  1. So for some reason you think I'm promoting a movie launch of something that happened like 41 years ago that most everyone has seen like 10 times. However......if anyone else feels I'm using "clickbait" to somehow fool you into looking at something I am promoting either here or in any of my past posts let me know and I'll delete this post. And if you (BlessTheUSA) see a post from me in the future just don't click on it cause heaven forbid I don't want to waste your time.

  4. If you’re serious about ending homelessness and systemic poverty, then this is a good step in the right direction. Better yet, we’d quit piling on fines over stuff that wouldn’t be a crime if you weren’t homeless anyway, thereby perpetuating the cycle. I can’t count the people I’ve met in the last decade who are working - but what’s keeping them from being housed is court costs and fines that simply keep growing. That’s not hyperbole. It’s literally multiple dozens of people. In Nashville, you pretty much have to have a car to work. That’s clearly not an absolute. But, our hub and spike transit system makes getting pretty much anywhere a multi-hour endeavor if you’re not lucky enough to have your destination on the same line. I get being “tough on crime” and all that. But, the system isn’t going to fix itself. People in poverty aren’t going to pull themselves up by their bootstraps - at least at any scale.

  5. I’m sitting on my air mattress in a church in Altha FL, I’ve been here for a few days and I’ll be back home tomorrow. I’ve been cutting trees and assessing damage to our churches here in the area in preparation for the arrival of larger teams in coming weeks. I worked in South Florida last year, I worked in North Dakota after the floods in 2011, I was in NC and SC a few weeks ago. I’ve been there and done that. I’ve never seen anything quite like this. This afternoon we drove from the west side of Port Saint Joe to Altha (62 miles I believe) and it was mile after mile of destruction. Almost all of the roadside power lines are down, 85% of the pine trees you see are snapped about 15’ up from the ground with the tops laying over. Most houses have trees on them or through them. The power is out everywhere. Altha is trashed, the church I’m staying in amazingly has minor damage, similar buildings close by were heavily damaged. Did I mention Altha is around 60 miles inland? I talked to a local today and he rode it out in his house with his wife, 155 mph winds for 1.5 hours. Scared to death. The only other disaster I’ve personally seen that compares to this is the Joplin MO tornado in 2011, but the scale here is much larger. Ive seen houses with trees across them and on their cars as well, families living in tents, everyone is cooking outside. These people are hurting and they need help. James

  6. Saw this announcement this morning. If this comes together, will be nice to have a great selection of parts available without waiting on shipping. https://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2018/10/19/gun-company-moving-hq-to-nashville.html

  7. Now GT, you're going to have to stop with the click bait titles. Now you know that we've never been to the moon. Oh, and the earth is flat.

  8. We were planing on leaving early this morning, but God had other plans. I met a guy last night, same age as me, wife same age as mine, 3 kids like me, a house... But my house still has the siding and shingles on it and isn’t surrounded by fallen trees. I put a extra saw in his hands and we went to work.

  9. I was gonna say that also. I magnified it up X900 and it got real blurry but it does look like it has a long tail a bear does not have.

  10. Found this on Google and may answer the question? Black Bear Color Phases. Black bears come in more colors than any other North American mammal. They can be black, brown, cinnamon, blond, blue-gray, or white.

  13. I'd be in favor of a restricted license. Back and forth to work only until all fines are paid. If caught driving anywhere else, jail time.

  14. Thank you Brasil. I have way too many photos eerily similar to that. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you and all in the area. It's a hard row to hoe getting back from that. But with the Good Lord's help and good folks like you my Brother, they'll make it back. Be safe my friend. Jamie

  16. I remember it! I went with my girlfriend at the time. Loved the movie and a few months later married the girl. I've always been a big fan of Star Wars. I've seen all the movies. Liked most of them. But the last few haven't been as good as the first trilogy. Rogue One was pretty good, but Solo just didn't work for me. I grew up on comic books and "B" sci-fi movies. Still love the stuff! I'm also a huge Star Trek fan and do watch The Expanse. I guess I'm just a certified Sci-fi junkie. I also like these "It happened in..." posts. Brings back a lot of good memories.

  18. My SIL's boss implemented a program at his company the beginning of this month and so far it is working. He has 4 homeless men on his payroll that Tommy hired that could pass a drug test but had transportation issues. Tommy worked it out with a couple of their other employees that do drive to job sites to work. They made arrangements with the guys that drive to pick up the homeless workers on their way to work and they will buy that emloyee a tank of gas a week. So far it has worked well and Tommy picks up one of them on the way in with his company truck. If this program works out they plan on hiring any homeless people that can pass a drug tests and stay clean on the random tests. These guys did work through a Temporary Service but they had to get to the Temp Service office as best they could. This way they get picked up were they live and dropped back off at where they live. They decided to do this beacuse they couldn't get enough help other wise.

  19. If you like sci fi you should be watching "The Expanse." First two seasons are on Amazon. Be aware there's some action. But also some pretty far-out imagining of what first contact with alien life might be like. One of the stars is Thomas Jane, who played the title role in the original "Punisher" movie and the short film "Dirty Laundry." I liked "The Expanse" TV show so much I read all 13 books in the series.

  20. Went and saw it back then. I was just the right age too, 13 or so. Like Christine Blasey Ford I cant remember how I got there or who I went with. I took my boys to see it but wife declined and went to her mothers instead and I do remember how were got to the theater and back. In a Dodge Ramcharger!!

  22. He's not using click bait titles. When I click on one of GT's "It happened in..." threads, I know for certain that I'll be reading about something that happened during some year in the past, such as 1974, 1977, etc. GT's titles are not deceptive click bait, but rather are very brief history lessons.

  25. I haven’t forgotten, Last week I passed up Dicks, which is 2 minutes from my house, and drove 20 minutes to Academy in Knoxville to spend $250 on shoes and another $150 for camping supplies. I hope they continue to feel the pain of their decision.

  26. While in theory I have to agree with you, in reality that was never possible. The cost of manufacturing in socialist run countries like Belgium is astronomical. Especially when you include all of the taxes that are levied on them, not to mention government run health care and retirement. Along with the cost of what they are required to pay their workers in both wages and benefits. Many European countries require 6 weeks paid vacations for most every employee. Put all of this together and it forces prices to be raised beyond what the market will bear. In the case of the Browning Hi-Power, that was over $1,100.00 by the time they ceased production. Americans always scream how they want quality. But they always complain when it comes time to pay for it. The end game was they simply couldn't charge enough for the gun to make money on it. Browning / FN was able to partially reduce costs by having assembly take place in Portugal. But in the end even that was too expensive to allow production to continue. This is also why Glock started assembling their weapons in Georgia instead of Austria. Now they even fully produce them here. As expensive as American workers are, they're cheap when compared to Austria along with the rest of Continental Europe. Turkey is different. Many American gun manufacturers like Weatherby are going to Turkey for many of their products. Turkey has an excellent reputation for manufacturing quality at a reasonable price that insures profitability. Assuming our political relations with them don't go south, this will continue to increase. You have to remember, if the manufacturer can't make money, it's not going to be produced. I don't care what you're making. Here is a video showing the Tisas plant in Turkey. I've worked in the metal working trades for over 45 years, and this is as clean and modern of a manufacturing facility as I've ever seen, or been in.

  27. Main reason to go with a 300BO is that the penalty in muzzle energy is less with short barrels. Goes along with the difference in muzzle blast.

  28. A couple of ancillary observations... The post above should be fairly timeless and be relevant 3, 6, or even 15 years from now, but these comments are particular to the current time: AK-47/74 pattern rifles seem to be an exception to the slump in pricing and sales, especially if they were manufactured in Russia. These rifles are actually rising in cost. The past few years have seen AK and AR-15 pattern rifles completely trade places in terms of marketability and cost. Ten years ago, you would have been laughed out of town if you tried to sell an AK for more than a comparably equipped AR. These days, you can buy an AR that you'd actually want to shoot for less than $600 and that sort of money only gets you into a decent AK. Glock 19s tend to still do well on the secondary market because everyone needs one even if they don't really want one. The advent of the Generation 5 Glock 19 doesn't seem to have softened the resale value of the previous generations too much as the Gen5 hasn't had a chance to prove itself and Glock is notorious for having to fix problems with the first few batches of any new generation. The caveat to that, of course, is that modified Glocks don't always sell very quickly unless the seller prices them reasonably and in accordance to what has been done to them. Stippling and custom finishes (like Cerakote) are very polarizing and might only suit the personal taste of the seller. Revolvers, 1911s, and so-called "Brown Rifles" (hunting bolt actions, shotguns, etc.) seem to be fairly immune to the pricing slump since they were never really in the same level of demand as the tacti-cool stuff and consequently, the market was never flooded with a surplus of them. Collector guns are almost always immune to market fluctuation, which is why they are collector guns. When the rest of the firearms market is racing toward the bottom, there's an advantage to being priced at the top - especially if you can command it. Don't expect to see collectibles selling at bargain prices unless someone is really hurting for money and doesn't have a savvy friend to save them from making a hasty mistake.

  30. Went and saw it back then. I was just the right age too, 13 or so. Like Christine Blasey Ford I cant remember how I got there or who I went with. “Just basic memory functions and also just the level of norepinephrine and the epinephrine in the brain that sort of, as you know, encodes — that neurotransmitter that codes memories into the hippocampus and so the Trauma Awesome Movie-related experience is locked there whereas other details kind of drift,” Ford said. Anyway If the rating was ok went with my friend on Bikes, If not my brother took me. My older Brother took me to alot of Vampire Flicks and other scary ghoulish stuff too. Lots of scantily clad girls!! Saw a string of low budget Star Wars knock offs afterwards including TVs Battle Star Gallactica. The genere got old quick for me. Lost all interest in Space dogfighting/ shoot em up movies by 17 and never watched any of the Star Wars sequel/prequels all the way through in later years. My favorite kid movie memories were this, the Planet of the Apes Sequels and the original POTA, (the best one) I saw on Television Movie of the week probably. Still love those! Sci Fi now to hold my interest doesn't need non stop action. In fact it's better without. The original Blade Runner was just the right balance of action and storyline for example. Remakes of movies like "The Last Man on Earth", "I am legend" suck IMO. Just because you can easily do great CGI effects doesn't mean you have to overload the screen with them. All these super hero movies are guilty of that I think. Too bad because I love Sci-FI. Anyway thanks Grand Torino! Good Thread. Mike
