  1. My take of a 1918 trench knife. It took me weeks off and on. No CNC or waterjet machines here....just my normal tools and lots of patience. All 1084 steel with antiqued hickory handles. The pins are SS but I did that purposely for contrast. It went to a businessman in Texas. He's bought several of my knives over the years.

  2. Personally, I think anyone who kills a child of any color should have an expedited trip out back to be summarily executed in the most painful way,

  3. I'm sorry, there is nothing except a negligent discharge (and that would still tick me off) that would change how I feel about this. There is no reason to target a child, of any color, that is just riding a bike. If he had a beef with one of the parents, then it should have been taken up with them, not the child.

  4. Referring to all the times the “experts” flip flop on what we should do. Fauci: mask vs. no mask, entire households being counted as positive cases when only one has even been tested, probable cases being counted as confirmed, practically any death being reported as Covid being the cause of death even if it had nothing to do with it, etc. Just normal government stuff. *Not implying any members here are spreading misinformation on purpose, just what we have been told and are being told changes daily. And quite frankly, I don’t trust much of it.

  5. Extras. Spares. Greedy. Selfish. Whatever. When I bought my first auto loader, way back in the dark ages; it had 2 mags with it. First range trip...I saw the light. More time loading than shooting. This was not going to work for me. I set a precedent then and there for myself. It wasn't going to be like that again. The number I decided on isn't important. The decision to always buy and have that number on hand was. Only in rare or circumstances where it just isn't cost effective for my thinking, I have always followed that decision. Some have laughed. But I got mags. Do you?

  7. If you don't have all the mags you need by now, you're probably already too late.

  8. I saw the story earlier in the week. They gave very few details except the child was riding his bike with family and this jack wad shot him in the head. There is no justification he can give for shooting that baby. @crake you are correct, if this were a black child, the media from all of the major networks would be in front of the house of the slain child whipping everyone into a frenzy. This is why we have to take media reports with a grain of salt. Sometimes I watch Fox and MSNBC at the same time on my television and iPad. It’s like the left and right Twix factories, they are putting out the same product, but they package it for the targeted group that they need to keep pissed off and tuned in for ratings dollars.

  9. The Canik TP9 SA.... Looked at one of these several weeks back when my wife and I were looking for her a new handgun (she ended up with the XD-9 mod2 sub compact)... Well I really liked the feel of the trigger and just the overall feel of the Canik. I think it would be good to have a full sized semi auto on hand considering all I have currently is the XD mentioned above and my shield 2.0 EDC gun. Well I went back the other day and they still had it so I went ahead put it on layaway. In a few more weeks I will have it in hand. I have already seen ways to deactivate the decocker but is it really that big of a deal? Any other general feedback or things I should look out for on this particular firearm?

  10. I wanted to share my experience serving as @Cruel Hand Luke 's adequate assistant at this Suarez International one day class. Hosted by Bill at the Ridge out in Dayton. Classroom, bathrooms, range layout works really well for this type of training. This class definitely highlights the critical application of trigger discipline and making a conscious decision to shoot. While sitting in an automobile, if you need to draw your pistol, something will get swept with the muzzle; you, your car floor / dash, windshield, non threats outside your windshield, front seat passenger plus second, maybe third row passengers. Talk to your significant other about the what if plan - discharging a firearm in front or behind your passenger's head, with hot brass flying is disconcerting. After 20+ times, you get innoculated... Morning was lecture, then dry fire on the range from a seated position to mimic sitting in car. Students paired up, dry fire, each person went through the exercises shooting from the driver and passenger position. Appropriate tunes on the radio. Live fire mimicked the dry fire excercises. Then it was time to mount up. Each student had an opportunity to shoot from his or her vehicle, from different points of the clock. Randy kept the traffic flowing pretty well, way better than the drive through at Bojangles in Oolewah. Day finished up with each student engaging a target three times through the passenger window, across an unpaid volunteer and danger seeker. With the current environment and simply transitting larger metro areas for business or personal travel, even from your vehicle you can pay attention and evade / escape. We did discuss what if you have to bail out, if you've got a long gun, do you grab it? Consensus was, it depends. A long gun is conspicuous. AR / AK pistol in a covert backpack has some appeal.

  12. I'm not all that rural, (northeastern Rutherford County), and I still have absolutely ZERO broadband options. I use a cellular Internet service and pay out the nose for it.

  13. It took quite a while here, too. Getting grant work done ( you know how Gov. things go), then holding neighborhood meetings to explain the system & process. After I signed up the next day, it took about a year, before actual installation. Everything had to start from scratch. Cables run, in a rural area. After all was done, it was worth the wait. Hang in there, it's a long, but methodical process.

  14. I'm actually really well set on mags. I'm pretty sure I have more than I will use in my lifetime. I have an entire box of PMAGS still in their wrappers. I figured if we ever have a magazine ban they will be worth a fortune. I pray that doesn't happen though. David has good advice though. If you don't have a bunch of mags for each gun, now is the time.

  15. Glock really is a great design. Easy to field strip. Easy to work on. Parts are everywhere and many are quiet good and improve the design. I used to run a Glock 17 in IDPA. CZ's are really amazing. I have a CZ 75 SP-01. It currently has about 20,000 rounds through it. It's only malfunctioned twice. It choked on the same brand of ammo with and without a weapon light attached (Geco ammo for those that are curious). It eats all my reloads and anything else reliably. It's broken a trigger spring 1 time and after replacing it with a Cajun spring, and changing it out every 5k rounds it hasn't been an issue. Same with slide stop; changed it out every 10k rounds or so. Also replaced the recoil spring at around 10k rounds. It just keeps running. My CZ 75 Compact has about 3,000 rounds through it without a single failure. I kinda like it better than the full size lol.

  16. I've been adding 2x PMags to every order from PSA or Primary Arms since 2014. But a new trigger, get two mags...rifle case, add two mags...ect. While some may say there's no such thing as enough, I'm not worried about my own supply in the least. All these people buying mags in California before the court order goes into effect (which isn't simultaneous with the ruling) are running the risk of having their sales records subpoenaed by the state.

  17. Glad to help buddy . I like them both. I am a big Glock fan because I like a fighting gun with very few moving parts in which I have to use on my job , but in recreation I like hammer guns. In fact the older I get the more I seem to like the older style hammer guns. The CZ and the Beretta both are extremely reliable designs and they just work and work. There is no break-in period. They just work like an older well oiled sewing machine.

  18. Wow, the CZ looks plain next to that Beretta lol. Thanks for taking the time @tercel89 it gives me a good feel for the size differences. I was looking at this website last night and it wouldn't let me turn the guns so they face the same direction. https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/cz-75-compact-vs-beretta-92-fs-compact

  19. In a post about spares a while back, i posted that I tend to carry more than i think i will need. Soooo, ya cant carry spares without mags, lol. Like Hipower, i tend to stock up on mags when i first buy a new gun. There have been exceptions, but thats what Ive mostly done. That said, kinda wish i had more mags, lmao.

  21. Thanks, A.J. A question I had wondered about. Most of us I think have the mental picture/perception that all desperate occasions when we might actually draw and even fire, will take place in a wide open environment, or in a situation with lots of cover and few bystanders. Just like Hollywood movies. This brings much thought. I need more(actually about any professional) training. Seems as though something breaks down on me just about the time I start thinking of getting involved. Hopefully my current crop of liabilities will be corrected soon and I can get started. Thank you for posting this.

  22. This is a tragic, awful story and that little boy absolutely did not deserve to die. I am not sure that we have all of the details yet and something about the story we've heard doesn't set entirely well with me. Call it a hunch or intuition, I guess. I really wonder what details about the situation will emerge in the weeks ahead.

  23. I suspect you are right, but 2020 isn't over yet. There's still a chance the redneck crackhead contingent will surprise us. Man, that is just an awful story. I don't know what the truth of that situation is, but that poor kid did not deserve to die. It's going to be interesting to see what facts come out about the situation in the weeks ahead.

  24. Wow, that’s interesting. Never would have expected one of these classes to include shooting from your own car. Sounds like a great way to make a “dry run” of what it may be like. Thanks.

  25. Let's be honest, you want to be prepared with as much lawyer as you can afford if you have to shoot someone in self defense. Whether it takes one shot or ten, the public will riot because they've learned that it is an effective way of manipulating the court.

  27. Lots of comments regarding how the media would be up in arms if this had been a black kid. But, I've seen a lot of "XX number of people shot and killed in Chicago last weekend" stories, and that's as far as they go. I'm sure some of those people have been little kids, but you don't see their name or their picture or anything else about the shooting. Just the total deaths for the weekend. I'm sure we can all agree that the media are always doing a less-than-perfect job, just like all the rest of us. And, while more air time might help in some way to decrease the violence in a city like Chicago, I suspect that more exposure for this particular story isn't likely to prevent a lunatic from killing anyone in the future.

  28. Never expect the media to cover news that doesn't fit the narrative. They simply will not do it. There is no attempt at " fair and balanced ", there never was... The good news is that more people are noticing. Remember the God-Man's words : " There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed "... It's a universal truth with a capital " U " and a capital " T "... listenin n watchin leroy.

  29. Ha. Different....but on the surface.... Not quite the same as 100 million+ folks in all states driven by mass media educed panic and thinking they need a lifetime supply. That was selfish people buying more than their needs, or with the intent of reselling. A few 10's of thousands of CA gun owners though feel that way right now. Intended for those that may not follow the politics or care about CA. If you can wait, you just don't need em anyway. But if you just bought a gun and need a couple mags, good to know. Unless one thinks a few here may be stacking mags to the ceiling to go with their TP collection

  31. Is it though? Even here we are pointing at that and saying see, they are reporting the news. IMO it will take much more than the token story now and then to make me think they give a damn.

  33. I used to work at Schrade Ellenville back in the 70's oiling leather sheaths by the thousands. I grew up in that area. And Yes, the old Walden Schrades are very collectable. Great blade steel in those knives for sure. A buddy of mine opened up the Napanoch Knife museum. Hes a walking taking encyclopedia of collector knive info. Schrade being a favorite of his. Come to think of it, I worked in Walden also! They have a super max state prison there. I Officered in that S**T hole.

  36. I suffer from the same contagious condition; it's more contagious than the current virus. However; I've found some relief in combating the symptoms and effects of carrying something home, and you sure don't want to 'give' it to another. Just carry small quantities of cash, leave debit and credit cards at home [or better yet, cut them up] and most importantly... Make sure when it runs across you, you're over a 1/2 days trip from from there. This gives you pause because you can not return on the same day to take it home and gives you time to ensure the adoption is legitimate. It gets tiring and hurts just being a foster guardian in many examples of this contagion. Also before you leave home, it doesn't hurt to show the wife the massive gun collection you already have in your safe and your possible intention of adding another orphan to it. Personally speaking; this normally delays your departure by 1-3 hours, listening to the abusive language and reasoning of how that money could be better spent or saved Please take two aspirin and call me in the morning if this problem persists. I'm here to help...
