I am the same way. I bought an Ed Brown Kobra Karry because I wanted a nice, solid 1911. Personally, I like the tonal quality of the Martins. That's not a secret even though my wife works for Gibson.3 points

I wish with all my heart that the NRA wouldn't make an endorsement in the FL senate campaign this year, or -- even better -- endorse the Libertarian. It would send the strongest possible message to Scott and other Republicans who pretend to care about the RKBA but are eager to sell us out at the first possible opportunity. Annoyed, Whisper2 points

For lack of a better term, she's the Director of Shared Services in the corporate office without the title...yet. She manages Treasury, Accounts Payable, and Payroll departments. She anticipates them adding the Accounts Receivable department to her by the summer making it a true shared services unit.2 points

Well, out of necessity, I'm starting a new gig. I'll be at Rivergate KIA as a salesman. I know nothing about cars, but the sales manager says he's excited to have me on board. He calls me their "token honkey." He seems to think I'll do very well. We'll see. Come buy a car. Buy lots. Prove him right, and help me earn my "token honkey" title.1 point

Well, I pulled that as a class 4 vehicle. Seems like there are discrepencies or wrong links on Wikipedia. My bad, just say 3 of them and call it good. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truck_classification1 point

Depends on purpose. For recording, the 18. It's not as boomy. Live, the 28. The boominess makes it better suited for that. I will say, I have found for recording my DX1 is superb. Loud, balanced, and EQ flat is perfect. More affordable, too.1 point

Here in Chattanooga, I got my picture taken at the title and registration office. They have a kiosk there. No waiting or anything. Then I mailed them a a check. No DMV visit required.1 point

The other thing is that the SCOTUS doesn’t generally grant cert. until there are two conflicting rulings from two different courts of appeal that could cause the same law to treat citizens differently in different parts of the country . The supremes will generally allow law to be interpreted badly as long as it’s interpreted badly for everyone.1 point

Unfortunately they’ve got to have the cases to take up before they can render an opinion. That really didn’t start happening until the Black Panthers started toting around weapons in the ‘60s causing a lot of state legislatures to freak out accordingly. While you can count the cases before Heller regarding the Second Amendment or mentioning the Second Amendment on two hands - some of the decisions are interesting in what they say. For example, while the Dred Scott decision regarded the descendants of slaves inferior when it came to standing with the Court, it did imply in its decision that all free men could "keep and carry arms wherever they went." You get a couple of post Civil War cases regarding the rights of former slaves. Interestingly Presser vs. Illinois in 1886 restricts the right to assemble as a militia while respecting the individual right to bear arms. You get a post-NFA case in 1939. But there's just not a lot before Heller. Here is a decent listing of the cases and summaries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_firearm_court_cases_in_the_United_States1 point

Thanks for the reassurances, fellahs. As for the analogy, I thought it would get the point across and it seems it did but maybe I should have said, "It felt sort of like finding out that Ruger had started making Redhawk and Blackhawk revolvers out of polymer and zamak."1 point

You get what you pay for. I've bought a couple of pinned and recessed model 19 Smith and Wessons for less than $500, but you have to have patience.1 point

50 "soldiers" wielding automatic weapons ( since it seems everybody in TWD has a FA) is going to really use up a lot of ammo, those 6 guys with the single stage presses are going to have to get after it ...1 point

I drove past it yesterday on a home depot run and decided to pop inside having never been to the lebanon armory before. The show was a bust for me - but I am looking for milsurps. Plenty of new guns to look at, and a reloading vendor plus the usual gaggle of stuff. One idiot vendor was selling the “solvent traps”. Aka supressor kits without the exit hole drilled. I actually listened to him make a pitch to an customer about how it makes it so much easier to clean up solvent versus an oil filter. Who the hell worries about catching solvent. These are purely sold as a questionable NFA prison time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

True this! I have some old Old Hickory kitchen knives I've has since the late 70's and they get razor sharp extremely easily. Minimal effort on my part. I have to make sure we have band-aids in the kitchen for my wife, and warn her, when I sharpen them. I picked up a couple of additional Old Hickory's about 8-9 years ago, and while decent knives, they don't hold a candle to my earlier versions. Jab...I agree, stainless steel Old Hickory's are a blasphemous proposition. But your analogy is a bit troubling...1 point
-
It kind of looks like they still make the carbon steel knives and the stainless stuff is a different product line outsourced to whomever. http://ontarioknife.com/cutlery/old-hickoryr.html1 point

Picked up one today. Went to the range and ran about 200 flawless rounds through it. Shot it side my side with my vp9 and vp9sk. Trigger was great and gun shot really smooth. Minimal felt recoil and more accurate than I.1 point

Wickard vs. Filburn gets overturned and this whole show falls apart. That’s why they offed him1 point

SCOTUS is very unlikely to hear and rule on this at a time of deep passion on both sides . They will punt , for now , and wait for an appeals court to create a contradiction with the Maryland ruling . They hate entering the debate during its height .1 point

It's pretty rare that I'm actually tempted to downvote a post. Claiming that this fire is justified based on the actions of one salesman is pretty childish. I hope their insurance takes care of them and that they are able to recover financially. I'm glad no one was killed.1 point

I am an electric guy. I own a few acoustics. I have zero anecdotal experience or expertise to offer here. I however am an advocate for buying a quality less expensive guitar and having it modified, finished and set up by a quality luthier. Being a hobbyist luthier, I have $100 guitars, that after the proper parts and work, play as well as $1500 guitars at half the price. But again, in the world of electrics, that is more easily said than with an acoustic. I really like my Recording King Dirty 30s... A nut and bridge go a long way.1 point

I'm not sure how well that would be, but probably not. I'm certainly not computer savvy enough to figure out how to post a YouTube video. I'm not a good enough shot to own a Colt Gold Cup National Match pistol either, but I still enjoy shooting it.1 point

Greg... The thing with the guitar is the "what are ya gonna use it for" thing... My bunch (...not me...my youngin...) is pretty musical... Everything gets played here... The best thing is to play or have someone play 'em all... Pick the one you like... Ya got two great places there in Nashville... One is George Gruhn's pace, Gruhn's Guitars, the other is Carter Vintage Guitar right down the street... Ease on over there and take a look, and remember this; all guitars aint equal from any manufacturer... It's kinda like pickin a girlfriend or wife; pick the one you like... For what it's worth, Joe has a Golden Era D18 that i think is out of this world... If ya are old enough to remember the great Earl Scruggs playin the gospel lead ins on the guitar; they were done with a D18... Probably a 1930's era one... A simple mahogany guitar with an adirondack (...red spruce...) top... listenin leroy...1 point

Yes, but does it fit tall big people? To put it this way, I couldn't even get into a Cadillac CTS 2-door with the seat at its lowest setting. We had to go with a XTS 4-door, and it's still hard to enter/exit. Once I got into it it was great!0 points
