  1. I honestly enjoy the building part almost as much as the shooting lol.

  2. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I bought a Browning HiPower that I was planning on fancying up. As a reminder, this is where she started out. Just a standard, MkIII produced in 1990 for commercial sale. Heres what she looks like today now that she’s back from my gunsmith. She’s had new sights (tritium front, blacked out rear), new hammer, sear, sear lever, trigger job, new grips, all new springs and various internal parts replaced. Original painted finish stripped off, polished and rust blued. She’s soooo much prettier in person than these pics show.

  3. I’m not TGODavid, that’s for sure. The entire gun was rust blued. It’s got a gorgeous satin shine to it. It’s a different look from a standard hot blue process Here’s a couple more pics, maybe they’ll show the finish off a bit better.

  4. Great choice! That finish against those grips is awesome...me and my friends have hipowers we had lightning cuts and gold bead front sights installed on...we still haven't settled on the refinish though....been guarding his closet for the better part of 5 years lol.

  5. I have a left hand paddle holster that I wear when seated in my car so I can get to my gun easier. It would be much harder to access it on my right hip seated.

  7. I just bought one of these. Will probably stick it on one of my rifles this week... https://ballisticadvantage.com/16-inch-223-hanson-mid-ss-premium-barrel.html

  8. I found the problem. We had a bad banner ad file get uploaded at about the same time the forum software version was incremented. The fact that you guys said it started at a very specific time today helped me narrow it down. Thank you!

  9. Very good! Thinking of upgrading/refinishing my late 70s HP. She's a bit dull and lackluster with that old finish. Can't show her this post...becoming very jealous.

  11. 10Ring and Dave TN have it right. TN has 'Permitless Carry" which addresses this. 18 and older can possess a firearm in the automobile. This includes a handgun. It is not a matter of LEO discretion, it is a matter of TN law. If my adult daughter is driving a car, she will in all likely hood have a firearm in her car. Folks it has been this way for several years and is taught in the permit class. Additionally, your passenger compartment is analogous to your home. If it is breached, Castle Doctrine in applied. Note this does not mean if someone is beating on your car. Opening the door, breaking the window and then grabbing for you would be the threshold.

  14. The new owners can not change his current lease. The range has 16+ years left on their lease. Rent can only increase 5% every 5 years.

  15. QuackerSmacker That is exactly how I viewed the situation. The distention gets down to caring vs in the car. After a call to the Knox county sheriff, we were told no absolutely not. They said an 18 -21 year old may not have a handgun in the car.

  16. I wonder if the prices might come down even more now that the Tactical Timmy version is out. I laid hands on one the other day with the rail and it looked pretty good, but I remain unconvinced at this time.

  17. This is not at the discretion of the LEO. Without getting into the the 18-21 thing, it's been legal in TN since July 2014 for all lawful gun owners to have loaded handguns, rifles, or shotguns in their vehicles (but not on their person, unless they have an HCP, obviously for handguns only.)

  18. Me too. Each one is just a little different and I learn something every time. Best lesson I’ve learned is that cheap sometimes cost more in the long run lol. That being said, I’ve had some good budget items that surprised me. Also learned that I have Lamborghini tastes with Mustang income and sometimes I have to save a long time to get what I want

  19. I get where your coming from....a bit of advice...if you don't have an HCP...don't carry a gun in the car...explaining to the cop that pulls you over for whatever (I remember being in my early 20's) that you have a gun due to castle law...well that wont end well for you ...maybe you'll win in court but do you really want that hassle. I too prefer a handgun over not having one but until you have an HCP I would strongly strongly recommend you just carry bear mace or something similar in your car...that Kimber pepper ball gun is a good choice...gives you a little distance and less likely to rupture from heat in the glovebox....just my $.02

  20. Since this is already a little off topic, I use a Gum Creek mount to solve the problem you referenced. Explanation in the video link if you're not familiar. If you're interested they have 10% sale and free shipping, but it ends today. https://youtu.be/xpTpcFGWBJc

  22. We All think owning a gun shop or a range would be cool; and it probably would be. But there is a lot to think about. Your target market and where you are would be critical. Over the last few years we have seen it go from $15~20 a day to $20 or more an hour to shoot. It would be great if you could get enough of that business to stay open. But as more ranges open; can you do that? The outdoor range I go to went from $5 to $10 a day. I think that’s pretty reasonable for a range with a pistol range and a 300 meter rifle range. You might have to wait on the weekends for the rifle side. I mostly just shoot on private property anymore. Online sales have got to be hurting them. If you want a M&P or Glock, most shops have you covered. But many of us are buying guns after our basic needs are met that the stores don’t stock. You can’t blame them for that; they can’t all stock what the big box houses stock. Some are happy to get the transfer fee; some are not. My dream would be a monster range. Indoor range, outdoor range, pistol rifle, archery, with range fees low enough to keep people shooting and a gun shop that could match the online prices. I can’t afford the start-up, but I bet someone does it; we have two major players in the MidState that could pull it off.

  26. Having a handgun for self defense is a great idea, however a house is not a car. Accessing a handgun from a center console, under the seat, or from the glove box is very different from a traditional nightstand set up. Caught at the range without ears? How loud will it be in a car? If you have an HCP, how will you access your holster or pocket while belted in? If you're a lefty like me, you have even more challenges. A little off topic, but stuff to think about.

  27. An 18 year old can legally purchase (private sale) and possess a handgun in this state. They can’t purchase one from an FFL, but that’s federal law. That could change if private sales are banned. I can’t sell a handgun to an 18 year old because I have an C&R. 18 U.S.C. 922(g) (quoted in the Tennessee statute) does not address age, and deals with interstate commerce. But check with your local LE and see what they tell you. You are far more likely to get caught with a gun in your car than you are to have to use it.

  30. Sure, but he’s about to become the poster child for inaction in Tennessee. Judging from the number of arrests I would guess first responders did their job. I would also make the guess that based on his previous record he was barred from firearm possession and could not pass a background check. So no red flag laws or laws other than those already in place would have been required to stop him. Apparently people were calling for help, but the system did not work for them. Some folks paid for that with their life. I would not be surprised if it was the same family members that asked for help before.

  32. I have used some for several months. I've used it with a couple different style 9mm bolts. I was skeptical in the plastic ejector and even spoke with the manufacturer about it. They explored the possibility of pinning a metal ejector but the plastic was already so thin that creating a spot to pin a metal ejector made the area that held the pin even weaker. They claim you can get 10,000 or so rounds before the ejector fails, which spread amongst say 5 mags is alot of rounds. I don't see this replacing dedicated lowers, because once you've bought enough mags/adapters you can infinitely surpass the overall cost of a dedicated lower. However, someone that doesn't want to knock out a bolt catch for a full auto lower, or SBR to put in some type of 9mm block it's a great idea. As far as the manual of arms, they recommend locking the action back with the mag in, then removing the mag, then then visually/tactically inspect the chamber, which is opposite of everything most people have been taught. That can be off putting for some people but for me just tinkering with it isn't a big deal. They offer a CMMG model meant to work with their radial delay blowback system that has its own ejector which acts just like a 566. Basically they cut the ejector off of the mag. CMMG looks like they partnered with them to offer mag combos and complete rifles. I think they're called ARC. https://www.cmmginc.com/9-arc/ I've had about 1,000 rounds with no issues but i've read where people had had issues with certain style bolts. Mine is a PSA i paid $250 for a complete upper. Some (BOLTS) are cut just slightly different than others. Some of them have to "break in" before they work reliably.

  35. My suggestion would be to shop around every couple years regardless of who you have now. One of the biggest mistakes I made years ago was assuming I was with the best because I never had an issue and the rate appeared to be reasonable. How can you sit and say you have the best out there if you blindly pay year to year without seeing what else is out there ? That extends on many things beyond insurance as well.
