  1. If the federal government doesn’t act the states will. If the states don’t act the locals will. This is not going to end. Don’t ever get complacent or think that it can’t happen anywhere, including Tennessee.

  2. It's pretty rare that I'm actually tempted to downvote a post. Claiming that this fire is justified based on the actions of one salesman is pretty childish. I hope their insurance takes care of them and that they are able to recover financially. I'm glad no one was killed.

  3. I don’t wish a fire upon any building or business (my home could be next ). One common misconception is that merely being an employee of a weapons related business makes one an expert in all things weapons related . This is no more true than expecting an employee at McDonald’s to know everything about raising cattle. Simply educating the employee politely is probably a better choice than being “offended” and wishing bad things to happen to him and the business he works in. That being said , I do not believe that all weapons related businesses have been strong advocates for the shooting public, especially during the “bad times “. In fact, most have cannibalized themselves and us during those times. There have been very few that have not manipulated the system , one way or another, during the “panics “ to maximize profits and rarely , if ever , for the benefit of the customer. Many are now paying for it during “good times “ but not by fires and destruction, but rather those of us with long memories who choose to whom we give our money .

  4. Ran across this one recently and was very pleased with my first range trip with it. Rifle itself is all matching right down to the wood and cleaning rod. Bayonet does not match numbers but was a cool bonus I thought. The target shows my first 10 shots with it. This was only at 50 yards but that is the farthest distance my range offers. Enjoy! 5. Yesterday I was in a Walmart that is one of the locations I am not in very often. I noticed a sort of end cap rack/display of Ontario Old Hickory knives. At first I was kind of excited because I have always loved those knives and haven't seen them in a Walmart - or many brick and mortar stores, really - in years. My initial excitement quickly turned to disgust, however, as I noticed the word 'stainless' printed on the packaging. What?! To me the whole point of Old Hickory knives is that they are made of 1095 high carbon steel. Sure you get a little rust if you don't care for them but these inexpensive kitchen knives have always, to my experience, sharpened and performed better than any stainless kitchen knives at anything near a similar price point. To see these old favorites defiled by being made of stainless felt sort of like running into an old girlfriend and finding out she had recently had a sex change and now goes by the name 'Bill'. I just hope it doesn't mean that Ontario is going to stop making real Old Hickory knives in favor of these imposters.

  6. In Greensboro NC, the city counsel decided that they would no longer allow gun shows in the Greensboro Coliseum. That is not legal and these two men pushed back. The second guy nails it.

  7. Sorry you had such a bad experience there. Mine was totally opposite. They have always treated myself and my family with respect and courtesy. Also can't believe that you are pleased at a loss this large to a gun retailer. Seriously? Pretty vindictive in my opinion ........ We need these retailers and indoor ranges. They support our gun rights and have a vested interest in the 2nd Amendment.

  8. Thought I might mention that this Saturday I'll be going to SW Virginia to attend a grave marking by the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution for my 5th great grandfather on my mom's side Robert "Robin" Vicars. He served in Lord Dunmore's War in 1774 against the Shawnee and Mingo and then in the Revolution. He came to America from England as an indentured servant and made the most of opportunities in the new world. He is buried on his farm in Russel County VA. His daughter Molly married Joseph H Gilbert - the son of another Revolutionary War veteran from Virginia (Joseph Hiram Gilbert) and after much "begetting" down through the Gilbert line to my mom, I was the product. So if any of you happen to be Sons of the American Revolution headed for a grave marking ceremony in SW VA on Saturday I will see you there....

  10. Hey folks, it' been awhile since I was last here. Picked up a few guns since I was last on here. One in particular I'm really impressed with that I should have taken a picture of the targets. Shooting from 5, 10 and 12 yards all hits were within the size of a pie plate and the trigger is the best I've ever felt on a striker pistol. It's smooth and the reset is the best I've ever encountered. It's a long story and to keep everyone from falling asleep I'll keep it as brief as possible. Last month I shot so well in our monthly IDPA match with my G19, which I switch back and forth between a Kimber Pro Rapter .45, I decided I wanted a duty size gun for competition and a longer sight radius. I had my mind made up on a G34, that is until I walked into the local gun shop and our club treasurer was working at the time. They didn't have the G34 in stock but would order it for me, but he pulled out another full size nice looking 9mm of which I had never heard the name of before. He and the other sales guy working there were praising it and saying they both had one and loved it. So I fondled it for about 10 minutes, pulled the trigger some and checked the reset, etc. I looked at all the gizmos and gadgets that came with it and asked the price. With tax less than $500.00. SOLD! The pistol I'm referring to is the Canik TP9 SFx. There's nothing like buying a pistol first, then looking at all the Youtube video's and reviews afterward is there? Like any handgun, there are a few detractors out there, but most praise this Turkish pistol. The only draw back I've found so far was finding a holster for it, in LEFT - HAND, that was a chore. I'm anxious to see if and how much it improves my IDPA and steel match scores. Did I mention it comes with two - twenty round magazines? What a gun for the money. No, I'm in no way associated with them...

  11. My brother just traded for an AR and when he got it home, he noticed that it was marked 223 Wylde. He shoots mostly steel case ammo(Wolf, Silver Bear) in his other AR with no problems. Now he is worried that he won't be able to shoot cheap ammo in this one. I've read that some Wylde chambers are bad about having stuck steel cases. Does anybody here have one and successfully shoot steel case in it? Thanks

  17. Can't wait to make the move to Tennessee. There's no hope for ILLannoy. The Deerfield nonsense is catching on like wildfire. Suburbs around Chicago are holding "town hall" meetings on Saturday, in a very well coordinated left-wing effort. Here's a sense of what's going on. Caution: Depressing! Don't let Tennessee even begin to start down this slippery slope. http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68562&hl=

  18. LOL! It can be very confusing with PSA ordering. It took me a while as well, but finally did get it all sorted out. I recently bought a 4" 9 upper to go the pistol route with. It will look just so cute.

  19. These look interesting for us HiPoint guys https://www.redballsports.net/ If the mag lips are robust enough to stay in spec, they certainly solve the leading complaint of capacity and reliable feeding. In my case, if they work, I truly don't need another 9mm carbine considering occasional use and application. Will start googling reviews, if positive, will purchase and review here.

  20. For your information if you are interested in competition shooting you can shoot USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, and 3-Gun at MSSA even though you are not a member of the club. Non members are charged $12 to shoot the match.

  21. Read up on the hunting regulations for coyote. They have changed some over the last few years. Ask specific questions if you can't find the answer. I am sure someone here can point you to the correct regulation. Just FYI, coyotes are not considered big game. Just turkeys, deer, elk, and bear are considered big game if I remember correctly.

  22. You’ll be given the combo to the lock at DPRC. It’s not a bad facility, but the staff can be overbearing at times. I’m a member of MSSA now if you’d like to go sometime. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. Published April 05, 2018 FoxNews.com Students in Colorado who support the Second Amendment staged their own walkout Wednesday, in an effort to counter the pro-gun control rallies taking place across the nation following the deadly shooting at a Florida high school in February. Students at Woodland Park High School, an hour north of Pike’s Peak, began the 30-minute pro-Second Amendment rally with a moment of silence for victims of past school shootings. “I don’t believe that guns are the problem,” said student Haley Armstead. “I think it's more of the people and that people are trying to blame an inanimate object for something that's not them.” Another student, Christian Garcia, told FOX 21 more armed officers and trained teachers would “stop” or “prevent” further school shootings. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PLAN PRO-LIFE WALKOUT AFTER GUN DEBATE While student-organized and with no affiliation to the high school, the school district did allow the students to walk out and provided increased security through the police department. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/04/05/colorado-students-feeling-silenced-by-pro-gun-control-activists-hold-second-amendment-rally.html The rally comes days after students in Central Florida organized a similar protest in support of the Second Amendment after they felt silenced when the movement to honor the Parkland shooting victims turned political. “I’m pro-Second Amendment,” Rockledge High School junior and protest organizer Anna Delaney told WFTV. "I wouldn’t mind deeper background checks, of course, but the Second Amendment will not be infringed upon.” PARKLAND SURVIVOR KYLE KUSHAV ON MEETING TRUMP, HIS APP TO PREVENT ANOTHER SCHOOL SHOOTING Students walked onto the school’s track carrying the American flag and holding signs that read “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” and “I support the right to bear arms.” Another student said he participated to show that not all students are for gun control. “It’s all over the news right now that all students hate guns,” Zachary Schneider said. “I wanted to show that not all students feel that way.” Nikolas Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on February 14, killing 17 and injuring another 17 people. Last month he was indicted on more than a dozen counts of murder. In the weeks following the shooting, students across the country held a National Walkout Day, pushing for stricter gun laws. Nearly two weeks ago, thousands of people across the country held the “March for Our Lives” rally sponsored by the survivors of the Parkland school shooting.

  30. Anderson lower and upper, great rifle. Felt good knowing I was supporting a US Machine shop by buying American Made product as well.
    1 point
  31. You’ll never regret buying two, but beware... they have a tendency to grow into rifles, lol. I have built several Andersons. I never had a problem until recently I got a stripped upper out of spec. It looked like it wasn’t finished and wouldn’t even fit into a lower. I think that was a fluke, and I wouldn’t hesitate to get another. Their lowers have always been good for me. If the price is right, then go for it. If you want a smoother, blacker finish then Spikes or Aero Precision, IMO, but you’ll get a good build from an Anderson. I especially like the Anderson lower parts kit. With some polishing, low power springs and a long adjustable grip screw, I can get a really good crisp trigger.
    1 point
  32. My answer...yes. On both questions. lol I have a couple that have been done with Anderson lowers. They work. As to buying another. Sure...why not. If the price suits you, go for it.

  33. First understand that this would primarily be a range toy. My "go to rifle" is and always will be the Scout Squad. OTOH, the AR would be decked out as a CQB rifle, just in case. Second, I haven't absolutely committed to buying one. It could turn out like the last time I went to buy an AR. Remember the Y2K scare? At the time I didn't own a magazine fed, semi-auto centerfire rifle. I thought it would be a good idea to get one and went to a gun show with every intention of buying an AR. I was standing at the table with a rifle in hand and money in my pocket. But I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Instead I bought a used Federal Ordnance M-14A and you see where that led. Best choice I ever made. Besides, by the time I get to the gun show, pickins may be slim. From what I've seen on other gun boards, ARs are selling fast right now. It seems the 18 to 20 year olds are buying while they still can. Can't say as I blame them either. I'll keep mulling it over and see what happens when I get to the gun show. Or maybe I'll run across a good deal on a used one before then. Ya never know what might happen.

  34. Whisper, that just might be why I'm interested. For more than 20 years I've seen the black rifle demonized by the antis with them saying stuff like "nobody needs one of those". Actually, I don't need one. But ya know, I'm just enough of a a-hole that if somebody tells me not to do something, I'll do it anyway just for spite. Maybe I'm just finally fed up with the whole anti-AR lies and BS. Raoul: That always was the game plan. If I do get one, I'll go with the 5.56. The other calibers have their appeal, but I'd start simple with ammo that's readily available for sale OR easy to find in a SHTF situation. There's a gun show here next month and also my birthday. The Germantown show is always plumb full of ARs. It'll be a good opportunity to do some comparison shopping. I still haven't made up my mind, but just maybe I'll buy myself a birthday present.

  35. I've always wanted a Garand to appreciate and hopefully learn with. Happened across an AR after the last whoopla settled and I've only had it to the range once. I treat them as investments that I can play with a bit...

  36. I have s few ARs, for the above reason. I still prefer a Garand or M1A

  37. Watch the wind, they're sneaky and they will always circle you and nearly always come in from up wind. I've found them easiest to hunt in light winds. I've always used an AR in 5.56, they're not hard to kill, but you usually only get one shot. I have a cheap digital call and it works fine. Not bottom of the line, but definitely the bottom 1/3rd. They can get silly expensive.

  38. Thanks for the replies. I had looked at buying that exact BCG a few weeks ago and may end up just doing that instead. I was hesitant to buy the whole BCG without knowing if I would be running into problems. I will be ordering more spare parts tonight like firing pins, gas rings, etc. I've looked at buying some field repair kits that should cover those items. Should I worry about extra springs, detents, ect? . I don't shoot very often, maybe every few months and then it's usually 100-150 rounds. I also need to get some spare parts for my new Windham 7.62 AR. I have new mags and a Vortex optic on its way this week for the new gun.
    1 point
  39. Agree 100%. much easier to just get a complete BCG, not just the bolt. If you're worried about a part possibly breaking, it would make sense to have an entire extra unit ready to go, rather than just the bolt. Have you already gotten you "oops" spring/small parts kit squared away?

  40. I just googled 223 Wylde vs 223 remington and there's a lot of info out there. Doesn't seem like it would be a problem. Example: The .223 Wylde chamber is not a caliber, it is a barrel specification. All .223 Wylde chambered rifles are capable of firing both .223 Remington and 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition.

  41. You can't hunt here at night at all for most game including coyotes. A red dot is ok for a scope, but nothing that would project on the animal. Here is the hunting regs in relation to hours. Legal Hunting Hours 1. All big game and small game species (except bullfrogs, raccoons, opossums, migratory birds and the chasing of foxes and rabbits) daylight hours only (30 minutes before official sunrise and until 30 minutes after official sunset) except turkey open only until official sunset. 2. Hunting of bullfrogs, raccoons, opossums, the chasing of foxes and rabbits, and the trapping of furbearers is permitted day or night unless restricted by Proclamation. No foxes or rabbits may be shot while chasing/ training at night. 3. Hunting of migratory birds is to comply with federal regulations for migratory birds, unless restricted by Proclamation.

  44. Oh yea, well within range; I'd pop one at 100-150 yards easily with 115 grain blacktips.

  45. Can shoot them during normal hunting hours, year round, no bag limit. You may shoot them at anytime that they are causing harm or damage to you, dogs, or your livestock. They are becoming a very serious problem around my farm and I hunt them 24/7 for that reason!!!
    1 point
  46. Of course it will not match the 30-06 but if i'm not mistaken anything centerfire is legal to deer hunt with. If I were to hunt with a .223 I would make sure the gun is very accurate & only go for a shot in the neck bout 3" down from the head, but that's where I always aim. That's just my:2cents:. Don't take my word for it take a look at TWRA website for the info.
    1 point
  47. yes, .22 centerfire is legal in TN to hunt big game with. will it do the same thing as an '06? maybe, maybe not. with these smaller calibers on game like deer, alot goes into the bullet weight, bullet construction and most importantly bullet placement. place a 150gr .30-06 slug on the shoulder of the whitetail deer and most likely you've got venison in the freezer. do the same thing with a 45-55gr HP (remember, its illegal to hunt anything in TN with FMJ) .223 and you most likely have lost a deer. put that same bullet from the .223 just a hair off the shoulder like you would with a bow and you've got meat in the freezer. also make a headshot with that same bullet from the .223 and you've got meat in the freezer. the key word in that last sentence is "make a headshot", not fire at the head and blow off an ear. shots like that are for those instances you know you can place the bullet where you want...not for the average "hunt once a year Billy Bob" out there... just my .02 cents...
