  6. Back in the mid '80s I picked up one of these that had already had the conversion done. It was nowhere as nice as this one but was a blast to drive. The only problem that I picked up on real fast was having all the metal on the rear end replaced with fiberglass made it notoriously wicked on wet roads. It did, however make at least 10-15 trips to Oklahoma City and back with no problems. If I wasn't so far along in life and was able to still do the type of work required, I would be all over one of these: The "New Beetle" was so unpopular that the used ones are dirt cheap now and the kit doesn't cost that much. I'd say less than $5000 for the whole thing. host images

  7. I also lost interest in the aftermath of Dale Sr.'s death. What they did to Bill Simpson was all I needed to know. Today's NASCAR has as much in common with racing as WWE has with wrestling.

  8. I know several people who are into sporting clays, hunting, etc that have this exact mentality. "I don't own an AR or AK so it won't effect me" thinking that if they sacrifice what other's like they would never come after their shotguns and bolt action guns. No one eats an elephant in one bite....

  9. Cable snares in a PVC pipe can work great if you know that you can keep neighborhood cats out. I expect with Huskies, cats generally stay clear of your yard. The pros won't drown skunks, either. They'll trap them, throw a blanket over the trap, and either gas them or simply relocate them. A guy up the street from me is a wildlife removal guy. You wouldn't believe the number of skunks in his ex-wife's neighborhood.

Shame on the NRA for continuing to hide their actions from members with smoke, mirrors, and closed executive session. 11. I didn't get the replacement magazine until 2 weeks ago, after multiple calls to S&W (they said it was due to closing and moving a warehouse). I had no problems with the new magazine when I shot it. This week, they sent me a new spring with no notice. The new spring is significantly longer than the original spring. The replacement magazine has the same size spring as the original, but it feels stiffer. The new spring is definitely stiffer. I'm going to try it in the original magazine this week. Since my first post in this thread, I have found other reports of stovepipes that were suspected to be due to the spring. The general thought is that because they made the magazine so easy to load, the spring might not have enough omph for the last round. Also, I have been consistently shooting to the left, even with the rear sights drifted to the farthest extent. I know that usually that is shooter error for a right-hand shooter, but I was having tight groups consistently the left of the target. Also, could shoot my LC9, with its long trigger pull, more accurately immediately after shooting the Shield. I found one report on a message board about the front sight wiggling. When I checked the gun, I could definitely move the sight slightly because it has a locking pin on the inside of the slide that allowed movement. I fixed it with Locktite tonight and I'll see if I shoot better.

  13. I had to contribute to this, about 5 years ago I had been seeing a skunk in my barn if I went out there at night and turned a light on, had been carrying my Browning Buckmark and had laid it down which was mistake #1 and had went 10-12 feet away and guess what? Ole Peppy LaPew came strolling in from the Browning side of the barn, I retreated onto a pile of firewood and when he got close I did the standing long jump, retrieved the Browning and shot him. That was in my younger days. LOL I might have been out on the road a wee bit too long. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Do ya think???

  14. I am from Mississippi and evidently the hunters in this neck of the woods don't dove hunt like they did down south. It was a family tradition to hunt doves on opening day, maybe a few time afterwards. I like most hunting, but enjoy doves the most. You don't have to be quiet, you usually don't have to freeze your _utt off. And the very best part is if you wrap a piece of delicious bacon around the little dove breast and place it on your grille for a few minutes, you will have some mighty fine eating!!

  18. The trany is a 4R70W and was used in Mustangs also. There was a durability upgrade put in the trany in the last month or 2 of the 97 model year. Luckily, mine was made in may of 1997 so it was barely inside the up grade window. That's one reason a May/June manufactured 97 or 98 model are the ones to look for. Some of the drive shafts go out of balance so I bought a Dynotech all aluminum drive shaft put in mine. They come with new spicer yokes & U joints. The only bad thing on these particular tranies is the porting has a rather slow and mushy TC lock up. Every one interested in a snappier shift can have a good trans shop perform what is commonly called the "J Mod". Its drilling out some valve body ports. Or there is a re program chip that will do nearly what the J Mod does. I'v got to find a trans guy I can trust to do the mod. Once done, 2nd TC lock up puts rubber into the black top. The mod can be made mild to wild.

  20. I handled one the other day and was impressed. They also recently released a 4” adjustable sight version similar to the one of 30 years ago. I shoot autos, but have a soft spot for wheelguns. Reviews of the new snake guns have been positive. I think Colt is on the right track.

  23. NASCAR died with Dale Earhart sr. They have been going down hill since he died and have been changing to all these crazy points races games. I quit watching them the year after Kyle Busch won the points chanpionship after coming back from that bad wreck in Daytona in the opening race and missing the first 7-8 races. NASCAR threw him a bone and said he could still run for the Championship and he did and won and that was my last year watching them.

  25. I’ve said it, and I know others have said it. If you want to get to the bottom of the reason for the change, look around at all the other sponsors. I would venture to guess that the vast majority of them don’t want their logos featured next to those of manufacturers of “assault weapons” or other scary guns. I’d bet serious cash that folks like Coca-Cola, FedEx, or the big banks said “put our logo next to something like that and you’ll never see another dollar from us.”

  26. I don't own any AR15's or Ak47's but that is by choice and not because I'm afraid they will come and take them away from me and arrest me. I own 1 long gun and it is a Marlin 60 22cal with a scope in case I want to go squirrel hunting. The politicians keep calling the AR's assault weapons or Military style weapons but I know several people that hunt with them and are very successful deer hunters. Yea to a point they are the gun of choice in many of the mass shootings but so have pistols also been used in much the same manner. The mass shooting at W Virginia Tech, 33 people were killed and the shooter was using a Glock 19 and a Walther P22. Are those considered assault weapons now too? Of course not yet!! There have been several other mass shootings where a pistol/pistols were used. The reason the politicians call these guns assault weapons is because if you were to actually sit down with several of them and have a debate you will find most of them could not tell you what gun is which or tell you who the manufacturer is, what the caliber is or anything else about them. It is mostly follow the leader and nothing more. It is a case of the Blind leading the blind and all falling in the same hole!!! Also the politicians that don't want Americans to have guns are the same ones that when they leave their homes they have anywhere from 4 to 8 body guards protecting them with of all things, guns!!! Many of them also carry one themselves. Also I wonder how many of them can tell you what type of firearms Charles Whitman used back in 1966 when he began shooting people from the Tower at Texas A&M. He didn't have one of these so called assault weapons but still managed to kill 11 people and wounded numerous others before law enforcement shot and killed him. It was later said after an autopsy that he had mental issues due to a tumor in his head. So how many people honestly believe that if they did get the so called assault weapons taken away they will stop the mass murders? If that is what they believe they are dreaming!! There is not a law that can be written that will stop Criminals from obtaining guns. There is not a law that can be written that can stop a mass murderer from carrying out their plans. If they can't get a gun they will get a truck, a car, a knife, a ball bat or some other type of weapon but they will continue to kill people. That is what they do...................JMHO
