  1. Because "muh rights" :shakes fist: Because we live in a time where even a pandemic has become politicized. We can't come together to do anything even remotely kind and decent because everything is viewed through a partisan lens. If we wear a mask it means the libs have somehow won. Next we'll all have to turn in our guns and have Bill Gates microchip our assholes. Anything scientific is also suspicious and linked to the liberal overlords. We can't trust them either.

  5. Not policing, merely want to point out a mistake. I only go out when I need to. I needed groceries. I fend for myself and don't count on other people to do for me. Yes, I am responsible for my own health. So I am careful, social distance as much as possible and do wear a mask. You see, I've been there. Not covid, but other health issues. I've been confined to a hospital bed, on oxygen and fighting for every breath. I never want to go through that again. Anti-mask people can't imagine what that's like. I hope you never find out.

  6. Why do you think it's your job to police other people like that? If you are afraid of catching it then why are you out when there are plenty of ways to have basically no exposure and get supplies to survive? You and you alone are responsible for your own health.

  8. It is a slippery slope. What happens when the next virus comes around? We’ve been subjected to a new one for years now, yet now it’s stop the world. As far as gun control goes it’s a done deal. It’s not ever going away or getting any better. No one is asking you to give up your decision making rights as a human being, just have some consideration for others and those you might come in contact with. You can decide not to frequent a business that requires what The Man tells them to do. Guess who wins.

  9. I see those stats as a relative measure of success due to Tennessee's overall response thus far. Even so, at current practices, IHME is predicting about 2.5x increase in deaths through Sept. At which point we might well see the second game of the double header begin. Wry, but fatuous. The masks to some extent protect the wearer of course (would you rather be misted with or without one?), but their prime effectiveness is as a prophylactic, to protect others, particularly by limiting the transmission from the asymptomatically infected. But altruism is not among our strongest virtues as a species. - OS

  10. If you work for a city, they probably have a firearms policy. My guess would be they have a policy against it, especially for those that interface with the public. But that’s just a WAG, you would need to ask your boss.

  11. Kroger on 70 in Bartlett has plexiglass barriers between cashiers and the customers. Each one has a 3” or 4” diameter hole for you to put your hand through the get to the credit/debit card machine. The machine is not lined up with the hole, so it’s basically impossible to not touch the side of the hole. So somebody’s feel good idea to keep everybody safe is actually making everyone touch the same spot. No plexiglass barriers would be safer. The stupidity is getting worse every day.

  12. This site says 12% for TN makes in a 4 way tie for 6th place in best armed. Texas has 7% making it a little below middle. On the other hand NY has .6% and NJ .01%. Based on 2017 data so it may be a bit different now. https://www.gunstocarry.com/concealed-carry-statistics/#numbers

  17. Since we’re about to bust the 80th page of this thread.... What’s with all the animosity against wearing a mask in public? I hate it, but will abide for the time being. Why start out just immediately dismissing the short-term practice as being some self-perceived violation of one’s person and liberty? Save your indignation for when a vaccine is released...and it becomes mandatory.

  20. You will love the Bersa Thunder in 380. Take it from a guy that has 4 of them...…... Just added my last one a little over 2 months ago and now have a safe house regardless of what ever room I am in. Now the only 380 I still want is an LCP and I will be done buying 380's.

  21. My daughter was over to the house last night and she is looking for a new pistol. When she finds what she wants, I'm getting the little Keltec P32 back . Then I'm going trade the LCP in for something else. Maybe I'll trade it in on a SDS Fatih .380 or a Bersa Thunder.

  22. Good score! They are a hoot to shoot. The triggers on my MPXs are pretty bad, worse than most AR milspec triggers. Fortunately it looks like Timney finally released a more reasonably priced trigger than the Geissele. $200 is still rather pricey but it beats $350. As for optics, I think I have an Eotech 512 on the carbine and a Vortex Sparc with a riser on the pistol.

You just keep preaching cause some people just don't listen till it's to late and then they want to blame their getting sick on someone else when they were informed and just didn't listen!!!!

  24. Agree on the Keltec 32. I had one and sold it during the "it ain't enough gun" period I went thru. I'm regretting it more and more. Never owned a Tomcat, but have the Beretta 81/84 from the CF sales. Nice guns, shoot well. Can be a bit "snappy" if having arthritis issues. Also have and have owned since late 90s, a Browning BDA. Great little pistol. But some of the most felt recoil of any small pistol I own. Perhaps it's just me. IDK. Doubt my comments really help, but just sending my own observations out. Good luck to you and your wife, sir, in finding the right handgun. Last thought, I appreciate the comments on "wadcutters" from everyone. I remember my Dad shooting them during his competition days, in fact, I may even have a few boxes he loaded back in the 60s. I sorta kept them as keepsakes. I think I'll look into the wadcutters again, especially the 147 grains. Thanks all for the ideas. Proof again that TGO is the best! Always recommendations and ideas for all ages.

  25. I have tried that and do not like the texture of the meat. I throw them in my pellet grill till 130° and then put them on the sear box to get a nice crust. Throw them in a pan with a little garlic butter on top and let them rest for 5 minutes. Delicious.

  26. Did my monthly grocery shopping today. Huge crowds. Lots of people shopping for 4th of July. Very obvious that many were buying for a big party. Sam's was ok. They even handed out free masks at the door if you needed one. Most people, including me, are wearing masks. 4-5 registers open. However, they funnel everybody into one checkout line to wait for the next open checker. Line goes all the way to the back of the store and it seemed to take forever to check out. Kroger was just a PITA. Social distancing had checkout lines running a long way down the aisles making it hard just to get to what you need. Most people with masks, but quite a few without. What pisssed me off was that many employees were wearing their masks with their nose hanging out. . Only covering their mouth. Almost all the checkers were that way. Some employees with no mask at all. They should know better and management should enforce proper use. I tried to tell someone, but couldn't find any supervisor types. Tried to call when I got home, but the automated phone system just kept transferring me until I was finally cut off. I might try again tomorrow. They really need to fix that. My shopping trip took about twice as long as usual. Time to hunker back down. At least I won't starve.

  27. Here's the absolutely idiotic part. The Knox County Health Department head has said that we should trust them experts (them.) However, those "health experts" don't trust the law experts in their own government when they said it wasn't legal to give such an order. Here's the other thing I was mulling around today. I believe only three people on the task force that voted on this are actual government employees (Jacobs, health director, and some school employee.) Have the non employees not opened themselves up to lawsuits since they would not be protected under qualified immunity? Considering they are unelected they should have no vote...but neither should the health director since she's not elected. In fact, even Jacobs shouldn't have a vote because violating people's rights should never be up for a vote. So yeah, I've not worn a face mask a single time when I've been out for the past few months and I refuse to do so because I believe it's hurting our recovery far more than it's helping.

  31. I vaguely remember one deal on it. Believe I bought a Taurus there. Maybe. Been a while back. I think. I remember the seller telling me to call if I wasn't satisfied with our deal. I wasn't within a few hours. I called for days and never got a reply. Maybe a lot of others had better results.

  33. I believe the 380 is perfectly adequate for self defense. I carry one often. However, most 380s are a straight blowback design. This makes for some nasty recoil. All steel guns such as the Walther PPK are easier, however you get back to the weight issue. There are a few locked breach designs in which the recoil is much lighter, such as the Colt Mustang and Sig P238. However, they're basically miniature 1911s and should be carried cocked and locked. Would she be good with that? You might try some different grips on your S&W 38. Grips can make a huge difference in felt recoil. There are also some light recoil .38 loads available. I believe Federal makes a 110 gr low recoil load. And as Hughd suggested, target wadcutters can also work. Another consideration might be a revolver in .32 caliber. Either .32 S&W Long, .32 Magnum or 327 Federal. While marginal, they can work. My wife had arthritis in her hands and her choice was a S&W Model 30 in .32 Long. She shot it very well and the recoil didn't bother her at all. As a bonus, guns in .32 Mag or 327 Fed will also take the shorter .32 long rounds if they prove to be too much. I personally believe the .32 acp is a highly under rated round. Again, its marginal, but it'll get the job done if you do your part. There are many good .32 acps available. Recently several distributors have been running specials on Police turn in Berettas at very good prices. If all else fails, there's always a .22. Ain't much, but its better than nothing. As also suggested, try as many different guns as possible. But above all, let her make the choice.

  34. Yep...what all the previous guy haves said. All ammo is high. From merely higher to outright ridiculous. Check the prime distributors...PSA, Ammoman.com, etc. Everything has gone 30-50% up in the last few months. I've seen 9mm around 30 each. And I almost bought another case! lol Buy by the case if you can. That's your best bet right now. Buying from most LGS's and ranges will eat your budget pretty fast.

  35. If you can get 9mm for 17.5 cents a pop at Academy today go buy more because you’re not going to find any cheaper right now. Ammo prices are up across the board. 9mm is on average $100 more per case than two months ago.

Lay steak on right end of grill stick two pronged fork in left side and slowly drag across grill, flip over at end of dragging on left side insert prong on right side and slowly drag across grill remove let rest for 5 minutes and enjoy. Will be rare as steak is intended to be eaten. Have a good 4th
