  1. Cops sometime work long shifts. Some work two jobs. I don’t buy the 15 hour long shift disoriented BS; but that’s just my opinion. Sometimes you just make dumb azz mistakes. I was a trained Police Officer that took more people into custody in a home or business burglary than I can remember. I would not have called for back-up if I found my own door open. Even if that’s department policy (which I doubt) I’m sure it’s not law. However… as soon as I knew someone was inside I would have backed out and used the outside wall for cover. If the person didn’t respond or comply with my commands I wouldn’t have shot him unless I was being attacked or thought I saw a weapon. Short of being shot at I can’t think of a situation where I would fire without having a clear view of my target and believing him to be an immediate threat. If I had no response whatsoever I might yell for someone to call 911 or I might try myself. Of course arm chair quarterbacking and hindsight is always 20/20. This is just discussion; we still don’t know what happened. The city of Dallas needs to step up….sooner than later. Of course it’s murder; is it justified? Nope, not unless she was attacked. It appears that it was voluntary. Do I think she will be convicted based on what I am seeing now? Yes. Do I think she will do time? Yes, more than a citizen that isn’t a cop; but not much. I’m not familiar with the DA in Dallas at all. If this Officer was on Chicago PD that States Attorney would be asking for life for a cop. Unfortunately for the victim this Officer made bad choices; choices that she won’t be able to walk away from.

  2. It was too nice to go to work today, so off to the lake I go. I catch a fish, and toss it back thinking it was a stripe. Then another, then another. They don;t look right. I look in my fishing guide and find they are yellow bass. That's a new one on my as far as I can remember. Since there's no limit on them, I began throwing them in the livewell. I ended up with a bunch of them. They are now filleted, and soaking in salt water. Anybody here ever eaten them? I hope they are passable as food. They sure were fun to catch anyway. I also brought back some catfish and large bluegill I only saw one more boat all day. It's gonna be hard to get up and go back to work tomorrow.

  3. Exactly; same way on any job. On the Department I was on they had a system to handle that; some do, some don’t. But only one person is responsiable for that. If you have Police committing crimes; pick up the phone and call the Sheriff. If it’s the Sheriff call the TBI. Like any crime it will continue if the citizens keep theirs mouths shut. Isn’t the Ex-Rutherford County Sheriff still in jail?

  4. The process of the CMP and the cost have made me lose interest.

  5. You were right, my friend. They were very good. I'll be bringing them home when I can from now on.

  6. I couldn't agree more. Only thing I could add would be if the door was forced or just open. The answer to that might dictate a change. In my department you didn't perform a residence search alone. Businesses, on the other hand, we did alone if no sign of forced entry because it's amazing how often businesses fail to lock up at night.

  7. No union in Missouri where I was a cop. It isn't allowed by law. On a small department in 1993 I made $24,000 per year. No, I didn't F'n steal to supplement my income, nor did I violate anyone's rights in the performance of my duties. The F'n mayor was the corrupt one in the city.

  8. I knew you would like them if you like fish. The good thing about them is they are plentiful and when you find them schooled up you can catch a bunch of them quick. Sometimes you will find them mixed in with the bigger stripe and be able to catch some of them and have a mixed bag of fish to eat. From now through about mid November you should be able to find schools of them pretty easy in the creeks on points in shallow water as the water temps drop. Next time try rooster tails in White or Chartruese in the medium size.

  9. It's oil and water. There's more than a few cops who've got a chip on their shoulder about being (dis)respected. They tend to be forced to interact with people predisposed to disrespect authority. It's a recipe for disaster.

  10. You are correct that it is a catch 22. This video was just released of a cop being very polite and ends up getting shot. Fast forward to about 2:40 It really is not fair to arm chair quarterback decisions that have to be made in split seconds.

  11. Indeed. Its a catch-22. Stuff happens really fast and they've got to react. One poor decision can cause the wrong people to die. At the same time, it seems like a lot of these events involve people completely ignoring the police. A fraction more patience and politeness on both sides would go a long way.

  14. Not I. While I need a true GI 1911 my head is slowly starting to take control of my wants. From the pics I’ve seen I simply will not be happy with an 80’s reparked specimen. Plus, I really don’t want to go through the hassle. Good luck to you though. Hope you make the cut and look forward to seeing what you get!

  15. There's a reason for that vibe. Police spend most of their time dealing with people in negative circumstances. After awhile you look at everyone negatively and form that "Us versus Them" mentality. Here's another thing: I worked in an area of metropolitan Kansas City, MO where most of the people that I encountered were white. It is for that reason that I arrested far more white people than black people. But every time I had to stop/arrest a black person I was accused of stopping/arresting them because they were black.

  16. You can make excuses forever, but it seems like murder to me.

  17. It would take either a poorly trained, or extremely dumb, police officer to stand silhouetted by the hallway light in the doorway. That makes you a target. It's also dumb to not have a back-up in a situation like this particularly when you know someone's there. Now being off duty she may not have a radio, but it's a good bet she had a cell phone.

  18. I did say some additional info...yours did not mention that she supposedly gave verbal commands that were ignored just that she saw the figure and shot him.

  19. I used Rooster Tails with my boys because they would have went through night crawlers like water through a strainer. When we would get in a big school they would catch a fish on every cast and they got tired of catching before the fish quit biting.

  20. I have a couple sets and I'm very pleased with them. I recommend getting on their email distribution as they have 20% off sales a couple times a year. Black Friday is probably their next big sale, that's when I have bought mine. There are pros and cons to steel plates vs ceramic or more exotic styles of armor. It just comes down to your budget and intended use. When Ar500.com was first starting out they made a plethora of YouTube videos shooting their plates with everything imaginable and showed the viewer the success and failures. Demolition Ranch also has numerous videos destroying or trying to destroy plates sent to him by Ar500.com. Check out some of these videos and you might be surprised how well these plates hold up. They are certainly heavier than ceramics, but they are a fraction of the cost, multi-hit capable, and don't need to be x-ray tested periodically like the ceramics. Very low maintenance. I don't drop my plates or treat them bad, but it's nice knowing that if I did drop them or if they bounced around in the back of the truck they wouldn't potentially be getting cracks that lower their protection ability. When I was in the Army our ceramic plates were collected up and x-rayed twice a year, and we were always amazed how many had to be replaced from normal wear (not from being shot). I personally cracked a ceramic plate on an obstacle course. Not that I do anything crazy like that anymore but I don't have the money or desire to deal with ceramics. To me the only plus side to ceramics is the weight, specifically the lack thereof. So if someone is wearing their plates for hours at a time or wearing them everyday then it might be worth looking at ceramics. But for most of us that just want a "just in case" set I would advocate strongly for the Ar500 plates. Edited to add: They are as comfortable as wearing a weight around your neck/shoulders can be a lot of that comes down to the carrier style you choose. I have a bit of a gut now and they certainly are not as comfy and maneuverable as they used to be. And I think it's hard for anyone (myself included) with a pronounced gut to not look ridiculous wearing body armor, it's kind of an oxymoron situation I think. Picking a carrier with straps that are a bit wider will help distribute the weight across the shoulders and mitigate the "cutting in" feeling, though it will still be uncomfortable after a couple hours.

  21. Be absolutely certain of who and where your neighbors are before letting goats roam. I'd also confirm you're legally allowed to do that.

  22. I took two boxes of nightcrawlers. I caught them until I ran out of nightcrawlers. We'll have them for supper tomorrow night. Man, the wrather was great today. I wish it would stay like this for a while. I never did get a largemouth to hit anything.

  24. I'm going to wait till the entire story is out before making a conclusion but as someone else has already said it looks fishy. I don't think anything fishy is going on now that Texas Rangers have been brought in the investigate the shooting. I only have 1 issue with what I have read so far. Why can't the news media write a headline that reads Police Officer shoots man in his apartment thinking it was her apartment. Why do they have to make sure a race card is played every time. He was a man that got shot while in his own apartment by a police officer that made a mistake thinking it was her apartment. She should not get any special treatment for her mistake. If the guy would have been white would it have made any difference??? Would a white mans family not be hurting right now also. It is a terrible shame it happened at all and the race card is totally in-material. A man lost his life period................JMHO

  25. How are they not collectible? Other than the government arsenal refinish done in the 80’s or whenever, these are straight from Army storage. The military stopped buying 1911’s in 1945*. * we don’t need to hear about modern purchases by the Marines of finish challenged Colt’s or any other special acquisitions. Y’all know what I mean.
