  1. 6 people out of 470,000 residents. Only 114 active cases. Not that anyone asked, but I don't believe the data supports closing the entire country again. It made sense in population dense areas like NY. It doesn't make sense for us. We have hospitals here in Knoxville that have only seen 1-2 COVID patients. I'd like to see an option where high risk individuals could choose to stay home and receive unemployment assistance. I'm seeing elderly folks that are out and about and not even wearing masks. Apparently they don't care about COVID anymore.

  2. Pretty sure it’s the M&P 380 Shield EZ that’s geared towards old folks and ladies, not the Bodyguard.

  3. You may have seen in the press a couple of weeks ago where a couple of hair stylists in Missouri tested positive for COVID-19, and there was a big outcry about all the clients they had seen and how many would get sick. Both the stylists and the clients were wearing masks at the time of contact. The incubation period has now passed, and none of the 140+ clients have tested positive. That by itself is a testament to masks - maybe not being perfect - but significantly lowering the risk of transmission. So, I look at it two ways: 1. If you are in at at risk population - definitely wear a mask. 2. I look at it personally in terms of compassion - I'm going to wear a mask - because even though I'm generally low risk - I don't want to spread it to someone who may not be.

  5. Several years ago I made a homemade bullet trap for use with my air rifle in the backyard. I was not making videos at the time. Now that I am, figured I would make one of the trap and share the info.

  6. We called them knuckle busters too. I was watching a youtube video on boating the other day and saw a center console Coast guard boat and it had a spinner on it. Don't know if I ever saw one on a boat. Did you notice the cash register .05 and dime. Stuff sure was cheaper back then, I recall around '63 I could walk into the Western auto store and get a box of .22 shorts for $0.39. And the kicker was nobody thought that odd at all!!! Those of us that grew up in the 50's and 60's have a lot to be thankful for!!

  7. So I've been running a couple mags and mag catch for a while now. So at least 1-2k rounds through my 43X with them. No issues at all. The mags really have changed my carry life. I find the 43X to be easy to shoot and with 15+1 rounds it's hard to carry my 19. It's obviously snappier but I can still run the 6 plate plate rack from 10 yards in under 5 seconds consistently so I feel comfortable with the capability. Not as fast as my 19 or other full size but still adequate I think. It made my 43X go from mediocre to the best gun purchase I've made in a while.

  8. I realized I hadn't seen a Doctor in the last 10 years except for colonoscopy's and figured since I had passed 60 I had better find one I could call mine in case I had to have one. So last Friday I went to a Doctor for initial consultation and general review. So when he came in the room he asked what I was there for and I told him the above and coupled with the fact that I was getting old and for the last couple of years I had been a biscuit away from 200 pounds and wanted to lose some weight. I then asked him how long he had been doctoring. He seemed a little put off by that but then started giving me a full run down on his education and experience. I stopped him and explained I just wanted to find a Doctor that was going to out last me so I didn't have to find another one. He laughed and told me to get on the scale. I must have eaten the biscuit...with jelly. He told me to cut the carbs and limit the sugar, and after review of my blood work he told me to come back when I needed a Doctor. I have the same aches and pains any old dude like me can expect, bad knees, bum shoulder, stiff joints etc. but I was never too easy on myself between multiple collapsed lungs and several broken bones etc. in my younger days, so I just feel blessed to be in the shape I am so far. If I can just drop 25 to 30 pounds I will be happy. Even without my ice cream, sweet tea and mashed potatoes.

  9. Who knows what to believe anymore? This thing has been a total mess from the beginning. The virus is real and people do die. That much is certain. But contradictory info from dozens of different sources just confuse matters even more. I'm 66 and have been diagnosed with COPD. I wear a mask when out in public. But I've noticed lately that more and more people aren't wearing masks. Especially younger folks. I think we may have reached a stage of apathy. People are just so tired of all the BS that they just don't care anymore.

  10. Take all of it with a grain of salt; and beware, there are a lot of fakes. A barrel can be stamped to match a receiver at a later date; as well as proof marks. When I first got into mausers, there was a lot of that going on with M98's and K98's; as well as 03 Springfield's. Most were intentional chicanery and some, unintentionally misleading. Lot's of receivers were recycled post war by Mauser and given new life in the commercial market with matching serial numbers. Could have also been done by a smaller export company or a gunsmith; your rebore seems to suggest one of the scenario's. At the very least it may have started as an original commercial mauser as you suspect, but has received embellishments over the years. It's one of the reasons I honed in on the Swedish Mausers. The Swedes were very meticulous in the mfg of their rifles and subsequent, freakishly straight S/N's and proof marks. It's really hard to fake a Swede. All that aside it's a fine looking curio and relic, and tells a great story regarding gun ownership in post war Germany and Europe. What better historical document than an actual rifle from that era. FWIW, the truth is, the Elk won't know the difference, and that's all that really matters Good luck, I hope you get it figured out. Best Regards Rod

  11. RE... Accurate loads... H335 is what we used in both 222 and 223 in the old bolt guns... Same results... leroy

  12. I also like CFE223 but still have not tried it in 308. My most accurate 223 load so far has actually been with H335 and a 55grain BTFMJ.

  13. Still use those spinners on my tractor steering wheels, only need one hand to turn the wheel while using the other to operate joy stick or remote valve controls. Really handy when loading and moving large hay rolls or grading with the loader bucket.

  14. “If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals — if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.” Ronald Reagan

  15. Well I have read a bunch of ailments here and I will be the first to say that getting old is part of life. I have been told that all my life. The part they left out was the aches and pains that came with the getting old part. I feel blessed every day when I wake up and am able to put my feet on the floor and stand up. Yea , it hurts like hell when I begin snapping all my joints back in shape so I can actually walk and use my arms but a doctor told me back in 1978 that I would go through that if I lived to be older. He was telling me that getting smashed between a pickup truck and a brick wall with the truck going about 30 MPH could not have been a pleasant thing I would like to do every day. I think he was trying to be a comedian and get a smile out of me. That did happen to me back in 1978 and after 5 major abdominal surgeries and numerous broken bones repaired and spleen removal among other things and over 400 x-rays I should glow in the dark I'm still here. I did spend from April 17th to December 15th in the hospital fighting infections. Since then I have undergone 4 more surgeries for hernias caused by my weak abdominal wall from the truck and being a mechanic 25 + years. In 1990 my last hernia repair was the end of my working career as the doctor had to rebuilt my inner abdominal wall with 30 square inches of Mylex mesh that is stitched into my body with stainless steel thread. I have had an abdominal aneurism repaired and under went open heart triple by pass surgery 2.5 years ago. The doctor that caught my case back in 1978 told me because I was a young man my recovery would be good until about age 50 and about that time I would begin feeling that truck. He was off by about 5 years. I really began feeling the effects of the truck at age 55 and it had gradually gotten worse. I have really felt many more effects since the open heart surgery. I never needed a cane to walk any long distances and now I do but I have come to terms with the fact that with all my body has been through and I am now 72 years old I have finally accepted the fact that I am better off than many others and I will not complain about the aches and pains but just be happy with what I still am able to do

  18. Teach her to use the mirrors, not look over her shoulder. Best place is in a big parking lot, try to keep it between the lines. Last but not least, get some one else to teach her, yall might not talk for a few days.

  19. I dont see Glock ever making a steel magazine and that's what it will take to duplicate the shield mag. I have 4 of the shield mags now, one of which I put the plus % spring in (I have the springs for my others). I have shot upwards of 900 rounds through my 43x, mine is the black slide but I have several friends with the silver slide 43x and have watched them shoot countless rounds through theirs. I had one mag that initially wouldnt hold back the slide occasionally... that was fixed with the +% spring or realistically me not riding the damn slide. I have had just as many issues out of factory mags as I have the shield mags (which is suffice it to say none). The 43x has completely killed the 26 for me, it no longer has a purpose, I still think the 19 and 45 point better but is a thick big lead brick compared to the 43x when it comes to carry (I have the 48 it doesnt blow my skirt up). Wait until shield releases the mags for the 43... and then the venerable old 36 everyone has forgotten about.
