  2. 1911alltheway just sent these to me on Friday. Ihad him make these for my Staccato P 4.15 2011. He did a great job they are great, fit and finish is really good, he nailed the designs I asked for. One is a Rodisan style, the other is a Bruce Nelson Combat style, both fit a 1.5" belt and hold the gun snugly, I can't wait to get them broken in. Thanks 1911alltheway you did a great job on making these for me.

  3. I hope you don't mind someone from Texas commenting on your Tennessee forum. I found this old thread while looking for reviews on the Tisas products. Despite the angst expressed by the OP, I went ahead and ordered a 1911 Duty model in 45 ACP from SDS Imports for $449. Its my first 1911 and I'm hoping it works as good as it looks. I just didn't want to spend $800 on what is really an impulse purchase. I think there have been improvements to the lineup since SDS took over and the guns have received pretty good reviews over the last 2-3 years. Got my fingers crossed. BTW, this thread is still pretty high up on the web search results, it was number 5 on my google search.

  7. It occurred to me today that with all the quarantining, isolation, etc. going on that folks are going to have a lot more time on their hands. As I remember an old saying having something to do with idle hands, I strongly suspect that dishonest shenanigans are going to be on the rise. While I don’t think we’ve seen too much of an uptick here, we’ve always been very lucky on that front to have a low instance of dishonesty here, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to be extra vigilant for folks trying to take advantage. Keep a skeptical eye, and if something seems off, walk away. Please be sure to flag any posts/ ads/ interactions that are suspicious and make the moderation team aware. Thanks all, and be safe out there.

  8. While on the road in Alabama, I stopped in at Hoover Tactical... I had just started my research into the world of semi auto .308 rifles, so was just looking. Ended up with walking out with an HK91 When I saw it, I assumed it was a PTR91 or Century C308; both of which I've handled at Bud's and wasn't a fan. Salesman says, "it's a real one." "A real one what?" "Not a clone or kit, it's nice, here, check it out." I agonized over the decision and justified through, "they ain't making them anymore, they are desirable, it should appreciate, and I know a guy who would probably sell one of his damaged kidneys if I had to sell in a pinch." It's LNIB, except for some marring around the election port. Round count has to be low, there is still finish on the tip of the firing pin and breech face shows no wear. There is little noticeable wear on the metal on metal bits that slide. Came with the test fire docs, dated 10 Nov 1980, unused cleaning kit, manual, shell deflector (? - it's the part in the pic below the stock) sling and 6 mags. Spent way more than I had budgeted, I thought a Springfield M1A variant was iny future. I think I need a bipod.

  9. Black Hills 175 gr. .308 match has given me the best results. I've never tried any steel cased ammo, I've always used brass cased. I've run a bunch of surplus Portuguese NATO 7.62 with decent results, and the surplus ammo will bring down a deer very nicely.. At least two trees have been cut down due to the H&K. That's the only down side, it's possible to run through lots of ammo in an afternoon, but the gun always brings a smile to my face. Back in the early 80's I showed up to deer camp with it, and this was way before AR's were popular. My fellow hunters couldn't understand why anyone would carry such a gun. And they definitely didn't like the H&K slap, geez that's part of the fun of owning a H&K rifle. I ran iron sights too, still do, as the scope mounts are pricey. Enjoy the gun, it's definitely a classic!

  10. I can confirm that HK 91 will run quality .308. I've had mine for four decades, and it goes boom with whatever it's fed. I've also used it on white tail deer, and it performs admirably, though it is on the heavy side. Look for 5 round magazines for hunting purposes. 20 and 30 round magazines are readily available from sources like RTG Parts. Oh yeah, there's an ejection buffer available which helps with the brass damage, but the fluting still occurs on the cartridges. I'm still able to reload the brass, though it can't be reloaded as often as some other firearms due to the fluting.

  11. No problem there. All of upstate NY is conservative, except for Albany and Rochester. The problem is specifically NYC. In the last election for Governor, I believe almost every Upstate county went for the Republican candidate, but it didn't matter since NYC always decides the vote. I'm afraid the same thing will eventually happen in Tennessee due to Nashville and Memphis, I can already see it beginning to happen.

  12. I try to not be a fan boy, but I do really like my Kershaw Chive. I've needed small small parts for it a couple of times over the years, and they've always been happy to send them. I actually asked for spares at one point, so I wouldn't have to wait on shipping the next time I needed to fix my knife, they sent more than I asked for. ETA: Plus, you can sharpen that steel at home, but it's tough enough to still have a decent edge after a day cutting open concrete sacks.

  13. Just keep your feeders up cause I think the migration of many birds are just now arriving in Tennessee cause I talked to a guy that lives next door to where I use to and he put 3 feeders up in May and decided to change out the food in the feeders with fresh red actual nectar instead of sugar water and he said in about a week he got about 8-10 birds fighting over the feeders. I saw one year they didn't arrive till August and stayed later than they normally do up in the fall. Make sure when you quit seeing birds in the Fall because they have migrated that you make sure you keep fresh food in 1 or 2 feeders till it gets cold enough you think it might freeze before you take it down. Reason being you probably had travelers stopped and fed a day of two that you did not see because they were just passing thru going north and they will be looking for food in your feeders in their migration back south and will expect to find it going south at same places they found it going north. I have read that is several different articles about them. It's amazing how smart those little critters are!!! They sure must have a great GPS built in to make migrations over 10,000 miles back and forth each year.

  16. I think the Tisas brand is good, over all. Tanker may have gotten a lemon at the time. I own a Tisas Fatih B380 (copy of the Beretta 85) and it’s first rate quality built. It’s starting to change my mind on the .380 round. I’m seriously considering an SDS 1911a1 now. It looks just like the .45 acp I carried in the Army, without the wear. And at $379 out the door, I think it’s a steal.

  20. Got there about 10:30. Good crowd about 50/50 on masks it seemed. Bulk ammo was pricey, boxed self defense ammo was about what you'd expect at the gshop. Some tables were lined up with 3 or 4 waiting to complete paperwork. Walking around guns were priced kinda nutty. I saw a lot of cash changing hands. I'd say the vendors will be happy tonight.

Didn't see alot of folks walking around buy/sell/trading. I got there at 9, left about 10. Bought nothing. Masks are requires, Wilson Co. mandate. Didn't see anyone without one. Didn't have any issues.

  27. I never carried a knife as a young man. But as I got older, either I got weaker or packaging became much tougher. Some of these packages is like trying to rip a phone book in half. For years I carried the GERBER F.A.S.T. assisted opening below. I’ve never been disappointed by a Gerber product and the assisted openers may be something you might want to check out. They aren’t very expensive; but the quality is there. A couple of years ago I decided to go to an auto knife, because they finally had something that meet my requirements. I didn’t want a safety. Using a safety on an auto knife didn’t make sense to me; an assisted would be faster than messing with a safety. (But that just me). But I wanted to be able to put it in my pocket without worrying about it opening. For that I chose the Pro-Tech Magic BR-1 "Whiskers" shown below. I slide it in my pocket and clip over the edge of the pocket. I don’t think this knife would ever open accidentally (it never has being carried daily). It takes a very deliberate action to open it. Most people that aren’t familiar with it can’t open it when they are trying, until they are shown how it works. I think it’s a very cool idea on a release. When I ravel I can’t carry an auto-knife. For that I have my little Gerber Paraframe mini. I know you said you have trouble opening manuals, but you might want to check this out, it opens pretty easy. They have an MSRP of $14.00, but I picked mine up at Rural King for $9.99; they sell them most everywhere. I was surprised at how sharp it was and the quality for the price. I figured when it got dull or wore out I would just replace it, but it been a few years and still going strong. GERBER FAST assisted opening: Pro-Tech Magic "Whiskers" BR-1.7 Gerber Mini Paraframe

  28. I've not been in my bank in at least 3 months. My check at work is direct deposit and I just hit ATM. I don't know if they are excepting walk in customers at this time or not. I hate my bank, not the people that work there. Bersa glad you got your problem resolved.

  31. I’m not sure because I have an AR10 chambered in .308, so I can use either. What’s stamped on your barrel? It’s my understanding some 91’s are stamped 7.52 NATO, and some .308 WIN. I wouldn’t worry too much about using .308 in a 7.62 rifle made in the 80’s. The difference in pressure is not a big issue. The possible issue could be head spacing. If you have a 7.62 with the max headspace, there is a possibility of rupturing a .308 case. A way to check is to get a 308 Field Gage. If the bolt will close on it; don’t use .308. As you have probably already found, most folks that have the HK91 shoot .308 without a problem. However, in normal times, NATO ammo isn’t hard to find.

  33. Nice looking piece. I sort of favored the Bold Action Xll Tanto myself. But that's just me. If you get in the mood for another auto...look into the Kalishnakov Autos. I've had 2 and for 40 or so apiece, they've been pretty good carry pieces. but I don't do much more than cut paper or open boxes with them.

  34. Fundamentally I agree. There are few things that the Holosun 507C an 508T bring to the table that I'd like to see Trijicon do, proving that Holosun really is out there innovating and not just following. 1. The Ring-Dot reticle can be very useful and is a nice option 2. The larger window of the 507 and 508 as compared to the RMR makes for quicker, easier dot acquisition without being as large as, and being more robust than, the Trijicon SRO. 3. The solar panel is a heck of a nice feature. 4. The V2 variants of those two from Holosun have that "FINALLY!!!" side-loading battery door that keep you from having to remove the optic from the gun just to change batteries. I bought another RMR RM07 a few days ago to put a dot back on one of my M&Ps. I wanted to do a Holosun HE508T-V2 but Holosun keeps dragging their butts on releasing it in any sort of quantity that effectively makes it available.

  35. Nashville is no longer the epicenter in Tennessee. As of this afternoon all counties are reporting community spread. Couple that with the number of rural hospitals we’ve lost in the last decade and this gets worse before it gets better. Y’all keep your heads down.

  36. I carried a small Buck knife for 30+ years but there was enough times that I wanted to open it while holding something I switched 2 years ago to a Kershaw 1600. It does have a clip but if it is in the way it can be removed easily. $40 https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Pocket-Speedsafe-Assisted-Opening/dp/B084B64QN9

  37. For a small blade, I carry a Buck 55. When looking for a small knife of that sort, nearly every “review” or description of that type of knife (one without a thumb stud or flipper, nail knick only) it’s said it cannot be opened or closed one handed. It’s absolute BS. Same is said for this particular knife with the lockback release at the end of the handle away from the blade pivot. I do it all the time, actually it’s nearly always opened and closed one handed. I have carried a Case Peanut also, very nice. Although I would say the peanut is best for light cutting jobs only such as paper or opening packages. The blades are thin but sharp and excellent for cutting/slicing, but not much else. If going with an automatic, I wouldn’t touch anything except Protech or Microtech. And I don’t thing Microtech makes anything like you are looking for.

  38. For a blade under 2", I might go with a Kershaw Scallion or Chive. Those are both assisted opening - and can be had for under $40 out the door.

  39. Well it's time to update!! My 1 small hummer got another after about 2 weeks and now I have about 20-25 birds fighting over 5 feeders!! My daughter came back to see it and she said she couldn't believe that I have so many birds of all sizes and she brought her feeder back here and added it to my 5 and now have birds fighting over 6 feeders...……..LOL She said she didn't think I would get any since they have lived here 18 years and seldom got any birds on her feeder. Next year GOD willing I will be adding a few more feeders and I am looking at planting a vine that will grow up the posts from the ground to the railing and along my wooden deck that has a horn type flower that blooms in late spring and keeps blooming all summer and the Hummingbirds are suppose to love the nectar the flowers produce. Then the birds will have options on what to eat. I have a friend that lives in Castilian Springs and he has the vines and 10 feeders and he told me the other day that he has about 40 to 50 birds and him and his wife can sit out on their deck and have birds buzzing passed them all evening. He said it's funny when one will stop right up in front of him and hover and just look him over with no sign of fear at all. My birds are getting use to seeing me on the deck when I am filling the feeders and they will even hover near me till I hang the feeder back up and then they will go directly to it and start feeding. It is amazing how something so small can give me so much pleasure just watching them!!!

  40. I have that exact same SW 'folding hunter' My hunting partner picked it up at an auction in Big Piney, Wyoming last year. He gifted it to me as a thank you for dragging him out there! The very next day, I killed a big cow elk & used the knife to completely clean, dress & quarter the old girl. It'll be on my belt again this year.....
