I smoked our thanksgiving turkey, a pork loin and 3 bolognas in the pouring rain Saturday. It went fine with the exception of dealing with the rain. The pork loin in particular was melt-in-your-mouth tender. These photos are from a year or 2 ago, but saturdays versions look the same. When we got home from church Sunday afternoon, my oldest said that it still smelled like smoked meat in the house. Yeah, ain't it great?

Ive been buying, trading and collecting guns for a number of years now. As I age and have become afflicted with a few health issues requiring daily meds, I realize that one aspect of my desire to own guns/ammo was for survival in a STHF type scenario. I realize now that with these health issues, I wont survive very long without my meds, regardless of how many guns/how much ammo I have, lol. I dont hunt now, but thought I would if i had to in the above situation. In the back of my mind also, I thought that being in a position to trade guns and or ammo would also be a good tool for survival. Rethinking that too. I dont get to shoot as much as Id like, and may actually shoot less when i retire due to reduced income. Anyway, all that to say that I am probably going to thin the herd quite a bit. I cam to this decision some time ago, but the current market is not good for me to sell the guns I want to. Im going to get rid of quite a few i think. Ill be carrying for self defense though, and want to be able to defend my home as well, but i dont need what I currently have to do that. Plus side is this will free up some cash for other things like debt reduction, or other health needs. I just need to figure out exactly what I want to keep and what i want to sell, and start on it. Im a little embarrassed to say exactly how many guns i'll be selling but it will include a nice selection of long guns and pistols. I'll post them on here first. Ill also be eliminating some calibers entirely from my ammo stocks as well.

Trust me I do honestly feel your pain. I’ve hunted a place like that for many years before I found this place. Over the last 4 or 5 years I stopped fighting the “if I don’t shoot it the neighbors will” and started letting bucks walk that I never would have before. It was a small property but private. Bucks started growing and I was amazed at what a couple years did for them. It still has the same neighbors with the same methodology but I still let the bucks with potential walk and if they get them, I did my part to let them grow. Many (and I mean MANY) days I’d sit out there and not see hardly anything or zero deer. But it was a funnel and eventually bucks made their way in. The place I have now is a blessing and I don’t take one second of it for granted. First year hunting it and still learning travel patterns but I’m loving every learning minute I have and can’t wait to further my knowledge of how to pattern and track movement of the groups of deer.

Another Sunday night, another steak. This time a ribeye with a marinade, and crispy potato salad. The marinade was salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and vegetable oil. Sat in the bag for 24 hours in the fridge before being brought out with the steak warming a room temp for 45 min after the excess oil got patted off. After that, 8 min on each side under the high broil of my oven. Next time I'll probably drop to 7min, 30 sec each side. The marinade gave a nice flavorful kick, but not an overpowering one by any means. Potato salad was just a diced up spud (skin on), par boiled then fried until crispy in some more vegetable oil. After that, one spoon Dijon mustard, two spoons mayo, and a sprinkling of salt, pepper, smoked paprika for flavor.

By The Way, RK Prices not bad sometime. That said, I would check Smoky Mtn Gun & AMMO, BUDS, and Floyd's Golf and Guns before buying anywhere else (AMMO or Guns). I say anywhere else, but I am referring to the area of East TN near Knoxville (the ones I mentioned are in Sevierville on Hwy 66 south of I-40 XIT 407). Maybe not practical to check there if live far away. A BUDS bonus, BUDS has a shooting range (nice one) and you get 30 minute FREE Range Time with any gun purchase (new or used). Also, on used guns, can shoot (10 rounds for $10) and if you buy the gun, the $10 comes off the price. Same with new guns, you can shoot the rental for 10 rounds for $10 and if buy the gun, apply the $10 to purchase. It has to be a model for rent on the range. Course, they will not let you shoot a new gun before you buy it (has to be a rental model at the range).

There comes a point in every man’s life where they need to ponder on what they’ve accumulated and what is going to happen to it. Do you start liquidating while you can and recoup or leave it all to heirs who will let it go for nothing?

Personally I’d like to see him promoted to member.

If the rifle is primarily for deer hunting go down to the local WalMart, big-box sporting goods store, or whoever sells the cheapest ammo more than capable of taking a deer, or anything else, at any distance. Note the availability and prices. I bet what they have starts with 30.

Sorry you feel the need to reduce inventory. At 65 although I can still shoot anything fine, I’m facing having to sell my Harley. I can still ride, but I’m tired of listening to friends and family run their mouth about how I don’t ride it much anymore. Brother, not much is selling right now. Tupperware guns if the price is low enough is moving a little. If you can wait until the election next year, they will probably go up substantially. If a Democrat is elected, they will go up a bunch. Also, I think the feds are going to stop private sales. If that happens with warning; sales will skyrocket from the time it passes to when it goes into effect.

I've been having the same thoughts for a while now. I'm in the same boat as you regarding meds, plus my mobility is down to zilch.

Peejman spice that smoked bologna up by coring a hole down the center of the bologna and inserting a stick of Italian or your choice of smoked sausage in it before smoking. I used a pineapple corer with the slicer removed to make the hole . If you like baked potatoes use an apple corer to do the same thing, insert your favorite ingredients, plug the ends with the end of the removed core and bake, great potato bombs. Just pulled Canadian bacon and turkey breast off of my smoker about and hour ago. Yeah that smokey smell is lingering in the air as I type this.

All kidding aside, I recognized the NRA for what it was back in the 80's or so. All that they're interested in is to raise money to pay themselves.

5 years ago, yes. Now, with a 9 yr old who loves to shoot, once they come home they stay.

I get the nostalgia factor, but if you're not dead-set on the Hornet because you think it's super cool I'd encourage you to just go with a .223 in a nice bolt action rifle. If you don't reload, you have a lot more choices in .223 loads, better availability, and lower price per bang. If you do reload, you can mimic the Hornet's good qualities (relatively low powder usage, not much recoil or report) but you also have the flexibility to load something like an 80gr projectile, which a Hornet setup really wouldn't be able to handle.

Everything is application driven. Of course it’s not fast to draw; it’s not a holster. Guns in purses, backpacks, and even Day-Timers is pretty common. The only problem I see with this one is the size. If it will hold a SCCY, but not a Shield, it needs to be just a smidge bigger.

I wouldn't like it, because of the slow draw. My cellphone normally rides in my back pocket and my LCP in my front pocket, in the summer months. If I'm carry my LC9S, then It's holstered in a IWB or OWB holster. Currently, that's either a 1776 4 way or a FOBAS. and my extra mags are in my weak side front pocket. And in the past I've used a belly bag as well. But to me it screams gun.

Marty had some good ones. I prefer a sissy Fanny Pack (wear as a Belly Bag in front). It's big enough to carry lot of stuff in it.

Eh, I kind of went down this route. Ditched the 9mm and only shoot 45s now. No regrets. I would fine that most 9mm would be subsonic but several were supers. I didn't like the inconsistency of it and just went 45.

I have my scoped Marlin bolt action 22 mag sighted in at 75 yards. I have had it for 25 years and I purchased it at Wal Mart for $139.00. I hunted varmints with it on my farm. At that distance I can shoot less than 1" groups of 5 any day of the week. Of course that is off sandbags now, because at my age with my eyes, I can not shoot as well as the rifle can off hand, any longer. Don't own a lever gun in 22 mag but do own one in 38Spl/357 Mag. It is my families favorite rifle and every thanksgiving we get it out and burn a couple hundred rounds of 38Spl. I agree with the others, if you are only shooting paper go with the 22LR. Big difference in cost. My Marlin Magnum is pretty much a safe queen now, but I would not sell it. I have a scoped Marlin mdl 60 I squirrel hunt with in 22 LR. Edited to add; I am going to purchase a Caldwell Led Sled to use while sighting in on my new shooting range. Hope to be using it for my new Savage Axis 6.5 Creedmoor. Are you listening Santa???

Federal HSTs are great through a suppressor.

Check out SG ammo, they have some 158. Thay also have some synthetic stuff but I haven't done my research about shooting it through a suppressor. I like Target Sport USA too, the Federal stuff isn't bad. I Just got a case of Blazer 147 and it's about the same as speer. Not much help i know. The GD Red Flag "laws" are UNCONSTITUTIONAL...and need to be immediately revoked/removed/rejected/thrown OUT . They already killed at least one man over this BS because they CREATED the situation required to kill him.

Hard to beat a 308. Accurate, versatile, not bad recoil, huge verity of loads. Check the Rugar american, Savage axis, Mossberg patriot ( I have the patriot in 308). Should be able to find a package deal for under $500 and mine is a wood stock.

I love .22’s also and I never had even a little bit of desire to own a .22mag. Just like me, everyone is going to have an opinion. But the only one that matters is yours. Is there some reason or application you think a .22mag would be good for? I’m not saying you shouldn’t get it; I’m just curious why you want it? Discuss.

I just added a couple more guns to the classifieds. I’m trying to sell or trade to get what I want while everyone is saving for Black Friday and Christmas; how silly is that.
