  2. Pretty pleased with myself. Not the most conventional way to hunt a Turkey, but I guess you do what you know best! I stalked it for about an hour and a half keeping the wind in my face, then used a tree between me and him before sneaking up Ninja style! I showed myself, it looked at me, I see a beard and boom. Was a pretty crappy shot to be honest, looked like only one BB got him, but right in the brain! The Turkey was 15lbs in weight, beared was 9 inches long! I processed it at home as it was cool enough today to drive back home, kept the spurs, beared and fan and will have those mounted as its my first! Very happy chappy!

  3. Using a "money is like drugs in various forms" analogy, some senior members of the NRA are at full junkie status. Making a lot in salary is like weed...feels good, tends to become a lifestyle enhancer, an individual may or may not be sated based on their personality. Making a lot of salary, and being able to decrease your taxable income by running expenses that brush legitimacy through a corporation is like cocaine...much more of a rush than weed, but leaves you wanting more. Making a lot of salary, and having personal expenses taken care of (or at the least a lifestyle funded) in a way that never even hits your income before expense reduction or equalization...that's the heroin right there, and you're always after the perpetual high. Going back to a mundane life of the first two options, no matter how much better you have it than the small-folk, is to be avoided like the plague. No surprise to me that WLP is ready to go to the mattresses to keep his status and what it enables. Wouldn't bat an eye if call girls are brought up before it's all said and done...certainly it's about the only routine thing left in a situation like this. I will concede that the NRA needs to pay some folks a high salary. For those living in the DC Metro area alone, you need to pay commensurate to the market. For top level people, you need to pay them in the ballpark for their sector of work, though working for a cause like the NRA should count for something (you would think). But that only enables the weed stage as described above...the NRA has ventured far into cocaine and heroin, and that's going to take a lot of institutional willpower if they want to take the road to recovery. NY State may throw them in a metaphorical detox before they get to that point, however. Having bashed the NRA for their behavior, I'm not really shocked at this because it was always about the money to me. But just how fast and loose they are playing things is a bit surprising. I expected the usual stuff like using an expense policy to fund vacations, generous vehicle mileage, or even organization vehicles assigned, things that you are far more likely to sign off on when it's not your money at stake. Seems there isn't even a modicum of adherence to some guiding rules for their own protection. I mean, seriously...paying the President of the organization through the PR firm is flabbergasting. Non-profits are always going to be under a microscope with financial accounting, and that's a good thing. If they didn't see this day coming, they were idiots. This isn't a private partnership taking expenses at the depletion of their own payouts, it's a non-profit using money raised from the public because [INSERT BOOGEYMAN HERE] is coming for your guns.

  5. If I’m not mistaken dealers buy the stamps from the state then slap them on whatever size container of ammo. Tax paid. It costs the state $19k to run the program that results in $436k net income. I call that highly efficient and a ROI any business would be envious of.

  6. I was afraid to open this thread - thinking they were somehow marketing a new membership level to evangelicals. At least it wasn’t that. I’m to the point that I really believe that the NRA may simply have too much baggage to continue to represent gun owners without spending at least as much time defending themselves. This wouldn’t be a terrible situation if there were other groups that could muster the resources to fight court cases while the NRA takes the heat. It’s clear that what got the NRA to this point won’t get them where they need to be in the future. I’d love to see an advocacy organization that’s as diverse as the gun community is. But, it’s also clear that anyone that wants to boot LaPierre and the current leadership structure better get up pretty early in the morning. Oliver North just found that out the hard way. There’s still a lot of money - and a lot of power at stake. They care about that more than they do the second amendment or anything else. They’re not going to give it up without a bloody fight.

  10. July 1st. How is TWRA going to make up for the $436,300 loss in revenue? How did this even pass with that significant of a decrease? http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0494&GA=111

  11. I just purchased the Ruger Mark IV Hunter to replace the Ruger Mark IV Target that I sold to my business (so my clients can use my personal awesome competition gun to qualify, if they don't have their own gun). The Hunters' weight is in between the Target and the Competition. I felt I liked the balance of the Hunter better than the front heavy Competition so I went with the Hunter for my new competition gun. Here are my initial findings. Very pleased overall. It came with 2 mags, slab grips, TruGlo fiber optic front sight, V rear sight. As new, it felt very tight and a little gritty, so I cleaned and lubed thoroughly before shooting it the first time. It felt a lot better after that! In two short range sessions, I tested 5 types of .22lr ammo, at least 2 magazines of each. I used both the two new magazines and several older magazines I used for competition with my Mark IV Target. I did not mix ammo in individual magazines. All ammo and magazines tested ran flawlessly! Remington Thunderbolt, Aguila Supermaximum Hyper Velocity, Winchester Wildcat, CCI Stinger, American Eagle 38 grain. I realize these are some hot loads, they were what I had around the house. I have more more brands to try at my next range session, a little less hot. The front sight came loose near the end, and I did not have a proper wrench with me so I ended the session. This seems to be common with these particular front sights on the new guns from the factory. They need to be checked and tightened. I am not sure about the V rear sight. I need more range time with it. I felt like I was shooting better with my Target square rear sight, so I might have to switch them if I don't start taking to the V sight soon. I hope you enjoyed my review! I am in the process of building out my website blog to include more reviews and information like this in the near future. https://akvat.com

  13. I've as much told the poor people when they call me I'll donate to the NRA again when they become a pro-gun organization. They...don't know how to respond to that.

  14. They are, a this point and in my opinion, nearly/likely just as bad for gun owners as good for us. I'd love to see the entire organization restructured and filled with people more interested in rights than status.

  17. She’s an idiot. The ATF already takes the licenses of dealers that don’t comply with the law. We have seen that locally for improper bookkeeping. As far as taking away the licenses of gun dealers that have sold guns used it crimes; the ATF looks at them hard and would pull their licenses if they could find violations. I would guess their location has more to do with that than their business practices. I knew when Pelosi was comparing Trumps executive action on the wall to them using it for gun control; they were already going to do it if they get back the Office. Of course facts and common sense don’t matter to any of these clowns; they are playing to their base to get votes. Some of them know they have zero chance of getting elected; but want the name reignition. All we can hope for is every conservative goes to the polls.

  18. A few points: Yes, this was anti-gun tax. It was a tax on top of the normal TN sales tax. It was inefficient to collect. A five round package of shotgun slugs got a single stamp, and so did a 1000rd bulk pack of 5.56mm. TN does not need the tiny amount of money. It probably costs nearly as much to administer the program as it collects. We run a surplus. It makes sense to get rid of small sources of revenue and concentrate on more efficient ones.

  19. Is this tax the same as the Pittman-Robertson act? That was federal so I assume that's still in place. If so, I'm unclear on how this impacts TWRA. Was this tax on top of the federal tax? I'm a huge fan of TWRA... good folks doing good work.

  21. I'm sure my wife is going to kill me but I could not help myself. Two Swedish Mausers (Model 96 and Model 38) and three South American Mausers (Bolivian, Chilean and Argentinaen). All the numbers appear to match. They're all in excellent condition. I also picked up a pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 (serial number points to a 1949 manufacture date). Looking forward to taking these to the range--hopefully next weekend.

  25. I disagree with DaveTN on this. Cops aren't there for you. They work for the prosecutors. I bet its a rare occurrence for a defense attorney to have a cop as a star witness. But the prosecutors sure will. Don't give the cops/prosecution anymore than you absolutely have to until you have an advocate of your own.
