  1. All you folks that refuse to do business with anyone who's money goes to support Democrats: Where the hell do you buy anything?

  2. Never really got the point of carrying a handgun, while you're also carrying a much more powerful weapon in your hands. A load of birdshot at 8' is going to do a whole lot more to dissuade an angry porker than a single bullet of any caliber from a handgun. Also, stop watching YouTube videos on 'Wild Hogs Attack!!!!!!' I regularly & purposely put myself in harm's way, pig wise, and I've yet to be 'attacked' If you're in a dove field, surrounded by other dudes; A.) Ain't a pig coming near you & B.) You're more likely to shoot some other poor bastard because you're panicking about pigs. They're not all 300lb, tusk bristling, angry psychopaths. They're mostly 40-90lb terrified speed balls who just wanna get out of the way.

  3. Most of my time on hogs is in the swamps and bottomlands of South Georgia. I’ve got family down there, so it’s convenient. I’ve been treed by one down there. But, I wasn’t hunting at the time. Me and a friend just happened to be pumping water at a spring when some piglets came out of the underbrush. Mama was not pleased. These days I enjoy chasing them around Black Warrior and a couple other spots in northern Alabama. It’s just closer than Valdosta. I usually run a 45-70 - because that’s what I pretty much shoot everything in the South with these days. But, there’s no telling how many I’ve taken with an old model 94 in 30-30. I’ve taken some with 5.56. I’ve taken one with a 500gr .458 SOCOM round just to see - and it made a real mess. It’s an unpopular opinion these days - but I’ve shot a bunch of pigs that I knew were headed for the freezer in the neck with a .22 WMR. They’re not particularly hard to kill. But, like you I’d hunt hogs 100% of the time over deer or pretty much anything else here in the South.

  4. Miller Man hit the nail on the head. Great class, a "MUST" for anyone with a permit. I would break it down like this: Lee: The law and Criminal Justice system in the context of self-defense. Being retired LE, I was familiar with most of this information and it is something a "layman" should really know, particularly in the context of self-defense. Lee broke it down for us (non-lawyers) and gave his insights based on years of experience. Randy: How to see and avoid most of the "ugliness" that may come your way....... and how to prevail if you can't avoid it. This was not my first class with Randy. Pests eat fast. The shooting instruction is top notch. I like the approach: This is why we do it and how it works. This is how we do it. Now, let's do it, it might save your life. Randy is always top notch. Overall a great day (in spite of the weather) of learning... at a price that can't be beat!

  5. I'm asking, because everyone seems to have a lot of misconceptions regarding how big or how vicious every wild hog in the world really is. That idea keeps being reinforced over & over in every new thread inquiring about pigs. Not just here, but on every single hunting forum where the subject is raised. I hog hunt HARD. I'd miss the whole of deer season for 3 good long weeks chasing pork. 99% of my friends are hardcore pig hunters. Most of them traditional archery dudes too! In 15 years of chasing actual wild pigs on 3 continents I've never seen, experienced or heard first hand any of the usual opinions regarding their savagery! I know of one dude in Texas that got chewed on by an angry Javelina, but I've yet to meet a single person with a pig scar.....

  6. A few weeks after getting a Henry .44 mag, I realized that I needed a .44 mag revolver. Now I feel better about the boxes of ammo stacked on the shelf.

  9. Way too much like work. Hornady works for me year round. I stuffed them in my little Ruger and that in my pocket. The little thingees in the front of the hollow point will work whatever the perp is wearing. That's what they are made for.

  10. I was hunting hogs just last night. Texas has very sensible rules so it’s night hunting with thermal scopes. Huge fun! Very windy so we didn’t see anything but maybe next time. As to them being dangerous, I rarely have problems with them but I did get charged on my very first pig hunt. Dropped him at five feet w a 45-70 (hat tip to kahrman). They can be cantankerous when they get irritated. These days I’m running a suppressed ar-10 w pulsar thermal scope. .308 lays them down nicely.

  11. I like shooting 300BLK suppressed - but when hunting I still run 110gr TTSX supers most of the time. The suppressor quiets them down some. Its just a good performer in the field.

  12. Talladega National Forest next weekend! I just found out from a friend, we'll be doing a quick backcountry camping/hog trip. I was hoping to have my .300blk upper by then, but I guess I'll be taking my .223 this time around.

  13. I've hunted hog on a few occasions, always in the wild, no enclosure per se, but once I got one on a military base with a fence around it. Never had issues, even when I'd run into them in the open in GA. I'd like to hunt them locally, but I can wait until they come into my area if need be.

  15. I answered No. I did actually go to SW Wisconsin for a long weekend with a good friend of mine. We did load guns and get into the brush for about two days, saw some sign but no pigs. So, I'll say no, I haven't ever really hunted hogs. Not like I've hunted deer or waterfowl or grouse or pheasants or morels.

  16. I more than agree with this for sure. If the hog gets close enough to do you harm a round of number 8 birdshot directly into the face will take out both eyes disbaling hogs sight giving you plenty of time to get away plus discourage the hog from wanting to get to you plus you will have time to shoot it a couple more times if you would choose to. Bird shot at close range can really do some serious damage..................JMHO

  17. If the enhanced permit in TN is not treated like the enhanced permit in Mississippi with legal K-12 school/college carry and decriminalizing the no gun signs, then there is not any benefit in this legislation for people with enhanced permits. I am hoping this bill is amended further change that.

  18. This was a really great class put on by two highly qualified individuals. I think this would be the perfect next step following getting a carry permit for everyone who looks to carry a gun for self defense or even just possibly ever having to use a gun for defense. Hope they can continue to put this class together for lots of people to get a day of very useful info and training. I learned something within the first 2 minutes of Lee starting and picked up tons of useful information to retain throughout his whole class. He does a great job of going over his material - even though sometimes it is lots of legal-ese talk that he is breaking down to lay mans terms (thank goodness for me). I even learned the importance and difference between "can I" and "may I", and more importantly for this class, "must I" . I've been through Randy's flagship class years ago but this was a great compacted refresher for lots that I've forgotten. His - pests eat fast - is very good info and mindset to have ( + KEEP) in your toolbox. Don't know what that is? Get to class and find out. We even had the great fortune of having the monsoon finally break and got to enjoy the range without getting soaked to the bone. Also got to experience shooting drills in quicksand - which is sure to be useful someday. Had a great time and enjoyed spending the day with some great folks.

  19. For anyone on here that either owns or is even remotely interested in the development, use and improvements of the No 4 Mk1 T rifles, check out this book by Steve Houghton. There is a limited number of these being printed and I have found it to be a very useful wealth of information on my rifle. It includes rifles from WW1 all the way through to the most modern in British service. Here is Ian McCollum’s book review and a link to purchase the book can be found in the description text.

  20. I received a larger refund this year, which was a nice surprise because I had adjusted my withholding and was expecting less of a refund. But we received the child credit on both kids this year which resulted in the large refund and a net tax payment 50% less than the prior year. My effective tax rate went dropped from 13.x% to 11.x% before the child credit, which then dropped us down to 6.x%. I paid 50% less tax this year than last year, and my taxable income went up by 15k so we are happy.

  21. As mentioned above, if Mike @LawEnforcementSalesTN can't handle it (I couldn't envision anything he couldn't handle). he'll point you in the right direction. Mike is a great guy and a very talented Gunsmith... a true Gunsmith, not a "parts changer". If it goes bang, he can fix it or build one for you, as long as you're legal to own it. Don't let the business name fool you. Mike's business services us earth walkers too. He stays busy, but either call or email and he will get back to you, it may take a short while, but he'll get caught up with you. Here's a link: http://www.lawenforcementsalestn.com/home.html Jamie

  24. I am not the smartest boy in class, just smarter than the average bear. Never did under stand "wanting a refund". Even as a young adult I tried to keep the amount as close to 0 as possible, as an older butt head I find myself taking advantage of .gov when I can.

  25. I would feel comfortable with any of my .357's with a 4 inch barrel or longer but a .44 would give some extra thump if you can do follow up shots accurately after the added recoil. You could even find some less than full power loads with a little research to tame the recoil. If you decide to purchase a .44 though just go ahead and get a magnum rated gun, you can still shoot .44 special in it.

  27. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2019/02/21/benchmade-helps-destroy-guns/ I don't see what they did as wrong at all...now I don't know about their actual politics but I understand why they helped the local sheriff as they probably had torches and cutters available that most shops do not. I don't own any benchmade knives but if any of you are outraged that do i'll be happy to take those anti-2a pieces of junk off your hands.

  28. Except it’s more than a few dollars. Minimum difference is about $150, but mostly between $200 or $300. Rugers are closer in price. When I was looking for 4” .357 last year, for general plinking, I was thinking S&W but the difference between a Taurus 627 Tracker and a S&W 686 was $300. I bought the Taurus. Now that being said, I picked a new S&W 442 at a Harvey’s FB Auction for $295, just recently! So you might very well find one for “a few dollars more”.

  29. The cutting up guns thing bewilders me. Doesn't that city have a shop and their own people who could do that for them? Why was Benchmade even involved? As for the political contributions, buying a politician is always a good investment. Especially when you're certain they will be the one in office. Oh well, Benchmade has shot themselves in the foot. Time will tell if they bleed out or not.

  31. I have attended several classes with CHL. Quality instruction by someone that has a proven performance track record. Both Randy and Lee are nationally sought after instructors. The only reason I am posting is that this is a bargain for a local, quality program that addresses topics directly related to the armed citizen. As Randy said, if you are wondering whether to attend I can definitely recommend signing up.

  33. TriCities are nice, Johnson City is 66k, Kingsport is 53k, Bristol Tn/Va is 42k. All are within about a 40 minute radius. Plus Asheville, NC is not far. Less than an hour from Johnson City. We are about 2 hours NE from Knoxville. Give you lots of options to live and work within a decent commute. Only realky gets crazy 2 weekend a year for NASCAR. Better than Pigeon Forge close to where I grew up Which is crazy 365 now.

  34. If you didn't have any changes in dependent status? That seems way too high for a refund. Makes me wonder if your employer adjusted how much was withheld after tax reform was passed. I remember my first paycheck was a copy of 2017 from income tax withholding, but once the systems were updated with the new tax changes, I saw the surplus hitting my paychecks. My *all things money* spreadsheet shows I'll get refund of less than $100. After I tally up investment dividends and capital gains, I'll end up owing. That's the way I like it, not giving the government an interest free loan.
