  1. So my uncle passed last month. He told my aunt before he died to make sure I get a certain revolver that was my grandfather’s. He already gave me my grandfather’s .SW 38 special which SW dated back to 1964. So I was surprised to hear about this one. I never saw it growing up and had no idea he owned it. My father said he owned this one first but it was just to big to carry everyday. He worked as a constable and at parchman prison in MS. I contacted SW with the serial number and they dated it 1926-27. Very well take care of. Looking forward to taking her out. Going to get the holster repaired as well. proud to have it looks good to be 90years old

  3. Took the family to Ok Carrol yesterday, first time I've been there, handgun range was nice, the rifle range was good but I wished it was much longer, the Pit sucked, wish it was flatter and longer. My daughter came in for Xmas from Colorado and she brought her BF from New York , I wasn't surprised he never held a gun in his life but I fixed that

  4. 0.16” narrower isn’t insignificant. For a skinny guy like me, it could carry lighter and slimmer. I don’t really have a problem with the 19. It’s been my chosen platform for a long time. But... i’m going to reserve judgement. It could feel significantly different in hand. Slimmer might mean a little full better firing grip for some folks. And, that’s a good thing.

  5. As the female owner of AK Virtual Arms Training LLC Sevierville, TN, I get plenty of women coming to my business who are curious about firearms and firearms training. In our first few months, it has become apparent that many newbies are reluctant to go to a live fire range for their first experience. They may not want to admit it to you. At my laser simulator range, we give the reluctant, nervous and timid a place to start that is warm, comfortable and fun to take their first steps toward being in charge of their own safety. Often times, they have so much fun, they will WANT to go to a live-fire range and start shooting their first live-fire pistol! The future of the 2nd Amendment depends on us bringing NEW shooters into shooting. AK Virtual Arms Training LLC does that very well. In addition to our regular training, we have women's only training and host women's shooting groups through events, parties and fund-raisers. Use one of our gift certificates to give that special woman in your life the gift of confidence and self-defense through one of our classes or events. And maybe, you will get a new shooting partner out of it! PM me if you want more information on our "women's only" courses.

  6. I took my first and second uber rides today and thought of this thread. Sadly steelharp didn't pick me up either time. I liked it. It seems like a really sound business model. I had a car in about two minutes both times. The drivers were very courteous.

  9. I know it's all very personally subjective when looking at/buying a new pistol, especially a carry model. But I just can't see the need for this new Glock. At all. So I agree with Steelharp. Just an attempt to appeal to the market of Glock lovers with a somewhat smaller( very little smaller, at that) Glock carry piece. As I said earlier, I don't like the feel of the P365 for me, and I find myself moving farther and farther away from Glocks. lol Never thought I'd say that. The Shield EZ...maybe. I can see a use for it in people with had strength issues. Like my wife. Still considering that idea for her; but she still like the Smith 351 PD I bought her to replace the 416. Heck, I might like the Shield EZ soon.

  10. Been on a 45 kick lately. I had bought a 645 back when they were still in production and after shooting groups, I knew something was wrong with its obsession with flyers. Some how, Smith bored the chamber out of center with the bore. It was pretty drastic. On one side of the chamber throat, the lands had a long taper cut into the bore WITH some of the groove diam. On the opposite side the lands had virtually no tapered throat at all. they just started at full depth just forward the chamber. The woman at S&W CS referred me to the performance center and after I described the issue, he simply sent me a new barrel flat out! He didn't want the gun or the bad barrel back. Now that was in the early 90's so I don't know whats going on over there these days. Any way, the big 45 was a good shooter with the new barrel but still not great because the slide had its share of walk in battery. Enter everygunpart.com and I spot a parts set for a 4516. Hmmmmm, My mind goes full retard thinking "carry....carry....carry" Well, it took some mill work up front on both the slide and frame but that's actually great because I was able to machine and hand fit the front end to a really nice no wobble mate up. THIS puppy should shoot! Just finished it up tonight and I love it. Smith blew the 3rd gen when they deleted the checker aluminum back strap for that crappy plastic wrap around garbage on the 4506. Sooo, I got the best of the old world Smith in this little guy IMO.

  17. I agree with David on the 43, it seems to be successful to me. I love mine and I could carry generally anything I want. Off-duty it is my go to weapon for EDC. I shoot it extremely well compared to others in the field. Capacity is adequate with the TT +2 or +3 basepads. I've tried the Shield, XD-S, and numerous others that I dont quite consider competitors as they are more pocket guns and haven't found one I like better. I am not one of the legit high speed dudes David mentioned but I have done a little bit that I feel I have an ok grasp of weapons and can generate a decent opinion of a firearm. I think the big 3 all put out solid handguns (M&P, XD-S, 43) that just come down to user preference. I have never told someone that bought one of these that they should have bought a 43 because realistically if they carry it, it shoots reliability, and they like it then that is what matters. I am sure the 48 will sell for numerous reasons. Fanboys will buy them because they are Glocks, some legit dudes will buy them for the incremental benefits over another gun they have, noobs will buy them because they will fill several roles with one gun. Like I said in an earlier post I could probably find a day or two that this size would be convenient. Currently funds go to optics and other builds but who knows I may pick one up and it just speaks to me to buy it.

  18. You and I are watching some totally different traffic on the Internet if you think the G43 hasn't been successful. This isn't me being a fan-girl, either. I own a Shield 9mm only because it came out first. The G43 has acquired a very substantial following, even as an EDC among legit high-speed dudes who could and used-to- carry whatever the heck they wanted to carry. I think this one is going to knock the ball out of the park for a lot of people who want the longer sight radius of a G19 without the width of one.

  19. There was a woman killed by her ex boyfriend just last week that had an order of protection against him. I have thought for a long time that women need to get more involved in firearms and self defense. An order of protection is a piece of paper and will not stop a bullet so next best thing as far as I'm concerned is a trained armed woman defending herself and her children...........JMHO

  20. This was an excellent suggestion. I had never even heard of this case prior to you mentioning it. I must have changed my mind on his guilt vs innocence at least 10 times throughout the series. It really does leave you with more questions than answers as you said. I'd be curious to get your thoughts on whether or not he murdered anyone.

  21. I've carried a Glock 19 for nearly a decade and I still think they make one of the most reliable guns on the market. The Gen4 17 is one of my favorite guns I own. I'm obviously a fan. That being said, Glock stopped being innovative in the 90's. They are always trying to respond to a consumer request from 5 or 10 years ago. The request for a single stack 9mm became an internet meme before it became reality. I'm not convinced the G43 has been as successful as they hoped. It seems even some of the die hard Glock guys prefer the Shield.

  23. They will lose this one in court IF the court follows the law. They're trying to say it fires more than one bullet per pull of the trigger in their new ruling. We all know that is not true. Even the former BATFE Analyst who made the ruling on them making them legal to begin with says the one way to ban them is congress to make a new specific law banning them. Meet One Of The Analysts Who Determined That Bump Stocks Were Legal (HBO) And even if they ban them they still can't stop bumpfiring... Bumpfire without bump/slide fire stock...

  34. Settle down folks. I'm against this as much as you are. However, the lawsuits will get an injunction to prevent enactment of this ruling and I believe it will eventually be declared illegal/unconstitutional by the courts. So everybody looks like they tried to do something. But in the end, nothing changes. A typical Washington dog and pony show. I suspect it may have been planned that way on purpose.

  37. I'm a lifetime NRA member but haven't donated in awhile. I reply to their solicitations with letters asking for their reasoning on some of their decisions. I have also sent letters direct. Have yet to get a reply. There is no room to negotiate on the 2nd amendment. I get tired of people saying well we had to give up something. For something like this to pass is the slippery slope so many people fear and is the very reason the 2nd amendment was put in place.

  39. We had out company Xmas party last night. I got talked into buying 5 shots of 15yo Pappy Van Winkle. Not worth the $110 per shot but it was really good. 44. That is what worries me. I am probably just keeping mine as is. I don't have a lot in it to begin with. Plus, I don't plan to point it at any one and slam the mag in unless I already plan to shoot them. And I dont have a habit of dropping loaded guns. I saw the price of auction ones go up as people bought cheap ones hoping to swap them for a new G2.

  45. Well, it was not my idea to go to Dollywood but my wife wanted to go and I had a surprise planned for her and I was kind of making it her weekend to pick the places we went and I just agreed so we went. The plan I had was a dream come true for her and after doing Dollywood on Friday we just walked through Gatlinburg looking at the stores and shops. A buddy of mine that owned Charlet in Gatlinburg had given me the keys to it for the entire weekend. On Satuday morning she woke up to breakfast in bed and under her napkin was two tickets to the opening game of Tennessee season that year. I was standing just out side the bedroom door when she found them and I would guess about everyone on that mountain top heard her screams when she found the tickets. She was a rabid Tennesse fan and our house looked like a concession stand at a Tennessee game. At Dollywood she was decked out in orange and white tennessee clothes. The guy that owned the Charlet had season tickets every year in box seating as he is an alumni of Tennessee University and he let me use his tickets. I'm sure glad I took her cause it was probably the best thing I could have done to fill her dreams cause I lost her in October 97.

  46. I edited this to say use Laquer thinner. It makes the process fool proof. It is amazing and the only variable is the amount of powder. I was able to use a lot less than when using acetone and with laquer thinner the coat was much nicer. I decided to try the laquer thinner an it is fool proof. Add a little powder then swirl around to see if you have enough to coat the bullets. Then pour off the excess laquer thinner and pour the bullets out. Wait for them to dry then bake. The powder coat powder does not stick to the plastic bucket and for some reason ONLY sticks to the bullets. I am absolutely amazed at the results. So I have been promising a write up with a few pictures. Here are the items you will need Powder coating powder For the powder I have tried expensive powders and cheap powder. They all seem to work equally well. I initially used Harbor Freight red and it worked well so I order a few other colors from Powder by the Pound. They arrived quickly and they were cheap in 2oz sizes and it is a Tennessee company. I made sure to order the 400 degree powder from PBTP. Acetone Laquer Thinner The acetone laquer thinner is just like you find at any hardware store. Nothing special but I would caution against using nail polish removed that is acetone as they tend to have other ingredients that might affect adhesion. Container For the container I found some small buckets at Walmart for $2 each. They seem to work well with the size batches I am doing. I think any container will work providing the acetone doesn't eat it. Screen I used 1/4" hardware clothe that is available at most home improvement stores. I cut a piece just big enough to fit in the oven then I rolled the edges up to keep the bullets from rolling off. A word of caution. These are generally zinc plated and zinc is bad for you if it gets too hot. At 400 degrees there isn't any fumes but at 425 it was smoking. Toaster oven I bought one at Big Lot for $30 which is about the price for anywhere else. It needs to go to at least 400 degrees to work. Be careful as I have seen some that only went to 300 degrees. I will also caution against buying them used as the thermostat is what generally goes and you end up with a stove you cannot control the temperature on. Mask You need to have a filtered mask. Not a dusk mask but a mask that is designed to filter out fumes. I picked mine up a Harbor Freight for less than $20 and it works great. Eye protection I wear glasses so this is not an issue but I will say after every time I have done this I have spots on my glasses. So without eye protection you will likely get something in your eye. ******************************************************************************************* Now onto the instructions First I start by preheating the oven. I will put it on 400 degrees and set the timer for 15 minutes. It doesn't take 15 minutes to heat up that small oven. I put on my mask and eyeprotection before opening either the acetone or the powder. The powder can be as harmful as the acetone until the powder is baked on so ALWAYS wear your mask. Now I choose the color I want to use and add it to the bucket first. Here is how much powder I put in the bucket for ~100-150 bullets. You definitely want to add enough to coat the bullets. I normally add 2-3 scoops of powder using a 1.9 Lee dipper to measure. This is generally enough to do a batch of 100-150 bullets, depending on the size of the bullets. Next I add the acetone to the powder. This is generally how much acetone I use. There is no scientific measuring method for this but I will say you want too much rather than too little. If you have too much it adds a few minutes to the tumbling and evaporating time but if you add too little the bullets will come out blotchy and dull. At this point I begin to swirl the mixture around. If you have some clumps you can add 5-10 bullets to help break them up before adding the rest of the bullets. After the mixture is nice and uniform I now I add the bullets and begin tumbling by hand. At this point I begin to lightly shake the mixture up. I generally do a back and forth motion with a swirl every 2-3 times around. I will also kind of flip the bullets end over end like you do when flipping a pancake. You want to tumble them just vigorously enough to coat the bullets with the mixture. And you continue to shake, and shake and the bullets will not looked coated at all. They will have a light tinge of color but the silver is definitely shining through. Then finally the acetone begins evaporating and the amount of time is dependent on how much there is as well as the temperature. And it will not evaporate very quickly if you do not tumble. You can actually set the bucket down for 30-45 minutes and they will still need to be tumbled. But tumbling will evaporate the acetone enough within 5 minutes of constant tumbling. And as the acetone evaporates the bullets get more and more color. And when the bullets seem to be holding on to the color this is a critical time. You want to dump the bullets while they are still wet, but not too wet, but definitely do it before they get too dry. If the acetone evaporates too much the bullets will not have a wet look and will actually have a dull, rough finish. It doesn't affect performance from testing but it does look like crap. At this point the bullets should be uniformly covered with color AND still wet to the touch. There should be some of the mixture in the bottom of the bucket and on the bullets that is about the consistency of Testor's paint. It should still run from gravity and if the bulelts have color but the coating is still running in the bottom of the bucket then it is time to dump the bullets. Another big indicator for me is the sound of the tumbling bullets. The sound changes slightly as the bullets are trying to move agains the resistance of the thicker coating. This is how they should look right before dumping them out onto the screen. Uniform in color, still wet to the touch and still shiny. (Sorry for the crappy picture). I do not have a picture but you dump them out onto the screen. Then I give them a quick shake to try to keep some from sitting on top of others. At this point the bullets will dry very quickly and I give them a quick shake every 30 seconds or so until dry. After about 2-3 minutes they will be dry to the touch and not be tacky. When they are I seperate the bullets as best as I can on the screen so none of them are touching while they bake. Then I stick the bullets and screen into the toaster oven which is set to 400 degrees. I set the timer and let the bullets bake for 10-15 minutes depending on the size of the bullets and how they are looking. As they bake they will become a little more shiny than when they were dry. Once they are uniform in how shiny they all look I carefully remove them from the oven. And this is how they will look coming straight out of the oven, shiny. I set them out to cool for 10 minutes or so. The powder coat will be tacky when they first come out and will remain tacky for 3-5 minutes until they have cooled enough to allow the powder coat to harden. After that you can touch the bullets but be careful because they will still be extremely hot. And if you touch them while they are still tacky they can stick to your finger, ask me how I figured that one out. After that you can either shoot them as they are or size them down dependong on your application. Sizing them does not remove the finish at all. The coating seems to add about .002" to the size of the bullets. So if you have bullets that are the same size or .001" over the bore size as cast then they will not need to be sized after they are coated. If the bullets are any larger as cast then you might try sizing them down to .002" over the bore size. I have personally pushed these to over 2,000 fps without any issues. As a matter of fact the bore seems a lot cleaner than with jacketed or cast and lubed. I have read of people pushing them to 2,800 fps without issue. The advantages are that the bore never leads. It is also cleaner. And the biggest advantage is it encapsulates the lead to prevent exposure. This si something I will be doing with all my cast bullets. And I am not 100% positive they need to be baked. Here is a bag on its way back to Caster: And finally, if you have ANY questions feel free to ask.

  47. I had a bad experience today at Toddy’s on Kingston Pike, Knoxville. Stopped in for the first time and found some Weller Special Reserve (green label) for $29. I took it to the cashier (young guy) who was checking us out and I mentioned what a good price it was. Another older employee started going off about the Knoxville Bourbon Club or some such...making his phone ring off the hook and coming in to buy these types of bourbons and selling them at a profit...he would rather sell them to his regular customers. He claimed they forced him to continually lie and tell people he didn’t have the bourbon they wanted. At first I thought he was joking but he got louder and louder. I advised that perhaps he should find something else to do if selling bourbon caused him so much stress. He then yelled “YOU THINK I’M STRESSED”? I had pushed some unseen button. From the looks on the younger employees faces they had seen this behavior before. I won’t go back to Toddy’s. May not even drink that bourbon...ok, yeah I’m going to drink the bourbon, lol. Happy Holidays, go to Bob’s Package Store!
