versatile caliber that is commonly available. I wouldn't want an Airweight in .357 so I'd probably look at something like an SP101 (would kind of like to have one of those, anyhow.) I have fired and even carried an SP101 that a friend let me borrow for the purpose of trying that out. Being heavier it didn't pocket carry as easily as the 642 but for a 'one gun' it would be doable and I would probably get used to the extra weight. I'd carry .38+P in town and full-house .357 in the woods.

  7. FNS9c. Slightly larger than the G26 but more concealable than the G19. 13+1 with a flat baseplate is the sweet spot for me. Toss the 17 round mag with sleeve from the factory in it and you’ve got your home defense gun covered.

  8. You answered your own question. The other alternative is like any number of other states do it. I.e., gun signs don't have the force of law per se, and you must be asked to leave, facing a possible trespassing charge if you don't. But to do that, the law can't be based on it being a crime to walk past a sign from the gitgo. TN is one of a minority of states that begins all gun possession law with the fact it is illegal to have a loaded one period. ("A person commits an offense who carries, with the intent to go armed, a firearm or a club.") Then gives a bunch of exceptions in various situations. Then tells you where you still can't even with some of those exceptions. Etc. It's all backassward. - OS

  10. I've been thinking about putting a scope on my K31 for years, because I believe that my eyesight is the limiting factor as to the accuracy of the rifle. After doing some Googling, I've found 3 different ones. https://www.brownells.com/optics-mounting/rings-mounts-amp-bases/rifle-bases/aluminum-k31-clamp-on-mount-sku100000725-1666-6109.aspxThis one was the original one that I was going to get, but I didn't know if the mount being offset to the right of the line of sights would be a nuisance or not. I've read that the amount of windage that would change is almost negligible, but it might get annoying always trying to adjust for it. Then I found these 2 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XJD59NQ/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2VPS98XFQ6FU0&colid=N0K6KLP2TKLY&psc=0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075NFCR7Z/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=IXKY62MEU75GQ&colid=N0K6KLP2TKLY&psc=0 One is a "scout mount" which I kind of like because it would be completely out of the way of loading/working the action. But I'd also have to buy a scout scope with a longer eye relief. Which may or may not be a good thing. I haven't had any real experience with them, and they seem to be maxed out around 7x, which I'm not sure if that'll be enough zoom or not. The full length version on Amazon, is double the price. Also, not sure how solid it would be since it's attached to the rear sight base, and extends all the way back. Plus is looks like they tried to make it to where it would be out of the way of loading and manipulating the rifle as best they could, but I can see how it could still be in the way more than I'd want. So does anybody have any experience with these (or other mounts) I really don't want to have to drill and tap my gun.

  11. So I Googled this and found a lot of people saying that .410 is a perfectly reasonable gun for turkey and a lot of people saying anything less than a 12 gauge 3" high brass will make the birds laugh at you and call your mom rude names. So I thought I'd ask you fine folks, given my situation. I've never hunted for turkey. I've chased rabbits and squirrels since I was 12 and and four years ago got permission to deer hunt on a property. Now that my nephew is 12 he's also enjoying chasing rabbits and tree rats. Since he steals my .22 for this, I've been considering picking myself up a .410 for hunting those littler critters. The property owner where I deer hunt has been telling me about all the turkey, and after seeing them on trail cameras I let him convince me that 30-something isn't too late to learn to hunt turkey. But can I use the same .410 for turkey that I'd use for squirrels and rabbits? If it helps, I'm a grade A certified cheapskate, so I'm looking specifically at the Hatfield $100 .410 at Walmart. If I'm aiming for the head, it seems like a .410 would do the trick if I'm patient enough to let them get close. Am I dreaming? I couldn't live with myself if they called my mom rude names...

  12. I was able to buy my old duty gun because we switched over to Gen 5 G17 in 9mm. This may be a regular old Glock 22 but it saved my life in March 15, 2012. I was able to pick it up today and its now all mine. I wont go into all the detail but when I needed it to fire it did. I was holding it with one hand and standing quite awkward. So for it to run when I needed it to , it shined. I got an Alpha Wolf 40-9mm conversion barrel and even a Glock 17 extractor , and the correct spring and plunger for it to be converted to 9mm. I'll still switch it back over to .40S&W to shoot some here and there but mainly 9mm through it.

  19. If he shows up again, this coming Sunday, we are going to attempt to get a picture of his plate. Leaders don't want to see unfriendly, in case it was someone trying to get courage to come in, to which I explained the guy has been doing this for a while now, and twice a weeks ago. They don't want us to seem overly aggressive so we will keep an eye out for the car. Thanks for the advice, and I agree with you guys, but we will follow their direction, for now.

  20. 642. It’s all I carry regardless, I’m not much for playing musical carry guns. [emoji38] Same gun, same place, every time. Muscle memory is a powerful thing and I don’t want to be fumbling around trying to remember where or what my carry weapon is should I need it.

  25. Well done. To be intelligently human and opinionated is one of the things that make us what we are. I'd like to think those of us here are intelligent enough to back away from the abyss of stupidity, or at least apologize for our lack of decorum. If not there's always the ban hammer or a little vacation. Let's see how quickly I'm proven wrong.....

  27. I thought a recent change in the law put some liability on a business owner who failed to protect you if he prohibited weapons on the property. https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2016/01/15/bill-allows-suits-over-gun-free-zone-incidents/78862948/ http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/30/tn-businesses-that-disarm-concealed-carry-permit-holders-now-liable-for-their-safety/ http://dailycaller.com/2016/07/01/new-tenn-law-puts-onus-on-gun-free-zone-property-owners/

  28. I don't know about any one else but this is a "No Brainer" to me. If you approach a place of business and they have any kind of gun ban sign up what so ever, just turn around and walk away. Go to another location that does not hvae Gun Banned signs up and do business. How hard is that to understand??????..................JMHO

  30. But why risk it. If you are arrested I can guarantee you will be out thousands of dollars in legal fees, even if it goes in your favor. Anyone going in front of a judge without a lawyer standing next to them will likely have a very bad day. I know I wouldn't go in front of a judge for anything without having an attorney present, especially if I was accused of breaking a law. Even if you are in the clear your arrest will always show up in a background unless you pay thousands to have it expunged. Another thing, any cop that shows up will not let you try to convince them the sign is wrong if they believe you have broken the law. Most cops will not know what the correct language of the sign so to them you will have violated the law by walking past the sign. Now a lot of cops will probably just tell you to leave but all it takes is one and you will be hauled away in handcuff, starting your long expensive process of proving the sign was wrong and that you were in the right for carrying past a sign whose intent is quite clear. To a jury of 12 you will be painted as a renegade gun owner who willingly violated the intent of the law despite being in compliance with the letter of the law. Best case scenario you will be out thousands, worst case you will be out your freedom and when you get out of jail you will not be the same person as when you went in. My freedom is not worth the risk of walking past any posting and my money is more valuable than to give it to someone who doesn't allow me to protect myself.

  31. Like dwarren said, the .410 is an experts guns, even though it is often touted as a beginners or youth shotgun. I grew up with one and one thing about it, if you can bag game with a .410, you can do it with any shotgun you find in your hands. Much easier with a 20 or 12 ga.

  32. I have found the .410 is more of a experts gun. For turkey I would suggest a 12 gauge.
    1 point
  33. Its not a good idea. Turkeys are tough birds and the head/neck is very small target. You'll want a massive amount of lead headed his way to increase your odds of an ethical kill. If you use a .410, you will drastically cut your effective range and risk wounding the bird. 20 gauge can be used effectively but again, you'll limit your range. 12 gauge is what most people use and for good reason. There are plenty of cheap 12 gauges out there though.
