  1. I just got back home from the MEPS center in Nashville. It was THE hardest thing I've ever done as a Dad to watch my son get on that bus and head out for Parris Island today. Pray for him that the Lord will be with him and give him strength and resilience, and that my son will trust in Him. I told him yesterday that even though he may have the blood of warriors coursing through his veins, the blood of the Cherokee, the Seminole, the Blackfoot, the Norseman, all that pales in comparison to the fact that he is covered by the blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, the King of kings, the Lord of lords. I want him to remember that. And to remember that God will never leave him or abandon him.

  2. I happened to be taking some pics today and remembered this old thread. So I resurrected it just to show off a little. I'm quite fond of the .45 Colt myself. I just happen to prefer the Smith & Wesson versions. The one on the bottom right is a .45acp. But its still a .45.

  5. I’ve never shot a 75 but I can tell you the P-09 shoots great. I’m pretty sure I’ll regret selling the one I had.

  6. If it shots well, no need to worry about the barrel, but I would put a bit of penetrating oil on the muzzle nut. They have a tendency to seize up. Give the oil a bit of time to soak in and you'll be fine. They had switched to plastic tools because the required torque is quite low. With plastic tools there were fewer problems with over torquing them. That will be a good shooter! I had a 10" 41mag that was a great silhouette gun.

  8. I hope it does not pass. The biggest reason is once it is law they can change the rules or definitions to hurt those who they feel should be hurt. We see definitions being changed, often on a whim, making law abiding people into criminals overnight. And the worst part is we can’t vote out those responsible. It will be used to control, not give more freedom. I promise.

  9. No flaming from me, just an opposing viewpoint. Personally, I believe that having the Feds occupy a field that has, until now, been mostly a state decided issue will never, ever be a good thing - no matter the issue. The Fed is already overgrown and bloated - I don't believe we need to be supporting the idea of it getting even bigger and even more involved in such things even if it appears to benefit us, at least in the short term. A Fed that can tell all states that they must allow carry can, when the wind blows another direction, tell all states that they can no longer allow carry - or that they have to meet California, New York and Illinois 'standards' in order to do so, that they can only authorize people to carry handguns that are on the California approved list, etc. Think I am being paranoid? Ask yourself who the Fed and the EPA look to when they want to put new regulations in place. It ain't lower Alabama. It tends to be California. I believe it would be no different when it came to Federal carry regulation. No, thanks. I'd rather avoid those states where I can't currently legally carry or, worst case, deal with not being able to carry while I am there.

  10. Hello everyone, I just got my 50AE back from getting it Cerakoted and installing Hogue G10 Pirhana grips on it. Dave at BAM Customs in Murfreesboro did an awesome job on it

  11. My first handgun was a .45 Colt New Service, and I've had a lot of respect for that caliber ever since. Here, some of my .45s: The .45 Colt round has been around a long, long time. I believe the first cartridges were made by the old Union Metallic Cartridge Co. for Army trials. Soon Frankford Arsenal began production of the .45 Colt round. These were inside primed, copper cased cartridges: Though the .45 Colt round didn't last too long with the Army, as the Army adopted the shorter .45 S&W round shortly after. But the old round was, sort of, resurrected some years later for the Colt New Service M-1909 revolver: Old as it is, the old .45 keeps on truckin'. Bob Wright

  13. You don't buy a gun and take the class without practice. That salesman was more interested in the sale. Not good. I would never let a customer do that.

  14. A local gunsmith did the work. He took it completely apart to make sure there were no internal issues and said it looked great. Actually offered to buy it from me but I had to say no. I'm pretty excited to take it out and shoot. Hopefully that'll happen soon.

  16. It could come to that type of decision I suppose, as 6-10 states would file suit immediately if it were actually passed. - OS

  17. I'd agree on some of the first R1s, and even some current models. But the scuttlebutt rumors(for what they are worth) talks of poor QC on them and the new R9(?).

  18. Sadly, never owned a CZ rifle. But from listening to a couple of rifle guys I know; they are really good right out of the box. And I do mean 2...brother-in-law and my ole buddy the Rabbi, Bill Bernstien. I would like to have the 452(?), the 762x39 model though. I passed one by some years ago and have always regretted it. I went back the next morning, but it was gone.

  21. I thought/think that way at times. So I leave nothing in the car that's valuable or informative. Valet gets car key only. I carry a sling bag now, Thanks Santa, and have registration and papers from the glove box packed in one envelope so I can take it out when I need to. I've done that for years and years. But when my wife had her first knee surgery, I had to change my thinking. I'd just roll up to the door and get her out, then park it myself. Then recently she had Achilles Tendon surgery. And with a couple other issues of mine, I'll take the weather into account when I have to park somewhere. Us old farts have to be careful as we're getting more and more feeble by the day. And more susceptible to cold winds and rains causing problems

  22. Not worked up at all but national reciprocity will not fix anything. I can guarantee that if it were passed you would still be arrested, thrown in jail and have to fight it in court in states that will refuse to recognize it. Yes, you will be found not guilty, eventually, but by the time that has happened it will have cost you thousands of dollars and probably some of your property as well as your freedom. Think it won't happen? Look at Safe Passage Provision under the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA). Legally speaking, if you are just passing through a state you cannot be arrested for having a gun that is against that state's laws if the gun is legal in your home state. But we see it all the time where someone is just passing through gets stopped and arrested. Even having a firearm in your checked baggage when flying can lead to your arrest because some states refuse to accept the provisions of the FOPA. We have states who admit they intentionally target cars with plates from gun friendly states so they can pull them over to look for guns. So if national reciprocity ever does pass you will have a defense from prosecution but that is not a defense from being arrested, thrown in jail or having you life financially ruined by an overzealous state. Don't forget the wording only allows CONCEALED carry in another state. It also doesn't permit you to carry on state or local government property unless the state allows you to. Who owns roadways or highways? And because it will not change a single thing why let the government interject themselves into another part of our lives. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_Owners_Protection_Act#.22Safe_Passage.22_provision

  23. Good choice! I have a couple of 75s, and Steelharp and I have gone round and round on a pretty sweet 75B over the years. They are a bit heavier than most of us are used to, but awesome shooters. I predict you'll like it a lot...and probably will buy more. It's like Glocks, you can't own only one!

  29. If BHO passed it then his followers would VIEW it as bad. That is why he waited for the Republican leaders to pass it. Then the next time we have a Democrat controlled government it will be used to harm conservatives. Our "leaders" cannot foresee or do not care how the reciprocity will be used by our enemies in government. If we give the federal government control over ANYTHING they will abuse it and use it to gain more control over the populace. National reciprocity will be used to grief gun owners but most gun owners are too worried about NOW to worry about the future. The NRA has no interest in putting ANYTHING gun related to rest. They have become a money driven organization and when there is turmoil or uneasiness in the gun community it generates profits. They could easily end the bump stock ban but they instead asked for it because they know they can use the turmoil to increase profits. Remember they called for the ban but have now said they would oppose it but need more money to fight it. If we do not send in our donations they will let it pass. Time and time again the NRA support turmoil because it increases profits and refuse to get involved with things that could actually help us. Their desires are not in helping gun owners, it is in increasing profits while risking our gun rights. We have a super majority in Washington and yet we cannot get a single piece of pro conservative or pro gun legislation passed. We cannot even get anything repealed to help gun owners. The reason why is our "conservatives" in Washington are the other side of the liberal coin. Regardless of which party is in power they will continue to pass laws to make more and more of us criminals because once you are a criminal they can control every aspect of your life. We are not free, we are told we are but we are being controlled by the government in every single aspect of our lives. There is not too many things one can do now that doesn't require approval from our government or risk becoming a criminal. We do not have free elections, we are not free to do what we want and we are not free to say what we want. Our privacy is long gone and the majority of the Amendments of the Constitution are violated daily by those in Government yet we continue to believe we are free because we are told we are free.

  31. Am I reading these stories right? They had industry people in for testing of this gun, found it had issues with returning to battery, and shipped it anyway? I guess sending new guns in for a recall is becoming the norm.

  35. Speaking strictly for myself.....I would prefer the Feds keep their collective noses out of this issue. What may be ok during this administration, may very well head south if the Libs take control again. All the states I may visit are not an issue ( I don't visit all ). The Califs, Ill, NY, I stay clear. JMHO

  36. Jeez, 3 yards? Hide when you're around him! Biggest issue we had in our class were people who could not manipulate their weapon. A couple of women had issues. One had a brand new PPK/s and just could not pull the slide back. She could not grip it tight enough. A blow back .380 probably not the best choice for a petite woman.

  37. I think you would be better off trying to find a place out in TX or FL if you want to hunt hog on the cheap. I have been discussing hunting laws here in TN lately and mostly it seems that there are a few places to hunt them legally, because you have to be the landowner during non deer seasons, and during deer season it's limited on where you can hunt them.

  38. I started a thread on valet tipping just now. I'm curious to see how others do. For me, it depends on the location as whether I'll use the valet service. Downtown areas like Centennial where traffic is crazy, or when raining, or I can't or just don't want to walk, I'll do it. Skyline Medical, where most of my visits are, that's where I have to debate with myself on it. Rarely find a parking space within 100 yards of the entrance. And since the facility sits on the hill, it can get really windy up there. So cold or rainy days I'll use the service. When I've been restricted in movement, or sick and afraid of the weather for a long walk, I'll use them. If it's a nice sunny day...this old butt is walking and saving a couple bucks for ammo. Again, JMO.

  41. As a general guideline, if a person is even semi-competent at hitting the broad side of a barn, then they can pass the TN HCP test. It's stupid easy. Honestly, if a person CAN'T pass that test, they really don't have any business with a firearm in public.
