  1. It dawned on me that at this very time exactly 75 years ago, the first of the Allied Forces were jumping into France. The amphibious landing crafts would land a few hours later. All those brave men will be heavily on my mind over the coming days. God bless.

  2. Doesn't seem like this is an eminent domain issue. The .gov wasn't taking his property for a .gov project. He got screwed by the local zoning commission because they wanted more tax revenue from a large private business. I'm sure the proper course of action would have been to spend truck loads of money suing the municipality, because that's the only way to accomplish anything in modern America. This guy chose civil disobedience instead. If you're gonna do that, do it with style. He did.

  3. My Father was there. He landed at Omaha beach with the 29th Infantry Div. He very rarely talked about his service, but one time he did mention that he had witnessed a landing craft drop its ramp right in front of a german machine gun. No one made it off the boat. I remember seeing the tears swelling in his eyes. A few months later, some where in the middle of France, german artillery damned near blew him to pieces. Nobody thought he'd make to the aid station, much less survive. But he did. He was a tough old bird.

  5. My go to value/cost rifles are CZ's. Usually excellent accuracy and fit and finish are better than anything else in the price range. Savages will shoot well and be cheap, but they just don't do anything for me from a looks standpoint. I like wood and blue. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/62354/cz-usa+cz455+american+22wmr

  6. No, as I stated in the post, this was not an Eminent Domain issue. I was commenting on Chucks comment about property rights. I’m just surprised the SCOTUS ruled in favor of it.

  7. L-Lysine as Jackson said but also B-12. Both support the nervous system.

  8. I'm sorry you are experiencing this Greg. They suck! I had my first outbreak at around age 40 (I'm 65 now). Being a nerve pain they are their own special kind of hell. But like @Sunfish said, they'll run their course which is usually 10-14 days with lessening intensity. For me, ibuprofen makes the pain tolerable. But after you've had them once, you can tell when an outbreak is about to start...that is a particular painful sensation (usually in the same area or region as the initial outbreak site...mine is almost always along the nerve pathway on the right side of my neck.) For me, protracted exposure to direct sunlight (8-10 hours) can trigger an outbreak. So I try to avoid that if possible, or at least wear a covering garment (broad brimmed hat etc) if I have to spend that much constant time in the bright raw sunlight. I've never found the anti-viral meds to be of much use. As I mentioned, I can generally tell when an episode is starting (and it happens to me at least every 1-2 years since my first outbreak). THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE! A friend of mine back in New Orleans, a Cardiologist of Thai descent who had a solid understanding of "natural medicines" recommended L-Lysine ...more in a minute... you'll read various proponents and discounters of this "remedy" and probably not find any evidenced based studies, especially from pharmaceutical companies (since they can't make any money off of this treatment...) What works for me, and I stress this is not medical advice, is that when I first notice that particular nerve pain sensation, again usually in the same nerve pathway on the right side of my neck, I take two 1000mg L-Lysine (Spring Valley from Walmart), once in the morning, at least 1 hour before of after any caffeine consumption, and two 1000 mg tablets about 12 hours later. I do this for 3 days running and this usually keeps the area from breaking out. There is residual tenderness aka pain, but this works for me to greatly reduce (attenuate) the outbreak and discomfort. I've shared this "plan" with several, many several, folks over the years and it's worked to one degree or another with them. Generally very positively. I can't promise it'll work for you or anyone else. But it works for me. I keep a bottle of the L-Lysine in my locker at work (12 hour shifts so I can't just run out and pick up a bottle). Best of luck to you and I wish you a speedy recovery and that you never have a recurrence. Again... this is not medical advice. I'm just sharing my personal experiences with this cursed affliction.

  9. CZ455. Full stop. There’s not a better production gun out there today. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a Savage bolt gun in .22 mag. Cooper rifles are gorgeous - and are great shooters - but you could by 5 CZ’s for the cost of a Cooper.

  10. While I would never go to the extremes this guy did...the fact he only flattened the buildings and didn't kill or injure the people responsible for his plight makes him a folk hero...albeit a crazy one...in my mind. You really can never know what someone will do when you push them to their limit...best not too.

  12. I don't see anything in that post that disputes what I said. Perhaps the reader isn't the issue but rather the author. And there is no hatred. I can't hate you, Dave, I don't know you. Let me write a post that opposes your view but is structured like the post we are talking about. "The cop saved that man's life by administering first aid and keeping him alive until paramedics could arrive and transport. But he's still a cop." Read that a few times and see how it reads to you.

  13. I've been pretty lucky as I have only had one bad gun. Every gun I ever bought except one has ran well right out of the box. The exception was a CZ P-07 . I got it the year it came out. I couldn't get through one magazine without a malfunction. The trigger would not reset al the time. Then the frame began to "bow" outwards. I couldn't not trust it anymore. CZ sent me a new one but I traded it in for a used Glock 34. I try to run at least 75-100 rds before I trust it will run correctly. In my opinion a good gun should not require a break-in period.

  15. Differing perspectives are always valuable, but there are two main issues I’d take with that article. First it frames it as if Heemeyer was somehow obligated to sell his property to the concrete folks. (Nope!) Also, it omits the two main facts that go a long way towards justifying his actions to me. The access road and the sewage hookups and fines. Those two things take it from a “petty zoning issue” to an egregious trampling of the man’s property rights.

  16. Actually, he killed himself. The Killdozer wasn’t built with an escapee hatch. He knew it was a one way trip from the very start.

  17. That is an amazing story. It reminds me of the autopsy photos we were shown at my department of a guy that took (14-19?) rounds on 9mm in solid body hits. He didn’t know it yet, but he was dead, and he was still standing returning fire. As that Officer discovered the will to live and an adrenaline rush is a strong thing; for both of them. The Newhall incident, The Miami shootout, The North Hollywood shootout, what happened to Sergeant Gramins, Pulse night club, Vegas shooting, the Waffle House shooting, and many others teach us that given the chance bad guys will kill you in a heartbeat. And while having that beat into your head there are those that want you to wait those precious seconds with an armed criminal to see what he will do. Yep, the Nashville DA and Mayor should be ashamed of themselves. Heck with that, when a criminal threatens someone with a gun their rights end. I suspect a jury will agree. If they don’t, we are all in danger, not only from the criminals, but from the legal system being used as a political weapon to help people get elected. Cops get tired of fighting both sides.

  18. Wow! I can’t believe it’s been 15 years. That was a man with a grudge. I could surely sympathize with him, but the reasonable side of me thinks he’d have been better off spending his money on competent legal counsel.

  19. Zero malfunctions is normal. The reason we run a bunch of rounds through a gun is so that we have confidence in them - and our ability with them. I'd argue that once you've had the failures, you probably know all you need to know about that particular weapon. You might smooth it out and run hundreds of rounds through it flawlessly. But you'll still have that question in the back of your head. You can talk yourself into it - but why?

  20. It's a great show - especially if you're interested in meeting and getting to know some of your favorite makers. One of the things that has impressed me about the knife community at large is how genuinely friendly and willing to share knowledge the community remains. It's a great place to go and see some true art - it's also a great place to go and just spend a fun afternoon and maybe come away with a couple of cool blades.

  21. 1st video must be "How to hunt, butcher, and cook a Possum in a cast iron skillet over an open fire while wearing no shoes". Just so we set the tone. (Coming from a born, bred, and lifelong TN resident by the way. My family resembles that video...)

  22. My step-son had them in his mid 30’s. He went through a bunch of shots. You may already know this but if anyone in your family (or close around you) hasn’t been immunized for chicken pox or already had them; you are contagious. You need to get off here and quit watching the news; you are supposed to avoid stress when you have them.
