  1. What AJ is getting at is that people are often asking the WRONG questions. "CAN I shoot him?" is a question of ability and to some degree availability of a gun with which to shoot him. "Should I shoot him?" is a question of ethics or morals. "May I shoot him?" is a question of permission or legality. "Must I shoot him?" is the only question we need to have a clear answer for (and that answer is usually crystal clear if you know what to look for) So people should be asking themselves if they MUST shoot not if they can, or should or may. Your answers will probably be different in your home vs in public. Questions of Ability, Opportunity and Jeopardy seem to be easier to answer when they are being asked about someone in your own home instead of in a parking lot.

  2. Modern history has shown the GOP to be the party to take away gun rights. The only thing that the Democrats have done in my lifetime was the 94 AWB and that was temporary. In that same amount of time, every time a Republican has been in power, the changes have been permanent.

  3. Missed this as we don't follow much local news. "Suspect fled when confronted" Everybody got lucky. From the video, BG was ready to use the crowbar as he came around the corner and headed down the hall. Appears enough ambient light, the homeowner should be able to identify he didn't have a Bible in his hands. Homeowner didn't get brained, BG didn't get shot. Starts an interesting rhetorical questions for the gun owner, attributed to Lee Weems Can I shoot? A question of ability. Should I shoot? A question of morality. May I shoot? A question of (legal) permission. In this case, assuming you cause no damage or injury to your neighbors, you should be legally protected. Despite the media re-labeling home invaders as "unwanted visitors" The final imperative is, must I shoot? A dude kicks in my door, knowing I'm home and has a weapon in his hands, it will probably be easy for law enforcement to locate him. We use this best practice: lock bedroom door, have cell handy, and be ready. I've got insurance and stuff is replaceable. If you've got kids and need to gain a better defensive position, keep you plan simple and maintain perfect muzzle and trigger discipline.

  4. I seen some raised garden kits for sale on Craigslist, from a company, and decided to give them a try. Now I see that Home Depot, has the connectors to use with wood. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oldcastle-7-5-in-x-7-5-in-x-5-5-in-Tan-Brown-Planter-Wall-Block-16202336/206501693 Mine are cement, but the "boards" are kind of fragile, I've already broke a couple. I chose this spot because it's the only decent spot in the yard, sun wise. I use garden fabric to keep the weeds at bay. I still have to weed in between, so I bought a stirrup hoe at the PX for less than $20 which works great for that. Once the tomatoes get taller, I cage them, but next year I'm considering using the yoyo and string method. https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Retractable-Stopper-Support-Hydroponics/dp/B07GNHQQD9 I ran electric fence, not energized yet, for the rabbits and these guys. I ran one last year and it worked good, but my energizer went bad so had to get a new one. Last year we had some dry spells, and the sprinkler wasted too much water, so this year I hot a cheap soaker hose at harbor freight. I ran it in a zigzag pattern because running it down the furrows didn't water evenly. Last year I had a huge hot pepper harvest, so this year I kind of overdid the tomatoes, but I also planted more cucumbers and some sweet potatoes and a few peppers again. I have some asparagus in containers, but need to read up on them, I don't want them taking over the garden.

  5. Correct! Also, I just realized that the 94 AWB, or Brady Bill, was championed by a lifelong Republican. Only more reason not to trust them.

  6. 56's will require the highest rings made and in some instances, that still wont be high enough on non tapered barrels. Another factor is, is the tube long enough to put you in the best eye relief. 2 pc bases make that more critical than multi slotted one pc bases. I was a dealer when the entire bigger is better at light gathering debate raged in the late 80's. Leupold made the case again & again that its in the coatings rather than diameter of objective lens that determine illuminating ambient light transmission to the eye. Regardless of the science back then, "looks" won out at the scope counter. Maybe things have changed since then but keep in mind, if you like a comfortable cheek weld and a fast target acquisition, I'm not sure you will be happy with a 56.

  7. This isn’t an exhortation to vote for Democrats, but one to stop believing and trusting Republican politicians when they say they support your 2A rights. They don’t. They just want your votes and have no qualms about lying to you to get them.

  8. Thanks! As you can see I posted without reading through the thread haha. I’m gonna hopefully take some time this evening and start from the beginning to read. My only thought was to go a little higher than that but I assume the timbers are far cheaper than trying to build it out of larger treated boards. This looks nice as well. I plan to place these within a soon to be pea graveled area on the side of the house so weed eating should be minimal.

  9. I hate to "quote" myself , LOL. But I posted on June 3rd the method I use. It's super simple and no hammer nor nails are involved. Very easy to replace the landscape timbers after 8-10 years as they will eventually decompose. I make my beds in units of eight's and four's. The landscape timbers are generally 8'. I cut 4 in half (8 four ft pieces) and leave 8 of the landscape timber uncut. I simply stack them using small, iirc, 3' T-pieces sunk to hold them, Then fill with a combination of bagged manure and garden soil. I run chicken wire around the tops leaving plenty of space to weed-eat. I staple the chicken wire at it's base as the friggin' rabbits will otherwise climb in and feast! They are incredibly easy to maintain, but being raised may require more frequent watering than in ground beds...depending on natural rainfall, soil content etc.I usually water mine every 2-4 days. fwiw the "long bed" is 16 feet and that's a 16 foot piece of cattle panel fencing I picked up from Tractor Supply about 9 years ago. Cucumbers, beans, anything that vines, love to climb and adhere to that sucker! Below are a couple of pics from yesterday. If you look at my post from June 3rd, you can see how well these beds can produce. We'll be taking our 4 cutting of the Bright Lights Swiss Chard today. I know there are multiple methods for raised beds, but this is the simplest and most easy to maintain that I've ever made. Keep us posted and share a few pics. We can all learn from each other.

  11. I guess it shouldn’t amaze me how “brave” these guys are now but it still does. My home is off the beaten path so I believe my chances of this happening are slim but still lingers in my mind for that same reason.

  12. I usually avoid ranges on the weekend because there are too many people....particularly ones that like to flag everyone at the lanes beside them.

  13. Noticed that as well. Used the handy crowbar key conveniently left on the porch to pry the flimsy frame. I guess a ladder was left pretty accessible for second story work if ground floor was more secure. Alarm dog as well. As to your bias, because I am no longer single nor party like a rockstar in my bachelor pad, I too, felt disdain for the apparent lack of basic housekeeping. Lots of what ifs...and I've done worse. To your point, there are some less than desireable neighborhoods off Clinton Highway

  14. It’s a shame people feel they keep having to question the legality of killing someone that is committing a criminal act putting them in danger. Hopefully some day that will change.

  15. Well I'm special. I am one of those 9. I sincerely believe Trump turned his back on gun owners over bump stocks. Are they worthless? Yes. Do I want one? No. Do I care that they are worthless and they are now considered a machine-gun and thus illegal? 100%. Republican House, Republican Senate at the time. Absolutely, 100% nothing had to be done at that time. He could have shown his sadness over Las Vegas and moved on. People said he was just "working the art of the deal, he's probably going to work something to trade bump stocks for the Hearing Protection Act". Well, he played hard, dealt hard, and got bump stocks classified as machine-guns. How? He suggested that the ATF review them to see if they should or should not be legal. What did we get? I'll ask again. What did we get? What...did...we...get? Where was the NRA? I honestly cannot even remember what the NRA was doing at the time. Yes I do, they needed money to fight the Democrats. Now Trump is making comments about not liking suppressors, not one bit. He likes the idea of banning them. So, what sort of awesome deal can he art for us this time? This is going to be great, especially if he wins another turn. He'll artfully negotiate our rights away one at a time, all the while Trump supporters will pretend to agree with it ---- pretend that he's got some long con game ---- pretend he's better than Obama for our rights ---- and then gripe during either the 2020 or 2024 election that Democrats are taking our rights/guns away. To be fair, I never considered Trump a pro-gun candidate. I thought he might be a less anti-gun president than Hilary, and so far I think I was correct. But Trump was not and is not pro-gun, he's Pro Trump and whatever tickles his boat and floats his fancy at the time. If he even has an inkling that he'd receive praise for signing away suppressors, I think he would do it. He doesn't care that they are already heavily regulated and taxed with stiff penalties for infractions. And either way, it's dangerous. If he does it by Executive Order that sets an extremely dangerous precedent and stage for true believers, truly anti-gun people. If he signs a bill passed by both the House and Senate, there is no telling what gets attached to it at the last moment (see Hughes Amendment for example). Yeah, I don't trust Trump with this or any gun related topics. I don't fear him as much as Hilary, but at least with Hilary we would have had gun owners united against her generally speaking. Now we have a lot of pro-gun people that are excusing the actions and words of Trump that would not be excused if it were Hilary in office.
