  1. Let this be a reminder to everyone in all municipalities. The City of Knoxville is by no means some republican stronghold, it is actually fairly liberal government-wise as are ALL metro areas in the country. Even though Knoxville city elections are “non-partisan”, it is clear where most of the candidates stand. The lesson is that democrats are turning out in droves. Liberal activists are out in force and are running for office. This is all a direct result of Trump being elected. Democrats are more organized and driven now than they every have been. Keep an eye out on what’s happening in your local governments and go out and vote.

  2. I really can't disagree with any of the above. I understand the frustration, I can relate to it, and I get why it was said. It's a worthy gut-check. I think it could have been worded a little differently so as not to completely have turned the audience against you, @asu174. TGO in general has always been supportive of our local law enforcement because the local cops have proven to be pretty responsible folks. But I really don't believe there's a whole lot of "Tread harder, Daddy!" going on here even though you do see that happening pretty rampantly on social media these days. You made an excellent point about the clown in Ohio basically being a poster child for the crackdown on open carry in Wal-Mart stores. We've had our own local 2A-sshole [link] pull those stunts in the past to the detriment of the 2A community, and TGO didn't cut him any slack and certainly didn't criticize the police for their responses to his antics then.

  3. I don't know. I'd love to forget it. I'd love to not feel the sense of guilt when it comes around every year because I got to go home that day when a bunch of other folks didn't. I'd love to not feel the sense of dread about having to make sense of explaining what happened to my kids - and I'd love to not have to watch them struggle with the realization that really, the only reason I'm still here is a few minutes worth of luck. A bunch of us would love to close our eyes at night and not remember - or maybe at least not in so much detail. Or all the things that have come after. I'd love it if one of our nation's biggest tragedies hadn't become our surest and most marketable means of displaying your patriotism and civil religion. I'd love it if we hadn't followed the loss of 2,977 American lives with the loss 2,400 people in Afghanistan and 4,400 people in Iraq - with no more idea of what victory on the battlefield looks like than we had 18 years ago. I'd love it if the average American actually had any connection to this never ending war. I'd love it if we treated all the vets we've created and their families with the integrity they deserve when they get out. I'd love it if we lived up to the best version of ourselves - that our nation has no permanent enemies. That like Japan and Germany, you can go from bitter enemy to most important trading partners in a generation. I'd love it if I could get on an airplane without having to take my shoes off in the name of security theater. For that matter, I'd like to clip my Spyderrco back to my pocket after going through the metal detector like I did on the morning of September 10, 2001. But, to each their own, I guess. It's America after all.

  4. I’d venture to say that in the grand scheme of things, what takes place on the local level is of far more import than what happens in Washington.

  5. Knoxville, like all other TN cities, cannot enact any gun laws beyond discharge of firearms, location/existence of shooting ranges, and carry by employees/contractors. (edit: all three are already prohibited) - OS

  6. I thought I wanted a scoped revolver. But all of my centerfires are S&W pre-locks that I didn’t want to Drill &Tap. I was kicking around the idea of a new 686, they are drilled & tapped for a scope mount from the factory. But then I looked at my 617 and saw that it was factory drilled & tapped. So I guess I’ll try it on a rimfire first. Should get to try this out this weekend.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is this: My favorite part of this video - is watching the engineers watch it in awe. These guys work here everyday - and still are fascinated by the drop. I'd love to have a high speed camera.

  14. I do ladder loads, as little as .2 grains or as much as .5 grains using the same wgt. cast boolits and compare the results. Surprising how much difference .2 grs can make. I always keep the same seating depth and the same crimp. Every gun[barrel] has a sweet spot, just have to find it.

  27. No good options from that list. Look at this, "City Council Seat B David Hayes: We need to expand what the government typically does. Removing guns from the public is important. Making it as hard as possible to sell guns in Knoxville. " Yikes...

  29. Increased velocity and/or lighter projectiles generally make the bullet impact lower in a handgun. This is backward from a rifle. I believe the reduced dwell time the bullet has in the barrel means it exists before the muzzle has a chance to rise as much as it does with a slower projectile with more dwell time. This doesn't seem to be a big factor in rifles. I'm not sure if it's because a rifle bullet has a lower dwell time, or a rifle has less muzzle rise. I suspect the latter is the bigger factor.

  37. Wow. I did my apprenticeship on VW aircooled flat fours when I was a kid (sonofa.......30 years ago) Sooooper simple to work on. The only mechanical thing that you absolutely HAVE to check, literally every time you drive it, is the oil level. The oil pan is very wide, very long & very, very shallow. The gap between 'full' & 'top up' is tiny. If it's a hair below 'minimum' on the stick, it WILL seize & throw a rod. I couldn't get The Wife to understand that & replaced 2 1300s & a 1600 Super motor before I sold her '75 out from under her. She honest to God killed 2 in 6 months. Heater exchange elements tend to crap out before anything else (assuming U.S. Spec vee-dubs are the same as UK spec) but they're a simple job to replace. Which engine's in the ragtop you're looking at? I ask, because the cases ate slightly stronger on the 1200 than the 13 or 16s. They're slower by quite a bit than the 1600, but there's not a chance in hell I'd buy a 13 over a 12. If you ever need to work on it, it's much easier to drop the motor out than work around the body. 8 bolts to the bell housing, fuel line, alternator/generator (I don't recall the changeover year, sorry) wiring & throttle cables & you're basically good to go. Jack the motor off the mounts, pull it back, drop it down then pick the chassis up & walk it forward. I reckon it'd take me a couple of hours these days, but when I was doing it for a living, me & Vince (Jesus... I just remembered his name!) had it down to about a half hour to do a complete motor swap!

  38. If Wal-Mart really cared about the gun issue, they would remove all guns and all ammo from their stores. The modification of their inventory and sales policies and prohibition on open carry are just an effort to look like they are doing something without really doing anything of true consequence. What is truly troublesome is their foray into firearms politics as evidenced by the company's letter to the White House encouraging stronger background checks and a return to the Assault Weapons Ban. They need to stay in their lane.

  40. Further evidence of Walmart's PC pandering culture about guns and ammo. If they are so concerned the next school, church or Walmart shooter, why don't they get ride of all of their toy "weapons of war" that fill up the toy section. This is in my local Walmart. Are they encouraging children to become War Hawks?

  41. Well I guess I am a Fudd to then........... It is not that I don't care about what the businesses are doing. What I see is companies compromising on what should be done and they are not against gun owners. They just don't want people walking around in their stores showing off their guns which to me is not necessary to begin with. If a person chooses to open carry that is their choice and they can accept what the companies are choosing to do or choose to not do business with them. It is not like the companies are not giving anyone options!.............JMHO

  42. I have said this a couple times and I will say it once more. I have never and plan to never open carry a firearm period. I even go out of my way to amke sure I never print when I do carry. I don't want any bad guy/badguys to have a clue I am armed. That is to my advantage, not theirs. As far any stores of any size that chose to stop Open Carry in thier business it is their privledge to do that. I would very much rather see a No Open Carry sign on a business then a Gun Buster sign on a door preventing me from trading there. I honestly think these store and businesses are trying to work with gun owners if you stop and think about it. They are not taking the easy way out and just putting up gun buster signs. People talking about boy cotting certain grocery stores. Ok what happens when the rest of them follow suit and either go No OC or No Guns period. You better hope you live on a farm and can grow all your food!!! Myself, I am will to accept the decision of Krogers. I avoid Walmart like the plague! Would only go there in an emergency!!! I have been doing business with Walgreens most of my adult life and don't plan on changing anytime soon and I wear my gun in there every time I go and no one knows it but me. I think those businesses that have gone to CC only are trying to compromise with gun owners and I respect them for that...............JMHO
