  1. Well shoot. I just renewed my DL back in April. Its extremely rare for me to fly. Then again, if I was to decide to take a trip somewhere, I guess I'd have to get a new DL as part of the planning process. I don't have a passport either. I rarely go anywhere I can't drive to. I guess I'll deal with it when I have to. And all this because the feds have messed things up so bad that we now have to prove we're U.S. citizens. "Papers Please".

  2. All true but you gotta admit that this volume of shooting on the interstate is out of the ordinary. Not that ordinary has ever been an apt description of Memphis, lol.

  3. I work with a lot of distressed organizations. One thing I can guarantee - if what’s making the press is this insane - what’s going on behind closed doors is a magnitude of scale worse. The unfortunate part of a lot of this is once the lawyers get involved - there are suddenly a lot of outside interests represented. Many of those are necessarily sort of winner take all and do not align with the interests of the organization. They may well survive - but it’s going to get worse - before it maybe gets better. Unlike most organizations going through hard times - they’ve got a lot of people who are lining against them at the same time.

  4. I agree. For this to continue to be an effective organization...head(s) must roll somewhere at the top. If Lapierre truly has the best interest of the 2nd Amendment and the people at heart...he should leave.

  5. If the NRA is going to come out of this strong, WLP needs to step down. It doesn't even matter if he is responsible for any of the crap. He should throw himself on the grenade, and turn leadership over to someone else. If he doesn't, its always going to be to the detriment of the organization.

  9. It is demonic forces. No I am not kidding. Just look at some of the news headlines from around the state. Things like folks beating toddlers to death, starving them, men beating their pregnant wives or girlfriends and killing her and the unborn child. The devil and his demons at work. Look at some of the mugshot pictures and tell me they aren't possessed. Granted alcohol and drugs may be involved, but they look demonic to me.

  10. Mt Juliet TN mayor proposed a ordinance allowing city employees, who have valid concealed carry permits, to carry their EDC to work. He explained after the latest mass shooting where 11 city employees were killed, he feels his city employees have a right to self defense even at work. His plan is to allow them to carry for self protection. Be interesting to see if this flies. By the way, I agree with him.

  11. https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2019/06/25/new-law-allows-online-course-conceal-carry-permit/ ASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Shane Kerwin just retired from the military. As a fire arms instructor at Royal Range, he's a big fan of people having guns. "Yeay, I would say I'm pro second amendment, absolutely," said Kerwin. Hes not, however, a fan of Tennessee's newest gun law. Backed by the NRA, the new law allows people to get their conceal carry permits online, meaning they could get their permit with out ever having shot a gun. All they have to do is take a 90 minute online course instead of taking the previously required eight hour in person, hands on course. "I think, probably, our biggest concern is that people will just take the online class and then not seek out any additional training and think that, 'well, I've done that so now I'm actually qualified to do this,'" said Kerwin. Representative Andy Holt sponsored the bill and said it's about saving people money and time. "You know, if we're talking about having to take a class that requires eight hours of classroom instruction, then that means I'm going to have to be away from my family, away for an entire day," said Holt. Holt also said he wants to see guns in the hands of as many law abiding citizens as possible. "In my opinion, more guns does actually create less crime," said Holt. The law passed. It goes into effect January 1st. So instructors like Kerwin said all they can do now is hope people act responsibly and seek out hands on training instead of relying soley on the online video. “There’s a lot more to it than that. Having professional instruction by somebody that is qualified and knows what they’re doing goes a very long way to teaching you what you need to do, but also what not to do and what could be dangerous and unsafe,” said Kerwin.

  14. The last SRO I remember from my school days was somewhere between convalescent leave and retirement. Nice guy, would take his lunch in the cafeteria to sit and chat with students, positive influence as @Ronald_55 alluded to...but today I wouldn't look at him and think man of action. Still, putting a good person willing to do what a situation calls for is a step in the right direction. Hopefully we'll see folks of that ilk rather than ones clocking away to a pension will along the Parkland model.

  18. Sorry, that's not correct. Current TN driver's licenses are not REAL ID compliant. You'll be able to get one beginning July 1. An ID that's REAL ID compliant will have gold start in a circle on the face of the ID. https://www.tn.gov/tnrealid/what-is-real-id.html Hope this helps, Whisper

  19. I think most of us do. I think people should be trained, but I too think that is their responsibility. I recently changed my mind on requiring training; you can’t require training for a Constitutional right. Tennessee doesn’t recognize carry as a right; so, they can require anything they want…. but that doesn’t make it right. Also, take a look at the accidental/negligent shootings we see. It appears to me that most of them are committed by people who at one point had basic training but have become complacent.

  20. I know we will not come to an agreement on how much training, if any, should be required to carry a deadly weapon in the public domain. Certainly the majority will not seek any additional training period. The problem is when the poop hits the fan, I don't won't to be downwind of the fan that is slinging bullets. Few train for square range accuracy much less stress environments where every shot counts.

  21. Probably not. It's as I said. Primarily a revenue source. Secondly it does give those without your background a bit of an education. I'm not saying this is the answer to all the people getting a CCW, it's just a procedure that gives that warm and fuzzy feeling to the public at large. It lets them think all is well with the world if you do have. Secondly, it does, in my opinion, give at least a listing of who might own a weapon to Big Brother. State, or is it Fed now going thru the Dept. of Homeland Security; issues the certificate(call it what you want...permits, liscense, or whatever) to those taking the "course." IMO, just a revenue source, and another back-door registry of owners. I don't dispute that there are a great many here, and around the nation, that this course is probably not relavent to, nor necessary, as they have far more experience than we civilians will have. But that's the way it seems that lawmakers want it done.

  22. Since the law holds people to a legal standard in both self-defense and negligence situations I think it should be up to the individual to decide what training they need.

  23. This could have been easily accomplished by passing constitutional carry. I personally am not for this new change, it is just pandering to the pro-gun folks that don't seem to realize that it doesn't do much for them since most pro-gun folks already have their "not really enhanced" CCW permit. I think it is a personal responsibility to make sure you know how to handle a gun, but it should not be legislated.

  28. what a shame......a whole 8 hrs away from their family. So a mistake, accident, negligence and you take away a life. That's permanent and a lot longer than 8 hrs. And taking additional training ? Yeah, right. Most don't even shoot once a month, let alone take additional training.

  32. Guys, its Memphis. People shoot each other there all the time for no reason whatsoever. If you've ever driven the interstate around Memphis, you very quickly learn what road rage is. Terrible traffic, idiot drivers and there's always a construction zone making things even worse somewhere. I'm surprised there aren't more shootings than one a week. Just another day in the big city.

  33. Beware civil immunity is available as long as you are not negligent and act reasonably. Additionally your case has to be ajudicated not simply dismissed. You will still be held accountable for each round you fire and what damage is done.

I was an Okla. resident and walked into a store something like a Service Merchandise in Norfolk, Va. paid for the gun and walked out with it. Last week while out searching for a Wrangler, this one followed me home. Not a great deal but a decent one ($424 OTD)

  38. Word is filtering down through even the most news-adverse parts of the membership, and I see no way the NRA is going to remain particularly influential unless LaPierre and Cox depart. Maybe some others high up also, including perhaps much of the existing BOD. I see Allen West agrees: One of the mantras of the left has for some time been "don't fear the NRA", and this whole scandal simply amplifies that. Though I've often been critical of its PR methods, I had no idea that the NRA operated like this. The fact it's in the red at all, let alone due to mismanagement and greed (and perhaps outright illegal graft), shocks even a cynic like me. If I'm any example, it will be suffering financially more than ever in short order (I'm an endowment member, and wish I could get a frigging refund). - OS
