  1. As the security chief for my old church I had the pastor do a security awareness month covering various topics. One topic was telling folks that if they saw someone present a gun in the church then to get down below the oak pews and let the security team handle the situation. He pointed out that the pews offered better protection than standing up and trying to run. Will everyone do that under stress? Probably not, but it would certainly cut down on the number of people blocking a response.

  2. They want to stay in power, so they will be careful to not get into a direct war with the US. They will still train and arm proxies, of that you can be sure but no direct action. The populace is getting mighty tired of shortages and the government, so it will not take much to have their "Arab Spring" moment, TPTB know this and will walk that fine line.

  4. I hope this is the correct way to do this as I am new to posting in any forum much less this one. I am a long time resident of the state of Tennessee and am a retired nuclear power instrument tech. I am partially disabled and I don't get out much except for doctor visits, grocery shopping, and to go to the range and shoot my FN handgun. I have been interested in firearms since I was child and have owned many types of firearms. My main interest now is handguns and I thought it would be fun to join a forum.

  11. Its been decades since my dad has shot anything. And I mean anything (last time he went shooting, I wasnt even alive). I actually found out he bought a norinco sks and brought it with him. Turned out, hes a good shot. Turned out, he never cleaned the cosmoline out of the sks. How did I find this out? My ak and ar got covered in brown ####, and I saw it dripping from the sks as he was shooting it (once I noticed the everything being covered in brown). Overall, a good weekend. I think I might get him to get a glock. (He didnt like my 1911 )

  13. I handload as well and it's definitely worth the time to me. I don't cast but probably should. (A group of us used to but that seems to be on a protracted hiatus...sadly.) But I enjoy handloading and load development. And if your are primarily shooting revolvers (as I have the past 8-9 months) handloading is definitely cost effective. I've put at least 1500 rounds through the LCR .38 I purchased on TGO last April. I couldn't afford to do that otherwise. I generally purchase bulk plated or jacketed 9mm, .380 and .38 bullets during Black Friday sales and that keeps my price per r

A quick read on how Soleimani let a perfect mix of complacency and ego push operational security to the wayside when it came to his travels. https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2020/01/qods-force-commander-soleimanis-carelessness-put-him-in-the-u-s-militarys-crosshairs.php The whole site is great to read if you care about the nuances of what we're doing in the Middle East. It's been bookmarked on my browser since my old boss discovered it in 2007 (we used it before and while in Iraq).

  17. The rockets probably didn't have any warheads in them, they just did not cause enough damage to of had any significant amount of payload. They also did not hit anything of tactical value, and they warned enough people to make sure we got the word before the strike; so this was a feint the whole way.
    1 point
  18. I disagree. They have gone for decades killing our people and our pansy presidents do nothing about it. Now they expected the same with Trump but he disappointed them with a high-value strike. That caught them off guard. I think Trump has drawn a line at taking American lives - even if they are contractors - and the Iranians now know that he means it. Sure, they'll continue to shoot down drones and such, but I think they'll be cautious of taking any more American lives.

  19. No matter how much good comes out of a situation like this church shooting, dem's won't speak of anything positive, only the prog/soc/comm agenda. Defense of one's self, family, friends, innocents doesn't fit their agenda which is total disarmament.

  22. No, I don't think there is much to worry about concerning a war. If Iran does something stupid, (and they may) the military will retaliate with swift force I'm sure. But, I don't see us doing anything before them.

  23. I don't understand why anyone would open carry into a business or in public. Why would you give up the tactical advantage of letting others know that you are armed? Why would you want to be identified as the first person a bad guy would shoot? Why would you want to be hassled and waste time talking to someone about whether or not you had a HCP?
    1 point
  24. Overthinking it. In a crowded room, there will be a "bubble" of people that have direct knowledge of events as they transpire. If the shooter had not been taken out as fast as he was, there would have been enough armed people that could identify and challenge the shooter. There is always a chance of friendly fire, no doubt, but what is the alternative, giving free rein to a shooter while LEO shows up and has the same exact friendly fire scenario too?

  26. Given the targets they chose, the amped up rhetoric for domestic consumption...I think the Iranians are trying to save some pride for the moment while avoiding direct confrontation. Overt acts with conventional military resources aren't their strong suit, so my bet is they'll regroup and go back to the more familiar "terrorist" style efforts for any further retailitory moves that could also just be an extension of efforts already underway. So, for everyone hoping to see B-2 and cruise missle footage...sorry. I guess consult a doctor if your war boner doesn't go away after four hours

  28. Somebody is playing with somebody. Zero casualties. Were they trying to miss? Did they have advanced warning and an evacuation? I don't think Iran is stupid enough to go toe to toe with us. We licked Iraq's ass in a couple of weeks with very few casualties. All the casualties came from the nation building BS, which Trump says he isn't gonna do.

  32. And we never will by those terms. We won the Afghan War (though war is a bit of a misnomer for how intense it was) somewhere between July - December 2002 after we finished chasing the last vestiges of Al Qaeda and the Taliban out of their fallback areas. Everything after that has been the Afghan Counterinsurgency/Occupation/Peacekeeping conglomeration that got refreshed with every new commander who thought it would represent the "turning point" or something to that effect. Forget that in that country foreigners are treated like a body fights off a virus, no matter how long it takes. It

  33. So I went to the range at lunch and put about 50 rounds through my 1911 and 50 through my M&P Shield 45 and about 31 through my M&P Shield 9 (I only had what was in my full mags). The Shield 45 did not have as sharp a recoil as the Shield 9, but it was not as deep (for lack of a better word) a recoil as the 1911. I need to shoot both Shields side by side more to get a better opinion, but I already think I like the 45 more than the 9. I still like my 1911 the best. I can keep a decent grouping in the center and further out with it. I still pull down and left with both Shields (no

  34. How many times will Islamic countries in the Middle East and Western Asia have to tell us explicitly, and in no uncertain terms, that they do not want us mucking about in their internal affairs and conflicts with other Muslim countries before WE get a clue? Remember, the Iranian government that exists today does so because we deposed a democratically elected president who was not keen to ally with the US in favor of a brutal dictator who was. Then we kept him in power for over two decades. Then when the people of Iran had enough, we teamed up with the brutal dictator next door to s

Not a lark, my wife and I spent a year and a half choosing where to go, eastern Tennessee was the choice for MANY reasons. We're glad we're here, we're not going anywhere. I told her "when I die, have me cremated and sprinkled on the hill in back." Anyway... I know people personally that now live in Virginia. One of them has been going to "Lobby Day" for years. She's active politically and articulate, and when she tells me they're concerned about what will happen when the legislators come back I believe her. Libs WIL

  36. Once I shoot my M&P Shield 45, I will give an opinion. To date, I have only shot 45acp through a full size 1911 (I’ve had two). I too am curious how the lighter frame, shorter barrel will be as compared to a full frame 1911. Hitting the range tomorrow so I will let you know.

  37. My view is that we have this problem with Iran today because Carter and Reagan didn't have the stones to take care of them in either 1979 or 1983. I understood Carter's inaction because he was a known pansy. I did NOT expect Reagan to allow the deaths of so many of my brother Marines, soldiers, and sailors to go unanswered. It's why I get annoyed to see people lift him up as a great president. Had we counter-struck 10 fold back to Iran with cruise missiles they would not be still killing our people today whether directly or indirectly. Will this lead us to war? I am no more of a prophet

I have a friend buried in Arlington who lost her life when an EFP hit the Buffalo vehicle she was riding in as the medic on a route clearing mission with engineers, so I had a bit of personal interest while reading we smoked "Haji Qassem". My first thought at this was "holy ####", and I'm willing to say it was a happy feeling. This guy was as important as can be to Iran's foreign policy aims, and the stories about him probably undersell how good at his job he was. Both the Bush and Obama administrations didn't think it was worth the predicted backlash to kill Soleimani, even though he was c

  41. It is my opinion if a church is going to have a safety team, the other church goers should be talked to also(train the audience). These church goers, most of them, ducked down, which is a good thing. It gave a clearer sight picture of the shooter plus got themselves out of the line of sight (fire) of the security team and shooter. After training our safety team, at my church, you would be surprised how many people did not even know the street address of our church building. How can one call 911 and not even know the address. I had 2 guys that were designated 911 callers on our team. My

  43. Just my opinion, but I think its just that its lost its popularity. Of course, the cost argument continues, but when I looked at it, it wasn’t much (if any) of a cost saving option. The quality and repeatability argument doesn't make much sense to me either, modern manufacturing techniques and inspection can produce ammunition far more consistent than in the past.. There are people doing everything they can to increase the manufacturing costs of ammo. They will do the same to reloaders supplies. I think it will always be available. But like many things, you won’t be able to run down to yo

  45. Marlin and Henry both make excellent lever guns. I can't knock either one. However, I've always preferred the feel and handling of Winchesters. Especially the 16" Trapper Models. In .357, I'd highly recommend you look at the Rossi Model 92. Its a clone of the original Winchester Model 1892. Its a bit lighter and trimmer than the Model 94 and Marlins. It was originally designed for pistol caliber cartridges, so its a bit smoother and more reliable than other guns modified to shoot the shorter handgun rounds. These are currently made by Taurus and I've heard good things about them.

  46. They can ask whatever they like; they don’t need a law to ask. And the HCP holder can either comply or refuse and leave. They don’t need to be posted to ask someone carrying a gun to leave. They just have to be properly posted for the holder to be cited. In my opinion its better than posting. In checking, they found that the patron was not in compliance with the law; so he was carrying illegally.
