  1. In the spirit of what are we as gun owners doing from an activism perspective: Last night I attended a meeting of “Common Ground” - a local Nashville group whose mission is to create dialogue to “bridge the red/blue divide”. The topic was guns and was the second meeting in a row on the topic. (i only learned of this for the 2nd) I am always wary of the word “conversation” to describe any such meeting, as its often code word meaning the “Left will tell you what to think”...but I went anyway, figuring that if I dis not it, what information would otherwise neutral minds leave with. Here is what I found The group of around 30 people, mostly all white and upper class were presented with three “experts” to briefly talk about their views/position on guns and “gun violence” Unsurprisingly, a woman from Moms Demand Action was one “expert”, but then members of the local Well Armed Woman chapter were there as well, along with a Metro Police officer. What I learned: The police shared the fact that they now share bullet forensic data with a national database and have learned that most gun crime is committed by a small number of people with the same gun - meaning that for example of 100 gun crimes committed, it may be from only 10 guns/people. Thus the bad apples are truly bad but small in number. He shared straw purchases are a big problem and wished that gun prosecutions were stiffer. The MDA lady parroted their talking points - you know them so no need to repeat. I was impressed with the poise of the Well Armed Women who made the argument for better education on the nature of the 2A. We then broke into smaller groups and discussed what we learned from the “experts” that surprised us, and then began a pretty open free for all on what to do about “gun violence” and what we would want to know more from the “experts” Notably a quick poll of our group found that it was split equally between those who wanted to eliminate the 2A, those who did not, and those who wished to modify it. Those who wished to eliminate it used the same arguments we are all familiar with - the 2A does not mean all arms, you don’t “need” an deadly ar-15, etc etc. the ones in the middle I quickly figured out just lacked information on what the current laws actually were and why certain “common sense proposals” might not be common sense or may be illegal or otherwise lead to unintended consequences. What I found was standing up for the 2A as an absolute right (which it is) makes you sound like an extremist, yet demanding its absolute removal does not.....strange.....but wait....theres more As we went around this issue of the nature of the 2A I was able to educate the group on Heller and McDonald. I said whether you like it or not, the SCOTUS has affirmed the 2A and specifically the ownership of weapons in common use (ie not nukes which one wag tried to argue was therefore allowed under an expansive view of the 2A). That matter being settled, I said regardless of ones personal views, any discussion on guns in America must take place in the context of McDonald. Unsurprisingly the banners refused to recognize the validity of a SCOTUS decision they did not agree with. I was able to explain the 4473 background check, why there is opposition to Universal Background checks (requires a government list of gun owners and could be used for confiscation), What I found is that the people in the middle were responsive to the information versus the emotional arguments. In fact, the emotion might have brought them to the table but they want a “meal” of useful info. Did i change any minds? Of those who wanted to ban the 2A - no. Of those who want to”modify it? Absolutely. I had a couple of one to one convos after the meeting and it was amazing to learn what people would say in private vs in a group. And we were all strangers so it should not have mattered! Bottom line - Show Up. Speak sensibly and educate people. Ignore the crazies and speak with those who are persuadable. PS: at the end of the meeting the Moms lady asked for a group photo, which i thought was particularly inappropriate since it was not her meeting but rather one she was a guest speaker at. I asked if it was for her groups facebook page and yes was the answer. I refused to participate and took her to task for not informing those in the pic of her intentions. 3. Well in all honesty this brass was a to do some day project a buddy of mine started but he passed away last February and I would have hated to see someone just get it from his wife and scrap it for junk so I decided to get it and sort it in my spare time which came quicker than expected but the Heart Attack and by pass surgery has given me the time to do this so that is why I'm doing it. Don't want perfectly good brass going to scrap yard.................

  4. Thanks - one thing about the Left is that they show up and make themselves seem more powerful/popular by doing so. We must do the same and not cede the battlefield of ideas to them. Ever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. I recently bought a 19X and the rear sight was a little farther off to one side than I like. It zeroed fine but that is a pet peeve of mine so I sold it. Went back to the store and inspected every single 19X they had and found one that is about perfect. I have yet to shoot the second one but it should be no different than the first one and be amazingly reliable, it is a Glock, as well as surprisingly accurate. I will say I have not been a fan of Glocks despite carrying them for work and every day carry. But with that being said I really like this one. For those that don't know the 19X was Glock's submission to the military service pistol program. The only difference is the submitted version had a manual safety and the civilian version doesn't, which I like. But beyond that it is identical to the gun submitted to the military for trials. Even though the 19X is a generation 5 gun it does have some slight differences from other generation 5 Glocks. What makes the 19X different than any other Glock is it has a 19 length slide on a full size, 17 frame. I hear of people saying Glock should have went with a longer slide and a shorter frame and that this is the worst gun ever but I think it is great, especially for a EDC. The shorter grip frame of the 19, as well as the compacts, do not allow for a full grip and without a good grip accuracy suffers. Another problem with the more compact guns is the magazine capacity. I know you can use a full size magazine with the compacts but if you are going to use a full size magazine why not have the full size grip to go along with it. I hear people saying it is not concealable but I beg to differ because most people are oblivious to their surroundings. If they are going to notice the grip of a full size pistol they are going to notice the grip of a compact but 99% of the people will have no clue a person is carrying a full size pistol. The slide being shorter has some benefits. Me, like most people, spend a lot of time sitting each day. And with a longer slide that can get uncomfortable as the gun is pushed up. With the shorter slide it is a lot less of a problem. The 19X is a perfect gun for those who spend most of their day sitting without giving up magazine capacity. People are screaming the 19X has a short sight radius, these are the same people carrying the super compact Glocks that have an even shorter sight radius. One difference I noticed from other generation 5 Glocks was that the front of the grip extends down to act as sort of a magazine protector. Standard Glocks have a cut out so a person can drag the magazine out easily if it doesn't drop free, the 19X does not have the cut out and instead has that extension to the grip. I like it because it gives you more grip. The 19X also has a maritime spring cup which helps it fire after being submerged in water. It comes from the factory with tritium sights that are bright and easy to see. It also comes with a lanyard loop but it is easily removed like any grip plug. The generation 5 Glocks have an ambidextrous slide release, 19X included. I am not a lefty but I like the idea of an ambidextrous slide release. The one thing that the ambidextrous release does that I do not like is it exposes the internals to crud unlike previous versions. Probably not a big deal but you can look in and see the trigger bar moving. The genreation 5 Glocks also have replaceable backstraps. I currently use the largest backstrap with a beavertail. I do not have large hands but with the large backstrap it feels better, and shoots better, in my hands. It, like most generation 5 Glocks, seem to shoot better than any other generation of Glock I have ever shot. I have used and shot every generation except the first generation pistols and they have shot well enough but this thing surprised me with the accuracy. Touching holes at 7 yards was simple. Glock is bragging about their new "Marksman Barrel" and it is unlike any other Glock barrel because they are not polygonal anymore. The newest generation Glocks also have an integrated magazine well to help with magazine changes. I feel the 19X is a great deal in Glocks. It is $600 but it has tritium sights that are easy to see and seem brighter than most tritium sights I have seen. It comes with three standard G17 magazines in FDE, two of the magazines have +2 extensions raising their capacity. The one thing I HATE about the gun is the color. If it had been black it would have been a home run but instead it has a FDE grip and a burnt bronze/baby poop colored slide. One thing most people are not going to like about the generation 5 Glock is no parts, other than magazines, will swap with the previous generations. The barrels are different and the slides will not interchange. Not sure about trigger parts though. Speaking of magazines the 19X will use previous version magazines but will NOT work with other generation 5 magazines because of the base plates. Swap base plates and any magazine work. Another option is to remove the grip extension on the front of the grip. This is Glock's version of a "commander" pistol.

  9. Armslist shows a blued 3" EAA for $300 in Knoxville. If the budget is under $500 and it has to be .357 (instead of. 38 Special), then your best bet is finding a Charter, Rossi, or EAA at a pawn shop.

  11. Doug you have a scale? .45acp, 89.58gr/ea, 78.1cases/#, 12.8#/1000 There are 78 pieces of 45 ACP brass in one pound. 1000 pieces of 45 ACP brass in 12.8 pounds.

  12. Unless you are really, really lucky you’re not going to find a full sized .357 under $500 that isn’t cosmetically challenged. New ones in that range just don’t exist that I know of. SIA on Middlebrook does have a S&W model 13 in the case that doesn’t look all that bad for $599.99 without original grips and box of course that they might work with you on depending on who you talk to but I can’t guarantee that. Saw it yesterday but didn’t even ask to see it as that model is one of my “needs” but I want a P&R with proper grips.

  14. Here's a thought for them: They are the FOOLS who, under the guise of safety and security (read stereotypical British tyranny), do not allow their "subjects" the right to defend themselves or their families. And they never will. Instead they will continue to allow their subjects to be slaughtered rather than allow them any means to protect themselves. They cannot bear the thought of not having control over their subjects, subjects whose lives are absolutely meaningless to them compared to their retention of power. They have what they wanted, complete power, and they will never give it up, no matter how many lives are lost because of it. Because in their minds they cannot be wrong, just like the communists in this country who want the same things for us.

  17. Lots of reports of accuracy issues on the 224 Valkyrie. JP rifles first line of barrels will not have an accuracy guarantee. There was speculation that this was related to 1:7 twist not being sufficient for 90gr but recent evidence seems to disprove the theories around twist. JP, airborne arms and others have been measuring the ogive of the 90gr FGMM and found that the jump from ogive to lands is too great. 60gr Nosler is showing good accuracy and to apprears to be related to this. Based off of this, I think Federal was buying into their own propaganda and released this caliber prematurely. Chambers, or maybe bullet design need to be re-evaluated. My hope is that new chamber specs are released so as to come up with a more consistent ogive to lands jump that allows the current 4 factory rounds to all perform well. So, it’s a bit early to jump on the bandwagon. Personally, I like semi auto rifles that can perform well at long range and are weight conscious. It’s a bit of a unicorn, but I think this round has the potential to fit that, but still needs some evolution. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. I sold cars for a year prior to everything being on the net. So I’m sure it’s very different today. Good luck. The only advice I can give pertains to what happened with me the last few new cars. I buy vehicles the same way I buy guns; I do my research online, know what I want, and know what they cost. At that point I’m just looking for who has it, and the lowest price. I don’t want to go “looking” I want to go “buying”. The last one I emailed all the MidState dealers with the specific requirements I had. Most replied with a canned “Come on down!” reply, only two responded with specific information on what I told them I wanted. I went to see both. One lied to me about price; the other made the sale. The one that made the sale had an “Internet sales” person that didn’t try to hide pricing or tell me I had to come in to get a price. What an easy way to Buy/Sell a car. Don’t overlook the folks that use the email option on the website.

  26. I have one. I haven't shot it for accuracy. But it held 'minute of coke can' at about 50 yards during 3 mags (90 rds) of reasonably rapid fire. I did not notice any shift in impact point. Nice little carbine! I'm seriously considering making it an SBR with 12" barrel.
