  1. I was able to go out this afternoon, and get some shooting done. The weather is 64 and sunny this afternoon. We got 1" of rain yesterday and the new filled ground was soft. I had to put about 1 foot of fill dirt to level out my range and the apron in front of the targets. I have a good new stand of fescue grass and some of the clods were still very wet so my shoes had to be cleaned, I guess one could say it was a tad bit wet. At any rate I shot a 50 round box at 30 feet, into a new H frame target I purchased a couple months ago. I went to Home Depot and got some 8' 1'x4' lumber and cut me tow 4' stanchions to put in the H holder frame. I also ordered some cardboard targets that are a little smaller than the FBI B 27 targets. They also have much smaller heads on the cardboard than a B 27. I purchased them, and the mettle H frame stands from Midway this fall when they had good sales on them. The target zone is much smaller as the A section is 4", the B section is 5", and the C zone is 6" in the chest area, and the semi triangle in the head is a 3" triangle. I like them better because the target areas are smaller and one must take care to get them within the A B C zones. That is good enough for me. I will say the center mass on these targets is still a little low for my liking. My zone is a little higher on the target, say inside of the breast nipples to lower throat zone. I was shooting my M P 9MM C 2.0 pistol. All hits in the chest, were in the mostly A or few in the B zone. I had 6 shots in the head, and hit the A zone 4 out of the 6 at 30 feet off hand. I was satisfied with my shooting. My aim was testing the HP ammo and practicing a smooth trigger pull. I used 4 different kinds of ammo, some hollow points and a few round nose. This was all ammo I had previously carried in my EDC and had collected of the past couple years after prolonged carry. I wanted to see how the M P handled the different H P bullets. I had Cor Bon, Gold Dots, Golden Saber, and Federal in the H P side, and Winchester W B practice round nose to round out the session. This pistol has shot everything I have fed it and I now have around 650 through the gun. I am now carrying it when I go out and using either a Cross Breed IWB or Aherns Belt Slide with a good long tailed LL Bean Flannel shirt, mostly untucked. I really have fallen in love with the trigger on this gun. I reminds me of the single action double action trigger on my Sig 229. It has some take up in it, but the final pull is very short and sweet. Like double action on my 686 after cocking the hammer first. I like that. I almost like stage the trigger, like on a revolver, then when I hit the wall I know it is a very short distance to fire the pistol. I don't know what the poundage is on this trigger, but it is light, guessing maybe 4 pounds, but not as light as my DL 23 Glock. I am still pocket carrying the 7 shot 357 mag in the Desantsis Nemesis pocket holster. Something comforting about that revolver. Been my constant companion for 7 years now. I home carry this revolver 24 7 when not sleeping, and I feel it saved my bacon 3 years ago now. I had an incident going to the Mail box. I would have liked to spend more time shooting, but we have Christmas goodies to take to friends, and a lot of my time was spent on prepping the target and getting tables and metal targets moved to the new shooting range. I have 3 targets with steel plates hanging on chains I shoot at sometimes. Left a short window to shoot. Will try to do more the next time. I can see I am really going to enjoy my new range this coming summer.

  2. Buy as much of it as you can and stack it deep. I've long said that ammunition is the way that the antis will eventually strangle the 2A.

  3. Buy the gun you want, and drop it off at a friends house. A few days later they come by with the gun and say "Thanks for loaning me the gun, sorry I kept it so long." The wife will just think it's a gun you already had.

  4. Hi Greg, Depending on the application, don't limit your search to just IMR 4895. H4895 is very similar in burn rate & performance, with the benefit of being able to shoot reduced loads. IMR 4064 is also similar in performance, especially in a .30-06/.308 rounds. Ed

  7. My recent fruitless search for a pound of IMR4895 has led me to think about the future of reloading. It seems that fewer and fewer stores carry reloading supplies, and the ones that do are poorly stocked. I can order brass and bullets on the web, but hazmat fees make powder and primers a brick and mortar proposition. I guess we reloaders are a dying breed.

  8. This is an older story, but with the holidays upon us that often means turning to a ride sharing service to get from place to place, from parties to home, etc. I tend to vote with my dollars and assume some of you might as well. Maybe call a taxi instead. Source: https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2018/03/lyft-will-offer-free-rides-to-anti-gun-rallies/554756 The ride-hailing company Lyft announced Friday morning that it will provide free rides to students attending the March for Our Lives rallies against gun violence, which are being held in cities around the country at the end of this month. In a statement posted on Twitter, Lyft co-founders John Zimmer and Logan Green wrote: Uber will not be offering free trips to March for Our Lives, according to an Uber representative.

  9. I bought a ARStoner A3 upper a few years back, and love it.Get one. Mine runs fine with steel and brass case ammo, and accurate.

  10. Mine was a few hours ago. Working thru the rationalization still. I did not buy an original select fire rifle that was NIB. I agonized for for nearly 2 hours over buying or not buying. Price was actually pretty reasonable, though not inexpensive. The last 10 minutes on GB, entered my bid in the box...and no less than 6 times hovered on the bid button. Held back each time by all the reasons I concocted not to. Now I'm rationalizing the non practical aspects and that it was not the actual military version I really would want. Countered with I'll never see one NIB again, made more rare by only 450 having been original select fire guns. The military variant aspect is offset by knowing it would be quite a bit more, which makes its eventual selling price seem like a deal in today's market. At the moment, the remorse over not getting something of a rarity is overwhelming the relief of not spending such a big nut a single gun that I know would not get run full auto much. The seller has my contact info, I asked him to let me know if the buyer does not follow up, though I know that wont probably happen. Hope your regrets pass quickly. Or better yet, you avoid them all together!

  11. I think you mean late 80's, $1500 was a early 90's price

  12. And no, a pound of it will last as long as a show ball in the infernal region loading 308/30-06.

  13. Greg, I agree, and it's especially frustrating when it's a common powder and you already have a good load. I just checked, and the local Sportsman's Warehouse in Southaven, MS has IMR 4895 in 1# cans for $32.00, but not 8# jugs, and Academy has IMR4064 for $29/#. I'd also recommend keeping your eyes open for "no hazmat," or "free shipping" sales from different online vendors and buy in 8# jugs. Yes, it hurts to drop ~$200 for 8#s of powder, but that's only $25.00/lb and you can use the same lot for a bunch of reloads. As an aside, it's relatively easy to reproduce jacketed service loads in the Garand using either H/IMR 4895, IMR4064, and Varget to name a few. Just so you know, I shoot a lot of cast out of my Garand with H4895, H4350, and H4831. While the H4350 and H4831 might have too slow a burn rate for jacketed bullets, they work splendidly for cast bullets, especially in the 165-220gr range with no danger of bending the op rod. Here's an example group shot with H4350. Ed

  15. “many bars and most nightclubs are populated by younger people. Take an emotionally charged atmosphere, stir in a generous dose of alcohol and/ or drugs, and you’ve got a good recipe for conflict and violence. Young males tend to have a long list of things to prove, whether they are conscious of them or not. Often their motives are unconscious because they are based on biological patterns of the human species. You probably don’t realize how much of what you think and feel is based on these patterns—and this especially applies to territoriality and status. Young men typically do not truly understand or fully appreciate the physical, psychological, and legal costs of violence. They often feel immortal, never considering the possibility of becoming maimed, crippled, or even killed in a confrontation. Consequently, young men will fight for any number of reasons—affiliations, self esteem, social status, not to be considered a wimp, the clothes they wear, revenge for some perceived slight, to impress a cute girlfriend, or just to blow off a little steam, to name a few.” This statement from The Little Black Book of Violence by Lawrence A. Kane and Kris Wilder has become my standard way of viewing bars/clubs at night.

  17. Quite familiar with that feeling. Yrs. ago, in the late 60's, I was at a gun show in Clarksville. There was a M16 select fire, for I believe, was $1500. I wanted one, for mainly sentimental reasons, as I had one in 'Nam. Had the money, just couldn't bring myself to do it. This was 2 weeks before the new law went into effect regulating full auto. I've regretted this ever since, as you know what they're selling for now, not to mention the Gov. red tape. Oh, well...........

  20. You might want to send Dirtshooter a PM after the holidays and ask him about how well he does with reloading in a shed. We chat a lot and he has been reloading out in his shed for years. He would know all the pros and cons about using a shed for reloading. Just an idea.

  21. I just went to Hobby Lobby and purchased florescent model car paint. Used a base coat of white then laid another coat of either red or green. Always clean and degrease the sight, with alcohol, before painting. If there is any oil on the sight the paint wont adherer well. That has been my experience and it has worked well for me.

  23. If there is power in shed or could be added, why not add a little insulation and make a he-shed. Add an electric heater mounted in a safe spot and you're all set. I would think a sealed box with some desiccant bags and you could even leave the powder out there.

  24. Hadn't checked them out before, just put in an order last night for some 30-30 range ammo, cheapest price I had found on a small order (200 rounds). I was waiting till after Christmas to put in an order to a different site for the exact same ammo and had to buy 400 rounds to get it as cheap.

  25. IDK about that, I rigged the SAR for glass back in about 1986. One time it shot my Sierra 168 BTHP off max loads of W748 into a 10 rd 5/8ths hole @ 100 yds. Normally a flyer or 2 called out a 1.5" 10 string. My rear mount M2 bipod was a success. Back in 86 scope options sucked so I did the next best thing.... THANKS for all the comments!

  26. I have 2 lage uppers for my m10, best upgrades possible. Buy them and don’t look back. Takes it from a bullet hose to a useable weapon you can actually hit stuff with. I have the 10/9 and the max 31 upper. I bought a bunch of suomi drums and coffin mags off gunbroker. Be prepared to spend some money on mags, as price has increased on those mags since Lage came up with these uppers. I have a bunch of these mags and really only use a couple. If you buy an upper, hit me up and I’ll see about selling you 1.

  35. Good for them. Good customer support is great….when you get it. I always thought Smith & Wesson’s customers service was what all others were measured by; and it was for years. I saw all the bad reviews on them and didn’t want to believe it; then it happened to me. I emailed Vortex with some question when I was buying their products. If I remember correctly, they responded pretty quick. Leupold is supposed to have excellent customers service. My only dealing with them was a few years ago when I bought a Leupold scope for a Remington rifle. I used Leupolds website to get the model numbers for the bases and rings I needed. The rings were wrong. The numbers were wrong on their website. I emailed them and they told me to send them in and they would replace them with the right rings and apologized for the mistake. I was leaving in a few days to go to Illinois and shoot. I asked if they could go ahead and send out the correct set so I would have them prior to my trip, and I would send the others back. They said they couldn’t do that. I offered to give them a credit card number to cover them if I didn’t send the others back; they said they couldn’t do that either. So, I didn’t get to take the gun on that trip. I though that was chicken chit, but some folks said I was overreacting. Trying to configure and order a laptop from Dell today. They are advertising a Veterans Discount. However, the folks on the Workstation side won’t honor it. Used to be a company with bad customers service wouldn’t last long, unless they were selling something really cheap. Now bad customer support is the norm, even on high dollar items.

  36. Spoke to the FTB branch today. When building an AR-15 as a "pistol" first it is legal to reconfigure it as a "rifle". It is also legal to take that same "rifle" and return it to its "pistol" configuration from the "rifle" configuration. But during the swapping of parts no combination of parts can assmebled to create a NFA item. But, as always, if an AR-15 is a rifle first it will always be a rifle. You cannot buy an AR-15 as a rifle then turn it into a pistol. And just a reminder if it is a lower that is sold with a shoulder stock attached it is a rifle even if no upper is attached. Dolomite

  37. Amen, brother. I've walked away from Vulcan 22 pumps, JB lever guns, even a complete Dan Wesson kit at reasonable to unbelievable prices. And then turned and bought Desert Eagles. lol But my worst mistake was in the early 80s. I was walking the old Goodman Show(when it actually was a good show) with my wife, and ran across a literal table full of Smith revolvers, We looked at a few and talked with the seller. He pointed to a 3 piece deal on his table...all SS guns. 2", 4", and 6" 44 mags. Prelocks. Boxes and everything. He was desperate to make a sale because of a slow show. Offered me all 3 for 1000 dollars!! I stood there with them. Literally sweating like a stage actor in a flop-sweat. Wife was telling me to buy them...we'd be ok. Do it, go on, do it. I didn't. I walked away. I had the money in my pocket, but had just been laid off and was scared to buy them. I walked away. I want to kick my butt every time I think about it.
