  1. I’m not condoning the actions of the gate agent as they were thoughtless, indiscreet, and reflect badly upon her employer. But.... "She said 'Mom, why is she laughing at my name? And I said not everyone is nice and not everyone is going to be nice and it's unfortunate.'" The real answer to this poor child’s question is “because your mother is an idiot who gave you a stupid name that is likely indicative of her poor parental decision making skills. You’ll need years of therapy and a court’s assistance to undo what she’s doing to you. Good luck kid, you’re gonna need it.”

  3. My daughter, works in a mental health clinic, out of Charlotte NC, told me about one named KMNOP, pronounced Noel. If you name your kid different, you better have thick skin, and teach your kid to do the same. I put this squarely on the parent, though the employee should have been more discreet.

  5. Not odd. It was on the quarterly earnings call, so they threw out every excuse they could without raising the panic flag. Dick's is trying to reassure investors that despite the firearms issues, the rest of the business is fundamentally sound. That's a challenge any retail outlet chain is having, Dick's just decided being opposed by gun enthusiasts was a better evil than by Moms Demand Action, or the Parkland kids. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4225214-dicks-sporting-goods-inc-dks-ceo-edward-stack-q3-2018-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single Here are a few quotes from the CFO direct to guns... "Specific to hunt, in addition to the strategic decisions we made regarding firearms earlier this year, the broader industry has decelerated and remains weak as evidenced by most recent National Background Check Data. We believe this also contributed to the decline we saw during the quarter." This is him saying the firearms industry in general is slowing down, and even if they didn't do what they did, revenue from guns, wouldn't have mattered. "Some of the equipment businesses, particularly outdoor equipment they – the comp sales were down, some of that driven a little bit by weather and probably some of it driven by some of the firearms customers that we have also involved with the outdoor equipment and camp categories and so on that – so that business down a bit as we started to see during the second and into the third quarter as well." A legit admission that people who used to buy guns at Dick's were taking their business elsewhere for the other things they sell. Side note: whenever most companies are blaming the weather, some fundamental issues are rotten. So, they're admitting it...but not blaming it for their financial woes. Probably true enough, it's just really hard to be a retail store today in general. They seem to have not done themselves any favors, though.

  6. You should find a way to watch the entire episode. Its not just about gun control but also about the interpretation of the second amendment and how attitudes of guns in general have changed through recent history. It's as unbiased a look at firearms as I've ever seen. Adam Winkler's appearance was a nice touch.

  10. That won't matter for most people. You will have a real hard time getting $600. You'd be better off selling the gun for $450 and the mags separately.

  11. Like many of our friends we are going to flee Illinois. Tennessee is high on our list as soon as Tennessee changes its income tax rules on investment and passive income which we understand is suppose to happen. We are seriously looking for land in Eastern Tennessee on which to build a home, but we may temporarily become South Dakota while waiting for the income tax laws to change. My wife and I are lifelong residents of Illinois with her grandfather coming from Sweden as a small boy and my family moving to Illinois in the 1820s in time to fight Indians. We will be leaving with reluctance and sadness, but Illinois has gone bright blue and there is the looming specter of bankruptcy. My wife taught school for 33 years and I have owned my own business since graduating from college and leaving federal law enforcement years ago. My wife and I both shoot trap regularly and she has a Illinois concealed carry permit. I carry under LEOSA. I used to hunt extensively including in Tennessee, but now mostly quail and pheasant and not regularly. I was a law enforcement firearms instructor many years ago, specializing in training deep cover agents which should be very different training than uniformed and plain clothes officers and agents receive. Some of my regularly used guns: Winchester 101 for trap Browning Citori for bird hunting Marlin 39D for small game hunting Ruger MK4 for small game handgun hunting (finally a gun that is easy to put back together) and plinking Ruger .44 magnum carbine for game Ruger .44 magnum Super Blackhawk Hunter cut back to a 5" barrel and other gunsmith work for handgun hunting Remington 1100 for Illinois deer and with quick modification for a house gun Springfield Armory XDs in .45ACP for daily carry there are others, but this gives you an idea of who I am... My wife has two guns of her own and uses some of mine for some things Syren shotgun for trap shooting Boberg 9mm for daily carry Life Member: NRA 2nd Amendment Foundation Illinois State Rife Association Guns Save Lives SASS CMSA (founding member) We are coming here to learn more about the shooting community in Tennessee.

  12. Odd they admitted https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/business/dicks-sporting-goods-admits-suffering-gun-policy-backlash-as-sales-slide Thursday, November 29, 2018 Dick's Sporting Goods admits suffering gun policy backlash as sales slide by Joe Williams | November 28, 2018 10:56 AM Print this article AD Sales at Dick's Sporting Goods dropped in the past three months amid backlash against tighter gun-sale restrictions following a mass killing early this year at a Florida high school. Revenue dipped 4.5 percent to $1.86 billion amid challenges in the company's hunting business during the quarter through Nov. 3. Sales at stores open at least 12 months – a key metric for the retail industry – fell 6.1 percent compared to the prior year. Dick's raised the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21 and stopped selling assault rifles last February after a Valentine's Day shooting in Broward County that left 17 students and staff dead. The decision sparked opposition from conservative activists, some of whom had proposed arming teachers in response and threatened to boycott the brand, and prompted at least one employee to resign. While Chief Executive Officer Edward Stack previously said the firearms policy brought in new customers and sales were reported as flat in August, Dick's has now warned that "negative reaction" could affect future results. Despite lower sales, cost management and a higher margin helped the Pittsburgh-based sporting goods chain boost profit 2.5 percent to $37 million. Stack is investing in new bricks-and-mortar stores, opening six in the quarter, and bolstering the firm's e-commerce business, where sales climbed 16 percent. "Our efforts have been focused on driving profitable sales and managing our business to deliver higher earnings," Stack said in a statement. The company "accelerated freight coming in for January" in response to President Trump's tariffs on $250 billion in products from China and said it would, among other actions, raise prices on customers in 2019 to help mitigate the added costs. Trump has threatened to hike the tariffs from 10 percent to 25 percent and extend the levies to an additional $267 billion in imports.

  17. They made that bed so let them lay in it. Maybe some of these companies that jump on the anti-gun train might want to do some research first to see how many people in this country purchase guns, own guns and hunt with guns. It's not just the right that own gun! People on the left purchase them also and they hunt also.........JMHO

  30. Got one a few weeks ago. About 250 down the tube of various HP and some FMJ as well. Only hiccups were on Speer Gold Dot +p ammo which left the chamber dirty and slide didn’t go back to battery a couple of times. Quick cleaning and no reoccurrence of problem (possibly I didn’t do a good enough initial cleaning). Sig HP and Federal HP just peachy from the get go. 147gr loads feel just fine recoil wise. Don’t like the sights...tritium dots too small and not very bright. Gun also requires that the front dot cover the poi to hit properly. Some other guns I have (Kahr) were done that way and it is not my preference. Gun feels really nice in my hand and trigger is awesome. Will be EDC after changing out sights (others may be happy as is). As an aside it fits my Winthrop OWB leather holster for Kahr just fine, but not a kydex holster I have.

  31. Yeah a quick search as suggested brought this up "Just an update. I emailed pietta and they responded very quickly. A gunsmith from EMF called and explained a short transfer bar from a .22 had been factory installed by mistake. He also stated it had happened to a few. They were happy to take care of it. Thanks to everyone for the replies. " Ha, Ha.... a improper transfer bar will certainly disrupt proper FP protrusion! QC didn't catch that......

  33. Hi Chance, get on down here to Tennessee. We got here a few weeks ago from Streamwood ILLannoy, and absolutely love it. We live about 4 miles outside of Maryville. The TN tax on investment income will be 2% for tax year 2019, 1% for tax year 2020, and then gone. Would expense and hassle of moving to SD and then TN be worth it to avoid those low rates? You'll quickly see that the members on this forum are a MUCH happier group than our poor old buddies on the IC forum. Let us know how your plans progress. Happy to answer any questions you may have about the IL to TN transition. Every single surprise we've had has been a good one. Just sent my IL CCL and FOID card back to the IL State Police today. Sayonara! So glad to be out of the nuthouse they call Illinois (and Chicago.) Q
