  1. Hey, folks! CSA has another NRA Basic Pistol and NRA Pistol Instructor combo weekend coming up in November. For those who would like to teach handgun carry permit classes or NRA pistol classes, we're offering the NRA's two-day pistol instructor certification course. And if you haven't already had NRA Basic Pistol (now a prerequisite for instructor certification), we have that class the day before, so you can cover everything in one weekend. NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting When & Where: Friday, November 9, 2018 (CSA HQ; Murfreesboro, TN) Name of Training Organization: Citizens Safety Academy (CSA) Name of Instructors: Tiffany Johnson and Aqil Qadir Cost of Training: $75.00 Course Info: No prerequisites; No experience necessary. This course covers the universal safety rules, the fundamentals of marksmanship, and pistol operation, selection, storage, and maintenance. Great for brand new shooters, veteran shooters looking for a refresher or training documentation, and everyone in between. Participants will need a reliable handgun, eye and ear protection, approximately 100 rounds of ammunition, an open mind, and a positive attitude. Please let us know in advance if you think you'll need to borrow a handgun or purchase ammo from us. More Details & Registration: https://citizenssafety.com/event/nra-basic-pistol-shooting-11-09-2018/ (or see our Eventbrite page) NRA Pistol Instructor Certification Course When & Where: Sat-Sun, November 10-11, 2018 Name of Training Organization: Citizens Safety Academy (CSA) Name of Instructors: Tiffany Johnson and Aqil Qadir Cost of Training: $225.00 Course Info: This is not a shooting course; instead, it's for experienced shooters who are interested in teaching others about handgun safety and marksmanship. We'll cover adult learning theory, best practices for effective instruction in the classroom and on the range, and ways to properly teach the NRA's Basic Pistol lesson plans. Participants will need a reliable handgun, eye and ear protection, approximately 100 rounds of ammunition, an open mind, and a positive attitude. Prerequisite: The NRA now requires everyone to take NRA Basic Pistol before they can take the Pistol Instructor course. Sorry, no exceptions (even if you're the world's greatest super-duper-commando-special-forces-SWAT-top-shot-SEAL-sniper-operator, LOL). If you've already had NRA Basic Pistol, you can just send us your certificate and you're good to go. If not, you can take basic Pistol with us on 11/9 or with someone else, as long as you've got the pre-req before attendign the instructor course. More Details & Registration: https://citizenssafety.com/event/nra-basic-pistol-instructor-11-10-2018/ (or see our Eventbrite page) If you have any questions, please reply here or shoot us an email. 2. One of the challenges is knowing homeless people do pan handle but not all pan handlers are homeless; it is their chosen career. Had an opportunity to be a secret agent. Was at Kohl's, noticed homeless woman asleep along the parking lot borderline. Approached cautiously, carefully, and courteously. No response, she was in a deep sleep. Placed 2 bottles of water by her back pack and slipped a $10 in a side pocket then scurried off. You don't have to be classified as a saved Christian to do on to others and love thy neighbor

  3. This post always reminds me of a certain children's song without end. On the upside we gain new TGO members periodically, even if they do have questionable taste in 1911's

  4. Hi, everyone! Just thought I'd check back in and tell you all what a FABULOUS time we had at the Women on Target Clinic this past Saturday. The class was completely sold out (actually over-sold), and we had ladies of all stripes -- from teenagers to grandmas; from ladies who had never fired a shot to at least one who teaches classes herself, and everyone in between. It was a blast. We're already getting requests to schedule another iteration of this class, so stay tuned! For those who are interested, we'll be posting photos on our Facebook page soon. A thousand thank-yous to everyone who wished us well and helped us spread the word. - Tiffany

  7. Thats kinda what I was trying to do was find those that were truly homeless and willing to work verse the pan handlers. The ones that did work for me all went to a homeless incampments except 1 and he went to the Homeless Shelter because the Temps were going way down that night and all the people from the camp had already been picked up by a church.

  8. I seem to be the perfect height so that I've broken more than one clip over the years on the FRN models by catching them on door catches as I walk by. But, Spyderco has always replaced them, and it's been years since they used the FRN clips. They've been metal for years. Regardless, you'd be hard pressed to find better customer service in the industry. They've sent me screws and a variety of replacement parts over the years. Give them a call.

  9. I think it is great that people step up and help the less fortunate and I have done it from time to time back when I was working and making good money. I did learn pretty quick the difference between the true homeless and the not so true ones. I use to watch folks give to men standing on street corners holding signs saying "Will work for food" so I thought I would put some to the test I tried 11 different guys on 11 different days that I had odd jobs I needed done at the shop. Out of the 11 Three took me up on the work. I took them to my auto repair shop and just kind of had them clean up a little, maybe wash the office windows. Nothing really hard. With that person there would be 4 of us and I would spring for lunch that day. That evening I would take them back to where ever they were staying and stop on the way and get them supper and give them $30.00. I ask one of them one day about the guys holding sign like his but when offered work they would refuse. He said they are not like us. They are true bums and give the ones of us that will work a bad name so we try and stay out of their areas. I had a little fun with one of the non workers. He was holding a sign that Read Vietnam Vet will work for food! I pulled to the curb and motioned for him to come to the windown and he did. I politely told him he might want to change his sign to Gulf War Vet and he ask me why and I told him because I don't think you were born yet when the Vietnam War was going on. A couple days later he had a new sign and was 3 blocks from the corner he was using.

  11. While in theory I have to agree with you, in reality that was never possible. The cost of manufacturing in socialist run countries like Belgium is astronomical. Especially when you include all of the taxes that are levied on them, not to mention government run health care and retirement. Along with the cost of what they are required to pay their workers in both wages and benefits. Many European countries require 6 weeks paid vacations for most every employee. Put all of this together and it forces prices to be raised beyond what the market will bear. In the case of the Browning Hi-Power, that was over $1,100.00 by the time they ceased production. Americans always scream how they want quality. But they always complain when it comes time to pay for it. The end game was they simply couldn't charge enough for the gun to make money on it. Browning / FN was able to partially reduce costs by having assembly take place in Portugal. But in the end even that was too expensive to allow production to continue. This is also why Glock started assembling their weapons in Georgia instead of Austria. Now they even fully produce them here. As expensive as American workers are, they're cheap when compared to Austria along with the rest of Continental Europe. Turkey is different. Many American gun manufacturers like Weatherby are going to Turkey for many of their products. Turkey has an excellent reputation for manufacturing quality at a reasonable price that insures profitability. Assuming our political relations with them don't go south, this will continue to increase. You have to remember, if the manufacturer can't make money, it's not going to be produced. I don't care what you're making. Here is a video showing the Tisas plant in Turkey. I've worked in the metal working trades for over 45 years, and this is as clean and modern of a manufacturing facility as I've ever seen, or been in.

  12. We used to encounter a fair number of homeless people in college. We quickly adopted a standard response of, "I don't have any money, but I'll get you something from the cafeteria if you're hungry." One guy took us up on the offer. We loaded him up and he thanked us, sat down, and ate.

  17. For what it’s worth, I try to keep a few ready-to-drink protein shakes like Myoplex or Muscle Milk in the door of my truck during cooler months, too If you want to acknowledge someone’s humanity, but are wary for whatever reason of giving them money - protein shakes are good solid calories.

  18. Fawcett and her friend tried various poses around her pool, but nothing was working for them. McBroom then grabbed a worn Mexican blanket from his battered 1937 Chevy truck. He was using it as a seat cover. The photographer realized the stripes would match the suit, so he yanked the blanket from his cab. Who needs a fancy studio with lights?

  21. I don’t know about others’ experiences, but every deer that I’ve ever shot or seen shot with a slug had a lot of blood trauma. I don’t know if it’s just that there’s so much mass, or they’re slow moving, or some combination of both. But, there was so much damage to the meat that I don’t think it’s worth it.

  22. It was too nice to go to work today, so off to the lake I go. I catch a fish, and toss it back thinking it was a stripe. Then another, then another. They don;t look right. I look in my fishing guide and find they are yellow bass. That's a new one on my as far as I can remember. Since there's no limit on them, I began throwing them in the livewell. I ended up with a bunch of them. They are now filleted, and soaking in salt water. Anybody here ever eaten them? I hope they are passable as food. They sure were fun to catch anyway. I also brought back some catfish and large bluegill I only saw one more boat all day. It's gonna be hard to get up and go back to work tomorrow.
