  1. Back in the early summer of 2018, I purchased a No4 Mk1 T off gunbroker that had no scope or mount, only had the mounting pads screwed into the receiver. I got a repro No32 scope and mount and still have yet to sight this thing in, but thought I would share. Rifle has the Holland and Holland stamps on the stock as it should, but neither the receiver nor the stock just behind the safety contain a serial number for a scope. Perhaps it just never had one issued?

  2. Initial thoughts: Grip texturing is great! I like how they used different textures for different parts of the grip. It's as if they spent some time thinking about it rather than just smearing the same texture all over. It really is the same size as Glock 19 or an M&P M2.0 9mm Compact and, for me, that is a good thing. With the larger of the two backstraps installed, as it came from the factory, the grip profile has a soft curve that a cover garment should drape across more gracefully and not be as "identifiable" as is with a Glock 19. The mag release on the 509M is easy to manipulate but not so easy that it could happen accidentally. Deep undercut on the trigger guard allows you to get a good, high grip on it. The polymer there has a super-fine texture that shouldn't agitate anyone but I may polish it to a mirror at some point. I prefer an undercut that is as smooth as glass. The stock sights are steel, which is good, but I prefer a very prominent front dot and no, or subdued, rear dots with a U-notch. I have a set of Trijicon HD sights on the way. The barrel is crowned, which is nice to see. I also noticed that the final half-inch (approximate) of the barrel right before the muzzle is a thousandth of an inch or so larger in circumference than the rest of the barrel's length. I assume this aids in accuracy much the way a bull-barrel in a 1911 does by providing a snug fit between the barrel's terminus and the portal that it passes through in the end of the slide. The slide release lever is a piece of cake to manipulate with either hand, unlike the M&P M2.0. The extractor is a monster and looks hella stout. The slide serrations, fore and aft, are perfect and exactly what I prefer on a fighting gun. The trigger is NOT BAD AT ALL! It's a bit heavy but seems to be lightening up and smoothing out a little as I dry fire it. I'll put a trigger gauge on it tomorrow. Wish I'd done that before dry firing it a hundred or so times, for comparison. Whoopsie. I doubt seriously that I will swap the trigger out for an Apex part. The OEM trigger seems just fine for me.

  3. Here is a very fascinating read about repurposing calvary blades into fighting knives for WWII. Also the campaign to gather knives and send to troops. https://blog.knife-depot.com/wwii-demand-for-blades-led-to-knife-crowdsourcing/?fbclid=IwAR0F9-vVRPWBnGI7tbxEaAB1vVT1wYZu8RwGgGfUXaqu8i9E5JO7oM2OYDo

  5. Take the uniform off of the guy. Now how do you feel about it? Just an average Joe walking through his house with his gun in his hand and he shoots his wife or kid in the back. Do your feelings change? Cause mine don't. The only standard I'm holding him to are the four rules of gun safety.

  6. First of all prayers to the Longworth family. I wonder if he had used a gun would the sentence be the same. He used a 5,000 pound bullet going 105.6FPS. Not real fast but 5,000 pound bullet. You see whether the weapon is a pistol, shotgun, AR-15, hammer, knife, GMC Sierra, if the person dies and it was your fault, well sorry you're going to have to do the time. Plus I think they need to pass laws against GMC Sierra's. Seems as though they are very deadly. As for a kid, sorry if you are 18 in my mind you are an adult and should be treated as one. IMHO, your mileage may vary

  8. I am no expert and its more a question of your VOIP providers tech, however it still sounds like a VOIP provider so likely could / should work with a converter provided your phone lines still have power to run the ringers. I dont follow your desire to run two phones together off the system, but if you do want to use them in general, I would suggest looking it up as you are not alone. Out of curiosity I did a quick search in Google and it returned a number of hits on the Ooma Forum from folks accomplishing this...with ringing. Throw this at Google and see if you find a match for your situation: ooma and rotary phone

  10. That’s pretty neat. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these. It would be a cool piece in a collection.

  11. What really aggravates me about this is that they called it an accident and the guy is back at work. First off, its negligence. Not an accident, its negligence. And secondly, he should be required to take a ton of firearms classes before being put back on the street. Also, its interesting that he starts screaming what happened, what happened after it happened. I don't think he even realized that his gun had fired.

  15. I picked up a used Bersa Thunder about 3 years ago. Got the gun and 3 boxes of FMJ for $225. The previous owner only shot 1 50 round box before I got it. I must say it's been flawless so far.

  16. Tactical Tailor committed to send $500 worth of gear to be an obstacle sponsor - but then actually sent me almost $1,300 worth of gear. So I'm bumping them up to a full Stage Sponsor, of course! They sent 3 each of their covert rifle cases, shooters mats, and gym bags - and they look to be super high quality! Be sure to thank them and don't forget to look to them if you need any great RNG gear. https://www.tacticaltailor.com/

  17. I have HP pistols and carbines in both 9mm and .45ACP. Pistols are ugly but work fine, and I don't especially care if they get beat up. Good for tackle box, etc. Carbines are very fun to shoot. My family and friends seem to like shooting them way more than ARs. Just got a Ruger PC Carbine 9mm. Takes Glock mags. That's gonna be my carbine of choice. Can't wait to shoot it. I'm heading over to the Oak Ridge Sportsmen's Club this evening for new member orientation. If Ruger brings out the PC Carbine in 45ACP I'll probably get that too, and lose the HP carbines. If anyone would be interested in buying, please let me know.

  18. Sounds like a "he's just a kid" sentence. 10 years of probation will make life plenty difficult. If the deceased's family is ok with that, I have no opinion.

  19. I own an FNP45, FNX9 and an FNS9c. All are more accurate than I am. I was surprised how well I shot the compact. It goes with me everywhere in an IWB holster. I did however just get a Sig p365 for pocket carry for times that I don't carry IWB for some reason. Haven't shot it yet but like the size. Love my FN pistols. Coveting the FNS 509 tactical at the moment.

  22. I’ve watched the bodycam video of this incident several times and I can only come to the conclusion of negligence. If you watch the footage closely you can see that every time the female officer is in view, she is safely indexing her trigger finger and exercising good muzzle discipline. Her training stuck and it is a shame that she ended up paying the price for her partner’s negligence. There is no other way to legitimately describe his weapons handling other than negligent and its synonyms. The whole time he was rolling around the house with his weapon in his hand, his finger was on the trigger and he flagged her more than once. The end result was sadly predictable. I pray she is able to fully recover from this incident. I also hope that her partner receives the remedial training he so obviously needs. ***A warning to all parties involved in this discussion.*** Ensure that your posts are limited to the topic at hand. The policy on TGO is and remains that generalized cop bashing is not allowed. Normally threads critical of LE must be related to TN, but I’m allowing this thread to go forward because I believe that we can all learn lessons from this incident. The reminder of what happens when folks get complacent is never a bad thing. Still, be careful with what you say and how you say it. Keep it topical and keep it respectful. You can be critical of LE (obviously I am) but ensure that your posts provide value and intelligent discourse beyond “cops are bad, mmmkay?”

  24. He had already cleared the house. Whoever they were looking for wasn't there and he knew that. When he went back into the living room there was no need for his gun to be drawn. But I'm not going to second guess all of that crap. The bottom line is that regardless of your job title, there are four rules of gun safety. If you don't follow them, NEGLIGENCE happens. Not accidents. There is no such thing as an accidental discharge, only negligent discharges. This can't even be chalked up to mechanical failure. Its negligence. Plain and simple.

  25. Do you work in the unique realm of law enforcement? Take "shot" out of the equation. If you had an accident caused in part by work circumstances would you be fired? Not necessarily.

  31. That is kinda what I was thinking. It is obsolete tech. Like a party line, or calling an operator to connect you. How many of you here know how to set points or adjust your timing? Do you know how to operate the pedals on a Model T? Most likely not. It is obsolete tech. Do you know how to chop down a tree cut it to lumber and build your own home? Of course not, time has moved on from that point and life has become much easier. It is not the foretelling of doom that many of you think it is.

  32. I'm not sure why this should be a sign of the imminent demise of western civilization. There's absolutely no need for teens or anyone else to know how to use a rotary phone, these were analog devices which are no longer functional, as the phone companies moved to digital transmissions years ago. Rotary phones are a technology that has no discernible use in the modern world, it's akin to expecting somebody to know how to make a mud and wattle hut ...

  33. Its mostly correct. Shouldering a brace does not change the classification of the firearm. However, installing a brace with the intent to shoulder it, is still illegal. Its difficult to charge someone with it since intent is difficult to prove, but much easier when people post about it on the internet.

  34. As we, my wife and I, were leaving church last night, a lady friend of ours said she had something to show me. She had one of those cell phones that makes pictures, and she showed me a photo of her son (from a previous marriage) holding a flintlock rifle. The man in the picture was wearing the uniform of a Tennessee State Parks employee, and was holding the rifle while he wore those white cotton gloves. The rifle, she told me, was Davy Crockett's "Old Betsy." Her son is curator/coordinator for East Tennessee State Museums. Apparently the rifle was scheduled for some special event display and he got to handle it long enough to have his photo made with the rifle. Apparently at my church I'm known as a gun buff. 37. I have three 1912 Swedish Mausers, an m/96 an FSR m/96 and an m/41 and a total of 13 Swedes. Your stock is french walnut, chances are if the butt plate matches it is the original stock, the one crown stamp is indeed the first inspection before the rifle left Carl Gustafs. Your barrel is rated as a 2 which means some corrosion present in the lands but the Swedes were picky so it is still a fine bore. It was also measured at 6.51mm. which is pretty good. Should prove to be a fine shooter. PPU is decent but handloading with a fairly slow powder makes the Swedes shine.
